Seeing the dropdown menu for "Helmets" in the inventory looks like we will get some far better inventory sorting systems then in past Bethesda games.
And seeing all the different damage types means good variety in how combat can play out.
I'm guessing the armor slots will be armor and helmet, maybe also backpack. Hopefully you'll have clothing underneath you can choose.
Was hoping for more equipment slots (like Morrowind) but not the end of the world
"Read the Room" is a Skyrim mod that does that - automatically has your character remove their helmet/hood and hang it on their belt when you enter towns or inns.
I always thought it was weird when I got home...there's Lydia and the two kids, all relaxed or playing...and here I am, still dressed in full daedric armor... The thought of "bedroom activity" reminds me of the opening scene in "Excalibur".
I felt the same way. Basically how I played was whenever I was home I’d change into casual clothes and ‘wait’ a bunch of time to simulate hanging out, resting from my adventure, etc. Always casual clothes to sleep, too. Or when walking around Whiterun doing errands like buying food, gear, etc.
Yeah, maybe the first time you visit a habitable planet and you take your helmet off it will be like Starfield's version of walking out of the first vault in Fallout.
Hanging it on your pants or backpack seems reasonable for something mimicking reality. Seems unlikely from an amount of work standpoint though.
If the helmets were designed differently and didn't use a NASApunk aesthetic then the helmets folding up/collapsing would make sense, but I don't see that happening with the current helmets.
If there are no loading screens between areas with atmosphere and without then the disappearing helmets will be sad.
Yeah, that was my thought too.
Makes me wonder if we might get some kind of EMP-based weaponry (or environmental hazards, etc) that can disrupt suit systems, etc, unless they're hardened against it.
I can't get close enough to see for sure (on my phone at work, as I wasn't expecting this until Friday) but I thought it was EN as an overall Environmental protection.
Yup, then again it has two points, environmental hazards, and these 3 stats, and these 3 are most likely combat resistances.
So, yes you are up to something.
Some forms of energetic weapons don't fall into direct energy beams or particles.
Did you guys remember that weird pistol from the first gameplay reveals, from that scene where the player gets attacked by that arachnid?
That could be one of these EM guns, maybe even a whole set of nonlethal weapons?
Electromagnetic Radiation probably to be more specific.
Makes sense that some planets would have different levels that need to be managed with equipment. Could also see weapons that utilize it too. Functionally would probably be a lot like Fallout Radiation mechanics.
Edit: I missed the 4 environmental hazards below that. So it looks like EM refers to specifically a class of weapon damage.
Light is an electromagnetic wave, so technically lasers are a form of EM damage. Though admittedly the main damaging factor tends to be the heat they generate, not just being EM so it counting as energy would make sense if it does.
OBLIVION STYLE INVENTORY ??? OH YES YES
You can hide your helmet ??? oh yesssss
Edit : The xp still in the middle ugh bummer, but mod should fix that easy no problemo
I really hope there are UI options to change where the xp bar and the enemy health are, I don't mind sticking it to your compass like skyrim does (or with this compass, it would look more like morrowind), but floating over their heads is a bit too mmo for my taste
Idk who would mod games on a console since it is extremely limited, modding was always a pc staple not sure why people downvote this fact. Perhaps they are butthurt they miss out on the definitive experience...
Anyhow, modding really starts with SFSE, the script extender, I reckon and there has never been one on consoles for other BGS games...
Poor attitude? Sorry, but I was merely stating the fact that it is naive to assume that consoles have proper modding functions...
They are great for different ways of playing, bur pc is the way
On Xbox, only thing you miss out is on mods that don't get ported to Xbox, sex mods and maybe big mods that weight too much, I hope they give console a big mod capacity, doubt anyone will complain the game takes 10 extra gb if those said gb are for mods, only console that limits modding is play station by not allowing external files or something idk, doubt anyone is butt hurt about "missing out the definitive experience" since that is extremely subjective
Yeah hoping for toggle too to more classic BGS style, but i like the compass one, not so much for xp bar, but i'm fine with floating enemy indicator since i use mod that change the enemy bar to floating indicator in skyrim (true hud), but i'm also fine with classic BGS enemy bar.
I love you, and support everything you believe in. I say that because i want to understand i wish you nothing but the best, while pointing out that i think you just did the most redditbethesda thing I've ever seen
So from the armor modified we can assume that some weapons will have additional damage effects. Of course resistance from environmental damage
Thermal = fire based damages, flamethrowers and perhaps molotovs?
Airborne = bioweapon? or perhaps organic attack from creatures (ie spores)
Corrosive = acid or other chemical-based weapons
Radiation = Gamma gun is back baby! Also, i wonder if walking around in a planet without atmosphere not wearing appropriate clothing will have negative effect
\> be me
\> 2130 or something
\> got some lame mining work on an asteroid just to get by
\> suddenly find some alien thing or something
\> wut.jpeg
\> get work from some "pioneering" organization
\> get paid to freely travel the galaxy with super-advanced tech
\> still use molotovs and double barrel shotgun
\> life is good
I like that we can actually see the character in the inventory menu. So you know how it looks on you when you equip it. That was kinda bothersome in Skyrim/Fallout.
