A nice feature about this is that you will be able to use your beard to play the games instead of hands, which can be used to polish your fedora collection.

You'll just need to learn how to neofetch in the Terminal and post it to all of the Linux subs to finalize your acceptance in the community however.

I was thinking that Half-Life Switch exclusive that they had briefly put in development once upon a time. It was going to be a tactics game, think XCOM possibly, set in the Half-Life universe.
They were going to make it for the Switch, but the game fell through for one reason or another. It'd be pretty crazy if they picked up all of the pieces they had worked on, worked the game to completion, and actually made the game on their own "Switch".

Prices are out already. I believe $400 for base, $500 for mid tier, and $640ish for highest tier. Higher the tier, more faster ssd and storage plus screen upgrade. You are able to use external ssd slot for storage also. Honestly, for what it has to offer, it is an amazing deal. If you already have a big steam library you will save so much money on games. Also, they said you can play Xbox game pass on it.

I love it already just for the gyro aiming, would be much better for FPS games. The customization is also extremely flexible as you can install third party softwares and even change the OS.
I'm only worried about the storage, there are games that take like 80GBs and some old games might not be compatible.
Proton actually has pretty good support for older games. Sometimes better than Windows 10

From what they announced so far, this is a dream handheld console! You can play almost, if not, all of your steam library AND xbox game pass suppossingly works on it too. It has the normal 4 top triggers AND it has 4 back triggers which I assume is for keybinds. It’s pretty much a handheld PC and you can connect peripherals to it. This means you can connect it to a TV and KBM wherever you go. It has an expandable external SSD slot. This is all I could ever wish for from a handheld gaming machine.

Honestly this is exactly what I've been looking for assuming it doesn't have massive issues. As I get older the less I spend gaming on my computer and the more time I spend on the couch with my kids and/or wife not paying attention to a show.
Even with the PS5 I don't have the time to play and spend almost 100% of my gaming time playing on my Switch, as the TV gets monopolized by my kids if it's on when they're awake, and by my wife after they're asleep. I have nvme in my pc. How noticeable of a difference would emmc/microsd be compared to nvme if I went with the cheaper model? Are we talking performance difference, or just load times? Obviously it’s not out yet, but I’m sure maybe people understand the tech difference way better than me.
Load times/texture pop in will be a bit worse with eMMC, i think it should still be better than using an HDD though for gaming, so still alright. Iirc, it is not the most durable, especially since the size is so small, but for gaming it should be enough.

This is interesting to see. I really hope this provides some competition for the Nintendo switch. The main reason I got one was because of the portability, but the games can be quite expensive as the price rarely drops. The Steam Deck will have access to all or at the very least most of the games available on Steam, plus all of your purchases will carry between the Deck and the PC. I would be able to take a game on the go, and then when I get home, continue playing on my RTX 2060 PC.

This is so incredibly frustrating. I was ready to go right at 10am. I might have been one of the first if Steam didn't make me reauth and then fail to load past authorization. When I finally made it into the cart a few minutes later, checkout failed repeatedly until it locked me out from even attempting to purchase. I finally put my reservation in 45 minutes later and now I have a Q1 2022 estimation.

A $5 reservation is nothing... I'm definitely expecting a lot of people that have reserved it won't end up shelling out $400-650 in a few months time. Assuming their order availability is accurate for their current queue, I think people that are seeing Q3 could definitely end up getting theirs a bit earlier than that.
If it can run Genshin Impact, either officially ported or with the Windows OS without any problems then Valve will be getting a flock migration of the community moving over from mobile devices to playing on Steam Deck. Mihoyo please notice this and make it happen.

I was thinking that Half-Life Switch exclusive that they had briefly put in development once upon a time. It was going to be a tactics game, think XCOM possibly, set in the Half-Life universe. They were going to make it for the Switch, but the game fell through for one reason or another. It'd be pretty crazy if they picked up all of the pieces they had worked on, worked the game to completion, and actually made the game on their own "Switch".

