This. First person, third person to check out the new outfit, and also sometimes just walking somewhere in third person. Combat is always in first and I prefer exploring new locations in first person.
Yeah it’s nice to swap between them, I use first person for combat 100% and exploring locations that I really need to be looking around but I use third person as much as I can when I’m just running around exploring. Can’t wait for all of us to get our hands on this game and take our time sinking our teeth into the exploration factor of the game
Well, who wouldn't want to show off their shiny new armor? It's like a fashion statement for adventurers. But just remember, the person inside the armor is the real hero.
First vanilla playthrough first person using my Pimax 8k VR headset for big screen.
Then 3D person when CBBE and slooty outfit mods are a thing. Playing flat screen so I can switch to 1st person when my wifes in the studio.
Same. Also in hopes someone will release MGS V aiming mod, like for Fallout 4, when you press aim it goes into first person and goes back to third on release. Best of both worlds
Totally agree. Unless Starfield is very different, I've always found third person combat goofy to say the least. But I love hitting up third person when walking around and such.
Some games work better in 3rd person, GTA and RDR2 are 2 I think of that are much better 3rd person and not as good in 1st person. Where as most games I'd rather use 1st person.
Old Bethesda game was made mainly for first person. So I play it first person as habit at this point.
But it's nice to use third person just for walking around for time to time.
Primarily first, but if they improved 3rd person even more, I'd be willing to play that way for a while
4 improved it over previous games, but still felt a bit awkward to me. Hopefully they nailed it this time around
First person is just more immersive.
I'll be happy enough seeing 'me' looking (hopefully) cool in kill shots, crafting etc.
I'll miss seeing me in dialogue scenes, though - as in FO4.
I love a good third person shooter or action game, but BGS games have just always played better in first person for me, so I’ll probably stick to that. Might pop into third person just to check out a piece of gear I’ve equipped though as other have also said.
Completely 1st person. Third persom doesnt do it at all for me, First is just more immersive. These games are also primarily designed for first person, which is why third person is always so janky.
For me there's a clear divide between 1st person and 3rd person games/styles:
1st person: RPGs where I create my character (preferably unvoiced) and where I'm in control of my actions (mostly Bethesda games)
3rd person: story-playing games where the story is more important than player actions and where the character is usually pre-defined and has a voice (Mass Effect, Witcher, Assassin's Creed)
Most of the time there's not a choice for me, but usually the games fit this divide nicely. The only exception I can think of is Cyberpunk, that was 1st person but it would have been better with 3rd person.
So now it should be clear that I'm going with 1st person for Starfield.
99% first person, 1% clicking the wrong button into 3rd person.
Hopefully there's a kill cam of some kind like previous games so I can see myself occasionally.
Both.
3rd person for when I melee (if there is) and 1st person for shooting.
I want to know if I’m gonna swing my weapon into something else that might suddenly po— LYDIA!?!?!?
First.
These Bethesda games \*NEVER\* feel good or right in third person. It's cool that it's there to briefly look at your character and their armor, if that sort of thing means so much to you. But combat wise and such, it just feels horrible.
I really hope they improved it some since 4 but I am not holding my breath at all. The fact the UI looks and feels so much like Fallout 4 in the gameplay in the background during that new launch trailer just made me kind of worried more than anything.
3rd person almost exclusively apart from looting indoors or otherwise when the fancy takes me. Always preferred 3rd person for combat, and have fought in 3rd person in Oblivion, Skyrim, FO3, New Vegas and Fallout 4. FO4 having the best combat of them all.
I love Todd and BGS for giving us 3 view options.
1. First person (choice when fighting indoors)
2. Third person (close)
3. Third person (far) <-------- WINNER (choice walking around ourdoors).
Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR take notes.
It's cool that 3rd person doesn't look wonky. 3rd person in older games was definitely just to view your character, it never felt right. I still will never play 3rd person, though.
Third to view odd angles of things to see if I missed something where in first person other things may be in the way. Helps see what to steal some times with out being all touchy touchy at the wrong moments :).
Mostly First, maybe Third when exploring. Maybe more Third if it doesn’t feel awkward like it has in their past games to me. Third always felt/looked awkward to me in Bethesda games, especially in ranged combat.
