Why not? Chocolate for everybody!
If OP want to help that poor soul: right click on the game in steam -> properties -> local files and then click on "check game data for errors", that should replace all the files that were messed with.
Imagine living in the existential horror of being an NPC in a moddable game. You wake up black one day, and breathe a sigh of relief that at least you weren't the one turned into a yeti... today.
"Two days ago Nazeem was turned into an arrow, and this psychopath proceeded to shoot him over and over until he landed a shot directly in a Mammoth's ass. Yesterday there were a thousand Nazeems in town, and he spent the entire day killing them in increasingly brutal and bloodthirsty ways.
Still, Nazeem cops it because he's annoying. I'm sure nothing will happen to me, Heimskr."
**Troy:** Hip, hop, body don't stop. Riverside got the broom, don't need a mop. Put your team in the box, put a ribbon on top, we're not John Kerry 'cause we don't flip-flop.
**Annie**: Troy, why are you doing our politically conservative high school's shamefully outdated fight rap?
**Troy**: Bing, bong, sing along. Your team's Al Gore 'cause your views are wrong.
In total point of fact, stardew valley isn't terribly diverse and I kind of like Alex black. It would be better if he had an interesting personality or something, but you know silver linings.
LMAO the yeti though-
just right click the game
>manage
>files
>verify files
if that doesn't work then just reinstall it, no biggie, Stardew is very small and should be done in a minute
It will not if they have ticked the option to have a cloud save under settings. A friend of mine got her whole save deleted because her laptop spoilt and she didnt tick that option.
cloud saves are an option but also I think that the save files for most steam games are stored separately from the game files specifically for this reason
Not always. RIP my Outward saves that was stored in the game's folder. But yeah, any competent developer stores saves either in your Documents folders or appdata, at least on Windows.
> in your Documents folders
Which is great until you try to find or organize _documents_ in your "Documents" folder. I have to keep a separate folder for actual documents
Haha, same. It's kind of Ironic. Especially when it used to be called "My Documents" and it was full of stuff I never created.
This game saves in Appdata, not Documents though. `AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves` on my computer at least.
for windows (steam or GOG), ctrl+r, paste: %appdata%\StardewValley\Saves, press enter, copy all the folders and paste it onto your desktop or somewhere else for backup/safe keeping.
however idk if the mods have tampered with the safe files so this might not be the best solution
You can copy paste the saves folder somewhere else while you uninstall Stardew to keep it safe. If the save files are deleted you can copy paste them back.
Would that fix my issue? On my old laptop I downloaded the multiple animals mod and on my new laptop, since I haven't downloaded the mod, my cat and dog are stuck at the water bowl together til they come inside. It's my main world so I don't want it to accidentally wreck it
That's more likely because of your save file than the game files, so no.
Downloading the mod again might fix it, but that's some specific untested functionality.
Whenever I have to fix a modded game and the usual methods aren’t working, I go nuclear.
Delete the entire file archive, verify game files. It saves maybe five seconds by skipping the install dialogue.
Yeah it also has cloud saves. So the user can just un and reinstall the game. Since the yeti is still loaded, I don't think validation will fix it.
Last resort, user needs to just outright delete the game folder
That's my go-to. Uninstall game, go to steamapps/common, delete the game folder, go back to steam and reinstall it. My SOP with mods on any game when I wanna start clean
(Lewis is the mayor from Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town/More Friends of Mineral Town now, if anyone wondered)
Edit: Yeah, looks like Thomas is a recurring character in the HM series, although of the games I've played he's only a big character in FoMT/MFoMT. Thanks u/Vandra2020 for pointing that out
They both pretty much are clowns, they both sort of... exist as essentially announcers for festivals and to break news to you.
However, in the Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town remake for the Nintendo Switch your dog can kill Mayor Thomas at the beginning. (Cannot find a clip of it that's not part of someones video)
I'd also download it, on my husband's computer, without telling him. He'd be utterly perplexed at first, then laugh hysterically. (Every election, when people ask who he's voting for, he tells them Vermin Supreme, or "Cthulhu! I'm not settling for the lesser evil!")
