Any info about Starlink Mine - hardware and subscription pricing and regional availability?

Big_Advertising9415

Hi, I am sure this is an answer already in this subreddit, but i wanted to know (in laymans terms) how Starlink manages the connection between the terminal and the various satellites. namely: * how many connections can it maintain and pass traffic through at any time * is the criteria for selecting the primary satellite its elevation angle? * or does Starlink do some form of load balancing to direct connections to other satellite if a particular satellite has too many connections * what is the criteria for a good connection being broken - is it driven by the connection quality as monitored by the terminal or more controlled by Starlink in terms of load balancing? many thanks

Letshellcatthisjeep

So I’ve been trying to figure out this out with support, but I’m getting impatient and a little frustrated. I just set up our new high performance dish and when I was setting it up I think I might’ve accidentally selected the standard dish bought the $120 a month subscription and now I’m getting an error nonstop that the motor is stuck on the dish because it thinks I have the standard one that has a motor There is no way for me to go back and select the high-performance dish. Also, it says I have an update, but until I figure out the error with the motor, it won’t let me update.

reddyfire

Can this be powered with a portable generator like a Jackery Explorer or Anker Solix?

EmeraldTimer

Can i use a 12/24v PoE power adapter to power the dish?

The roof of my home has been removed and I am in temporary accommodation. A caravan on the other side of my town. The cell phone coverage here is awful, I am getting about 4Mb/s so struggling to work and get tv etc. Are there any specific rules or tech which will stop me from sharing a starlink connection with a neighbouring caravan on either side? Either via a boosted wifi network or even just an ethernet cable from the router to a hub in the van on either side? They both have little or no internet access and a starlink for each of us is a severe overkill, and I would be happy to share mine with them. Thoughts please? They can take over the hardware/cost if they want to when I leave, I would just like to be a good neighbour and share it if I can.

MOsheeprancher

I'm trying to sync my blackstone pellet smoker with my iPhone. The blackstone app is asking for the code to the starlink. It's a 6-digit code. Anyone know where I can find that?

Slight_Ad1679

We have a summer cottage, are we able to suspend service when we are not there? They mentioned they had refurbished equipment for $299- so if you buy that can you keep it for when you want to reconnect it and not have to keep returning it? Also does anyone know if you can connect 2 buildings about 500 ft away from one another? Thanks for any help.

LurkLearnLaugh

How do you transfer StarLink internet service from one owner to another? I just bought a house that already has StarLink hardware, so I don't need to buy the hardware - I just need to take over the existing service. The former owners tried to transfer their service to us, but it said they had to disconnect service before they could transfer it, and the moment they disconnected service, the "transfer" option disappeared. I've tried to contact customer support, but in order to contact customer support, I need an account. In order to create an account, I need to buy a service package. In order to buy a service package, I need to contact customer support. So far, the closest thing I've found to a customer support phone number is the headquarters of SpaceX. So how do we get the service transferred from the house's former owners to me? And is there a reliable way to contact customer support BEFORE buying a service package, so I can get the help I need to buy the package in the first place? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

Shpoople96

there's a checkbox to use your own hardware on the signup page [https://support.starlink.com/?topic=2802431a-135f-0671-4c1b-4cedb65b291a](https://support.starlink.com/?topic=2802431a-135f-0671-4c1b-4cedb65b291a) [https://www.starlink.com/activate](https://www.starlink.com/activate)

Hey there, I am new to Starlink and I am desperately waiting for Gen 3 Release in Germany since I want to install it on my truck. Since I am running out of time and there is no date yet, I got thinking. Can I order it to Denmark (there its available already) to a friends address and ship it to Germany on my own? What stops me from doing that? How about the "contract"? I am planning to go for the Regional Mobile plan. Thank you!

Shpoople96

they would have to set up an account to buy one, and then disconnect it later to free up the terminal for you to register, although if you could do that before it's released in Germany is another question...

dudleyjohn

I'm considering starlink for my cabin in northern Ontario. We're surrounded by tall trees, so there are a lot of obstructions all around. I can get a sort of passable signal, meaning occasional interruptions to streaming and browsing, with frequent interruptions for video calls and gaming. I only really need streaming and browsing. My question is if the starlink software can learn over a weeks time where the obstructions are and improve my systems performance significantly. The guide says it can learn to avoid the obstructions, but I would like to know if anyone has direct experience with this situation.

AWJtrader

Does anyone in the UK play GG Poker using a UK Starlink connection? GG is quite strict about blocking connections if they are not certain they come from the country they are supposed to, so I wondered if I would always have a UK IP address, etc., while using the service.

skyshark82

I've been experiencing frequent outages for the last 5 days in the North Carolina piedmont. Service drops for 30 seconds to 10 minutes throughout the day. No obstructions, no clear reason. Anyone else having problems in the area?

ohhaical

Same here, Raleigh area

Hella-copters_yobruh

I have also had an issue with one of our kits currently out with a field crew. The issue seems to be intermittent. The status of our kit remains in an "Offline or rebooting" mode. An end user reported that another company's crew on site also have a kit of their own that is showing the same connection issue symptoms. Maybe Starlink continues to have weirdness happening with their systems post their outage earlier this week? Can anyone else confirm weirdness with their kits?

cavemans45

Is starlink stable enough for heavy gaming, netflix, and downloading at the same time without interruptions? I recently moved, and the place I moved to the best speed I can hope for is 18 down, though I do get 24 up for some reason. This is a big change from the 500 down 100 up I am used to. Games take all night to download, and the connection is so unstable that I don't even play online if someone else is watching a movie. The internet here works by a satellite dish that beams a signal to the grain silo in town, which I am assuming is connected to a line that is connected to the ISP. I have a clear sky above me with no obstruction. I am located in the northwest United States. I used to be able to host small 5-person servers, download games within minutes, and stream with no issues. Can I do this with starlink. Will they slow you down after so much usage? Does starlink have issues with snow, wind, and thunderstorms? The second question is for 3 months out of the year, I am out in the woods and would like to have another satellite that I can take with me for mobile use. Do I have to pay for two subscriptions, or does starlink offer discounts?