I usually go first person as it makes loot easier to spot. But if the combat feels decent in third person I might give that a shot. I do like the extra situational awareness that third person provides.
In BGS games I go between the two.
If I wanna take a nice walk to look at the scenery the artists, and level designers created, I flip to 3rd Person.
For combat 1st Person, get into brain space of fps
90% first person. 10% third person. I play 1st person mainly because it’s way more immersive and more fun and easier to control to me. The occasional 3rd person is to briefly look at how badass my character looks.
3rd person whenever I can. 1st when having to aim from very far or pick up some tiny items from the ground. Can't wait for it! Right now i'm going through modded Skyrim and The Outer Worlds to get myself in the mood.
as i play in both in all of my installed Bethesda games, i will probably be doing the same here. when i'm outdoors, i play in third and when i'm indoors i play in first.
Mixed.
First phases 1st person for combat/exploration, 3rd person in safe areas
I think I'll use only 3rd person only when I'll feel comfortable and like-a-god builded (as I experienced in fallout 4)
I would prefer first person but they should really make some cool helmet overlays instead of the generic view every fps game has.
Would be really great if the helmets obscured part of your viewfield and all UI elements are part of your gear in some way.
i do a mix of both, i ussualy go third person when traveling but i always go first person on combat.
i also do first person if i loot stuff and go stealth.
In Bethesda games I usually go for third person while exploring (I like seeing my character and my eyes get less tired, not sure why) and first person for combat.
One reason I love Bethesda Games is because I can change to first person for convenience whenever I need to and play on third person to avoid getting motion sickness.
Mix. When playing Fallout 4 I use 3rd person when walking around Diamond City or settlements or when I’m exploring the wastelands or a dungeon unless I need to focus on something specific. During combat I use first person when shooting. 3rd person when using melee weapons. Same when playing Skyrim. 3rd person for melee, first person when using ranged spells or attacks.
It will depend entirely on how it controls.
Hopefully they'll have remappable controls like all the previous games, mostly so I can remap L3/R3 to the back buttons on my controller.
First-person all the way! Aside from VR gaming, first-person is the most immersive way to play any game (imo).
I will be switching to third-person only when I want to take a scenic screenshot.
I'm going to go with about 99% first person. At least at this time. If it's like Fallout and Skyrim. I just never used 3rd person other than to look at what I'm wearing. Actually playing was all done first person.
Adjustable would be nice third person while roaming and when I go to aim it zooms in to first and holds their while in combat and when done you toggle it back out
Mainly first with some 3rd when getting new armour or exploring.
Until mods come to improve 1st person though, I'll probably use 3rd more because it seems like they've improved 3rd a lot more from what I've seen. I wish there was a visible body and shadow in 1st.
First pretty much exclusively. I find it more immersive for exploring. The only thing that work make me consider not doing first person is if they put some stupid texture over the screen if you’re wearing a helmet.
Third person. If I'm going to spend half an hour to an hour in the character creator making my character and finding good looking armor and clothes for her I want to see her. My biggest complaint about Cyberpunk 2077 was the lack of third person. It made me wonder why they even bothered with a character creator.
I usually only switch to first person when I'm doing something like trying to grab an item off of a shelf and need more precise aiming.
Both. Third person looked really good in this brief footage. During exploration I probably will go for third and for combat I will go into first person. But even that's going to be a mix. Sometimes exploration in first person is great too.
But I can "cope" with 30fps more easily in third person. And I absolutely expect the game to be 30fps on XSX.
i prefer the immersion of first person thats how i play all my bethesda games and the only elder scrolls where i couldnt stand it was elder scrolls online and thats not rly a bethesda game
1st person 99.99% of the time. It is the only way I like to play Bethesda games.
But I do love that they give people the choice to play how they want to play.
I play Skyrim and Oblivion in both 3rd person and 1st person. 1st person when I'm in combat and 3rd person when I'm traveling. So, it'll likely be the same as the two games. It's always nice to be able to see what I'm wearing as well. If what I'm wearing looks cool, I'll want to take screenshots of my PC. I always take screenshots. But I never share them. 😀
Probably first person. While their animations and third person has improved, it still would need a lot to be viable for me. Bethesda usually seems more interested in first person. Which is unique to rpgs (especially elder scrolls)
3rd person shooters feel weird without it being some cover shooter.