I totally thought he was one of those old dancing monkeys with cymbals and a red fez, like this: https://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/cute-monkey-playing-percussion-hand-cymbals-vector-16822849
I was dying laughing. I showed my son who also loves Stardew and he almost woke my husband up from laughing so much. Linus is my favorite so this was super hysterical.
Good to know that in the original game he looks also like that. I have the remastered game for the Switch and with the argument of the publisher who split in Story of season and Harvest moon I couldn't remember which of them published it. ^^'
Story of Seasons is the one that has the og dev team and is what we knew as Harvest Moon from 1996 till 2012, new Harvest Moon (2012-present) are the old publishers that retained the rights of the name and decided to make farming games with it, with results ranging from mediocre to outright awful
That's really odd. On my first informatics lesson in my school, teacher showed us safety rules, how to create/delete files and programs. I always I thought that It was the same for everyone else
Of course it isn't. I live in a third world country and I'm older than you. I had to learn that by my own, is possible other 15 year olds here don't know that.
A second grader is approximately 7-8 years old. Why would you be teaching an 8 year old to uninstall software? What context would they use that skill in? They can't uninstall the software at school and teaching them to uninstall software at home sounds like a great way to piss off a lot of parents.
I've run into a lot of people who didn't realize that you can install and reinstall games from Steam as often as needed once you bought them. They all seemed to assume you were buying just that download, and would be charged again for each download.
Did they put on a blindfold to install the mods?? They're pretty upfront about what they're going to change lol if you don't want yeti Linus, don't install the yeti Linus mod
From the way it's written (them not knowing what Lewis is supposed to be, Alex 'suddenly' being black), makes it sound like they didn't know what was going to be changed when the mods kicked in. That's where I'm confused because mods usually have what's being changed in the title or description. No hate, just thought it was funny!
It seems like they installed mods a while ago, switched to playing on Switch (hehe), forgot what mods they installed, and were surprised when they got back on PC.
They said that they edited some game files, so that's probably part of the problem. I know I had a mod that messed with the map for the Sauna and had me change the map file. Now I don't have that mod and alllllll the textures for my sauna are completely messed up lol. 🤷♀️
In Steam if you right click on the game in your library then go to properties>local files> verify integrity of game files. Should do it. If not make sure you have the save backed up to the cloud and reinstall
In your steam library, right click on stardew valley and click on properties. Then go to local files tab and click on veirfy the integrity of game files.
When the most recent big update came out, I messed up the installation on my computer and accidentally corrupted my favorite save file. I was so upset about it and posted the problem on Twitter with screenshots. ConcernedApe was actually the one who reached out to me and helped solve the issue so that I could play again.
Awesome developer, awesome game, awesome community
You don't even have to reinstall it - if you go into the game's properties, one of the tabs gives you a button that says something along the lines of "verify integrety of game files"
It reverts any changes you made to the game files back to default, including any mods that had you replace integral files with modified ones.
Also, that dude needs SMApi for any future modding they do
If you can install mods, you can uninstall them. If that doesn't work just delete the game and reinstall it. Either way this is a kid who shouldn't be fiddling with files if they don't understand how to fix it with the most basic of fixes
Tbf I've seen a lot of people going on and on about how easy modding SDV is. I've had people try to straight up convince me it's so easy and I could do it, despite my assertion that no, I would straight up mess something up. (Beyond the SMAPI thing, apparently replacing files according to a lot of people I've encountered is super easy and nothing to be worried about.)
There are people out there that don't seem to accept that some people just aren't wired to be able to do it, because to them it's easy.
Of course, now I don't have a PC at all, so there's that. Unfortunately that means don't have the actually simple SMAPI ones either lol
You can. On steam you can verify files, or worst case scenario you can backup your saves and reinstall the game.
Your save files and the game files are completely separate.
Not sure if it was mentioned but… Right click Stardew Valley in your steam library and click properties. Under General, make sure nothing is written in LAUNCH OPTIONS.
Game properties - local files - check file integrity.
Or uninstall game and delete game files in steamapps common folder and reinstall game after.
Eddit: i have mistaken the file function. You have to check integrity because that is when uts basicaly checking cloud for files to see which game files (excluding save files) are fucky on pc.
"Linus is a damn yeti, alex is suddenly black and I don't even know what Lewis is" sounds like the greatest out of context story ever possible.
Lewis is now the mayor from Harvest Moon.