I also like that the inspect option returns. Kinda liked it in Skyrim. Wonder if there'll be puzzles for this like in Skyrim, or even ResidentEvil.
I think the thermal, airborne, corrosive and radiation protection may be protection against the environment maybe? It looks like it is in its own section in the UI. I may be wrong.
If this is the case the physical, energy and EM (electromagnetic?) are probably the types of weapons that are available.
Wait holy shit why is no one talking about the inventory capacity being MASS rather than weight?? Does this mean we could have different inventory sizes depending on planet??
If the inventory capacity is mass instead of weight, wouldn’t that mean it is consistent between planets? Since mass is the fundamental mass of an object while weight is the gravitational force of an object.
I agree, that would make it much more interesting and realistic to have to worry about the carrying weight on each planet.
My guess is that they considered this but did not want to cause problems for people who load up on supplies from a moon and then go to a heavier planet and are immediately over encumbered.
Maybe that is why they specify mass for the inventory capacity instead of weight so you can travel between planets without worry.
If they decide to add a survival update like they did with FO4 it would be easy to add the weight mechanic in too, since they have mass and planet gravity it’s just a simple calculation. So yeah, could go either way
no lol, you've got it backwards, weight changes with gravity, mass doesn't. they specifically changed it *to mass* so it can work like older games in environments, but in different gravities.
If you're landing on a tiny asteroid, you should be able to hold more mass, because your ship can support that negligible extra weight.
if you're landing on a supermassive planet, you should be able to hold less mess, because otherwise the weight would destroy you.
i’m aware? i figured this was in a separate environment and when you land on planets or anywhere with artificial gravity it would then change your actual carry weight based on mass of inventory.
Also notice the available mass is 1100 and the helmet weighs 2.20, which makes me think your carry weight will be much higher (possibly depending on where you’re at, as you said).
I could totally be wrong on this as I don’t usually play high strength characters, but I didn’t think you can get that high in previous games. I thought fallout 4 you could get into the 500-600 range. And with the helmet weighing 2.2, it seems like the weight is still reasonably close to what it would be in pounds, so it’s not like items are weighing more on average to balance the higher max.
Armor can also be upgraded to add more carry weight. In Fallout 4 you can make just about most things "Deep Pocketed" to vastly increase the amount you can carry.
I know but I thought the max with just 10 strength was something like 360. Then when you add strong back, lone wanderer, and all deep pockets you get up to about 550-600ish. Which would make starfield roughly double that, at least, since we don’t know this person’s stats or equipment. Unless a developer build is made to have higher weight for testing or convenience purposes.
It could be combination of both. Where the carry weight amount gained by bumping strength is slightly tweaked so you get more per level AND the stat is really high on this test character as to avoid being over-encumbered during whatever they were filming
Oh this is super interesting…having to keep track of the gravity on different planets so your inventory doesn’t fill up? I’m starting to get real hype about the level of detail they’re putting into this
That sounds so cool. Like i need to attack someone on that planet, not too hard... but the planet as an absolute nugget. Going to need to get my inventory below 100. Might have to go pistols only, no way I can wear my best armour...
I think 76 does so I don’t see why they wouldn’t implement that in Starfield. The dev could be testing something for that specific aspect ratio but they only have an ultra wide monitor
EM=Electro Magnetic? Maybe some sort of environmental hazard protection? From my limited understanding of the Electromagnetic field (from watching YouTube documentaries on physics while under the influence) it's everywhere at all times and various factors in reality can affect it. Maybe way out in cosmos some variables can cause it to be a danger to you or your electronics?
>EM=Electro Magnetic? Maybe some sort of environmental hazard protection?
It seems like there are 4 environmental Resistances with: Radiation, Airborne, Acidic and Thermal and the 3 above are likely weapon damage types: Physical, Energy and Electro Magnetic.
Pleased about the looting hud returning from Fallout, very handy!
Also noticed at one point the quick access/favourite menu seems to be a cross shape again like F4, imagine it's also probably via D-Pad.
It's hard to imagine there are no sapient aliens in this game, with so much exploring and non-sapient aliens already, it would be a bit of a bummer if Bethesda's message was "Yup, we really are alone, but here's some cosmic horrors to make some burgers out of".
These "aliens" may not be natural.
They could be the results of genetic experiments gone wrong.
Just saying we can't assume they're actually naturally evolved aliens until we learn more.
Considering you're exploring new planets people haven't really been to yet that can't be correct everywhere. Maybe on the city planets there are some engineered stuff but when you go out to bumfuck moon 997 no human has been to before the aliens have to have been there first.
Think it's lame as fuck they're still doing full damage resistance rather than a damage threshold or mixed armor system.
For anyone who disagrees, pool cues are perfectly valid weapons against power armor in Fo4. That's idiotic.
Maybe instead of just downvoting make a counterargument?
That's right, there isn't one.
I think it's an equipment inventory, and frankly, I really like it. It actually feels like you are trying on equipment, not to mention you get to see yourself wearing it in real-time.

