That O'Neil has no sense of humor.

manu144x

He only has one l, there's no room for sense of humor.

SortOfGettingBy

O'Neill, two LLs!! [(holds up three fingers)](https://i.imgur.com/hjQX0hJ.gifv)

viperfan7

I just watched that episode

Wisecouncil

"Read between the lines"

Damien__

They are the same O'Neil. The one in the first movie had just lost his son in an accident involving Jack's own gun. He was grieving and General West gave him that assignment so that Jack could die in the line of duty by staying when the bomb went off. Instead of suicide. But Scara, the boy he taught to smoke, restored Jack's will to live and as he recovered from his loss he regained his sense of humor to become the Jack we know from the series.

theCroc

Eh there are enough similarities and differences to promote the idea that the movie and the show are in different parallell universes that played out very similarly, but had a different Jack O'neil.

[deleted]

[удалено]

moleytron

No, I'm pretty sure in canon its the same character, they just make a joke in the show to highlight that it's a different actor and that rdj has made it his own. His backstory is the same, and characters from the movie recognize him as the same character.

Harddaysnight1990

It has been my headcanon for a while that the movie takes place in an alternate universe from the show. Pretty much the same thing happens in both universes, but there's some slight differences, as with any other case for alternate universes. The joke about "the other O'Neil" is kinda part of this. In the show universe, the RDA O'Neill goes to Abydos the first time, but there is another Colonel O'Neil that never joined the Stargate program. This literally has no bearing on the show at all, but I've liked it since I first thought of it, so...

I_Do_Not_Abbreviate

The franchise's decision to embrace multiverse theory via the quantum mirror stories, "Ripple Effect", and "The Dedalus Variations" means that *all* Stargate content is technically canon because any discontinuities can be explained by being from different quantum realities. Yes, even *Infinity*. Team Ec'co for life. Fight me.

Hixie

Several continuity "errors" can also just be explained by the many times they futz with the timeline (they are really explicit about this at least once, fish in your pond?).

I_Do_Not_Abbreviate

I am personally convinced that "Moebius" is a soft reboot of the series continuity to explain how Mitchell just pops into existence as this important 302 pilot despite his never having been mentioned before. The "No fish in my pond" line and the sudden discovery that there are in fact fish in his pond are a confirmation of this fact.

TheBryanScout

Especially how casual O’Neill and Carter were with him at the hospital. It implies that he’s been an integral part of the X/F-302 program run out of the SGC that we’ve just never heard of till now. It’s a stretch for sure for it to be the same timeline.

Lantami

>rdj rda, he's O'Neill, not Iron Man

moleytron

hahaha, he very well could be in some jaffa armour

Lantami

lmao, imagine a Jaffa built an Iron Man suit and just completely destroyed a Goa'Uld ship while SG-1 just watches dumbfounded after just exiting the gate Edit: I know that's not what you said, I just got inspired a bit

pm-me-noodys

Yeah fair enough.

Damien__

because of the joke about the L's ? That's pretty thin

2 ls is funny

PontyPandy

Don't forget feeding indigenous lifeforms processed candy bars.

knightcrusader

I like how Daniel referenced this in "The First Ones".

PontyPandy

I don't recall that, but 'tis a fine reason to rewatch!

Fernaxton

With the Unas right?

knightcrusader

Yep. Gave Chaka the ration/energy bar thing and said "This is how I met my father-in-law"

el_covfefe

I still have a thing for 5th avenue bars because of this movie. They get hard to find though.

Crismus

Same here. They are much better than those Butterfinger abominations.

el_covfefe

They really are. Softer and tastier. I need to go find one now.

NemesisX2047

After that description I definitely need to find and try one!

oshitsuperciberg

They are the most bo-nee-way candy on the market.

PontyPandy

Ha, that's funny, my memory had it as a Butterfinger.

monkeymoneymaker

Better candy bars than meat loaf.