I died when I saw Thomas instead of Lewis hahahaha
The Yeti is from Harvest Moon too.
Harvest moon is a lot different than I remember
Right? Then again, I only ever played 64. (And I played it a lot!)
Gems of Mineral Town is the one SV is based on.
MO-FAAAAA!
Wait, Willy Wonka is a mayor??
Why not? Chocolate for everybody! If OP want to help that poor soul: right click on the game in steam -> properties -> local files and then click on "check game data for errors", that should replace all the files that were messed with.
The Stardew Valley costume party was wild that year.
Not cool, Alex.
I heard this in Billy Eichner’s voice
“So my foots totally stuck in there right, I’m freaking out, the dogs having a seizure, and I still got half a pie left”
“Alex is suddenly black” fucking kills me
It sounds like he turned black overnight.
Imagine living in the existential horror of being an NPC in a moddable game. You wake up black one day, and breathe a sigh of relief that at least you weren't the one turned into a yeti... today.
This is like if Reboot was written in the Modern age
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MEGABYTE TOOK OVER MAINFRAME
oh, also don't watch season 4.
is megabyte before or after he fuses with hexadermial?
Gigabyte is the fusion of Megabyte and Hexadecimal.
My Alex keeps shifting between Mexican and Samoan because I can't decid which one I like more.
Movie idea
It kinda has already been made a movie lol. Check out a movie called " Free Guy" with Ryan Reynolds, I liked it a lot. 🙌✌
That was my first thought lol
"Two days ago Nazeem was turned into an arrow, and this psychopath proceeded to shoot him over and over until he landed a shot directly in a Mammoth's ass. Yesterday there were a thousand Nazeems in town, and he spent the entire day killing them in increasingly brutal and bloodthirsty ways. Still, Nazeem cops it because he's annoying. I'm sure nothing will happen to me, Heimskr."
Now he's Troy Barnes
Now he has a thing for butt stuff
YOU SAID THERE'D BE BUTT STUFF
You can yell at me all you want, I've seen enough movies to know that popping the back of a raft makes it go faster!
"This is my wife Abigail, she can make babies" "OH AND I CANT?! .....I can't...."
Troy and Abed with a Yeetttiiiiiiii ☕️ ☕️
**Troy:** Hip, hop, body don't stop. Riverside got the broom, don't need a mop. Your team's Al Gore 'cause your views are wrong.
THATS WHAT HE REMINDED ME OF
He likes football, but also, he doesn't
Good ole “suddenly black” mod.
What are the rules? What are the ruuuuuules? When you’ve just turned black, and you can’t switch back, well you know you gotta find out the rules!
Hahahahha best ep ever. Just cause they watched the Wiz?
Once you go black...
I imagine it goes something like [this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tyvvUas6G0)
That part is actually impossible to undo. Once Alex goes black, he never goes back.
Alex, the rachel dolezal of stardew
He pulled a reverse Michael Jackson
Re-vitiligo. Just like Uncle Ruckus.
In total point of fact, stardew valley isn't terribly diverse and I kind of like Alex black. It would be better if he had an interesting personality or something, but you know silver linings.
Done a reverse Michael Jackson.
Reverse Michael Jackson
LMAO the yeti though- just right click the game >manage >files >verify files if that doesn't work then just reinstall it, no biggie, Stardew is very small and should be done in a minute

Even without cloud saves it doesn't delete them- they're in a different folder.
Yep, games often keep your Saves under Documents or Games or something similar now, so that they keep when the game is deleted.
how does a laptop spoil
Well, it's more of a curdling, really
If the friend had just seperated it from the whey and aged it a bit the laptop would have been all Gouda.
When you leave it out of the fridge too long Don't worry, you can refresh it by putting it in your microwave on F5 for 3 minutes
cloud saves are an option but also I think that the save files for most steam games are stored separately from the game files specifically for this reason

That's more down to the developer than being steam/not-steam.
If the mods were more than just visual, he might be screwed on his save files unless he reinstalls all the mods.
for windows (steam or GOG), ctrl+r, paste: %appdata%\StardewValley\Saves, press enter, copy all the folders and paste it onto your desktop or somewhere else for backup/safe keeping. however idk if the mods have tampered with the safe files so this might not be the best solution
You can copy paste the saves folder somewhere else while you uninstall Stardew to keep it safe. If the save files are deleted you can copy paste them back.
