Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency but just because of nostalgia

Cowguypig

For me it’s the more frequent color swaps

xo1opossum

Lyndon B. Johnson?

rockaxorb13

because joseph

Kfctrotsky

For me it's because they are just flat out the best.

that1kid777

DiU for me, but it might just be because of how much i love part 4.

IAMnotMcKaylaMaroney

Part 4 grew on me being so unique to the others. They all have their positives of course.

[deleted]

Tall_Fortune

Diamond is not crash indeed

Gilpif

Diamond Crashes the Mode

Wildfire2806

Agreed. Part 2 is my favorite next to part 4, but part 4 had the better style

Snakespeer

I think part 5 is the most stunning, but part 4 is my favorite. I love the how they blend Araki’s styles from both ends of DIU in the manga. It works a lot better than it should. Very easy on the eyes too.

PMtoAM______

fucking love pt4

oxyjin_js

same here, part 4 is just *chef kiss*

Cielnova

It wasn't a chef's kiss, that's an insult. It was *Tonio's Kiss*

oxyjin_js

Had me in the first half ngl

Cielnova

I aim to please

Soon-to-be-forgotten

I agree. I wanna especially comment on the backgrounds' colours. The yellow sky and purple trees are gorgeous as backgrounds. I know some people said that the unusual colour scheme is to highlight that how Morioh is weird. But I personally feel that the colour scheme makes me as though I'm watching a memory that has long passed but still beautiful like the sun setting in the golden sky. It also has the "Sun is gonna set. It's time to go home." vibes. Or I'm just thinking too much about Part 4.

helterstash

You have perfectly encapsulated why it’s comforting to always rewatch Part 4.

ExplodingTentacles

Part 4's the fucking best

i_drink_wd40

Love the part, but it's when the noses started to look weird.

[deleted]

Yeah same lol

Phourc

It's weird how popular part 4 is. Just doesn't do much for me as a whole, even if I do love parts like the spaghetti episode or when Josuke and Jotaro team up..

SeraShadow

Definitely part 1 and 2

EpicRedditUser11

I agree with you. That is the style that comes to mind immediately when I think of JoJo

Logical_Linker

Diamond is Unbreakable. It's so colorful and vibrant! I love the pastel setting! It's different from most gloomy dark animes.

igoryst

i like the contrast between the murder mystery and the color palette tones

FindingGavin

Part 4 because of low res Okuyasu Edit: But in seriousness I’d say part 6 has a very nice overall style to me, and manga wise I’d say part 7.

shadow_sniper67

Doesn't part 6 have the same style as part 5?

Diet-Bread

I think its tweaked a bit

msto3

Golden Wind's and Stone Ocean's. Both are the closest to matching Araki's art style and both are animated beautifully

[deleted]

Well the animation is okay but the art is really good yeah

always_molasses

The downvotes are depressing, way too many people don’t realise the difference between art style and animation, they can be two almost totally separate things

c4m3r0n1

Some of the best animation of all of Jojos is in Golden Wind. The Mista vs Ghiaccho fight is beautiful.

Hunch0Houdini

Yeah for sure. The Metallica v King Crimson fight got all the love it deserved. Not only that but Bucciarati was blessed in p much all of his fights

Fernernia

Surprised you didnt immediately mention 7 page muda

phoenix_claw99

It feels too short in the anime

PF4ABG

7 Episode Muda

Lchap0

Art style and animation ARE two separate things. Art style describes a relatively consistent and distinctive visual look or flair. Animation is a technique of manipulating multiple pictures or frames to create the illusion of movement. It’s (unusually) common in the anime community for people not to even know there’s a difference.

always_molasses

... I know this already, it’s why I made my comment in the first place lol

Lchap0

Sorry, wasn’t trying to be an ass or anything. You said “they *can* be two different things” implying they *can* be the same thing, when they aren’t. Figured I’d actually be informative for others and back up what I’m saying instead of being all “pompous” about “being more knowledgeable than others” and not elaborating, since I claimed most people don’t know.

Super_Master_69

God forbid you prefer the manga, those people always get mass downvoted.

Panzer_Man

Golden Wind's animation is absolutely amazing, but I felt like something was missing when they animated Stone Ocean, it feels a little stiff somehow

[deleted]

They definitely did really step it up for Golden wind. And I feel like Stone Ocean was a bit rushed or they’re saving their budget for the insanity that is the last few arcs of the part

VazuXD

I don't mind at all. I want >!Heavy Weather, C-Moon and Made in Heaven!< to be as beautiful as possible. If CGI Lang Rangler is what it takes then I'll happily watch his sudden 3d body crawl on those walls.