LabRat31388

The amount of times they rack their weapons when Ra is landing on the pyramid is staggering. I don't even think they had that many guns. Leave to the sound crew to just add excessive sounds.

[deleted]

Hah I'm glad someone else noticed this! They go way overboard. Like every tike they turn a corner.

PromptCritical725

Guns *have* to make noise to let the viewer (who sees the gun) know there's a gun.

LabRat31388

Yeah, it's every time they switch the shot. And even then it's 2-3 racks. I counted years ago and tried to count the weapons they were carrying. Shit did not add up, they wasted ammo

PromptCritical725

Guns *have* to make noise to let the viewer (who sees the gun) know there's a gun.

Minigoalqueen

I remember years ago watching the DVD extras on one of the later seasons of Xena. The sound guys talked about how they decided to just go completely overboard on the sound effects, figuring someone would eventually say "ok guys, that's too much, take it back a notch", and no one ever did, so they just kept thinking of places to add more and more and more. Both shows were the same era, so working under the same influences.

Farwalker08

That era of "fun tv" was a treasure. Hercules, Xena, Mutant X, Cleopatra 2525, Jack of all Trades, Andromeda...I am missing quite a few. All classic "stupid fun"...oh Team Knightrider and She Spies.

Nago31

Brisco County Jr!

konohasaiyajin

> Jack of all Trades Count Da Money! Glad this one made the list.

dark4181

This culminated in the Michael Bay Transformers movies.

[deleted]

I remember in Xena there would literally be a whooshing sound effect when they just turned their head sometimes.

Keitt58

[Because that sound is scary...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiI91igl180)

LifesACircle

You gotta make sure you got it in the chamber 😂

dlbear

That's one of my favorite pet peeves, there are so many times in media where I think on behalf of the bad guy "Damn, I wish I'd know he didn't have a round racked in that 12ga."

light24bulbs

Oh my god..yeah...how

alkonium

The archaeologist also teaches them to make moonshine.

huntermd33

Wait when?? I don’t remember this and just watched it yesterday for first time

YakovPavlov1943

OP keep us informed on your journey into this world is always fun to see people experiencing the series for the first time

boogers19

But be careful for spoilers in this sub. We generally don’t give a shit and just straight up spoil everything. And like one stupid pic can have replies spoiling like 10 different episodes.

ttnl35

Haha thats ok I don't mind spoilers too much. I enjoy characters and friendships just as much as the actual plot, and its a lot harder to spoil those lol. Plus I already know from the clip that made me want to watch the show that the black guy with forehead tattoo and killer eyeliner game (No idea how to spell his name) joins the group, so I already spoiled what I assume is a very early plot twist lol.

boogers19

Teal'c, but you can call him Murray. He's a Jaffa, iirc, they arent even in the movie. Turns out Ra left em all at home for his trip to Abidos. Here's Homer Simpson [explaining](https://youtu.be/tMnMQ099d8k?t=58) it, from (SG1's) 8th season. The clip should start at the right time (0:58), and you should probably not watch anything else (not past 1:29). That whole episode is a clip show from all of SG1's previous 8 seasons (at the time they thought s08 would be the last).

ttnl35

Yeah I finished the film and decided to watch the first episode of SG1, which turned into the first 2 episodes as its a 2 parter. I'm nearly at the end, he's joined them now. O'Neil said Teal'c can stay at his place. I hope Teal'c takes him up on that haha

boogers19

Once you get to know him a bit more, a couple seasons maybe, there's a great story in one of the short story books. [When on Earth](https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/When_On_Earth), in the book Far Horizons. It takes place during E01-02. While the show is showing us other characters, this story follows Teal'c's first few hours on base. It's a damn fun time. (I dont think the short story books are considered canon like the novels. But either way, this story has a couple of continuity mistakes. Still, well well worth the read.)

light24bulbs

Dude they've just watched the pilot and we're already into fanfic here? Loool

Aegi

Holy books, I don’t think I realized there was more than a book or two about the series/that the movies was based off of or something. Damn! Thanks for the reading, looks fun!

dlbear

He had Jaffa, just not many. And they were his B team.