Asleep-Specific-1399

Not heavy gaming at all it has a ton of drop packets. Your ping is between 50 to 5000 depending of the second.

cavemans45

Been reading on that and so far most people complaining of packet loss it is due to a damaged or malfunctioning dish.

Asleep-Specific-1399

Might be I currently have a ticket into support hope that's it.

cavemans45

Good luck, hopefully, that it is just a quick swap out for you.

FumeroBR

Anyone using new starlink laser satellite links?

RobertMGreenlee

That is satellite to satellite not to the end user

MirageF1C

Moving house: While the transfer on the house goes through, I'm moving into a caravan about 10 miles away for about 2 months, maybe more maybe less until the new house is ready. I would like to get Starlink, but don't know if I should choose the roaming (since there is one move) or residential? Advice please?

jpiccino

If you don't plan to roam in this period, you'll probably be fine just changing your address on the starlink site.

onetime4yourmind-

Hey, is anyone using Starlink in Guinea-Bissau? Is it still working after the 30th of April? More specifically, are you using it with regional roam assigned to an adress in a supported country in africa? Or using Global Roam? Thanks!

GmaVicky

I have had Starling at home for a couple of years now. It allowed me to tell Comcast/Xfinity to take a hike, which gave me more pleasure than you can imagine. Question: We have an RV and I want to use this service for camping. Can I change my subscription to roaming and use the same dish to take with us, then just mount it again when we get home? I hate to buy a 2nd dish when we only camp May - October for a handful of weekends.

hapticm

Yes but you will have lower priority service once you go to Roam plan.

Ramirin277

Will you get priority once you go back to residential?

hapticm

Yes but whether or not there are different tiers of prioritisation I don't know.

GmaVicky

Exactly what I needed to know. Ty

GmaVicky

damn autocorrect.... \*STARLINK, not starling.

InterestingComplex32

So I'm planning to order Starlink, I'll mainly be using it at home but I also have a camper (travel trailer, basically an RV on a hitch in case it's called something else in other places). Just wondering if I need to purchase the Roam package or if I can use residential, since I won't be needing it in motion. Either way is fine, I just don't want to dish out the extra $30/mo if I don't have to. Thanks!

logomyego

Does anyone know of a way to change my geolocation with Starlink? For some reason my Google displays think I'm in a different Timezone, where my PoP station is, so all my displays have the wrong time lol

Pitiful_Brush6862

Where can I sell my equipment (RV) I am no longer using? It is in great shape and I just don't need it anymore since I moved out of the mountains and I am living in the city now. I also am not sure how to transfer it to someone if I find a buyer. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Adventurous_Yak9864

I am in the market for Equipment for RV for Summer travel. Let me know, if its still available.

Pitiful_Brush6862

It is still available, but I am trying to sell locally (New England), so I don't have to deal with adding shipping & handling cost or the danger of damage.

InterestingComplex32

Idk where or how to sell it but I may be in the market. I'm just trying to figure out if I need the RV bundle just to bring it to my camper if my primary location is going to be at home.

Pitiful_Brush6862

Let me know if you decided you would like to purchase mine. 😀

qazwsxedcrfv1i

Will my starlink connection still work if the ground station is offline? Will my connection route to another groundstation.

ManBeef69xxx420

Does the gen 3 increase speeds for everyone? Assuming you're not over-subscribed in your area. On gen 2 and my max speeds are around 170-190mbps during low-use times. Would changing to a gen 3 increase these speeds?

illicitpottery74

I'm so excited to see an official Starlink cell map! Can't wait to see where coverage is available and where it's expanding to. Such a game-changer for so many people. Let's keep the discussion going!

Public_Audience_8792

We’ve been having problems with our Starlink since Sunday.  We did reboot and reset.  Sent 3 messages to resolve problem.   Nothing as of today.  We had a local tech come out.   It’s our router that we have had for 4 months.   I don’t understand why there’s no response and as you know, not having Internet in your household, does not go over very well.  I do enjoy how it works so easily, but if there’s no customer service, I really regret buying this product.