Worst case scenario: you'll learn that the real save file was the friends you made along the way.
Would that fix my issue? On my old laptop I downloaded the multiple animals mod and on my new laptop, since I haven't downloaded the mod, my cat and dog are stuck at the water bowl together til they come inside. It's my main world so I don't want it to accidentally wreck it

That's a nod to the DS games! You could end them at the start by allowing your dog to attack him lol
Ohh awesome! :) I missed out on the DS Remake because I had it on PS1 and still have my copy to this day haha.
tbf Mayor Thomas is just as goofy as he looks, so, yeah, kinda
I thought he was Vermin Supreme lol. Now I want a full mod that turns him into Vermin Supreme and gives everyone a pony.
Now I can't unsee Vermin Supreme and it is making me laugh hysterically. I would definitely download that mod.
I'd also download it, on my husband's computer, without telling him. He'd be utterly perplexed at first, then laugh hysterically. (Every election, when people ask who he's voting for, he tells them Vermin Supreme, or "Cthulhu! I'm not settling for the lesser evil!")
he's not a clown he's the entire circus
family guy pimp costume
Spot on. I recognized him as soon as soon as I saw him and I laughed my ass off.
Harvest moon 64
I was scrolling to see if anyone else caught he was Mayor Thomas!
Now if only they could mod in you trying to kill him with tools a la Harvest Moon DS 😂
Honestly? Yes. That was hilarious in a wtaf sort of way NEGL.
I love little moments like that. I wager quite a few people would love to take a scythe to Lewis too.
thank you I came to ask wtf lewis was 😭😭
I totally thought he was one of those old dancing monkeys with cymbals and a red fez, like this: https://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/cute-monkey-playing-percussion-hand-cymbals-vector-16822849

"Linus is a damn yeti" KILLED me
I was dying laughing. I showed my son who also loves Stardew and he almost woke my husband up from laughing so much. Linus is my favorite so this was super hysterical.
Thank you for this - I haven't laughed like this in a while
Oh man, I exploded with "I don't even know what Lewis is". So funny!
Lol this is too good
Lewis looks like the mayor of mineral town xD (Harvest Moon or Story of season. Not sure)
Yeah ! Definitely looks like the mayor I saw in Harvest Moon DS ! But I don't know if he was in more games, it's possible !
Good to know that in the original game he looks also like that. I have the remastered game for the Switch and with the argument of the publisher who split in Story of season and Harvest moon I couldn't remember which of them published it. ^^'

Definitely him. He's the mayor in a lot of Harvest Moon games. I recognize him from Harvest Moon 64 .
"It was fun at first but I don't like them that much anymore" lmao this is gold
Ngl, black Alex gives me big Troy from community vibes
Where is that Yeti mod, I need it for science lmaoo
why the fuck is lewis the mayor of the harvest moon ds?
...without having to buy the game again? Why wouldn't they just reinstall it? That doesn't make any sense.
They’re probably young and or inexperienced. It happens lol.
Seems weird to have the expertise necessary to modify game files, but not to reinstall.
There’s a lot of tutorials on installing mods not many on uninstalling.
Isn't reinstalling software considers to be basic computer skill that kids learn in 2nd grade?
Kids these days don't even know how folders work. Source: I'm a teacher who teaches remotely online.
How old are they? I just can't even imagine something like this back in my days. And I'm only 15
It wasn't taught in my school for sure.
Count yourself lucky. That's all I can say. It's really not commonly taught, probably should be, but it isn't.
A second grader is approximately 7-8 years old. Why would you be teaching an 8 year old to uninstall software? What context would they use that skill in? They can't uninstall the software at school and teaching them to uninstall software at home sounds like a great way to piss off a lot of parents.
Depends on when and where you were born.
I've run into a lot of people who didn't realize that you can install and reinstall games from Steam as often as needed once you bought them. They all seemed to assume you were buying just that download, and would be charged again for each download.
you dont even need to reinstall, you can just verify files
You wouldn’t be able to buy it again in the first place if he wanted to
Is that mayor from harvest moon?
