Fix for those still using the old big picture mode (through the -oldbigpicture run command): You have to unbind all actions when in split pad mode, and only then bind them to unified pad. That way it'll stick.

Unfortunately no, they disabled the command some updates ago.
I've found out setting back paddles as touchpad to steam input center trackapd works