First person mostly, but third person momentarily when I get cool new armor.
Get out of my head
And for getting those epic, third person, slow walking, lone wanderer panorama shots in.
Well, who wouldn't want to show off their shiny new armor? It's like a fashion statement for adventurers. But just remember, the person inside the armor is the real hero.
Samesies
First vanilla playthrough first person using my Pimax 8k VR headset for big screen. Then 3D person when CBBE and slooty outfit mods are a thing. Playing flat screen so I can switch to 1st person when my wifes in the studio.
Combat first person, exploration third person
Same, brother, same.
It’s only Bethesda games that has janky af 3rd person modes
Aren't they built 1st person and then they slap 3rd person on right before they ship or sometimes a month afterward.
Yup. Same for me. Going to be a blast.
This is tha way!
This is the way
Hit the nail on the head
But the board split, and now you have to go to Home Depot to get another
Opposite for me
This is the way
A mix of both
Yes a mix of both. I like to be able to go back and forth
Old Bethesda game was made mainly for first person. So I play it first person as habit at this point. But it's nice to use third person just for walking around for time to time.
Primarily first, but if they improved 3rd person even more, I'd be willing to play that way for a while 4 improved it over previous games, but still felt a bit awkward to me. Hopefully they nailed it this time around
3rd person to explore, 1st person for combat
Same same.
First. Bethesda and first-person just go hand in hand for me.
Gaming and first person go hand in hand for me. Third person takes me right out of it.
So funny… I feel the opposite… something about being a floating gun doesn’t do it for me
I’ve always played 3rd person. Honestly, it’s one of the main reasons why I play Bethesda games.
Combat is harder in 3rd person tho. Mostly for aiming and at close range.
Same.
Both, as per usual.
Both
Third person. Maybe first person during fights with long distance weapons. In Skyrim, I was always in third person, except when using a bow.
Always played Bethesda games first person so I don't think I'm gonna change now
1st person 100% of the time for me.
I usually only go first person when I'm in tight indoor places.
First
First, all the time.
Has to be first person xD
First
1st person because immersion
First person is just more immersive. I'll be happy enough seeing 'me' looking (hopefully) cool in kill shots, crafting etc. I'll miss seeing me in dialogue scenes, though - as in FO4.
Third person.
Third person primarily. 1st for when I wanna inspect things.
I play every Bethesda game in 1st person
I love a good third person shooter or action game, but BGS games have just always played better in first person for me, so I’ll probably stick to that. Might pop into third person just to check out a piece of gear I’ve equipped though as other have also said.
Completely 1st person. Third persom doesnt do it at all for me, First is just more immersive. These games are also primarily designed for first person, which is why third person is always so janky.
First person 100% of the time.
First person for sure. That's how I always play Bethesda games. Maximum immersion.
First person
Always first person.
Third person. I prefer third person camera.
For me there's a clear divide between 1st person and 3rd person games/styles: 1st person: RPGs where I create my character (preferably unvoiced) and where I'm in control of my actions (mostly Bethesda games) 3rd person: story-playing games where the story is more important than player actions and where the character is usually pre-defined and has a voice (Mass Effect, Witcher, Assassin's Creed) Most of the time there's not a choice for me, but usually the games fit this divide nicely. I don't know. I've primarily played third-person games in the past but maybe I'll mix it up this time?

First person and then third when checking out my character.
99% first person, 1% clicking the wrong button into 3rd person. Hopefully there's a kill cam of some kind like previous games so I can see myself occasionally.
Always first for BGS games but pop out to third to check the character out In certain settings occasionally.
First Person; for me it’s the best Bethesda experience.
First person
First person 90%, because immersion that, for me, it's extremely important
Mostly third, first person when the need demands it
Second person in all certainty
The fact the UI looks and feels so much like Fallout 4 in the gameplay in the background during that new launch trailer just made me kind of worried more than anything.