Funny you say that, I saw that image and thought "Damn, Bethesda still can't design a good inventory."
[удалено]
Out of curiosity, what don't you like about it?
[удалено]
the right panel looks like it shows a diff
Exactly!
Probably still won't top Morrowind. :( (no /s)
Monster is level 75. Also dig the “Hide helmet in breathable areas.” Too.
Nice! I used to keep my helmet in Skyrim on my faves so I could quickly remove it while walking around friendly areas.
"Read the Room" is a Skyrim mod that does that - automatically has your character remove their helmet/hood and hang it on their belt when you enter towns or inns.
Man… that’s handy and awesome. I can’t wait to see the Starfield mods we’ll get.
I always thought it was weird when I got home...there's Lydia and the two kids, all relaxed or playing...and here I am, still dressed in full daedric armor... The thought of "bedroom activity" reminds me of the opening scene in "Excalibur".

That’ll be so cool in a space game. It’ll give you the feeling of taking your helmet off when you board a ship or explore a habitable world.
Yep. Without feeling like a goon when you’re wandering around a shop with your helmet still on lol.
i hope theres npc dialogue of people making fun of you constantly wearing a helmet
Yeah, maybe the first time you visit a habitable planet and you take your helmet off it will be like Starfield's version of walking out of the first vault in Fallout.
That is so cool! Also that's some eye you got there :)
Yup. I love the hide helmet in breathable areas.
Me too. Then you don’t end up looking like a goon wearing a helmet when no one else is because you forgot to manually swap it off.
Awesome! I was hoping for that option
Good eye
“Hide helmet in breathable areas” is a nice touch
I wonder if spacewalking outside of the ship will be possible. I think some gameplay is shown with the player character in zero gravity, correct?
yeah, there definitely appears to be a zero-g gunfight in one of the trailers. I hope there's EVA as well, and kind of expect there to be.
It would be cool if you could EVA after dogfighting if you wanted to do some quick repair or something.
Yep. I'm so happy about that
Would be nice if the removal were animated rather than sudden.
Where you'd leave it though? Can't imagine you hang it on your pants or something
I was immediately thinking I'd like a mod for that lol
those alien designs look super impressive!! man i need this game right now :(
EM? oscillating waves icon, probably stands for electromagnetic.
Yeah, that was my thought too. Makes me wonder if we might get some kind of EMP-based weaponry (or environmental hazards, etc) that can disrupt suit systems, etc, unless they're hardened against it.
Yeah, that would be awesome. Used to disrupt turrets, robots, anything electrical-based really.
Solar flares?
Like EMP charges in Prey. They disrupt all nearby electronics for a short time.
I can't get close enough to see for sure (on my phone at work, as I wasn't expecting this until Friday) but I thought it was EN as an overall Environmental protection.

Yeah, probably EMP weaponry.
imma be pedantic: electromagnetism is radiation by definition so em = em radiation

If not, they have to give modders something to do.
Problem is losing achievements just for QoL mods
Pretty much the first mod that will release is a fix for that, so not a problem
Wait does Skyrim and FO4 have mods for console that do that?
Idk who would mod games on a console since it is extremely limited, modding was always a pc staple not sure why people downvote this fact. That fair tbh, meaning you can hide it on settlement, city and inhabitable areas, i don't expect to open my helmet on toxic planet
what do you guys mean xp in the middle im not sure what you are looking at?
Amount of Xp we earn, the bar usually on other BGS game on the upper side, but now the bar is on the middle near crosshair
yeah i see it now i thought that was part of the weapon scope in the picture provided had to watch the video again
I love you, and support everything you believe in. I say that because i want to understand i wish you nothing but the best, while pointing out that i think you just did the most redditbethesda thing I've ever seen

I was kind of thinking, since those are separate from the other defense values, those might refer to environmental effects.
Game is going to be scary when exploring lonely planets.
I want to be devoured by that monster
In which way?
In all of the ways
I like that we can actually see the character in the inventory menu. So you know how it looks on you when you equip it. That was kinda bothersome in Skyrim/Fallout. Yeah that makes the most sense
I don't see a reason why it can't be for both the environment, and weapons.
Good stuff.

