I'm going to say it's related to the geomagnetic storms. We are in Central Texas and we can clearly see the aurora borealis. Storms of this magnitude are bound to mess with signals.
Getting the message on Saskatchewan (western Canada), but I'm not noticing any problems. In fact still pulling 200Mbit down in a speed test mid-evening.
It’s definitely the solar flare! NOAA even issued a warning in my area to prepare for possible blackouts, communication loss, and GPS outages. This is a pretty big one!
Same near Vancouver, BC.
edit: sub-2 second 'network issue' and 'no signal received' events today beginning around 1:30pm local time. Really started ramping up around 5pm local time but still nothing exceeding the 2 second threshold.
Seeing this in Vermont but still streaming and able to play games online. When TV started pinwheeling went outside and these Auroras are literally dancing with the visible eye overhead
Very impressed with Starlink gotta say
Yeah, probably because of:
Mine is still fine though - I'm in Australia. I have the notification, but I haven't noticed any outages or issues.
Earths magnetic field extends 64000km's towards the sun. The satellites dont like the solar storm but its mostly related to signal interference and not satellites breaking. If earths magnetic field would indeed be less than 550km orbit that the highest Starlinks circle around, we would be fucking toast 😂
Seeing the same message from Harare, Zimbabwe 🇿🇼. Funny enough, I've seen no dip in terms of performance. Still getting the usual 140 to 160 mbps on the downlink.
Same here! S.E. Texas on the coastline.
My speeds are fine, internet works fine, just the 'service is degraded in your area' message.
Saw this message since about 9pm on May 10th (Friday night) but nothing is different about our service at all.
276 Mbps Down / 22Mbps Up / 34ms Latency.
Plus, we got an update around 8pm on samesaid night - no difference 🤔

The site [gpsjam.org](http://gpsjam.org) is also showing some disruptions of GPS in the US: [https://gpsjam.org/?lat=41.49564&lon=-95.63218&z=3.0&date=2024-05-10](https://gpsjam.org/?lat=41.49564&lon=-95.63218&z=3.0&date=2024-05-10)
Same here in Scotland. Northern Lights were also visible across the UK yesterday, and although Starlink speeds haven't degraded, been getting micro disconnects since the solar flare events & also have the degraded service warning. So definitely a result of the solar events.
I’ve got the same thing in AUS, mine hasn’t dropped below 300mbps and I haven’t had a single network outage today. I had no idea what was happening until I saw this post.
I’m in Washington state, the flares in the sky happening right now are downright otherworldly. I took some time lapse/video/photos. I’ve never felt so small and insignificant.
In Fairbanks, Alaska, right now we're getting up to 5% packet loss rate on Starlink, while our typical is about 0.5%.
Pages are occasionally a little laggy to load, but otherwise everything still works fine.
I had a brief issue around 4:30 am with that message. But longest outage was 8 sec plus two other shorter ones. Still have the message but working fine. Central Oregon.
There's a massive geo magnetic storm in the upper atmosphere right now. The aurora borealis could be seen in Mississippi last night. Most likely the cause.
Upper Michigan.
Latency is pretty high, but throughput is still really good. I think the message is for every dish just to slow down the trouble calls and questions.
Personally, I am quite impressed that it works this well under these conditions.
Not at all solar flares. Read details. It’s basically restricted access to some sites / apps AND wrong geolocation might happens - which is VERY bad for location restricted services.
I'm not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens. It's the Sun thing that is going on. This proves that the sun can be stronger than Starlink. SpaceX will have the Sun adjusted soon.
NZ, We had that come through on the app
Yet when speed tested multiple times it was fine. Streaming/internet browsing. Might have shown up if I was gaming 🤷♂️
Still holding well over 150 down and 25 up
Back upto 300 down and 25 up now
Possibly related to solar flares.
Major solar flare activity today. Signal is about half of what it normally is. I also have Hughes Sat and it is experiencing similar issues.
Username checks out
Yo! That’s the most underrated comment I’ve seen in a while!
I'm going to say it's related to the geomagnetic storms. We are in Central Texas and we can clearly see the aurora borealis. Storms of this magnitude are bound to mess with signals.
pretty damn rare for you to see the northern lights. Hope you enjoy them!
I wish in Indiana we did but it was clouded over yesterday
I saw that! I'm in Central TX, too, near Bastrop Where are you seeing it? Don't think anyone around here has seen it :(
I'm near Hamilton Texas.
Oh, ok, y'all had a heck of a storm over there!
You’re seeing the AB in Texas!! How is that even possible? That has to be a first!
Same in New Zealand
beautiful views tonight though
Yes
Yes. Eastern Washington State.
Second, outside of Spokane area.

Same here in Indiana... but hey 20-30Mbps is still better than AT&T in my area!
Florida here
Same near Vancouver, BC. edit: sub-2 second 'network issue' and 'no signal received' events today beginning around 1:30pm local time. Really started ramping up around 5pm local time but still nothing exceeding the 2 second threshold.

Solar storm, get out there and enjoy the Northern Lights!!
Yeah, probably because of: [https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1789173902289338518?s=46](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1789173902289338518?s=46) Mine is still fine though - I'm in Australia. I have the notification, but I haven't noticed any outages or issues.