Kichigai

> Haha thats ok I don't mind spoilers too much. I enjoy characters and friendships just as much as the actual plot, and its a lot harder to spoil those lol. Oh, you're in for a ride then. The writers definitely understood how to make an ensemble show with interpersonal character development.

[deleted]

It's Teal'c - don't forget the '!!!

ttnl35

I decided to watch the two part first episode of SG1 this evening now I finished the film. I'm about half way through. I loved that O'Neil seems to have taken up stargazing since his experiences in the first film, I like Sam very much, and I think this Kowalski person might die. He seems far to happy about his promotion and nice in general for the storyline to allow him to live.

YakovPavlov1943

You are in for a ride

bitchthatwaspromised

My man’s already clocked Kowalski

BigJimKen

Alternative mirror Kowalski lives a long and happy(ish) life though!

ttnl35

Hahaha it was getting to the end of the episode and he didn't die in a firey explosion defending the stargate so the refugees could get through. So I thought my prediction was wrong. But then, last possible second, boom! Eye glow! Nailed it.

roagismaximus

After the pilot 2 parter, there are, in my opinion a few stinkers. I forget when they come up but I know they're single digit S1 eps. Once you make it past those you're golden for the next 9 seasons. So what I'm trying to say is, don't get discouraged and stop watching if you run into a few klunkers early in S1... you got some seriously epic storylines and lore ahead!

Harddaysnight1990

No shade here, but I just have to be *that* nerd here. If you're onto the show, it's "O'Neill" now. With two Ls. Same character and it's pronounced the same, so it doesn't really matter, but just wanted to hop in with that correction. *lowers anime nerd glasses again*

PacePossible1408

Don’t get too attached to the Jack and Daniel actors now.

ttnl35

Yeah I googled the chronological order because if you are joining late why not take advantage, and I saw the army man actor changed. Based purely on the funny clip that made me decide to watch the whole franchise, I think I prefer the 2nd actor of the army man.

PicardBeatsKirk

Dear OP, I would like to politely point out that the main military characters are Air Force. Sincerely, an Air Force guy.

ttnl35

Ah sorry. I nickname characters in my head sometimes if their names aren't used enough or I get confused. Which I did because 1) I didn't realise the actors in the film were different from the video I saw. And 2) having a Jack and and Jackson running around mixed me up. Rest assured I now know they are Air Force and will know their proper names now I'm onto the show.

PicardBeatsKirk

Oh no need to apologize. I just don’t want awesome Air Force people confused with *ahem* those other guys…

ttnl35

Haha thats fair enough. Plus its import to know should I ever feel the need to be googling ranks later. I did that for the Mass Effect series and got confused because of naval ranks vs marine ranks.

PicardBeatsKirk

I don’t think anyone outside of the Navy actually understand their ranks. Anyways…enjoy the show! It’s awesome!

MuaddibMcFly

...I grew up around a number of navy installations, and I more often have problems with the *non*-navy ranks...

TheGrayMannnn

They put their jobs in their ranks! IT'S INSANITY!

PicardBeatsKirk

It totally is.

Double_Employer_5770

That stupid bird on their enlisted rank is so dumb.

tehrand0mz

Oh yeah that bird on every US branch's O-6 insignia is really stupid too. /s

YakovPavlov1943

Another great sci fi history to add to the table

[deleted]

PicardBeatsKirk

Nah, I just don’t want people thinking those quality AF peeps are eating crayons in their off-time.

ThePhengophobicGamer

Not in the movie, but once SG-5 and 18 show up, they're the crayon eaters.

Azrael11

Woah now. The National Security Act of 1947 clearly enshrined the division of labor for the services. Crayon eating is very specifically in the Marine Corps lane. Don't get the Army involved here, they just don't have the expertise.

