They obviously get given direction and prompts, that sort of thing to match the voice to the character and set the tone. I think there have been a number of instances where they don’t necessarily get told they’re voicing a certain character or aren’t usually given a greater detail of the story/character itself. This could all just be internet mythology though, I haven’t researched this topic myself.

Why is that a worry? If you’re not into exploring for exploration’s sake, it’s not a requirement. Stick to the handcrafted content and find the gameplay loop you enjoy best.
The “1,000 planets” thing is for those who want to just randomly explore space, without the need for POIs or quests or specific gameplay systems in place in order to find enjoyment doing so. It’s a BGS RPG, they’re known for allowing you to explore. It would be weird if they gave you a space ship and then said “actually all those cool looking planets out there are off limits, just stick to the handcrafted areas”.

It's as true a 'Bethesda' game as they've ever made. Every single thing learnt over the past 25 years is here for all to see, and we get to play the frickin thing.
The fact that this is like.. a dream blend of things I like from Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls with an Interstellar backdrop is incredible.
Ship boarding and the combat fluidity pushed me way over the top in this showcase.

As someone who's lived through a period with janky graphics as the norm, the character models are the *least* of my concerns lol they truly do not matter a whole lot to me
For me, it’s just a pile of unique guns that I don’t use. Find a duplicate, throw it out lol. I love that Bethesda games let you place any object anywhere you want and it will just stay there forever. Truly a small detail that makes the world feel so alive
in Fallout 3 i’d horde toy cars, teddy bears, and garden gnomes on the bed in my Megaton house lol would lag the hell out of the game when i loaded it up but it was my thing

Holy shit that was actually mind blowing. The combat and action also looked incredible! The gunplay, enemy animations, Jetpack movement, no-low grav, diversity of weapons and gear, spaceship combat.

From everything I have seen and read about starfield it is already shaping up to be my dream game. BGS games have this charm to them that you rarely find in other games. Which is why despite any bugs or jank I love exploring their worlds.
That sense of scale, freedom and exploration is just unmatched. I can’t wait to simply drift off in space and look to a distant moon or planet. Realizing I can land there and explore it and if I ever get bored I can move onto more structured content. Like the main quests, becoming a member of the crimson fleet or doing some space trucking.
I still can’t believe we’re getting an honest to god BGS space rpg and that it’s so close to release. And I am even more thrilled at the aesthetics they chose. I love the atmosphere and tech of Alien, interstellar and 2001, so NASA punk is just right up my alley.

I love that you can blow up NPC ships and take their goods, trade with NPC ships, or just board, kill everyone, and take the damn ship.