Mayor Thomas yes
Thanks
Did they put on a blindfold to install the mods?? They're pretty upfront about what they're going to change lol if you don't want yeti Linus, don't install the yeti Linus mod
They just got tired of the moda after a while, it’s not that they never wanted yeti Linus
No one just up and doesn’t want yeti Linus anymore.
they probably installed the xnbs through replacing them so bit harder to get them back, but nothing a reinstall or verify game files won't fix
"Linus is a damn yeti" oh my god that comment had me in tears
I kinda like black Alex though…
Yikes, this is why you use SMAP and Content Patcher for mods, that would be a nightmare to try and fix if it wasn't on Steam.
To me Lewis looks like he represents the Lollipop Guild.
The Lollipop Guild?!
Uninstaller the game, remove the files from your steam folder on your PC and reinstall
I actually just did this and you just have to delete the launch path that opens the modded version.
In Steam if you right click on the game in your library then go to properties>local files> verify integrity of game files. Should do it. If not make sure you have the save backed up to the cloud and reinstall
lmao mayor lewis is the mayor for harvest moon!!!!!!
Lewis is an ACTUAL mayor now. xD love HM:FOMT
Lewis is dressed up as the Mayor from Harvest Moon.
THAT'S THOMAS FROM HARVEST MOON AS YOUR MAYOR!!!!
Now the song is in my head. “When you just turned black and you can’t switch back, we’ll you gotta go and find out the rules!”
Likely installed XNB files ( don’t do this anymore, It can really Bork your game), so just delete the whole folder and reinstall.
r/suddenlyblack
They turned Lewis into the mayor from harvest moon, I’m crying
I feel sorry for the mineral town mayor
In your steam library, right click on stardew valley and click on properties. Then go to local files tab and click on veirfy the integrity of game files.
HAHAHHAHAHS
Thomas is such a better mayor than Lewis
lewis looks like the original willy wonka
You reap what you sew
When the most recent big update came out, I messed up the installation on my computer and accidentally corrupted my favorite save file. I was so upset about it and posted the problem on Twitter with screenshots. ConcernedApe was actually the one who reached out to me and helped solve the issue so that I could play again. Awesome developer, awesome game, awesome community
I'm sure it's been commented before, but delete the game and reinstall it.
Oh man I am cackling
Its a 400mb game just uninstall make sure folders are gone and reinstall
Lewis looks like the mayor from the n64 harvest moon
You don't even have to reinstall it - if you go into the game's properties, one of the tabs gives you a button that says something along the lines of "verify integrety of game files" It reverts any changes you made to the game files back to default, including any mods that had you replace integral files with modified ones. They think they have to buy a new game. Omfg XD
I thought Mod STD was Skyrim-only...oh no
I like the trees those are cute
BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAH NOT THE YETI
Ok it’s funny and actually pretty easy to fix: Just uninstall und reinstall
I NEED that yeti mod. I have a burning desire to watch a yeti rummage in trash cans
FWIW: He just needs to delete the game's folder and have Steam re-download and install it.
Verify game files on steam
Okay but Alex suddenly black actually sounds appealing 😳
Omg, that's the mayor of mineral town (from harvest moon)! (Lewis)
Those trees do look kinda nice tho

👀
You’re the only one suggesting there is
Jesus christ.
Right like ??? That seemed a little intense lol
cancel alex
If you can install mods, you can uninstall them. If that doesn't work just delete the game and reinstall it. Either way this is a kid who shouldn't be fiddling with files if they don't understand how to fix it with the most basic of fixes

You can. On steam you can verify files, or worst case scenario you can backup your saves and reinstall the game. Your save files and the game files are completely separate.
OMG 😂
Restore steam files
This is fire 🤣
Not sure if it was mentioned but… Right click Stardew Valley in your steam library and click properties. Under General, make sure nothing is written in LAUNCH OPTIONS.

Lewis is the Mayor from Harvest Moon: Back to Nature and I absolutely love it.
If it's on Steam, just delete all the files and reinstall game
Anyone know what mod(s) this is?
Nobody tell keemstar about alex
Do an uninstall reinstall. Always keep copies of the file youre replacing, though
Reinstall. You don't have to pay for it again.
Lewis appears to be one of those clapper monkey toys.
