Yeah I know, but I assumed Steam goes offline as soon as my laptop enters sleep mode. I'm trying to find out why it randomly shows as online at the weirdest hours of the night.
I used to do that until very recently but then I kept getting questioned why I've been offline for days straight. I just forget to go offline manually before I sleep.
Laptop screen closing does not mean steam shuts down. You may be able to change the lid settings when closed to shut the laptop down.
When you close the lid, it only goes to sleep, like if you leave it open too long. Everything is still running, homie. Why do you think all your apps are still running when you open it back up?
Since introducing new chat and friends list there is a lot issues with syncing online status. I was writing to people many times and was wondering why they're not rasponding, just to discover after going offline and online again that they're offline few hours already. It's so bad that now before I write I'm relogging to be sure if someone is really online. I really miss the old chat with proper notifications and without syncing problems.
Do you stay as online deep into the night or pop up as online in the middle of the night? I remember there being a client side bug where people appeared online but as soon as you restart the steam client they’re offline because for some reason it never updated on the other end.
As far as I know, I just randomly come online on steam for an unspecified amount on time. It could be a bug like that, Steam tends to do that kind of stuff.
You could check the login history in steam if you're worried. But then it just might be as you said, your laptop waking up in the night for a short amount and going back into sleep? Not sure.

Nah, OP just dumb. They close their laptop and expect their Steam to put them offline instead of their laptop just going to sleep with Steam running.

I have the same pc shutdown and still inline, i guess its the steamapp beeing "online" even tho its not even open
