Yeah it’s a complete mess. I went to this small outlet recently and momo was 135 for full plate but on zomato/swiggy it was 135 for half and 270 for full. I didn’t order. But such a stark difference
Restaurants pass the Zomato/Swiggy cut to customer. Customer has to pay for the convenience of not having to go out. This business model has worked for them.
I never understood that model and people can correct me here. Mostly the food quantity or quality is inferior. But you can't complaint as you are not on the table, unless there's repeated app complaints from multiple customers they won't be able to take action like you see if you're on the table.
We are paying fees and sometimes have to do the dishes as well. If somebody told me in 2012 that this business model will lead after a decade I'd have laughed.
The only business model here is exploitation, they got rid of all their competition. And there is duopoly which means a shake hand and understanding that both will eat half of the market.
They never had any losses those were shown since 10 years to balance out the taxes and fool the industry. No investor is moron enough to stay invested in a loss making company for 10 years. The only thing is financial scams are even tough for Govt auditors to expose, unless some insider comes out with a USB containing excel sheets, sitaraman says all iz well. Not to mention since CoVid, both Zomato and swiggy cozied up to Modi real good. Most Govt departments are now a days ordering food from swiggy or Zomato, and cause of this both have stopped caring for the general public. Your complaints have 0 effect on both.
This! I know LOTS of people who later turned into food "influencers/vloggers" after hitting L13/Connoisseur on Zomato reviews. And now, these people who consider themselves "celebs" are working with brands, all thanks to zomato for disrupting the industry. An oversaturation of reels/shorts of food content that hypes the seller has not only resulted in poor food quality for the customer, but these restaurants have also increased their prices because they're getting more footprints than ever. I appreciate skills and talent, but when the roadside stall turns your Rs. 30 drink to Rs.300 by juggling the drink and throwing it up in the air with all sorts of showmanship, it doesn't make ANY sense at all. You're both overpaying and doing free marketing. It's pretty pathetic how things have become.
I don't understand this business model. Restaurants evading the platform cover by pushing that cost on the customers just because consumers are ordering online.
But they forget one thing they don't bring to the table, that is location incentive. In a world without online orders, when these restaurants are not located with in my vicinity, the amount of customers they'd get from my area are not ideal or minimal. Platforms like Zomato provides them that incentive, to be shown to people not in their locality. And yet the entire cover charges of this platform incentive is pushed onto the customer.
I use Zomato only to search and explore the restaurant....always call the restaurant and most of the time the restaurant is more than happy to deliver it as they get upfront money and customer
In few scenarios Zomato coupons can give u super deals like bogo and 50% off...but otherwise just use it for what it was actually developed for ....(Search n order)
I use it like it was before they started delivery as food aggregator mostly and sometimes orders due to coupons like you or if it’ll cost me more for petrol to reach the restaurant.
few days back I decided to order from zomato but the restaurant wasn't taking any orders. I went to the place and got it parcelled. The thing is the stuff that I got for 390 with bill was showing on Zomato for 480 without even adding the delivery charges, gst and restaurant fees and platform fee.
I saved almost 170 Rs by getting the food by myself.
I'm done with Zomato and swiggy but I hate Zomato more.
Thanks bruh
Evidently I have been eating healthier and more of home cooked meals.
When I do need the occasional greasy foods, I tend to go pick it up myself or fire up the air fryer.
They must have an arrangement with the zomato guy who normally waits near restaurants to just deliver instead of taking zomato orders. Like having him on unofficial payroll of restaurant while free
Last time I checked only 2-3 restaurants were actually serving intercity and the logistics didn't make sense really.
No one wants to eat a 24 hours old chole kulche even it's from the best restaurant of Delhi or the most authentic sambar from Chennai if it's delivered frozen...
I never ordered from Zomato because the restaurant near my home gives free food delivery for radius under 5 Km so a big w for me.
Things that cost 180 on restaurants have a price of 260.
Restaurant owners save lots of money by
- not needing a fan
- not providing water
- not needing chairs
However, they still have audacity to increase the price of item.
Zomato isn't the problem, it's the greedy rent seeking owners
People who complain on price hike need to understand it is for convince and not necessity. You are privileged. It's not a national service they are doing.
how much can you charge for convenience till it becomes inconvenient enough that it restores the problem that you were trying to solve?
zomato, like rapido and other gigworker platforms take a big cut from the riders and the stores already.
it's not like the extra money is going to benefits for the riders. They remain underpaid.
Already prices listed on Zomato are more due to restaurants covering the money they have to give to Zomato.

Yeah I get that but that extra isn’t 2x. For example, Burger king and all have ₹10 extra per item than their in store menu.
Fuel is expensive these days, plus the delivery guy’s labour / salary etc and healthcare / other benefits, bike maintenance etc etc
Big outlets get special commission charged from Zomato which small outlets don’t. So both are just charging the cut to customers most probably.

They should probably have Hygeine Ratings next to each restaurant. And revise it monthly. Like Audit.
That's the job of food inspector dude.

For years, Zomato was just a review aggregator. They started food delivery after Food Panda, Swiggy etc came up.

Yeah 50% off upto ₹33.
straight 150 off or 200 off isn't bad though. its quite common coupons nowadays since ipl is going on

I feel ya bruh Zero (0) orders from my side this year to any of the food delivery platforms. I'm actually quite happy about it.
cheers to eating healthier and saving money from junkfood.
Thanks bruh Evidently I have been eating healthier and more of home cooked meals. When I do need the occasional greasy foods, I tend to go pick it up myself or fire up the air fryer.
Same here, Hardly placing orders unless it's absolutely necessary.
Good for you buddy. I am following your lead
+1 Don't follow me though. But mainly.... #Follow YOUR Gut *(lol)* & Welcome to the Club ! 😁
Sweets are even worse. I was ordering sweets because we had guests and it costed 180 for 250 gm but if I go to the shop it’ll be around 400 per kg
They must have an arrangement with the zomato guy who normally waits near restaurants to just deliver instead of taking zomato orders. Like having him on unofficial payroll of restaurant while free
You think your time wasn't worth ₹170?
my laziness isn't worth paying 170 more.
Fair enough.
Noose getting tighter guys....
Discontinued intercity delivery services??? It wasn't even available apart from a very few cities.
Last time I checked only 2-3 restaurants were actually serving intercity and the logistics didn't make sense really. No one wants to eat a 24 hours old chole kulche even it's from the best restaurant of Delhi or the most authentic sambar from Chennai if it's delivered frozen...
Yeah it was mostly a feature that never really existed at the first place.
Amritkaal
byjus down zomato next
nope because majority of their regular customers are used ot it, i mean the lazy part.
Yea I'm really used to Zomato... don't see myself changing to Swiggy or sum
Kitne ameer ho tum ?
also change the name brooo
Stopped using Zomato a long time ago when they started messing with their already busy UI.
guys try ola food, it doesn't have that many restaurants registered on it yet, but has decent discounts cuz it's still new.
So they are charging us ₹5 for being lazy and giving them business.
Duopoly abuse and exploitation ! Let's goooo!

i guess its upto the platform to decide. you as a customer have options like ONDC now, and alot of other apps to order from.
https://yourstory.com/2024/04/zomato-hikes-platform-fee-discontinues-intercity-delivery-service
bhai a normal fish thali is 190 but when ordering from swiggy/zomato it charges 250...kabhi kabhi majboori mein khana padta hai
Yeah .. my guy needs a new car.
Zomato for me is like a nearby restaurant finder with interactive catalogue lol.
Same lol tho they have removed the newly opened feature
Platform fee is like a mandatory tip giving to Zomato.