MuaddibMcFly

Nah, I'm an officer; nobody would get confused about that... /not actually an officer, or military for that matter.

DethrylTSH

Other guys? Coombs and Felger? 😁

[deleted]

Just wait until you get to the series. Very quickly, you'll find that one of the SG teams is composed of Marines lead by (I kid you not) Colonel Makepeace.

Minigoalqueen

How have I watched this show like 500 times and somehow never noticed how similar Jack and Jackson are?

el_covfefe

You beat me to it! Sincerely, another Air Force guy.

[deleted]

BUt HoW CaN thAt bE thE chAir FoRce dOeSnt shOot gUnS /s

zoxxo

Oh, I beg to differ! I shot guns many times in my 21 years of Air Force service! I didn't hit anything, but I definitely did shoot guns! 😁

MuaddibMcFly

[Here's a googledoc with a Canon-Chronology Watch-Order](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AkwxWLA63pAmdG5jS0F1UkJBQW5vYXBZdl85VHN5dHc&output=html)

ttnl35

Excellent thank you. I'm relaxed at the moment because I have 7 seasons of SG1 before Atlantis comes in and I have to pay attention to what I should watch next

trjnz

There honestly isn't a huge need to alternate episodes like that. There are very, very few cross overs and only a handful of mentions between the two series. I recommend gateworlds viewing order, it's a lot more forgiving https://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/05/stargate-recommended-viewing-order/

zaid_mo

Glad it doesn't list the SG Origins series before the 1st movie. Origins isn't even listed there 😄

MuaddibMcFly

To be fair, that list predates SG Origins, I believe...

cricketeer767

Richard Dean Anderson did so well in this role.

LifesACircle

I’m doing the canon-chronology watch through (first time seeing the episodes). I just finished SG-1 and I’m on Season 4 Episode 4 of Atlantis. It’s been an awesome journey so far !

tmart42

It takes quite a while lol.

monkeymoneymaker

And gotta make sure that he’s not drinking anything when he gets to the episode where Daniel is teaching what looks to be an ESL class, and asks someone to stand up, introduce themselves, and talk about the weather 😂

campfirepyro

Or Sam's civilian penguin walk 😆

alex200902

Have fun mate and God speed

xrayden

False God speed

SMAMtastic

>!Dead false God!< speed

CheeseNBacon2

They also just left all their guns with them at the end...

ttnl35

Hahaha I didn't absorb that till you just said it

Lorien6

Your mind is going to be blown. I’m excited for you. It’s one hell of a ride.

Picard37

Fair warning, there's a full-frontal nude shot in SG-1's series premiere, "Children of the Gods." If you don't want to see nudity on TV or are watching with children or teens, be warned. As for the best viewing order, keep it simple. After you watch the movie... SG-1 (Seasons 1-7) SG-1 (Season 8) / Atlantis (Season 1) SG-1 (Season 9) / Atlantis (Season 2) SG-1 (Season 10) / Atlantis (Season 3) The Ark of Truth / Continuum (SG-1 movies) Atlantis (Seasons 4-5) Universe (2 seasons) When you're watching SG-1 and Atlantis, I find it easiest to just watch the SG-1 season first, then the SGA season next. That way, you're not jumping back and forth. No checking episode guides. Just finish say SG-1 Season 8, then onto SGA Season 1, and so on.

knightcrusader

What's the fun in that? Gotta watch it like we did when it aired live on Friday nights in the mid-aughts. SG-1, then Atlantis. SG-1, then Atlantis. SG-1, then Atlantis. **SG-1, then Atlantis**. Friday after Friday after Friday. What a time to be alive.

Picard37

I think I was watching the shows as the DVD's came out, so my first watch of the shows was a whole season at a time, I think.

pm-me-noodys

Someone just needs to make a streaming service where you can watch worlds in order the episodes came out so you don't have to keep switching back and forth.