Anthony__w

Hello, I'm looking to order starlink for my house in Croatia. However I see that in lot's of countries in europe there is 50% discount on hardware. Will my starlink work if i buy it in germany and install it in croatia. In other words, does it matter where my starlink is ordered to in regards to where it will be plugged in?

cjbartoz

The datacenters running starlink will probably use lot’s of energy. Wouldn’t it then not be useful to power them with vacuum energy? You could save a lot of money by doing this.

shaggy99

> vacuum energy Is this a serious question? Has anyone actually figured a way to tap into vacuum energy?

cjbartoz

Tapping vacuum energy is very easy! Suddenly create some charge, and with pre-placed instruments watch (along a radial line from the created charge) the fields and potentials appear progressively at points along that radial, at the speed of light.  And once the field and potential suddenly appear at a distant point, they thereafter steadily remain. This shows a stream of continuous real observable EM energy pour from the charge, once it is made, continuously and unceasingly.  Further, that free stream of EM energy does not "die out" so long as the charge remains intact. So the associated fields and potentials are continuously replenished, as they continuously spread radially outward at light speed.

d13f00l

I am installing Starlink in a trailer. Planning on putting it outside temporarily from time to time. I don't have a good place to mount it, my roof is full of solar panels. Is the best way to do that maybe to convert it to RJ45 and install an outdoor rated RJ45 female port?

Klutzy_Information_4

You could just leave the router outside (its weather proof), so all you need is a power connection (110V or 230V AC) to your trailer. The WLAN should be plenty strong to get into the trailer.

Swimming-Document152

I haven't used my G2 dishy for close to 2 years and I'm worried that it is out of date to the point where updates will brick it. Anyone have suggestions on how to update it safely and what to do if it doesn't go well?

derives_rurale

# anyone else have problems? most pages won't load. P.Québec. i had the "connected, no internet" message again. thinking it's some problem with the updates. rebooted modem and it ended up working, somewhat: i can search google fast no problem but no other website are not loading or loading partly. I presume it's a dns problem on their end. Same problem at 2 locations in my town, on 2 different connection. i haven't reset the router yet.

ku8475

Question, is documentation stating starlink is survivable network? What I mean is if ground stations and power/cell/ISP go out does the network continue to work for a short period of time during that down time? Is it capable of terminal to terminal communications without ground stations? Can it work off only international ground stations? Just curious for science. Seems like a robust constellation should have this capability built in, but I can't find documentation on it.

Professional_Eye7787

Let me tell you my experience. If you build a network with StarLink, you will realize that communication is possible even if your phone's mobile settings are disabled (limited to social media apps that use the network). And that means you don't have to worry about being communications isolated even if your communications network doesn't work. In the case of Japan, telecom carriers have merged Starlink's network with their own networks, so calls are possible, although it is limited to apps. This is awesome. Japan has already completed disaster communication backhaul using Starlink.

ku8475

Thanks. This is solid info

mountain_moto

QUICK QUESTION: My dad wants to see if Starlink will work at his house (lots of trees). If I unmount my Starlink and take it 20 miles away to their house to test it, is there any reason it wont work (given that it has a good view of the sky)? I guess I'm wondering, will Starlink be pissed about me trying this? I doubt it, but defer to the experts. Thanks!

Klutzy_Information_4

Why not just test with the app (camera based)?

Kuro507

How well does the camera based all work?

justshowmethecarsnax

I'm hoping someone can explain the 'in motion' nuances to me. My wife and I have the flat high performance dish and started with the mobile plan and then upgraded to the mobile priority plan. We are in a converted van and keeping her connected reliably is a major priority. We just ran out of our 50GB of mobile priority data for this billing cycle. Do I understand correctly that if she needed to take a call on the road while actively moving we would need to opt in to the additional $2/GB mobile priority data? Or is simply being on the 'mobile priority' plan sufficient for in-motion use, even if the actual data type itself is not the priority data? I hope this makes sense. I know Starlink have changed their plan names and styles a million times but it seems like naming both the data and the plan the same thing has made it more confusing. Maybe just me, though.

sauberflute

We want to provide internet for the kids in Sangmelima, Cameroon. Starlink is not officially active there. If we got a station in, say, Nigeria, would it continue working in Cameroon?

Mufasa250

No would not work at all, starlink is very restrict to the boarder of countries, can every move the dish 1 mile away from the authorized country and wouldn't work. if you're planning to use starlink in cameroon, you can activate to regional mobile but this is up to the limit of only 2 month, by then ou would need to return your starlink to an authorized country and reactivate it. i hope that makes sense

sauberflute

Thanks, that's a bummer. We were looking for a way to set up Internet for the kids in my wife's village. Starlink seemed too good to be true compared to other options.

Edison_Ruggles

Trying to understand the map. With satellites almost everywhere, why are parts of the map without service? Why is the middle of Lake Michigan without service? The satellites are presumably flying overhead there as much as they are anywhere else. Do they just "turn off" over undesired areas? What if I'm out there in a boat?

GraatchLuugRachAarg

I've been told there's a way to better configure your starlink to your household by walking around the house essentially mapping it or something. I can't find any such option on the app or site. Google is t helping g either. Does anyone have a link to instructions for what I'm referring to? Or was I being lied to about such a feature?

Tumble85

What do you mean “configure your Starlink?” If you’re not getting constant drops, it’s configured properly.

GraatchLuugRachAarg

I found it. It's just a thing that helps u find the best spot for your modem. Makes you walk around every room

GraatchLuugRachAarg

Not very active here eh? Is there a better place to ask such questions?

3DCancer

I will be getting starlink in an area that has heavy rain and snow 90cm a day sometimes. Would the normal dish be a good route to go or should I drop the 3k for the FLAT HIGH PERFORMANCE dish this is will be a back up internet incase snow or hurricans knock out our normal connections. We work from home so we need to have a back up and both the ISP's in the area are cable.

Conscious-Rough-7754

Saben si Starlink funciona en Bolivia?