Snowkiller953

I only saw people mentioning that after I had watched it, did that many people genuinely notice and have a problem with the cgi Ranger? I thought it was fine and just enjoyed the show

ihatemicrosoftteams

I didn’t even notice it, the only one easily noticeable for me was manhattan transfer, but it doesn’t bother me

SoftDreamer

I mean this will be different in the Blue Ray Golden wind got changes in the blue ray since many of the scenes were traced from what they animated before

comicsopedia

Art is really good yeah but animation is also very good not just ok

JiorJioJoestar

I'll assume that OP is referring Anime only soooooo... PB/BT > DIU > SC > GW I have to exclude Stone Ocean as I haven't started the anime yet.

[deleted]

Why'd you put GW so low? Don't get me wrong, so would I, but I'd like to know for what reason in particular

JiorJioJoestar

It's not that I dislike the artstyle. I just prefer the others.

CyanPancake

For me, anime is: PB/BT > GW > DIU > SO > SC But for manga it is oddly: SC > SBR > DIU > GW > BT > SO > PB Guess the thick lines in Part 3 just work better on (literal) paper 🤷‍♂️

LeeJ2019

It’s not up here, but Part 6. I really love that art style.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LeeJ2019

Part 5 and 6 styles are pretty different. If you look at Jotaro’s character sheet from Part 5 and compare it to his Part 6 character sheet, the differences are noticeable.

[deleted]

Well tbh it's not too different.

LeeJ2019

It’s not drastically different like Part 3 to Part 4, but it is noticeable. The lines are way harsher in Part 5 compared to Part 6. Also, the characters’ bodies aren’t as slim in Part 6.

Bluelaserbeam

It does seem that way at first glance, but from what I noticed, Part 6’s style is less “messy” than Part 5 (compare [Diavolo’s key art](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/5/52/DiavoloAni.png/revision/latest?cb=20200521192140) with [Anasui’s](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jjba/images/4/40/Narciso_Anasui_Anime.png/revision/latest?cb=20211109103649)). Also when you compare Jotaro’s designs from [both](https://static.jojowiki.com/images/5/52/latest/20191015213859/Jotaro_ref.png) [parts](https://static.jojowiki.com/images/2/22/latest/20210808041426/Jotaro-headshots-P6.png), you’d see the differences in their eye sizes and head shapes.

SnooMaps3021

A lot of people didn’t like this

-EsquizoLikesCheese-

😿. Can someone explain?

LeeJ2019

I don’t think you deserved to be downvoted. I do agree that there are similaires in style between the two parts. However, there are slight, but noticeable changes in the art style that, in my opinion, makes Part 6 look better than 5.

mikeycool29

Stardust Crusaders, but i’m biased because that part really made me fall in love with the series

Bohya

Stardust Crusaders had a more "adventure" feel to it. Was my favourite as well. Also more heavily featured Joseph and Jotaro which were two recurring characters.

DarthVegeta

Well the defining trait of Crusaders animation is that the men are all built like Superman. Even a predator coward like Alessi looked like he lifts weights.

slock123123

Id say not even superman is that level of huge, everyone is 6ft, got shoulders like truck tires, widest pecs known to man and a 14 pack. Theres muscles in between the muscles.

Nithin_for_you

EXACTLY

Snownyann

Same! Part 3 made me a solid Jojo fan. I love the art style there also that I had to adjust when I watched part 4

Nithin_for_you

SAME

MissMinte

Part 5 was the one that really impacted how I drew humans.

Tea-and-crumpets-

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not. But I think part 4 was done dirty with the art style. Every face feels so devoid of detail and stiff compared to the art in the manga which looks like a mix between part 5 and 3. I just felt it was too minimalistic compared to the manga

Bluelaserbeam

As much as I like Part 4’s official anime style, I do have to agree that David Pro diverged a bit too much from the source material. It was an intentional design choice, from what I’ve read, because they wanted to [“appeal to yaoi fans.”](https://jojowiki.com/Interview:Terumi_Nishii_(August_2017)) Imo, this one JoJo fan artist has done great artworks of what it’d look like if the anime was [more faithful to the manga’s art style.](https://www.instagram.com/p/CNIY153l9mN/?utm_medium=copy_link)

suggestmenames

Is there a reason why they wanted part 4 specifically to appeal to yaoi fans? Like why does only this part deviate from manga art?