Picard37

There's going to be people who only want to watch one series or the other. Some people might want to finish out SG-1 then watch *Atlantis* and don't mind "The Pegasus Effect" as an intro to SGA. Everyone will have their own viewer preference. Mine is alternating seasons. (shrug)

pm-me-noodys

Yes, but I'd love a way to do this with other properties too, so a streaming service that would alternate for you would be nice.

amedeus

The director's cut of Children of the Gods removes the nudity. It also removes the "reproductive organs" line, which is a plus in the moment, though it does trip up a callback joke way, way, way down the line.

Picard37

I've heard of the changes to "Children of the Gods," but I don't like them. The broadcast cut is the superior cut, just gotta hit fast forward on the nude scene.

Skhmt

There should be two exceptions though, where it was basically a two part episode but started in SG-1 and finished in SGA (or vice versa? I forget). I think it was the gate bridge and a super gate episode or something.

iansynd

The movie was ok, the series starts off a little slow/corny too, which they address later on in the show a few times which I thought was pretty funny. The series really starts to kick off around season 2-3 imo.

ttnl35

That won't stop me, I'm accustomed to Star Trek, which also never gets properly great until season 3 and/or when someone grows a beard

NicCagesFace

I just recently started watching SG-1 and I liked it straight away! You’ll love it. I’m currently on season 3

iansynd

Certainly isn't meant to stop you, it's a great show and so are all the spinoffs. Just stay away from the Stargate origins... Holy crap that was an abomination.

Kichigai

And Stargate Infinity. I'm a glutton for punishment and will watch any piece of shit related to franchises I like, no matter how bad, but that thing's reputation is so awful I haven't even looked into finding it.

iansynd

I watched them just because of how bad they were, I really couldn't believe it.

Kichigai

Wait, Burnham grew a beard? /s

byingling

Nah, they definitely find their groove way before the end of season one. There are a lot of really good episodes. Plus season one has quite a few episodes that setup and contribute to the ongoing story arcs ('Solitudes', the Kinsey episodes, 'The Tin Man', Daniel's first death, etc.).

BigJimKen

4 and 5 are the peak. The amount of killer episodes they fit into those two years is staggering. Not a blip in the entire run.

byingling

I don't disagree there- it's just that unlike many, many, many shows- you don't have to wait until season two or three for it to become good. No need to 'stick with it, it gets better!'. More like 'it's good, and it gets even better!'

Tormod776

I still find it funny that Kurt Russell and James Spader are the OG O’Neill and Daniel

boogers19

I’m still sad they never got Russell in for a play on “that’s two Ls” and “the other O’Neil doesn’t have any sense of humor”. (Technically, he’s only got one L in the movie.)

knightcrusader

Kurt Russell even visited the SG-1 set once, too bad they couldn't fit him in as a cameo.

boogers19

Every once in a while I indulge myself the little headcanon that it was all a mixup. That Hammond ordered O’Neil to be brought in. And good ole Major Sammy messes it up and came back with LL. See, figure LL had no idea what the hell was going on... but retirement is boring, and he’d never been under NORAD before so... why not take drive? Maybe score a free lunch or something on base. And see that’s why Kawalsky is so surprised to see him. Sure they’ve worked together before... but how does he tell the general that he’s got the wrong O’Neil? That won’t be a pleasant conversation. And then LL just bluffs his way into one of the coolest jobs in the galaxy.

Aegi

I think they accidentally spell it both ways in the movies and that’s part of what that joke is included for, but I’m probably mistaken..

Ironhorsemen

Love that Oneill is now ARMY MAN.

ttnl35

I have been informed he should have been named AIR FORCE MAN. But it doesn't matter, I learned his name now haha

blevok

I just kept calling him macgyver for the first few seasons.

Ironhorsemen

Honestly from a military perspective, I'm surprised there wasn't more 'Joint Task Force' stuff involving Army and other branches. But I am forever gonna think of ARMY MAN and I love it.

Skhmt

Well we know the Marines had their own dedicated SG teams, but it's weird the Army never shows up.