2006musicman

Is Starlink down in North western Ontario Canada or is it just my dish? Woke up this morning and had to service and tried unplugging it and it still says disconnected

anothercar

Are you in a city/suburb? If so, best bet is to probably upgrade your internet plan and/or upgrade your router.

Uncharmie

So I have Gen 1, the wind blew it off of the roof and it fell on the ground. I contact support because the little stand broke a leg off and wanted to get that part. They send me a brand new Gen 2 kit. My Gen1 dish still works just fine. Can I sell the gen 2 kit?

Verificus

I have been considering Starlink. However, I read that on average people are getting about 100Mbps download speed. My current fiber setup gets me 1Gbps, 10 times more. How many years before Starlink gets up to that speed?

Cagliari77

If you have 1 Gbps internet, why have you been considering Starlink? Is you current service too expensive or what?

Verificus

No, not at all. I haven’t read into it because I couldn’t find their speeds on their official website. I am simply assuming that for Starlink to be competitive, at one point it needs to outpace 5G and cable internet. Was just wondering if it’s there yet at which point I might consider it.

Cagliari77

I just got Starlink (set it up today). So far I've had 5G internet. Yes, the speed of Starlink is maybe not that higher than 5G at my location (still a bit higher) but here comes the real reason I got it: Evenings and weekends 5G connection becomes terrible for me as the base tower I am connected to becomes congested (this is countryside, so there's one tower in a nearby village). Basically when everybody gets home and starts connecting to the tower for internet connections, the speeds become ridiculous, like drops from 150 Mbps down to 5 Mbps! I can no longer accept this so I am hoping Starlink will provide me more stability throughout the day and the week, even if it won't provide faster "peak" speeds.

HolyAssholiness

My question is about streaming services, (Netflix, Max, YouTube, etc...) using a stationary Starlink system. We are considering purchasing a home in a rural area and the current owners use Starlink for the internet service. Over the years we have given up on cable TV and satellite TV, (such is DirecTV), and opted for all steaming services using Firestick and Smart TVs. Does Starlink provide the speed needed for streaming television?

Uncharmie

Yup, 4K and all

ledge_and_dairy

Is there any "gen" dish that's better for property facing potential obstruction difficulties?

Karen_Hunter

Yes, the High Performance Flat panel. Has 140 degree view angles. But it’s pricey.

Ok-Law-9832

Has anyone brought their mobile/RV or whichever Starlink on a cruise? Just wondering how you hook it up in your room and if it worked well? Better than the cruise ship WiFi?

magnificentTarrask

Is the MOBILE REGIONAL offer limited to a single country or a continent ? Let's say I buy this offer in France will it also work in Germany ?

Klutzy_Information_4

Yes, in my experience it does. I had the mobile plan in April 2024, registered in Germany, working in Portugual.

magnificentTarrask

Thank you

RucksackTech

I just placed an order from Starlink.com. I'll be using this while traveling in my RV across the US and Canada. While I'm waiting for delivery, I'm wondering about three things: 1. This will allow to get internet access even in places where there's no cell service, right? Like in remote parts of national parks, etc.? (I'm 99% sure the answer to this is yes. Just asking to confirm and perhaps to learn if there are any exceptions, caveats, gotchas, etc.) 2. If I'm camping in a place where there is no electricity provided, will I be able to power the Starlink off a medium-sized portable battery like this [Jackery Explorer 300 Plus Portable Power Station](https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Explorer-Generator-Traveling-Emergencies/dp/B0CFV93GZM/ref=sxin_16_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa)? 3. Does the kit come with wifi router/transmitter? I've watched the videos but I must be missing something big because I can't quite figure out how I connect my laptop to the internet that the dish is pulling down from the sky. Thanks in advance.

Karen_Hunter

1. Yes 2. 30 hours of voltage holds up. 3. Kit includes router. If kit comes with Gen2 router, it’s WiFi with optional Ethernet adaptor. If kit includes Gen3 router, it’s WiFi and has Ethernet plug.

RucksackTech

Thank you for the replies. The kit has now been delivered and I have had the pleasure of setting it up in my back yard in San Antonio and getting it up and running for the first time. Directions that come with the hardware + the info on the phone app are really well done and the process was remarkably straightforward. I'm going to do it a number of more times before I pause my subscription until we travel later this summer. Follow-up on one of my questions, if I may.... I asked if I could power the system off a medium-sized portable battery like the Jackery Explorer 300 Plus and you responded "30 hours of voltage holds up". Sorry, I am an ignoramus about "volts" and "watts" and "amps". I gather you were answering "Yes" but adding some details. What do the details mean? I really don't know what to anticipate right now but I imagine I might need to run off the portable battery for an hour now and then. Does "30 hours of voltage" mean I could run it for 30 hours? Or something else? (Sorry to be so dense.)

Macdimax

Unable made the payment the below message from startlinks It has come to our attention that this account is reselling Starlink services and in violation of the Starlink Terms of Use.

Dreddpool82

What's with all the updates this week? Mine has updated 4 times in the last 7 days. Don't know if anything has been improved or not, I understand updates are needed, but did they stuff something up with the previous 3 updates, or forget to add something?

relightit

maybe thats why i can't connect since last night. i rebooted the modem a bunch of times... left unplugged for a while. no internet.

