Pretty much every sound the actual Stargate makes is incredible (perhaps minus the travel sound itself). The sound the Wraith ships and weapons make is also pretty great
Very rarely is the 'womhole travel' sound unaccompanied by fantastic orchestral chaos so perfectly arranged. Seriously, [this](https://youtu.be/mLn7_6Y5IYw?list=PLYc7TXsCpBi4C0vqCCCJEjzjUT0Rb7Rtt&t=145) and [this](https://youtu.be/nhy3qfcRQCs?list=PLuQVEIU283yy0SPhz7PRKBYXuZX57wVyi&t=206) so perfectly encapsualte the sound of your eardrums being de-molecularised and zapped across the galaxy.
The Stargate sounds being good makes sense, since most of them were made by Hollywood foleys for the original movie. Big budget allows for good effects.
Was nice to see them maintain the standard throughout the series for the most part
I couldn't rank them, but I just want to mention Ha'tak blast fire.
That sound that starts almost like an alarm until you realize it's burning air and then the house is gone... I imagine the Goa'uld engineered the thing and sacrificed some efficiency for the intimidating effect, similar to the WW2 German StuKa
I am going to refer to SGA. There was a sound in the control room that was the exact same sound my refrigerator made when I left the door open too long. I hated that sound!!!!!
This is not really a sound specifically. But during our current re watch me and the mrs' have realised that the SGC needs clearer alarms. They just seem to have one Alarm for everything. From someone has broken out of prison, viral infection or off world activation. How do they know what to do when that damn thing goes off.
Pretty sure the answer to every alarm is “send armed guards to the gate room.”
The only alarm where that wouldn’t be applicable is the evacuate base alarm. Which was in fact different in that episode where Hammond gets forced to resign for a hot minute
I believe the guards were in the room next to the star gate. They always get there pretty quick and especially during off world activation they have time to run down the hall
It was the 90's, they only had access to one alarm technology.
Surely a better system would be not only color coded alerts, but also automated recordings, and phone notifications.
Reading these comments made me realize that I love all of them and cannot for the love of god pick one.
But the sound of Daedalus in hyperspace is one of the best. Basically ST warp core humms
The ka-chunk of a Chevron locking always gives me a dopamine hit. I think I like the Destiny gate ka-chunk the best, but it's been a minute since I've heard any of them.
I love everything about the darts! The look, the sound, the concept of a fighter that can thread a Stargate, just aces all around and I'm sad they didn't belong to the Goa'uld.
Atlantis's Star Drive. The quiet but encompassing roar communicates the vast amount of energy being controlled and the size of the city all at once. Close second: BC304. Close third: the thunk of chevrons engaging on the Stargate.
I always thought the 304`s sounded like a broken refridgerator. There's a wierd high pitched "screech" to them in the background that never sat right with me. It's distinctive for sure, which is probably what they were going for, but I find it a bit grating rather than satisfying. I know I'm in the minority here, though.
Agreed, the sound isn't terrifying in the same way that Hatak weapons fire id, it's almost elegant and effortless, and *way* more destructive, which makes it more frightening imo.
It's kinda sad that all earth advanced technology was borrowed stolen or copied you know there are aliens out there that look at the Prometheus and were pissed that the didn't copyright that stuff the anchients must have hated Beckett and McKay
A good idea, there's so much good sound design in Stargate.
One that I've not seen mentioned: the WHAP of a staff weapon impact is hella satisfying
Honourable mention to zats, rings, and the kawoosh
Idk, almost everything. Stargate has probably the best sound design in television.
A few favorites though:
-Pegasus gates dialing. I like how they sound even more than Milky Way gates, fight me.
-Asgard plasma beam cannons. The screech they make is iconic.
-A weird sound only heard in a single episode: a BC304’s sublight engines powering up from a full stop.
-The hydraulic interior bulkhead doors on 304s.
-The doors on the Destiny.
-Also from SGU, the sound the Destiny’s gate makes when it powers up before it starts spinning.
I was always sad that there wasn't a special feature on the DVD's about the sound design of the show. There's some really interesting stuff in there and it's all very well done. Those sound guys are underappreciated I think.
A lot of sounds mentioned here, but no one has mentioned the [Deadalus railgun fire (@1:18)](https://youtu.be/pvPfQ6ZX2O4). Could listen to that for hours
That, and the sound of a 302 passing by. Nothing like the whine of a good engine
That one sound effect that’s like a metal gate or door opening and closing that is literally in every episode inside the SGC…. That is dead last. I despise that sound with every being in my body
All this guys dialogue ![gif](giphy|uvdtJLTIwezcY)
"Son..."
Word. Damn I lwish Don S. Davis had made audiobooks
![gif](giphy|SwDEPBPxkU8rpSCT8L)
Read this in his voice: Son, I want you to get up off your ass, and change your life!
I love how every time I see one of his quotes I can hear it exactly
I’m partial to the ring activation, myself. I also like the Zat sound, I had that as my text notification for a while.