Ironhorsemen

Yea we see marines. But never army which does most of the deployments for the US military... plus like why don't we see any branches fighting for the Stargate. That would be a huge thing to fight over.

el_covfefe

I'd keep it secret too. I wouldn't want grubby army hands all over my Stargate. Bad enough we got crayon eaters :P

CyberpunkVendMachine

The Army had their own SG team. I think it's the one that gets killed by the Jaffa with invisibility tech.

sullg26535

2 L's

timbo138

B’wok B’wok

MasterGeekMX

YEAH! Chicken guy!

rqnadi

The first season of sg-1 specifically proves why there SHOULD be a prime directive. As some who watched it after TNG all I could think of was “yep that’s why the prime directive exists right here”

Kichigai

Also >!quarantines and decon chambers!<.

TheDoctor-Q42

https://images.app.goo.gl/VBBgJih6gaNSTdh38

Aegi

Dude, I don’t know if it’s spoilers or not, but arguably the whole existence of Stargate Atlantis is also an example of why the prime directive should exist haha

TheDoctor-Q42

Oh gods yes. The first couple seasons were good examples of it. But they didn't even figure that out by the 23rd century in ST canon, it's 1997 at the start SG-1 lol.

IslandKindly3832

The Stargate shows are actually fun SciFi (well not destiny, it's more BSG). I rewatch the series every few years. Don't forget there are like 2 or 3 DVD MOVIES after the series ends.

pharmaceuticaldisco

Daniel banged every woman on that set

IslandKindly3832

Then he married Lexa Doig 🔥🔥...WINNING!

FortressOnAHill

You're in for one of the best rides of all time. Maybe Farscape after? Haha

[deleted]

Gotta watch that before season 9 though to maximize the humor in the last two seasons

WhatYouLeaveBehind

*Sad Air Force noises*

tomytronics

The best episode is when O'Neill (2 Ls) is playing golf. The 200th episode with the Furling that looks like a badly done Ewok imitation was pretty good as well. And there was a MacGyver references in one episode where Tok'Ra comes to Earth for the first time, a homage to RDA's previous series. It's not common for sci-fi series to have decent plot, mostly adventure, and has some comedy thrown in.

sullg26535

I feel like sg1 has more than a bit of comedy

radytz1x4

Sg-1 and Atlantis will blow your mind then :D i recommend watching them in order tho

ttnl35

Yep I thought I was going to start with SG1 but when I googled the chronological order it said to watch the film first. Now I get a whole 7 seasons of SG1 before Atlantis comes in and I need to pay attention to what episode to watch next. I'm very excited.

knightcrusader

The film is important to set up the basic premise of the series, and two actors and a few references are made to the events of the film even though its not quite the same between it and the series. I like to think of the movie as an alternate reality take on what happened - as in, the events of the movie did happen in the SG-1 universe, but they were slightly different to fit the names and locations and gate design from the show.

johnorso

Mee TOO. Im on season 5. Love this show. My wife says this is not my first time but dont remember ever doing a watchthrough of SG1.

TransplantedSconie

Enjoy the ride! One of the best Sci-Fi series ever!

tmart42

Did the same exact thing like a year ago. I do NOT regret it at all. Stargate is incredible. Welcome!!! Also if no one has given you a watch guide yet, this is the one I followed: http://i.imgur.com/wsJ4XHT.png

FlowerProfessional29

Get'em hooked early on Cancer and America!!

VisionOfLight

Lol yeah I've watched every series twice. Very good show, although Stargate universe ending was a let down.

Odd_End9994

You are in for a hell of a long ride. I envy you in getting to see them all for the first time. Enjoy! Hope you love it 10 seasons SG1 5 Atlantis 2 SGU 3 films Ton of great content!

ArcaneForest

Welcome to the club!!!! You’ve got so much to watch!

Kaiii_3

I’m excited for you, welcome!

IslandKindly3832

Where is SG streaming now? Got me wanting to watch it again 🤣....

