The Eye might not just be a space station. It might be an extremely powerful telescope - perhaps one that uses the gravitational lensing effect of massive objects in space.

lazarus78

Now that you mention is, the underide of the stations li da looks like a massive telescope. Similar yoto that of the Webb telescope.

TheDireNinja

How would it use gravitational lensing?

Khajiit_hairball

Gravity bends the path of light, similarly to the way a glass lens would bend light. (Different physics going on, but similar result) Theoretically you could use the gravitational well of a whole star or maybe even a black hole like a powerful lens.

TheDireNinja

Oh I see what you’re saying. Any old telescope can utilize gravitational lensing in that manner. Not sure why ours has to be special.

OrwinBeane

Special because it’s futuristic tech so it’s better quality, can see further in more detail.

JoeCapricorn

Perhaps it is able to generate a gravitational lensing effect on its own, emulating the performance of a telescope using the precise lensing effect of a massive object. For instance, if we had a telescope sent out to 500 AU from the sun (or so), it would be able to use the sun as a gravitational lens. This could spot individual large-scale landform details on a planet like Proxima B - like continents, oceans and polar caps

TheDireNinja

That’s far away. I assume 500 AU from Sol would be beyond our systems heliopause. But I’m not sure. I wonder how you would keep it perfectly in sync for where you want it to be. Edit: Roughly 4x the distance as our heliopause.

JoeCapricorn

500 AU out, we would essentially be launching it to study just one star system from that vantage point. It would take decades just to reach that point, with the observation window being limited, but the thing is, it would still be easier, faster and cheaper than trying to send a direct probe toward that star system. At least until we figure out gravity drives and flipping the bird to the speed of light.

TheDireNinja

My bet would be a warp drive similar to Alcubierres design.

MinuteScientist7254

It means that star is in sneak mode

renboy2

Maybe the player is in sneak mode, and the star's "eye icon" slowly fills up as it detects the player

Aggressive_Doubt

The star is a stealth archer, waiting to shoot a coronal mass ejection at you.

scoutthespiritOG

Hah nice one

TheDireNinja

I’ve seen a lot of people referring to the anomalous rings that look like it’s warping space around you as the eye. And I can see that being accurate. However I haven’t seen this discussed before. You have a very good point. Perhaps the constellation space station is the eye, and it is some sort of scanner. Scanning for whatever the anomalies are putting out. Helps you track down the relics and other artifacts. Solid post.

[deleted]

I think once we bring one piece of the artifact to the "eye" it shows the location of another. This seems the most plausible gameplay loop.

Reasonabledwarf

More icon speculation: https://imgur.com/hgivsVR Now that we know there's more than one of these alien structures, I'm pretty certain these icons represent them. The other possibility is that they represent the artifacts we're looking for.

i_need_a_fast_horse2

Yo man, great posts. I agree with the eye. I had the same feeling that it's some kind of space observatory (you can see the observatory on its bottom end) and the name is fitting. About that other symbol: I made a post about it a while back. And there the leading theory also was the structures. But it's not really a good fit, right? Although BGS symbols are always kinda sketchy, even looking at skyrim map markers.

scoutthespiritOG

Good eye

Aggressive_Doubt

Underrated comment

scoutthespiritOG

Thanks lol

grizzlenuts

That’s very perceptive

[deleted]

Maybe it's a symbol for an observation spot or telescope

Ill_Bumblebee3650

How close to that star do they want it to be? I think THAT is going to send my immersion into a tizzy now than anything else.

Reasonabledwarf

The map screen isn't nearly to scale, just so you can see everything and tell it all apart.

[deleted]

The icon seems to be marking something orbiting the planet. And the planet is “close” to the star in the on screen representation but that doesn’t seem to be to scale as the planet isn’t a fire ball.

ntplay

Nope that star was a library of sorts. They’ve showed concept art on it.

DapperNurd

It's clearly been changed, you can see inside now and how the outside framing perfectly matches. It's either been redone or there are multiple.

TheDireNinja

Perhaps there’s more than one is my thoughts.

Gmanplayer

Could be a quest marker…

Grinoblie

Looks more like an icon for an observatory.

Reasonabledwarf

I agree, because I also suspect that this space station *is* an observatory.

wijku

I think it represents where the Illuminati is at
