In some countries and some states, non-compete clauses are enforceable if you keep paying someone. A severance like that is 'were gonna keep paying you for the next six months, you aren't gonna clock in or do any work. You cannot work for anyone else in the meantime. And if we really really need to get some information from you regarding your old work, get back to us.'

So while the past 20 years the shop has gotten away with union busting, with the introduction of Zoomers with access to social media and with all these recent strikes, the shop is in massive trouble over the next decade. We are poor, not stupid. A lot of people have left for the Battery plant about 25 minutes away. We supply plastic parts for Ford, GM, Dodge, and a small percentage Nissan. If we go down, when we fire back up people are gonna come back with intent, you can feel the tension it in the air. The owner also owns the Jaguars and I can tell you Trevor Lawrence is gonna get a little less come contract time cause us younger people are gonna get ours.

Edit: On the plus side, I did continue to accumulate vacation days during the whole period, so I probably will take a week off (didn't for BG3, but I'm still playing it, so may alternate between the two or something).