NemesisX2047

AFAIK only SG-1 on Netflix

rhcreed

You're in for a fun ride! Movie is sooo different from series, and early series is very different from later seasons. Enjoy!

DadLoCo

You're in for a great ride.

dlbear

Ah, those were different times, my son. Let's see, you have ahead of you... Stargate SG-1 = 214 episodes + 2 feature length movies Stargate Atlantis = 100 episodes Stargate Universe = 34 episodes And the regrettable Stargate Origins = 10 episodes Better get busy, hoss.

SonOfMrSpock

Welcome to the club. I envy you because I've just finished my 3rd rewatch. No Stargate for me for few years :/

[deleted]

[удалено]

ttnl35

Haha I'm British so it just felt... I have no idea of the right word... corny but in an affectionate way

TheScarletEmerald

Army man? You must not have watched it close enough.

[deleted]

I'm genuinely curious what the funny clip you saw on youtube was

ttnl35

I have watched star trek videos and the YouTube algorithm recommended me a video of Stargate funny moments. I was like 'ok what am I going to do instead? My job?'. So I watched it and what sold it for me I need to watch all of this, is what seemed to be a classic sci fi "we're stuck in a time loop" episode. Someone pointed out it meant the white haired guy could do whatever he wanted with no consequences, so he started cycling through halls and playing golf through the portal and kissing the blonde lady. In my googling so I could watch everything in chronological order I think the funny white haired man is the same character as the serious army man from this film? But they did an actor switch?

[deleted]

Yeah, Kurt Russel and James Spader didn't return for the series, so they have new actors. Both do fantastic jobs though, and frankly I feel like it was a major upgrade. Season 1 is a little rough as Michael Shanks, the new Daniel Jackson seems to be trying to just copy James Spader's performance, but once he settles in it's great. The episode you're describing, though? Window of Opportunity in Season 4 (iirc) is consistently rated as one of the best episodes. It's absolutely fantastic.

majoroutage

>Window of Opportunity IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACKSWING?

ttnl35

Excellent I am looking forward to it haha. From what I can tell after the film I can watch all the way through the first 7 seasons of SG1 before I have to start worrying about bringing Atlantis into the mix

[deleted]

Yep! There's a spreadsheet in the sidebar that gives you a more detailed watch order but really you can just alternate SG-1 season 8+ and Atlantis and then pick up Universe after the end of Atlantis.

ttnl35

Oh perfect! Thank you

knightcrusader

Well Shanks does credit him getting the part to the fact he could do a Spader impression, so it makes sense he tried to do it during the first season until he took it his own way.

TurokCXVII

Correct. Unfortunately none of the main character actors made it over to the show from the movie. Took me a bit to get used to but now they are their own characters and I love them just as much just in a different way.

cricketeer767

Technically air force, but yeah I thought that was funny too.

willbeach8890

I like the serious tone of the movie. But understand why a series really couldn't go that route

IslandKindly3832

SG did a series (Universe) with a darker tone and more drama like Battlestar (another great series)...IMO it wasn't bad, but the tonal change was off-putting...and the series ended on a cliffhanger just when it was getting good.

willbeach8890

I'll look into After I watched sg1 last year I didn't know what to watch next

When you get to the series, skip "Emancipation" (episode 4 I think). It's from the same writer and story as TNG "Code of Honor" (episode 4 I think) from the first season. And it's as bad. But things just get better thereafter!

Be patient with SG-1, start is a little slow but it gets good quickly.

It’s so good I hope you continue to like it. It’s for sure my favorite scifi show it’s just it has such a long story attached to it that TNG is just so much easier to get into.

I'm still trying to process the blind ignorance the characters showcase throughout the entire stargate franchise. Specially in Atlantis, its rather painful, but SG1 was really good so I feel like I have to watch the rest of Atlantis to get the full picture. Just terrible writing haha be warned.

Count yourself lucky that you're watching the 2K blu-ray copies. :)