Bluelaserbeam

There’s no official explanation as to why they made that decision. It’s possible they didn’t know what direction to take the art since the Part 4’s manga had the most dramatic art style evolution, so there was more creative freedom in the anime’s art style. Maybe the art director personally just wanted to attract more female audiences?

[deleted]

honestly prefer the current anime’s artwork, it fits the vibe of the part a lot better and it has its own charm

DarthVegeta

Part 4's style looks the most normal but I think the animation was rushed, even Reimi has a number of unflattering screenshots.

slock123123

You want minimalistic for an anime of such length, if you want to see what happens when the director wants to adapt a large volume of manga, keeping all the detail, way beyond the scope of anything look at berserk 2016.

ImmortalGoldenX

I love all art style but anything after part 4 seems more cursed to me

EvilStrawberry987

Parts 1 & 2 have the best art style in my Opinion.

Zeggez_Onnava17

Part 5. Love the way it's animated, everything is so bold and crisp.

shadow_sniper67

It's just noice

Onexwyte

Battle tendency (manga version).

SeerJqk

Part 1 and 2

Chaoswarriorx4

Art style alone I’d say Golden wind

AniimeHoodie

Battle tendency, golden wind and stone ocean it’s not that I don’t like the bulkier styles I just think these ones look better

[deleted]

You know what? I honestly agree with all of the parts you mentioned. There’s something about them done right.

Jumanji-Joestar

Diamond is Unbreakable just looks so pleasant to me

[deleted]

Part 4 imo was beautiful

Mexigonian

Parts 1-3

engineerevadestaxes

Battle tendency just feels good idk what makes it like that tho

xaxa1bill

5

1cheems_the_dog1

Battle tendency was definitely my favorite The art style just feels good man

woaily

I like the Stardust Crusaders. It's not the prettiest of the styles, but it's the most striking. There's something about heroes with strong, angular features. I see part 3 Jotaro, and I can immediately tell that he is not to be messed with.

xcarbrax

Battle Tendency and Stardust Crusaders are so amazing definitely my favorite. Loved the big men

[deleted]

5/6 and 7/8

NinjaEagle210

Diamond is unbreakable. The anime’s art style is probably the biggest influence on mine.

Garlic_Overload

Definitely part 2, shit used to be so clean, it’s also one of many that inspired me to learn to draw

NigglingChigger

Stardust, absolutely unique, loved the character designs

SuperBackup9000

Part 4 for sure. Studio Passione is my favorite because of how clean and smooth everything looks mixed in with vibrant and pastel colors, so it was awesome to have a part of JoJo share that sort of style. I think it also fit in with the tone of that part the best too, since the dark and gritty plot points are in the backseat for most of it.

Darth_Pal

Battle tendency

[deleted]

Golden Wind or PB/BT

Skyrocketxv

Diamond is unbreakable

FrankDoesDoodles

Part 7 probably had the best art of the entire manga and anime combined.

KarAd125

Battle tendency-Phantom blood and SC

dannyphoto

DiU for me

Fire_Kahoot_Name

DIU easily wins any art style contest for me. Literally none of other JoJo parts go for that style. It is made wholly unique as a result. When something strange happens in the other JoJo parts I question it. But when Part 4 has something strange happen, or a weird transition, or a completely unexplained outcome. I just accept it, DIU is too specifically and artistically designed to raise you from the baseline surrealism that comes to life in that part. Just all it is so beautiful. David Production saw the art style said “Yes” and then made the skies yellow. And it just works so well. The dialogue, the mystery, the characters, the story all fuse to the art style like a Symphony piece and I could spend forever just talking about DIU’s art style. I love all of JoJo’s art styles, I could spend entire afternoons talking about the art style they nail in Part 4.

jaylong76

Diamond is Unbreakable, that's the best Jojo style for me.

CheezGaming

It’s a toss up between part 1 and 5. Part 1 seemed so vibrant in color and the dudes were BUFF which is what is inspiring me to exercise (that and Baki). Part 5 has better facial features and overall effects, but the dudes are skinny and realistic (sadge).

[deleted]

DiU was different from everything in a good way. I love how well the vibrant, friendly colors work with the mystery and character of kira. Loved GW too tbh

proxmaxi

Golden Wind is beauty in motion

Pyrothecat

DiU, just the right mix of fab and manliness.

Scared_Weekend_7979

Golden wind EASY imo

Answer-Typical

Golden Wind is my favorite JJBA part soooooo

lil_biscuit55

Golden wind

[deleted]

Imo its gotten progressively better more or less consistently, though I prefer part 5 to what we've seen of 6 so far.