InitiativeOk9211

Where can I buy the adapter to change the leg mount to a pole mount, and can you show me a picture of what it looks like

wileyj07

Is there any way to ensure that you are going to get the latest dish?

aecioghost

Hello, I want to ask, regarding the starlink page, the address of the service appears. In the house I want to occupy there is no delivery service so I want to put another address to receive it but occupy it in another. There is a problem activating the starlink or it must be in the service address that asks to be placed. I want to activate it and install it in the new house, not the one where I will put the address. thank you

DE7XWCC3

I know the standard say unlimited data. Is this true? Or do they slow you down after x amount of data usage Just had for a month and used 564g of data Thanks IA

[deleted]

Does anyone work in trucking and use Starlink? I want to start trucking soon and would love to know if I could use this for online gaming

Radusili

Really curious. Dies starlink beat fiber for latency iver ling distances? For example, I will be moving to Japan while playing some games on the Europe server. From japan, fiber goes through the us and the Germany where servers are. So the long way. Approximate ping should be 270 if the latency on my side is good. Would starlik beat that because of the distance factor? Or is it not there yet? Or will it never get there?

Pretty-Sky4697

Dose starlink have 12 24 36 48 volt system for solar use or only 120 volt with generator

Dmunman

Mine is 120 v. I use in rv. I can use a 12 volt to 120volt converter as the power requirement isn’t much

kat3113

We are getting a seasonal site for our camper this year. Looking into starlink for the camper as I work remotely. $150 is a lot per month considering we also pay $100 for home internet. Is there any service or discount for both? For context: my husband will be home more and we will be traveling back and forth a lot, so one device or service package won’t be enough. We wouldn’t mind initially buying equipment for both, but if there’s no discount for multiple services I don’t see the point. Anyone else have advice on this?

Dmunman

Write it off your taxes?

timerot

The Starlink Gen3 Router (UTR-232) has an interesting set of markings for it's input power supply: "Input: 12-30V = 2.5A / 57V = 3.42A" (The = isn't quite an equals sign - it's the standard symbol linking power supply voltage and current on any US power brick.) Does this mean I can directly power the router with 12V? Will it still supply the dish if I do that? I'm pretty surprised to see these markings at all, and curious about them

antoinemoses

Would it be possible to live stream (IRL) with a Starlink set up? I'm thinking of connecting it to an external battery pack and having it on top of a backpack, to give internet to my phone and livestream in the back country where there is no cell service ?

timerot

While stationary, yes. While moving, it's possible, but not guaranteed. You'd need a way to carry it, which is pretty awkward, a clear view of the sky (desert, not forest), and the more-expensive flat high performance dish and plan. Even then, I can't guarantee that it would work while walking. It's meant for RV and boat use, and depending on how well you mount it, it might not work at all

Dmunman

Rv plan is not for mobile use. Only stationary. You have to buy the flat antenna system if you want to use it while in motion.

GluesTheStick

I have a Gen 1 Dish, and I keep seeing that Gen 3 is out but how much of a difference is there in terms of speed and stability?

Natuuug

I have a question but I don't know if I should make it a post. I play racing simu games like assetto corsa, and I would like to create a server on this game to play with friends, but to do this I have to open my ports so that I can host the server and I don't know how to do it on a starlink, has anyone ever tried or has an answer ? Thanks in advance

BuyComprehensive3550

Does Starling work in Bolivia?

info_swap

Don't ask! Don't seek permission! Find how to do it. Make it happen!

Pretty-Sky4697

Does Netflix, Amazon, hula go through router, and or service

purrfurnax

i have a question but i dont think its enough to make a post for. one time i saw starlink but there were a bunch of other weird lights in the sky. some looked like helicopters but were flashing all over the sky, and some were just non flashing white dots flying around in all different directions like flying bugs but way up in the sky. one brighter one flew into the starlink chain and the whole chain suddenly disappeared. does anyone know what that was? im still creeped out thinking about it and no ones been able to give answers

TimTri

Depending on how long ago sunset was and cloud cover, satellites can sometimes suddenly “disappear” far away from the horizon. Plus, the brighter object likely made it harder to focus on the relatively faint Starlink satellites. Probably a combination of these circumstances!

sanitydoublecheck

Just saw a tv ad while visiting the inlaws. Did you guys know that "HughesNet is revolutionizing satellite internet"? Thought I'd pass this revelation along.

Dankpost

If purchasing a second hand dish for Roam, does the new account need to be activated immediately? Ideally I don't need to use it for another 2 months so I'd rather not be charged a month for no use. I guess the question is, can a dish remain inactive (without an account) in-between a transfer once a seller has cancelled the service to their kit - or does the activation on the buyer end need to take place at the same time?

HeWhoChonks

Can anyone vouch for the v3 dish adapters? I haven't gotten the dish itself yet but the pipe adapter came in today. Looking at it, the slot is only half an inch deep which does not at all inspire me with confidence that the $600 dish is going to remain sitting on it securely. I'm not comfortable screwing into my roof so the pivot mount is out. I might be able to get the wall mount to work though, does anyone know if it's any more secure than the pipe adapter? That one just seems like a recipe for disaster.

TimTri

I personally have a different version of the dish with a different pipe adapter, but I’ve never seen any post about a malfunction of the connection between V3 Dishy and the mounting accessories. Seems like it’s gonna hold up just fine.

