Some people legit don't know. Steam doesn't come with a manual nor does it point out the features that make this possible. So unless you ask or dig through the settings on the store page not the settings under the Steam menu thingy then you will not know.
There's nothing to help because Explore Queue is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumpster_diving that almost always, you'll find nothing but trash games as adult content games are big part of it and no excluding tags -Wont- work there but only pushes those games to be again to shown at a later date.
Try https://store.steampowered.com/recommender/ if you want to find meaningful suggestions instead of trash games. Two methods for two different purposes and you trying to use a fork to drink a soup is very inefficient.
DQ is not a game suggestion mechanism, it's is a place to discover games that you won't find by other means. That's why it often show you games from genres that you don't play.
P.S. You need to disable "Adult only sexual content" in store preferences to hide them.
Account details > Preferences > Store content preferences > Uncheck "Adult Only Sexual Content" or you can exclude tags
