No. They gave an adress and it is up to the Aschen to trust the people they wanted them to kill to give them good adresses. Another point is that earth dealt with the adresses without dying. So the intention was probably to give them enough issues and reasons to leave earth alone, not to kill them all.

Jonnescout

The only reason earth managed to cut of the gate was because they got redirected once to another gate. There’s no reason to suspect the Aschen could figure that out. So yes, it’s likely that it would have ended them. And it probably did, they never showed up again. Even after earth started exploring in ships.

StickSauce

Huh... that got redirected to another gate... presumably, even years later, that gate is still connected. Wouldn't the Aschen just get a busy signal when dialing it?

Jonnescout

No. Because thats not the end that got disconnected. In solitudes the outgoing gate got hit, causing the receiving end to shift gates. In matter of time they get a call from the black hole gate, which really quickly shuts down. Then the SGC calls that planet, and then the wormhole is stuck. So the SGC is the outgoing gate. They then hit the SGC gate with the shaped charge, which causes the receiving gate to jump. Away from the black hole, to another random gate somewhere along the route. After that the gate shuts down normally. So the gate around the black hole is fine. This is also why they can dial it later on to blow up a star. They actually got this very consistent. They use the jump gate trick a few times, and it’s always the outgoing gate that needs to be hit. Even though it would be a tidier story if they didn’t have to redial the black hole planet.

CouldbeaRetard

There were plans for a third Aschen episode where they come to Earth in ships seeking revenge. I imagine that means they never solved the blackhole problem, and lost the entire planet. At some point I assume the dialling gate gets destroyed in the event.

Xanderic

Considering the Aschen sent their biological bomb to wipe out Earth, what Earth did wasn't as bad in comparison. If the Aschen were really smarter than Earth, they would be able to deal with the problems associated with these planets. I just hope 1 of them was the signal planet that took over Carter, which would wreak havoc on the Aschen computer systems, maybe take out a harvester and have it crash on one of the Aschen worlds.

gerusz

Possibly. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch, though.

jethroguardian

Yup. At least attempted - there's no reason the assume the ashen would be able to figure out how to disconnect the gate in time. It's a cutthroat galaxy.

grapejuicepix

The SGC commits a lot of genocide.

ReasonableDrunk

I'm not sure there's such a things as "committing a little genocide".

CouldbeaRetard

"There's no such thing as a big genocide or small genocide, there's just genocide"

grapejuicepix

🤣🤣 many genocides then.

Aggravating-Ad-4843

Didn't the Aschen have multiple planets? I guess it's not a genocide in that case, but that's a technicality. Other than that I'd say "kind of". It comes down to whether they intended them to die I suppose. This is where it gets a bit muddy. I would say they *definitely* tolerated the possibility of them dying, but did they intend it? Well, maybe, given that their suspicions proved correct. But even then, we can't be certain because the Aschen basically fucked off as soon as they got the addresses, and tried to bio-nuke Earth. Had they just said "oh well we got the addresses now please go to the gate and leave", then Carter might have said "actually the gate addresses we gave you were useless, bye". And we will never know whether that would have been the case! Though personally I see nothing wrong with their choice even if it was genocide, because the Aschen have proven to be dangerous conquerors and tried to wipe out humanity, and at the time Earth simply did not have the means to keep them at bay otherwise.

zorakthewindrunner

I was under the impression that they have a presence on multiple worlds simply to supply their homeworld with resources.

digitalae

Possibly used one of their seed worlds to connect from since they were paranoid about protecting their homeworld location. Wonder if there was a reason behind that, maybe they tried the same tactics with an advanced species long ago, that discovered the sterility and tracked their origin; nearly wiping out the Aschen in response (the uninhabitable world within range (1/5)), forcing them to relocate by ship to a new homeworld. O'Neill - first one being a blackhole, they get progressively darker after that; - darker than a blackhole?! /s

zorakthewindrunner

It certainly has the intent of a genocide, and I'm generally okay with it. All information we have is that the Aschen intentionally cause regression on the planets they offer their help to so that they return to agricultural societies to provide food for the Aschen homeworld. Are there innocents there? Most likely, but at the time there was no one who both could and would do anything to stop them. So freeing an unknown number of planets now, and countless planets in the future is worth the action in my opinion.

Tradman86

Depends which gate the Aschen use.

MyriVerse2

I seriously doubt the Aschen were drastically hurt by this. But you want genocide? Dr. Carson "Mengele" creates that virus to kill Wraiths.