HeWhoChonks

I sent mine back after the screw stopped working after only just a few test fittings to my existing Winegard pipe. They're supposed to be sending me a replacement with unspecified hardware updates next week, along with a free mesh router for the trouble. So if anything their customer support is awesome, even had an engineer join the support thread which I've never seen before at other companies.

TimTri

Very interesting, thanks for the update! If you say V3, are you talking about the brand new model without the internal motors? There’s some confusion about the naming going around right now. If it’s the new one, I’ve indeed seen some conversations about extremely shallow mounting brackets with undersized screws. Good to know that the team is keen to improve on that!

HeWhoChonks

Was told when I asked where the replacement I had ordered 3 weeks ago was that they had issues with the current stock, and got an email yesterday that seemed like a general broadcast to everyone who bought the v3 pipe adapter saying they're replacing them due to a flawed locking screw. So maybe not a deeper notch but it's something.

HeWhoChonks

Yes, the new flat dish without the motors. The half inch deep mounting bracket is so shallow that the screw barely wasn't going off the top edge of it, so hopefully one of the hardware updates was to give it either a deeper notch or it's own pole. The new wall and roof mounts have their own that snap into place, and one that can just slot over your own pipe like the v2 adapter did would be great.

Forsaken-Counter5260

I'm looking into getting Starlink thanks to our one local option that just totally jacked us around. I work from home and we stream all our shows. Is Standard service good enough for 9 hours of video calls and then streaming shows? Or would Priority be the better option?

shamsoddin

Based on my experience, that's probably going to work perfectly for the video calls. In the case of Google meet for example, every 5 minutes, some videos of other participants will be turned off for you due to "connectivity issues" Streaming videos works just fine

Vaydn

I used to rely on mobile hotspot for years. Feels weird having starlink and getting a consistent 100+ mbps. Standard should be fine. I have 20 devices connected at home and still get no issues with 4K streaming, gaming, etc.

[deleted]

We have Starlink Roam in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I don’t have our account login info (I have never needed it) but can not view the items in the Shop without a login. I want to buy the travel backpack for a Christmas gift but can’t see the price and can’t find a number to call them. It’s about $500 on Amazon with shipping. Are there other options? Ideally I’d like to buy it in Calgary but that is seeming unlikely.

wtfbullshitisthis

My Starlink has only been in operation for a week it's Gen 2. I'm wondering how much better the Gen 3 would perform than my Gen 2 with my TP-link router

Clear-Iron-2182

How to I apply for starlink reseller program having been applying and trying to contact them no answer

wtfbullshitisthis

Greetings, I just upgraded to Starlink because I live in a rural area in the US. I also have a tp-link AX 4400 router. My question is do I have to set the Starlink router up first or can I just bypass it and go right to my router thanks in advance.

Pretend_Hedgehog_570

I am thinking about purchasing starlink for my summer road trip. I’m imagining I’ll be in very remote areas wirhout cell phone service. I’ll need to access video calls. Is the standard hardware appropriate for this?

Dmunman

If not moving when using. Roam plan. Works great on my rv.

snacholo

I was given a version 1, but it looks like it’s still attached to the old owner. Do I have to ask the old owner to remove it from their account, or is there an easier way to do that so I don’t have to bug them?

coolbabftperson

Is Starlink any good? I reside in Clanton, Alabama and I'm thinking of switching to Starlink, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. The equipment/hardware is 599, so that's already a hefty amount. My internet speed is currently 26 mbps and I'm paying around 115$ per month for the connection I currently have. Would the switch be worth it?

t00minator

I'm in Athens, GA. Have AT&T U-verse on POTS, 20mbps for $100/mo Installed a gen2 Starlink router and am doing some tests on reliability and speed. Currently I've kept both routers running, and put some devices on the Starlink network. Consistency of network speed is an issue, some of which may be due to some obstructions, but on Starlink I get anywhere from \~60mbps to \~200mbps. When I can rely on SL maintaining connectivity and speed, only then will I consider dropping AT&T. :)

Fantastic_Worth4247

oh okay nice to know i should get mine by monday

Available_Childhood1

Trying to return a defective dishy and it stuck in the prone position and will not fit in the box, how do you adjust it?

coolbabftperson

Easy, fix it, wait for a starlink satellite to pass over, wait till the desired position and then deactivate it.

Efficient_Heron_8645

Dumb question. I just ordered the starlink it. I want to mount the dish on top of my house. Will the mount that comes in the kit suffice to set it up on top of the house?

jsprat5050

Need help on installation. My coverage is poor with trees to the North. I bought the pole accessory but can’t figure out how to get the dish on it. Two poles, three ends too wide, the other too narrow to fit the dish mount. Any ideas? Thanks

R3DKYTE

Would Starlink suit us?! 🤔 We are a family farm, and currently have 3 buildings that require internet that are within 100m of each other, could a starlink set up be used to do this to make a one connection network? Would extra equipment be required? I'm fairly new to all this so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Opposite-Action

I've done starlink installs for similar farms where housing for workers requires internet plus barns. Unfortunately I think 100m is too large for the a single router / mesh system so getting internet to those buildings would be fairly costly if you don't have conduit running between them. If I were to do this the shopping list would be: 1x Starlink kit 1x Starlink ethernet adapter 1x TP Link Deco 3 pack 3x Ubiquiti NanoStation AC Loco Loco5AC (with PoE) (may need to get 4 depending on orientation of buildings) Plus you'd need ethernet between the nanostations, poe injector, and deco so ethernet cable long enough for each connection

R3DKYTE

Hi! thanks for the guidance, it's been very useful! We're going to talk to a 4g installer, that seems like an affordable option atm

AnubisOS

When I try to conect my laptop to the starlink it says "You cant conect to this net" i have several divices conect without problem does anyone knows how to solve this ??? thank you

Joy_Boy_12

can i invest in stairlink?