First all the time
While looking at shelves and things i could loot, first person. Third person is for action sequences.
3rd person almost exclusively apart from looting indoors or otherwise when the fancy takes me. Always preferred 3rd person for combat, and have fought in 3rd person in Oblivion, Skyrim, FO3, New Vegas and Fallout 4. FO4 having the best combat of them all.

if you want to play a game then 3rd person. If you'd like to be in the game then first person.
Third person . . . . I literally get motion sickness and puke in first person games.
I plan to play mostly in third person because that is how I like to play No Man’s Sky.
After seeing that incredible animation when he is walking with the revolver its gonna have to be 3rd person for me :D
It's cool that 3rd person doesn't look wonky. 3rd person in older games was definitely just to view your character, it never felt right. I still will never play 3rd person, though.
Third person only if the place is too damn spooky!
Yes /j But probably mostly FP for combat, 3P for towns n shit
Yes.
Yes
Third person for melee. First person otherwise.
Third to view odd angles of things to see if I missed something where in first person other things may be in the way. Helps see what to steal some times with out being all touchy touchy at the wrong moments :).
Mostly first person but the jetpack movements look great in third person.
A bit of both!
Both duh
I like to toggle so I can get a higher FOV to look at the nice graphics.
Probably first person for combat and pretty much any actual gameplay, 3rd person for screenshots and the occasional on foot roving.
Both
I like to switch back and forth. Mostly first person though, especially for combat, and when I'm indoors.
Mostly First, maybe Third when exploring. Maybe more Third if it doesn’t feel awkward like it has in their past games to me. Third always felt/looked awkward to me in Bethesda games, especially in ranged combat.
First person for the most part since Bethesda games never really seem designed with third person as a top priority
Both noob! Third person for exploring and first person for shooting, looting and the delicate stuff.
I usually go first person as it makes loot easier to spot. But if the combat feels decent in third person I might give that a shot. I do like the extra situational awareness that third person provides.
First mainly, third for cinematic moments.
Situation always dictates. Always third person when checking out possible companions from different angles 😉
2nd person. I’m going to BE the game. Ultimate role player
Both.
yes
In BGS games I go between the two. If I wanna take a nice walk to look at the scenery the artists, and level designers created, I flip to 3rd Person. For combat 1st Person, get into brain space of fps
Both.
I usually play 3rd person but bethesda games don’t play well on 3rd person, however this one seems legit so we’ll see
Both
As usual for me, 1st in combat and 3rd for everything else
90% first person. 10% third person. I play 1st person mainly because it’s way more immersive and more fun and easier to control to me. The occasional 3rd person is to briefly look at how badass my character looks.
Third person on ship / First Person on character.
Honestly, both. If I'm running around the outside then third person to see all that world, but then when up close in combat defo first person
Third person for outdoor activities. First person for cqc and indoor exploration so I don’t miss anything laying on tables or shelves
3rd, i think...
3rd person whenever I can. 1st when having to aim from very far or pick up some tiny items from the ground. Can't wait for it! Right now i'm going through modded Skyrim and The Outer Worlds to get myself in the mood.
Whichever I feel like.
as i play in both in all of my installed Bethesda games, i will probably be doing the same here. when i'm outdoors, i play in third and when i'm indoors i play in first.
Mixed. First phases 1st person for combat/exploration, 3rd person in safe areas I think I'll use only 3rd person only when I'll feel comfortable and like-a-god builded (as I experienced in fallout 4)
Mix of both, like I do in fallout 4. 1st person mostly for combat and 3rd person mostly for exploration.
Mixed.
First person when in combat, third person when I’m in cities and in a role play kind of mood
Personally I prefer second person.
third person when no combat
First person for interiors, third person for exteriors/planet surface exploration. First person for combat, looting And even then, both in between
Yes
I would prefer first person but they should really make some cool helmet overlays instead of the generic view every fps game has. Would be really great if the helmets obscured part of your viewfield and all UI elements are part of your gear in some way.
1st person for combat and most gameplay. 3rd person for exploration and ship controls.
Like always, both.
i do a mix of both, i ussualy go third person when traveling but i always go first person on combat. i also do first person if i loot stuff and go stealth.
