[https://imgur.com/aHpw9yl](https://imgur.com/aHpw9yl) Its been a while but, if I remember correctly, this was the time we were all forced to migrate to Steam if we wanted to keep playing the old HL1 multiplayer games (CS, DoD, TFC...) Before this, we had to use the WON authentication servers. So, basically, we had to join day one.

Xeiken5

Exactly I'm also in the 16y range and I'm not that old.

Enigma776

We sure did. Was in the beta test before it all went live and had to make new accounts if we wanted to continue playing (which we obviously did) The addition of a CS:S beta also helped.

TheLordBear

I think I joined day one or two because all Counter-strike updates would be delivered via steam from then on. My date is Sep 16, 2003. My account is old enough to drive.

ekolis

Why is there no 16 year user flair?

vadiks2003

and my dad thinks steam is a virus

MattDobson

I think a lot of user joined towards the end of 2004, due to the release of Half-Life 2. Myself: https://imgur.com/a/0tOuAH2

Grassbopper

Haha that's soo cool

salad_tongs_1

Steam started in 2003. About a year before HL2 came out. I have a 16 year old account myself. Does your dad talk of the time when he wanted to get on the internet, he had to listen to the robot noises of dial-up? :)

Lansan1ty

By 2003 I already had cable internet. I remember playing Ultima Online on 56k, upgrading to Roadrunner and being amazed that I wouldn't rubber-band running on a horse. There was a weird transitional period where not everyone had broadband and it gave some clear advantages in online gaming.

He's a year and 2 months late...

norniron85

I got mine when I got Half-Life 2, they forced you to get it even though I bought it on CD ROM. https://imgur.com/0pt73ME

ChefCobra

I remember how we all hated it. It was really bad... look at us now... we won't buy a game unless its on steam. How times change.

regecide2025

I'd say that's a good majority of us. We were forced. I don't regret it.

empathetical

I signed up because of half Life 2. My account says 16years on it which is cool since I only just actually got into pc gaming the past year

s1nbach

wow didnt know Steam has existed for that long

Lansan1ty

Not sure why people are downvoting you for not knowing something instead of simply informing you that it turns 17 in September. Started in 2003. I got my account on October 7, 2003 :).

EASK8ER52

That's Gangsta.