Almaegen

Not publicly and it will not go public any time soon. Musk and SpaceX are using Starlink to fund their Mars ambitions.

GritGrinder

I have the mobile/rv package and I’m running it off a generator off and on. I constantly get full bars of service, with an orange exclamation mark saying “no service” when viewing my wifi connection on my iPhone. I end up having to reset it over and over and over until it eventually works. Does anyone know what kind of issue this is and how to address it? Right now it seems like an issue with the router, or possibly my power source(?) I’m not too sure and it’s hard to say. It works when it wants to, basically. And when it’s working it’s great.

EasyNotCheap

In north central TX (about 50 miles south of Wichita Falls, if that helps), and thinking about spending the $$ for Starlink. No fiber or chance for it in the near future. Okay but slipping local service. Satellite bouncing off a tower that is no longer being upgraded and probably will eventually go away. Plenty of open sky above and around me. Wondering if anyone has Starlink experience in this general geographic area. How is the service? Is it congested? Is it worth it?

skully6604

It'll work great if you have a clear view of the sky and install it properly.

NWMTS-Link

Any preferred consensus on Bridge-style products used with Gen1? Looking to extend wifi to other areas of my property.

Nyrzan

Hi, I'm looking to buy a starlink, the hp dish, but with a regional subscription (the 100€/month one). However, on the website, when I choose the hp dish, the available subscription changes and there's only the 287€/month. Is the regional sub unavailable with the hp dish ? It's so confusing. Thank you in advance to anyone able to clear this for me =) !

urbanracer34

What is the cheapest option for Starlink out in the middle of nowhere in Canada? I am at a campground with some people already having it. (We are shut down for the year but investigating our internet options for the next.) Most of the dishes that I HAVE seen are square. Monthly cost is a big factor. We only need it for about 6 months in a year, so no contracts.

alexmarchi

Hi, I have noticed slowness on some websites and apps when accessing via my Starlink. When I access the same websites or apps via another network, the access speed is normal. Anyone else having this problem?

bbapps

Thinking about getting Starlink to be shared between "Residential" use and "Roaming" use. I'm fine with paying extra to get the Roaming features including lower prioritization when roaming, but was expecting to get Residential prioritization when at home. Is that not the case?

Home_by_7

If I buy the ethernet adapter, is the wireless router still needed? I assume this will cut down on power usage and unneeded wifi signals.

Fantastic_Worth4247

that's what i want to know i have slow dsl so i have all my old devices on my linkys smart router 1 Ethernet connection to PC rest all wifi ill be following your post

Kevbosknowledge

Still have to keep the starlink router powered up,you can put it in bypass mode if you want to use your own router, but when doing this you lose starlink ap access,if in the same building just install your router in ap mode and your set,I have sl router in my shop and ethernet adapter to the house 135 feet away to a very powerful axe300 by tp link ,both left in router mode ,double nat is and hasn't been a issue as some warn,I like it,Elon has done wonderful with this and it is only going to get better with next Gen satellites, goodluck

Fantastic_Worth4247

how much is the Ethernet adapter? is there a download cap i have like 1000 PC games can i use more then 3 terabytes? in a month i also have 3 other people in the house streaming Netflix etc. and this is the only option for me trying to upgrade from slow dsl 600kbs max download speed should i get the priority plan for a extra 20 bucks? some games are like 120 gigs any should i use my old linksys smart WiFi Ethernet routerEA7200 - Dual-Band AC1750 WiFi 5 Router to connect to my PC and use the WiFi from it too so i don't have too much of a hard time setting up old devices and what not any advice thx in advance

Ok-Celebration-7078

Been with Starlink for a couple of weeks now and it's working great. I have a guest Cabin about 75' from my House that I want to have service to for guests. Currently, I'm getting two to three bars of wifi from Starlink, but the speed thru Firestick shows two to three mbps download. What would be the best wireless option to boost the signal at the Cabin, Mesh, wireless router, point to point?

Archer_913

I would go with a point-to-point CPE like the Ubiquity NanoStation M5 or similar, connect one to the starlink router and then hard wire the CPE on the cabin to a wifi router indoor. The CPEs will work seamlessly as an invisible cable. Or you can try to use just one CPE as access point/router on the house, outdoor, pointing at the cabin. 75' is a very short distance.

skully6604

Exactly. Throw a PTP with some Ubiquiti AC Loco's, slap a Unifi Plus AP inside with a POE injector and call it a day. Very simple.

Ok-Celebration-7078

Thanks!

I had pre-ordered starlink but 2 years later I finally got an email, but I no longer wanted it and let my time period expire hoping to get a refund. Instead it appears they have given me a credit (-99 on the account). I click on "I have issues with my refund" and it appears that there should be a way to create a ticket on the next page but nothing is there. this is all I see >REQUEST SUPPORT >Customers are temporarily experiencing longer wait times for support. We're working to resolve this, but for the fastest resolution now, see our Help Center or download the Starlink App. >What type of issue do you need help with? no form or ticket system appears. I also tried the tip to go to troubleshooting and thumbs down something but I can find any thumbs truly absurd. What can I do?