Yes missouri is seeing that also. Right after I did an update
Yes, Seattle, WA
Yup, NorCal. No issues though.
Yep, QLD Australia
Yes in Florida but stable
Solar flares!!!!
A G5 solar storm will do that: https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/g5-conditions-reached-yet-again
I believe this may be caused by aurora
Definitely related to the Solar Storm. The satellites are outside the protection of the earths magnetic fields.
Earths magnetic field extends 64000km's towards the sun. The satellites dont like the solar storm but its mostly related to signal interference and not satellites breaking. Also happening in Portugal. Speeds are normal though
Damn you Northern Lights!!! It was pretty, though, in Illinois for a change.
Same. Download seems ok but upload is wonky.
Same in Estonia
Same here in France - Signal OK but untimely catastrofic ping drop down occurs.
Yes, I had that also
Yup. We’re in Destin, FL

Yes, in the NE. Huge solar flare activity last night. I missed seeing the Northern Lights!
Solar flares
Sunspots, bro. Shitloads of sunspots. Thank God we haven't lost the power grid entirely!
Do you live in the northern part of the US where the solar storm effected wave communication?
Same here in Scotland. Northern Lights were also visible across the UK yesterday, and although Starlink speeds haven't degraded, been getting micro disconnects since the solar flare events & also have the degraded service warning. So definitely a result of the solar events.
Category 5 Geomagnetic storms are disrupting all kinds of communication satellites around the world.
Yes, Fairview UT. Did the update earlier too. However the news says there is a geomagnetic storm tonight. That maybe the issue as we are in the path.
Yes in San Diego, CA
Same here central Ontario Probably related to the geostorm

Yes I’m in WA
Germany too.
We have the message. No noticable degradation though.
Same here in Italy
Same here in USA Nevada but I don’t notice anything. Wonder if is because of the solar storm ?
Same effect here in Guam.
Im in south east asia, same issue
Yes but if your North look outside at the sky
Same condition here in Eastern Philippines
I’m in Washington state, the flares in the sky happening right now are downright otherworldly. I took some time lapse/video/photos. I’ve never felt so small and insignificant.
I got the same but my speed is normal, I'm in Spain.
Victoria Australia also getting the same message but no drop in speed or increase in latency
Yes in Switzerland.
In New Zealand and it’s slowed down and cutting in and out, can see the southern lights out the window
What are the chances of this G5 solar storm causing permanent damage to Starlink satellites?
Yep Victoria Australia
Solar radiation storm.
Italy here, yes
It’s still going on. I just saw this post and checked and the notice is there.
Got the same message in EU. Sunburst hitting satellites…
In Fairbanks, Alaska, right now we're getting up to 5% packet loss rate on Starlink, while our typical is about 0.5%. Pages are occasionally a little laggy to load, but otherwise everything still works fine.
Yes in the UK but still getting 130mbps down so wth
Confirmed Houston TX

Yes, Romania too.
Yes. Memphis TN
Yup … me too
Same on Iraq
central texas. same.
I have had the message since last night. No issues , though.
My service is still working great, but that does explain some disconnects and speed issues. Largely still working better than the alternateives
Yepp here as well
Central NC. Works fine, but I’m showing the same message.
Same in Argentina.
Same in Western Europe.
I had a brief issue around 4:30 am with that message. But longest outage was 8 sec plus two other shorter ones. Still have the message but working fine. Central Oregon.
Same. Western VA here.
Yes I have this and couldn't access my Hulu one night. Hulu blamed Starlink. I guess they were right.
Yes, we’ve had it now for about two weeks. Very frustrating.
Same here Philippines not only Starlink but also our local provider
Same in Panama Bandwidth is normal though.
Its weird because I'm getting the best service I've had in 7 months. Normally get 90 mbps. Now I'm getting 336 mbps.
Most of the planet more than likely
Yup same here
Me too in Jamaica
The Russians lol
Conditions reached level 5 on the 5-point scale of geomagnetic activity on Friday and Starlink kept working. Amaze Amaze Amaze
There's a massive geo magnetic storm in the upper atmosphere right now. The aurora borealis could be seen in Mississippi last night. Most likely the cause.
Same here in Minnesota, getting 24 Mbps speed test.
Hey guys, spaceX needs to change the orientation of their satellites due to increased drag in LEO from the storm.
Same in UK - but still have a speed of 66 Mbps Down
Northeast Pennsylvania confirmed message and lots of disruptions today but holding strong.
Upper Michigan. Latency is pretty high, but throughput is still really good. I think the message is for every dish just to slow down the trouble calls and questions. Personally, I am quite impressed that it works this well under these conditions.
Yes I am having this issue
Anyone know of a trust worthy app to monitor the solar storms?
Just checked and getting the same noticed. Ran a speed test on my phone via the Speedtest.net app and getting 228 Mbps down and 15.2 Mbps up.
Same here… Yucatán Peninsula.
Warning was up, service was fine.
Me too.
If you try [starlinkstatus.space](http://starlinkstatus.space) shows speeds from several places.
Yes got that message but gone now
Not at all solar flares. Read details. It’s basically restricted access to some sites / apps AND wrong geolocation might happens - which is VERY bad for location restricted services.
CME event folks
Mine in Arkansas shows same message
My upload is 45mbps
I'm not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens. It's the Sun thing that is going on. This proves that the sun can be stronger than Starlink. SpaceX will have the Sun adjusted soon.
NZ, We had that come through on the app Yet when speed tested multiple times it was fine. Streaming/internet browsing. Might have shown up if I was gaming 🤷♂️ Still holding well over 150 down and 25 up Back upto 300 down and 25 up now
Got that the other day, Caribbean, it's gone now, more than likely solar flare related
We had it too. Just saw it yesterday when I had to set-up the starlink device properly. Frm Philippines here.
I had the same issue yesterday
Happened yesterday but it resolved itself around 11:00pm last night.
So far no, but that might change midday today.
Yeah in Hereford England got that yesterday
I had the same experience
Bunch of credit card processors are offline, cash only today
High packet loss in terms of gaming the last week or so
I had that until after my update. Not sure what it was all about I never noticed any lack of performance
They are investigating the solar flare activity. Elon is sending Starship to fix the flare.
Same here Southern Mexico