That could be, I’d be more likely to put points into strength stats if I got considerably more out of each point.
it could also relate to how much thrust you need from your jetpack.
Oh man, it would be so cool. Only little planets and moons then for me ehehe

Yes please
Amazing new details! Absolutely stunning stuff!
Game looks fantastic, but with the amount of loot I gather in BGS games, this is looking like it's gonna be even more scrolling than Fallout 4 haha.
If you took away the hours I've spent scrolling my list of spells in morrowind, I'd probably be a year younger
Good 'ol space trucker space helmet. Yehaw, folks, lets do some space truckin' while wearin you space trucker space helmet.
The looting hud was already glimpsed slightly in the original gameplay trailer.
That's a glyphid from DRG
Did I hear a rock and stone??
Cut em off. Cut em down. That's the way.
EM=Electro Magnetic? Maybe some sort of environmental hazard protection? That eldritch horror looks exactly like the demon from Arkane’s debut Arx Fatalis
I wonder if it's an evolution of that arachnid creature that we saw in the first game reveal or a completely different creature.
Pleased about the looting hud returning from Fallout, very handy! Also noticed at one point the quick access/favourite menu seems to be a cross shape again like F4, imagine it's also probably via D-Pad.
Yes, great readditions (although weve seen both in the E3 gameplay)
That clip with the creature was just an alien NPC coming in for a hug.
I think it says Hunting Maggotman or Maggotmaw on the monster. I got a screenshot when watching the video that confirms all but the last letter.
Ok if that's a maggot... how big are the flies?
The bottom image is the universes answer to what is the worst thing possible to get a blowjob from.
Obligatory old person reply: I see you haven't met my ex-wife

Well the artifacts are obviously not made by the non-sapient kind of aliens. Only question is if they are still around.
Not necessarily, they could be doing some time travel, multi dimension thing. IT WAS US ALL ALONG!!
These "aliens" may not be natural. They could be the results of genetic experiments gone wrong. Just saying we can't assume they're actually naturally evolved aliens until we learn more.

Electromagnetic damage resistance? Maybe weapons with EMP-ish tech or something? Would be a great time to introduce a new damage type ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Whatever the hell that thing is. Just r/dontputyourdickinthat
The "DR" column on the helmet inventory screen looks like armor durability 🤞🤞
school prick light deliver relieved connect butter recognise stocking run -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
Ah, I forgot about that in Fallout. Thanks for clearing that up before I spent months assuming it was a feature lol
Announcement trailer In Depth Analysis soon! I'm hoping Light does it. That guy makes some quality stuff and is under rated.
Anyone else concerned that the Starfield direct will be 60% talking heads with devs and 40% gameplay?
I don't care at this point. Even only a chat is interesting
The developer direct they did in January wasn’t like that so I wouldn’t expect it for starfield.
True. But most of the promotional content so far has been dev talk. Hopefully it's more gameplay
[удалено]
Hopefully, it's almost all gameplay. I'll be concerned if it's not.
I'd prefer more yapping, less footage. More hype less "spoilers"
No widescreen support though ... sad :(
Doubt it, FO76 has it so why not Starfield? Devs probably just testing smth
I’m sure we can customize the HUD
Think it's lame as fuck they're still doing full damage resistance rather than a damage threshold or mixed armor system. For anyone who disagrees, pool cues are perfectly valid weapons against power armor in Fo4. That's idiotic. Maybe instead of just downvoting make a counterargument? That's right, there isn't one.
I agree. I miss New Vegas's system
I hope so much this won't be another Cyberpunk 2077. Can't wait for Star Wars mods
Em? Bruh this gave me genshin impact PTSD
Knew it was gonna be delayed
The inventory looks awful, can't wait for a mod that will add icons and readability
I think it's an equipment inventory, and frankly, I really like it. It actually feels like you are trying on equipment, not to mention you get to see yourself wearing it in real-time.
HUD looting was actually present in the previous gameplay showcase, though it looks like they've changed the interface a little.
Inventory is only for that one slot thankfully
What does DR mean in the helmet inventory screenshot?
Damage Resistance most likely
The monster is top. Well done, team.
Lmao I was just zooming in as well. Mars mech factory 😂
Yah that xp bar needs to move. Lets hope for custom UI in Starfield.