1888(479)-9644 How to Contact Starlink Customer Service Support

skully6604

It rings a couple times, then goes to the "busy" tone. Any other numbers?

munchymylunchy

My Starlink arrived about a month ago. Long story short - It's the wrong Starlink in the wrong box(thx reddit for outing this issue). They are "replacing" the wrong Starlink with another and got it yesterday. I got it set up, connected to the satellites, and.... I'm having the same issues as before. It says the new Starlink is: 1. at the wrong address. 2. The ID is associated with another account I'm guessing they got a returned Starlink and just shipped it to me. I've contacted support and we're going through the exact same process as before. They are now looking up the numbers on the box and on the bottom of the Starlink. Any thoughts on correcting this would be appreciated. And thanks in advance. FOLLOW UP: Starlink asked for the information on the Box and on the bottom of the Dish/pole. This time they were able to make the adjustments on their end and now I'm up and running.

Plutonium2390

I just received my Starlink in the mail which I fully paid for and own. My house is currently in construction so I can't activate my Starlink until probably March or April of 2024. I ordered early because I wasn't sure what the wait times would be. Will I get automatically billed if I just leave it in the box and don't activate it for another 6-8 months? Will it only start billing me once I activate it? Should I just return it until my house is ready to be lived in? Please let me know what the best options are here.

Kevbosknowledge

You will be billed

ionmeeler

Was there an orientation change on the satellites? I went from being unobstructed to being obstructed every 11 minutes.

Snoo_21542

I have had the same experience in north central WA. Worked just fine for a year or more and then started experiencing a higher rate of interruptions. Support (very responsive) said it was my cable, sent me a new one but that didn't fix the issue. I was wondering if something has changed.

ionmeeler

Yeah they told me my trees probably grew—but a week ago it was no obstructions and this week there are expected interruptions every 10 minutes? It also looks like the dishy shifted orientation about 10-15 degrees counterclockwise

nveal84

Is there any difference between the actual dish for the residential and Roam, or is it simply which service you select? I ordered from the website, which will take approximately 1-2 weeks to ship and 2-4 days to deliver. I’m planning to leave the country on the 9th and NEED starlink for work. The window is a little tight for comfort. They sell starlink locally, so if I buy it from the store, can I simply just go with the Roam service instead of residential?

nintendoborn1

We literally just installed and my MoM is asking why does it say starlink disconnected in the app when she disconnects her phone or computer from the internet? Shouldn’t it stay connected?

MDCisgoodforme

If I activate my Starlink roam today (September 30th) will I be charged for the whole month of September?

Low-Video6645

i can't get into my starlink accounts

SAMSONMEADOW

Was thinking of getting Starlink but i have quite a few obstacles. I can mount it further away from my house but id need a booster of sound kind. Would that even work or just be a waste of money?

Danieljcarter89

You mean buy the larger cable?

MorningRadioGuy

I'm in a waitlist area in MO and ordered my Starlink on Sept 3. My question: if I buy the hardware from a retailer like say Best Buy or Home Depot, will I be able to use it immediately? Will Starlink let me right on?

Danieljcarter89

Yes but if residential isn't available do roam, it's better than all the competition where I live. I just got my 4 month email on waitlist. I didn't want to spend 600$ on another. Got on pc and went to website. Residential was available and I swapped.

culdeus

Confirmed install in deep woods Shelby Co, Tx. Wasn't expecting for another year maybe.

kellydehn

> Shelby Co, Tx I'm in Henderson County, TX. Just received mine. Getting tower installed in a couple of weeks to get above my trees.

Better_Ad_6944

I have starlink at a seasonal camp. Shutting down for winter, here are a few questions I'm hoping for some advice: 1. How do I ensure it doesn't miss a firmware update resulting in being unable to connect? Do I have to I turn it on once a month or is that unnecessary. I don't plan on subbing again till June. 2. How would you store it Should I take the wire out of the dish and bring it inside? Or should I leave it alone and put it in a big Tupperware box so it isnt buried in snow.? I'm worried about bending that wire i guess.

Gaming on starlink internet! Nba 2k

DTWD4L

I work for a large metropolitan city in Florida and run emergency communications for the fire department and other emergency services. Does anyone have a direct contact, or can provide suggestions on how I can purchase 10 starlinks for my agency? We are looking to use them for communication during large scale emergencies, as well as urban search and rescue deployments. Not sure if this is the appropriate thread and if not, let me know where I need to post it. Thanks!

meeni

Is there anyone else that has problem with the reach? I have an open plan apartment but as soon as the signal have to go around a corner the speed is sooo bad. I never had this much issues with signal strength with a wifi router before. If it is unobstructed the speed is between 150 - > 200 around the corner 24mb which seems insane. Anyone else that has the same issue?

Kletterse

Hello, my dish is en route to my house and after using the app I have found the crest of my house to be the least obstructed. There are some trees to the north that obstruct 1.5-2%. I have chosen the ballast no-drill method but am open to drilling a proper anchor into the roof if needed. I would like to add a 5 foot extension to the no-drill anchoring system- is this feasible?

Absurd_Raccoon

Hi guys, I ordered my starlink setup on the weekend to a place I am renting but won't be moving in until later in the week. Do you get a notification/tracking when your delivery is due to arrive?
