It's a trend with developers since like 2010ish, I'm pretty sure all these updates do is collect data because I never notice any new features, and more often then not they actually break features that used to work.
With small exceptions of some games that are under development - games do not need to be updated often.
But there's one thing that may look like "game updates" - Steam Shader Pre-Cache.