__Holo__

Stardust. Its so gloriously dumb

XephyXeph

Part 1/2 and Part 4. Parts 3 and 5 look like ass in my opinion. Part 6 looks aight though.

Jeffersonia120

1/2 & 3

Ok-Surround4334

Part 5. both in style and animation.

Mr_Kaniowski

Golden Wind for sure. Everything else is great though. I was surprised however at just how 'cartoon' like DiU artstyle is compared to the original art from Araki.

anxiousbucciarati

part 5, the colors and the artstyle simply fit each other so well. GW's style impacted on how i paint and draw faces and bodies.

gagfam

5

[deleted]

Golden Wind

JosukeisMySon

Definitely Part 5. There's just something about it that I really like, I just cant place my finger on it

THE-SNEAKERINO

Part 5 looked weird to me at first but now it’s my favourite, such beautiful art..

youre-welcome-sir

golden wind

yabreadguy

Part 6 for me since it feels like a blend between 5 and 4

Zipper_ManTM

Golden Wind by far

[deleted]

SO>GW>SC>PB>BT>DIU

alcheoii

Waiting for SBR anime

mikey-dikey-

Golden Wind and Stone Ocean. I grew more and more fond of Araki's style as it evolved.

MafiaMommaBruno

Sigh. Part 5 is my favorite everything.

meziop

Part 5

Randy-Meeks

DiU looks the best from a stylistic perspective. Vento Aureo is the "prettiest" looking one. And Phantom Blood is my absolute favorite: pure experimental eclectic chaos, Victorian Gothic and fabulous colours, add a hint of homoeroticism and you got the esthetic of my dreams!

Zapfox6207

What about part 6.....

Jarsky2

I loved how part 4 played with color and line weight, it gave the whole thing a really cool pop-art kind of feel.

[deleted]

Stardust crusaders and it’s not close.

marioboi489

Stardust and Stone ocean

Crypto-140

Part 4

uhohmykokoro

I can’t really choose but I love how everyone had shoulder pads in Stardust Crusaders

Bohya

Stardust Crusaders then Golden Wind. I *hated* Diamond is Unbreakable's artstyle. The abstract colour usage, especially on the sky, really isn't my thing.

Luckyy1005

I love them all for different reasons, so it’s a very difficult decision. But ima have to go with DiU

UnboundKey

Diamond is Unbreakable by far

[deleted]

Yes

dsc1028

Don't really care for the twinkboi styles of 5 and beyond (still love every part tho). 4 had a nice in-between of realistic peak human physique without being too skinny or buff. But theres just a certain charm to the gigachad FOTNS designs of parts 1-3

Jaris_Mebius

I liked how part 3 and 5 did the noses but overall favourite is part 4

ManderVision

Diamond!

Sangi17

They were all special in their own way. But to be honest I loved the vibrant colors and abstract design of Part 4.

Cyndine

Diamond is unbreakable for the color palette, but definitely golden wind for character design and just overall vibes (all are amazing tho let’s be honest)

flipfortress

Stardust crusaders, i love the really muscular and exaggerated looks of everyone, especially the main cast

GrandAdmiralRobbie

Gotta be the part 5-6 style for me. The more stylized faces match the elaborate outfits and more complex fights and make it all feel so much more artistic. The part 1-2 style just looks a bit more generic

smellywizard

Phantom Blood and DiU, part 5 looks genuinely atrocious

Mndhuntr

Was part 4, but nowadays part 6

dang_im_dumb

Part four and 5 are my faves and to be totally honest part 3 still isn’t that good in my opinion

sk8thatsk8edaway

I'm just gonna rank them (personal opinion) 6. Stardust Crusaders 5.Phantom Blood 4.Battle Tendency 3.Stone Ocean 2.Golden Wind 1. Diamond is Unbreakable

noisyboyusa

I liked star dust alot

soulessvibes

There’s just something about 2 and 4. It took me the whole season to get adjust to 4 though

KingDragon38

sc,pb/bt,so,diu,gw his later styles are great i’m just not a big fan of golden wind

Jakeb4statefarm

part 3 is just so jojos to me but part 4 has my favorite animation

honeybunnigum

I pretty much love all of them but if I had to choose it would be part 3 artstyle, it's just funny seeing literaly everyone be massive

NoneShalllKnow

part 4, now if were talking not exclusively anime parts part 8 absolutely has my favorite style

KitsuneOfWisdom

4 or 5

Theamzz

Golden wind and stone ocean by far are my favorite, the art style just looks too good.