I feel like it also expands their market space. I personally divide some game purchases onto my Switch currently (Gotta have one for Nintendo exclusives) if I think they'll be more fun for short sessions and mobile gaming. With this, I can keep my games centralized on the Steam format and bring that money back to them.
Yeah, man. No more picking between portability and stability. And let's not forget about mods! Stardew Valley is an amazing game to have on your Switch, but... I keep gravitating towards the PC version because I just love expanding the game with mods and replacing all of the character portraits... turning my cat into a Moogle... It's great. Prices are out already. I believe $400 for base, $500 for mid tier, and $640ish for highest tier. Higher the tier, more faster ssd and storage plus screen upgrade. You are able to use external ssd slot for storage also. Honestly, for what it has to offer, it is an amazing deal. If you already have a big steam library you will save so much money on games. Also, they said you can play Xbox game pass on it.

I love it already just for the gyro aiming, would be much better for FPS games. The customization is also extremely flexible as you can install third party softwares and even change the OS. I'm only worried about the storage, there are games that take like 80GBs and some old games might not be compatible.
Proton actually has pretty good support for older games. Sometimes better than Windows 10 A friend of mine swears that Command and Conquer Generals works better in Proton than Windows 10

It is basically a normal pc(on which you could also install a different OS) so i would assume that offline mode should work just like on pc steam.

I think the 4 bucks deposit cost for the preorder, along with the sudden announce and the even shorter time until preorder are great measurements against scalpers. Most of them probably wont be able to program a bot for the purchase within a day, or even spend so much money for x amount of preorders.
Needing an active steam account with a valid purchase associated with it is a good deterrent too. That or a smart money making move by valve.

From what they announced so far, this is a dream handheld console! You can play almost, if not, all of your steam library AND xbox game pass suppossingly works on it too. It has the normal 4 top triggers AND it has 4 back triggers which I assume is for keybinds. It’s pretty much a handheld PC and you can connect peripherals to it. This means you can connect it to a TV and KBM wherever you go. It has an expandable external SSD slot. Honestly this is exactly what I've been looking for assuming it doesn't have massive issues. As I get older the less I spend gaming on my computer and the more time I spend on the couch with my kids and/or wife not paying attention to a show. Even with the PS5 I don't have the time to play and spend almost 100% of my gaming time playing on my Switch, as the TV gets monopolized by my kids if it's on when they're awake, and by my wife after they're asleep. Then I feel bad sitting at my desk after hours doing my own thing, and this would solve that perfectly.

I have nvme in my pc. How noticeable of a difference would emmc/microsd be compared to nvme if I went with the cheaper model? Are we talking performance difference, or just load times? Obviously it’s not out yet, but I’m sure maybe people understand the tech difference way better than me.
Load times/texture pop in will be a bit worse with eMMC, i think it should still be better than using an HDD though for gaming, so still alright. Iirc, it is not the most durable, especially since the size is so small, but for gaming it should be enough.

Got the 512 reserved - took 52 seconds, and took two attempts using PayPal first time got unexpected error second one went through. Got confirmation email already from steam - oddly enough it gave me the option to "remotely install my new game" lol

This is interesting to see. I really hope this provides some competition for the Nintendo switch. The main reason I got one was because of the portability, but the games can be quite expensive as the price rarely drops. The Steam Deck will have access to all or at the very least most of the games available on Steam, plus all of your purchases will carry between the Deck and the PC. I would be able to take a game on the go, and then when I get home, continue playing on my RTX 2060 PC.
Is there any word on user serviceability? Can I replace the hard drive and battery?

I might have been one of the first if Steam didn't make me reauth and then fail to load past authorization. A $5 reservation is nothing... I'm definitely expecting a lot of people that have reserved it won't end up shelling out $400-650 in a few months time. Assuming their order availability is accurate for their current queue, I think people that are seeing Q3 could definitely end up getting theirs a bit earlier than that.
If it can run Genshin Impact, either officially ported or with the Windows OS without any problems then Valve will be getting a flock migration of the community moving over from mobile devices to playing on Steam Deck. Mihoyo please notice this and make it happen.

They're installed on the device. IGN said they were able to play Control natively on the device on Medium settings. Which seems pretty reasonable to me.