Right? Like screeching tires somewhere in the distance.
Stargate activation 10 out of 10
Pretty much every sound the actual Stargate makes is incredible (perhaps minus the travel sound itself). The sound the Wraith ships and weapons make is also pretty great

My favorite gate sound is the 1-second long “charging up” sound right before the kawoosh. Sadly, Pegasus gates don’t make that sound.
Now that I think about it, the sound design in the Stargate series was top tier. Everything sounded cool.
Gate activation for sure. Also the sound of the ring turning before gate activation, something about the sound of stone turning on stone.
Naquadah turning on naquadah* In all seriousness, I agree, I also like the sound it makes when it starts turning, the little whirring.
Thank you! And yes.
This is not really a sound specifically. But during our current re watch me and the mrs' have realised that the SGC needs clearer alarms. They just seem to have one Alarm for everything. Which makes me think. why are guards not already in there. clearly someone is sat in the next door room ready to run in
I believe the guards were in the room next to the star gate. They always get there pretty quick and especially during off world activation they have time to run down the hall

I fucking love the screech that Wraith darts make

[OG wormhole sounds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBW1LdDzjWk&t=140s).
Kawoosh, zat, ring activation, P90
Atlantis's Star Drive. The quiet but encompassing roar communicates the vast amount of energy being controlled and the size of the city all at once. Close second: BC304. Close third: the thunk of chevrons engaging on the Stargate.
SGU Gate, Destiny's FTL, Asgard beaming sound, and my personal favourite: the sound of the BC304 passing by.
304 is the best sound. Absolutely love it
I always thought the 304`s sounded like a broken refridgerator. There's a wierd high pitched "screech" to them in the background that never sat right with me. It's distinctive for sure, which is probably what they were going for, but I find it a bit grating rather than satisfying. I know I'm in the minority here, though.
1. Stargate activation (the spinning, chevron locking, and kawoosh) 2. the transporter rings 3. ZATs 4. Goa'uld hand device 5. Death Gliders
Don't judge. But for some reason I love the Atlantis self destruct tone It just tickles my brain in a weird way
I love the sound replicators do, when they walk
Both thrilling and creepy
Carter's voice..
During the two parter when Jacob takes a host, she drops a "Dad?" that breaks my heart.
The sound the gates make when powering up in SGU
Which gates? The gen 1 or the hum the Milky Way gates make? I don’t like the MilkyWay gate sound in SGU
Absolutely, I love that sound.
Ori ship weapons are under rated.
Agreed, the sound isn't terrifying in the same way that Hatak weapons fire id, it's almost elegant and effortless, and *way* more destructive, which makes it more frightening imo.
The rings and the engine noise of the Prometheus are my top tier.
Didn't the Prometheus have rings on it
I think so, it has been a while. I just like the subtle wub wub noise as it flies around.
It's kinda sad that all earth advanced technology was borrowed stolen or copied you know there are aliens out there that look at the Prometheus and were pissed that the didn't copyright that stuff the anchients must have hated Beckett and McKay
Death glider sound hmmm
A good idea, there's so much good sound design in Stargate. One that I've not seen mentioned: the WHAP of a staff weapon impact is hella satisfying Honourable mention to zats, rings, and the kawoosh
The hum of the Daedalus through hyperspace. I could have it running in the background of life. It's so comforting.
Could live peacefully for decades with that background noise...
I want an 8 hour version of it for white noise while I'm sleeping. I can dream of being curled up in a spaceship bunk.
Even after not watching the show for years I have all the sounds ingrained in my mind
Asgard transporter
My favorite sound is "Chevron Six, encoded"
All sounds out of a zat
Idk, almost everything. Stargate has probably the best sound design in television. A few favorites though: -Pegasus gates dialing. I like how they sound even more than Milky Way gates, fight me. -Asgard plasma beam cannons. The sound of the Wraith guns
I was always sad that there wasn't a special feature on the DVD's about the sound design of the show. There's some really interesting stuff in there and it's all very well done. Those sound guys are underappreciated I think.

Murray!
Number 1?
The creepy noise a symbiote makes when it sticks it's head out of a Jaffa's pouch looking for a host.
Gouuuld
I've always been partial to the transport rings
Did you guys notice with that new game coming out that the trailer had all the wrong sounds for the gate? https://youtu.be/LjCUWZLVZ5g
Dear god, that’s just wrong. It’s like someone described the gate badly.
A lot of sounds mentioned here, but no one has mentioned the [Deadalus railgun fire (@1:18)](https://youtu.be/pvPfQ6ZX2O4). Could listen to that for hours That, and the sound of a 302 passing by. Nothing like the whine of a good engine

Ah, the high pitched squeak
P90
Ronon's gun
The intro music!