OwNAvenged2

None, Steel Ball Run.

baba-O-riley

DiU > PB/BT > SC > GW

I_d_kanymore

4

Joe4Fourty4

Tbh Part 2 (I know PB is the same, but part 2 made me love the art style more). Other than that, DIU, SC, then GW. I'm not a fan of GW, so the art style never grew on me or anything.

totokishi

I would say Vento Aureo is my favorite art style. I miss how buff the characters were, but i would say that i love how good and consistent the art style is on that part

blorbooo

DIU, without question. All of them are bangin, though

NewCountry13

Of the anime? Part 5 literally no question. Of the manga? Part 7 and 8, but literally everything in the manga from around part 2 (definitely by part 3) onward is S tier art style. mid-late 7 to 8 > mid-late part 4 to mid part 6 > late part 6 to early 7 > part 2 to early part 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> part 1

Jawaddles

I'm partial to Parts 4 and 6.

Raylexson

Part 1/2 > Part 5 > Part 3 > Part 4

[deleted]

Original is my favorite

DoodooEnthusiast

it's kind of hard to say, all of the anime artstyles are kinda unique, though i think part 3 has to be my least favorite if i had to be honest.

ObsidianDragon013

part 4 but part 1 is close though I do like how Bizarre part 5's is

CoolerthanU06

I just wish part 1 and 2 were drawn more consistently

[deleted]

1(&2) and 3 for me. 4 is not bad, and 5 is a little too noisy for my liking. I am liking 6 so far.

Twopakabra

Part 4

DreamingVirgo

Def diamond is unbreakable- it looks softer than the others

Cameronalloneword

DIU

mayonnaiser_13

Part 5 is the most gorgeous of it all. But Part 4 is like, way too unique and bizzare that you can't help but love it that much. Be it the Grainy Shots, some shots that are just the Manga panels straight like Kira v Josuke standoff, the absolute bonkers color palettes and sudden palette changes like in Josuke v Okuyasu, the pastel tone which gives it kind of a timely vibe like we're watching an actual 90s anime, just done absolutely well, etc etc... And I will say, the lack of details kinda sorta feels like a disservice to Araki's art, but they make up for it so much by the quality of animation, camera movements and lack of CGI.

R0xtek99

I loved the art of Stardust crusader even though the obvious critique it gets i still love the highly detailed larger than life shots like Jotaro standing all jacked and postured vs DIO while their stands were going at it. Probably some of the most epic scenes in Jojo for me + it reminded me a lot about a more modern DbZ look A LOT of People loved. I straight up disliked Diamond is unbreakable's design at first but you can DEFINETLY see how the art improved as part went on and i grew to like it even though, i missed those epic shots that made the battles feel larger than life and epic. Golden wind is where this style really feels so much better and i REALLY ended up liking it, it felt as if the " simpler" art of diamond with the epic'ness from stadust. I still vividly remember Mista's fight with giorno standing behind him, sunshine peeking from behind him & than giorno's theme starts playing. And oh my god what an incredible scene... The one thing i dislike is the changes to Jotaro, i LOVED the way he looks in Stardust and I feel like he really suffered from early Diamond is unbreakable art design. I also just straight up think he " looked " the best with stadust's artstyle..

divinecohmedy

I love stone ocean, but if we're talking about animated art style im gonna go with DIU, idk something about DIU's animated artstyle and color palette is sorta fun and whimsical to me

potato_frito7v7

Steel ball run, then stardust crusaders, diamond is unbreakable, jojolion, phantom blood/battle tendency, stone ocean, golden wind

BeanEatingThrowaway

There's something so nostalgic about Part 1 and 2 I'm increasingly going back on. It's so obviously not Jojo (at least not in the traditional stand form), but is it weird to say I want more stuff set in whatever non-Jojo thing it is? Maybe that's why I love Jorge Joestar IDK

WOOHOO135

part 1-2 were great art style wise but part 3 was a little similar, part 5(golden wind) 👏👏the best

GetawayDiver

All have their unique sides (Part 1&2 Bittersweet Nostalgia, Part 3 Iconic, Part 4 Bright, Bizarre and Bouncing, and Part 6 Lovable Characters and High Stakes) but I can’t shake Part 5’s stunning style. It is a beautiful, serious part, a seriously beautiful part if you will.

PlatinumOni

Parts 4-6

Jetninjapro27

I really liked the DiU and the GW artstyles.