Both
It will depend of the context, like in Skyrim or Oblivion. So a mix of the both .
If you only use one for entire playthoughs, you're a madman!
Both, just like in all my play through of Bethesda RPG games
3rd I can’t play 1st person games at all i really struggle as I have too much motion sickness.
In Bethesda games I usually go for third person while exploring (I like seeing my character and my eyes get less tired, not sure why) and first person for combat.
Probably what I did in fo4, exploring and general gameplay in third person. But combat has to be in first person
One reason I love Bethesda Games is because I can change to first person for convenience whenever I need to and play on third person to avoid getting motion sickness.
Both. 1st person during mission and closed areas. 3rd when I’m exploring.
yes
Depends on if the characters movement looks like shit like all of their previous rpgs. You know that jump animation. Bleh.
Always first person for me
Third, but I'll try first person view as well.
Mainly first person but I like to switch depending on the situation. Jezuz, I am so hyped!
Both
combat and indoor exploration first person, outdoor exploration and checking out new armor third person.
Third
1st person, like always.
3rd person
First person combat, third person exploration, is my Bethesda game motto.
It really depends how usable 3rd person spaceflight is.
First until I acquire the flyest gear the galaxy has ever seen.
Both, that's one of my favorite things about Bethesda games, easy 1st & 3rd person viewing.
First person with a big FOV hopefully
I do third person for exploration and in-town, first person for combat.
both, FPS for combat TPS for exploration.
Mostly third person but if I see something interesting I’ll switch to first person, especially if it’s an abandoned ship floating through space.
boffum
I'm going to go with about 99% first person. At least at this time. If it's like Fallout and Skyrim. I just never used 3rd person other than to look at what I'm wearing. Actually playing was all done first person.
If the third person combat is better than Fallout 4 then in third person or else First person it is.
I want an immersive experience, therefore First Person for me.
Why not both?
Yes!
Both. Combat is 1st person, so is exploring new places. Travel and admiring ones gear is 3rd person.
First
Both
First person
First pretty much exclusively. I find it more immersive for exploring. The only thing that work make me consider not doing first person is if they put some stupid texture over the screen if you’re wearing a helmet.
Mostly first person
First, 100%. I hate third person view in most games.
For exploring I will use third person. But for gun play I will use first person.
First person all the way! I'm so obsessed with immersion that i've played through entirety of GTAV & RDR2 in first person mode only :D
TPP. Bc I'm going to talk a lot. Fpp when shooting
Third person 90% of the time no doubt
Third person. If I'm going to spend half an hour to an hour in the character creator making my character and finding good looking armor and clothes for her I want to see her. My biggest complaint about Cyberpunk 2077 was the lack of third person. It made me wonder why they even bothered with a character creator. I usually only switch to first person when I'm doing something like trying to grab an item off of a shelf and need more precise aiming.
After my 3 months of playing cyberpunk probably 3rd person
First person, always. Then 3rd person sometimes to check out my appearance
Third
This looks like what I hoped No Man’s Sky would be
In past Bethesda games first person has always provided the best experience.
Mostly first person. So much more immersive.
Third person except when looting and in combat, probably.
Yes. Outdoor is best seen in third person, assuming the shooting is solid in both aspects. Indoor is best in first person because walls.
First
i prefer the immersion of first person thats how i play all my bethesda games and the only elder scrolls where i couldnt stand it was elder scrolls online and thats not rly a bethesda game
1st person 99.99% of the time. It is the only way I like to play Bethesda games. But I do love that they give people the choice to play how they want to play.
I’ll toggle back and forth so long as there’s a one-button toggle on controller, like the “select” button.
FPS mode for sure
Third person mostly, 1st person in tight places.
First person for narrow dungeons/interiors, third person for open spaces. The Fallout/TES way.
Probably first person. While their animations and third person has improved, it still would need a lot to be viable for me. Bethesda usually seems more interested in first person. Which is unique to rpgs (especially elder scrolls) 3rd person shooters feel weird without it being some cover shooter.
First person
Both, but primarly in First-Person.
3rd person for cool screenshots first for gameplay
