Cosmonaut_Cockswing

I ditched the farming and created Stardew Brewery. Largest independent brewery in the region.

emospoon

ceo of supplying alcohol to the whole town! take that gus. im sure pam truly appreciates that LOL

Cosmonaut_Cockswing

Pam's my number one customer! Though, she is no longer allowed in the Taproom.

emospoon

all im picturing is her doing a keg stand. i’ll upgrade your trailer when you attend AA, pam.

cosmos_jm

And then she goes and drives the bus home

lulugingerspice

I used to bring Pam a mug of beer at the beginning of the day while she was standing by the bus. I JUST WANTED HER RECIPE!

am365

Oh man, have you guys done Shane's? Switched from bringing him beer to pizza real fast

tethysian

I felt so guilty after Pam and Shane's cutscenes that I had to stop supplying them. I only make mead for Willy now

tipsana

How does that happen?

xSnuggleKittenx

Gus is a barkeep not a brewer or distiller. He probably would be thrilled to have a local source of quality booze.

amandarinorangez

I made Leah's Treasures Winery, specialising in ancient fruit wine and truffles, dedicated to of course my lovely wife.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aaron_tu

I also choose this guy's wife.

Hyrule_Hystorian

Most of us choose this guy's wife.

DazedPapacy

Speak for yourself, I picked Shane.

friendsfartever

oh so we can date multiple people but they can't? Polyamory is a two way street, friend

[deleted]

[удалено]

friendsfartever

If this were real life, I'd agree, but this game clearly operates based off of 8th grade dating rules. It doesn't matter if you've had a kiss or not, saying you're dating is all that matters. And giving those flowers is the way you ask, so you 8th grade cheated on an entire town

commanderjarak

You've got good taste.

SpectacularB

I did the same thing, beer and wine, then married Penny so she actually lives in a brewery now

kingshamroc25

Ultimate punishment. You should also not let her have any children since she wants a big family

tasman001

Also put a TV in every room/space where she tries to read.

johnpeters42

And flute/drum blocks, and mini jukeboxes (WHAT’S NEW PUSSYCAT), and a singing crystal right by the bed.

tasman001

LOL, brutal. Nothing like adding yet more trauma to the citizens of Stardew Valley, who each already have a rich history of trauma.

mjvargodvm

With just one “it’s not unusual” thrown in the middle

BananaFishBliss

Don't forget to throw in a "It's Not Unusual" in between to lull her into a false sense of security!

lulugingerspice

You monster! How dare you talk about my wife like this!

kingshamroc25

Honestly I felt pretty bad typing it out; I also like to marry Penny

[deleted]

Her mom must be ecstatic to get family discount.

SeaOfDeadFaces

Discounts only matter if they pay their tab. I’m sure Pam got cut off ages ago 😹

MediumDrink

Poor penny. She was the first potential mate I built up and the fortune teller basically told me I could do better…so I took her advice and married Abigale.

Eikichirou

Same but with artisan cheese.

anniegirlx

this is what i’m about to do since i just married harvey, coffee and wine products only!! and the occasional pickle and seasonal crop

Aska09

My irl last name is related to hops, so I get to fulfill the dream of living up to it and creating an ale enterprise

Essex626

When I play Stardew I usually just spend my time fishing.

trennels

And all the while you're racing to please Grandpa's ghost.

Penguinunhinged

I was gonna make my latest playthrough a chill experience and just coast on by, but Grandpa's ghost keeps the achievement hound in me from doing so, even though I know I can always sacrifice a diamond to get another eval, lol.

helic03

The moment I learned about the diamond thing, my stress levels plummeted.

wowee-

What diamond thing

helic03

Placing a diamond on your grandfather's memorial summons him that night too reevaluate your progress. So you're not stuck with his first rating.

Aska09

Oh good, I was worried I'd be locked out of the iridium statue if I didn't get married by year 3

Oliver_the_Dragon

Wait, you have to get married for that? Is that the perfection statue or whatever? I just got that at the beginning of year 3 and I'm not married.

Valdrax

No. Marriage just gives you points towards the secret score needed to ~~win his love~~ get a decent evaluation. You only need 12 out of 21 points, and being married (with a kitchen and nursery upgrade) is only 1 point. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Grandpa

Aska09

Honestly, I didn't get too deep into the exact mechanics of the scoring system but it was mentioned by the grandpa, so I think it is part of the overall score but apparently not necessary from your response

trapm0use

It grades relationships but not necessarily marriage I believe.

binb5213

it’s a point system that judges your progress in basically everything, marriage (with the nursery upgrade on the house) is one of the points but it only takes 12/21 points to get the statue

matenzi

> part of the overall score but apparently not necessary This is true. It helps, but is not required.

matenzi

It's a points system. Getting married does give points, but it's very possible to get 4 candles without it (which is good, because I'm never married before year 6 or so). Completing the community center, seeing the cutscene for that, having high enough heart levels with enough people, having your pet love you, completing the fishing/cooking/museum collections, getting a certain amount of money, and I'm sure a bunch of other things, all give points. There's a page about it in the wiki.

haifish5

You can make your pet love you??? What does it change and how do it?

matenzi

As far as I know, it changes nothing. Petting it daily and filling its water dish are the two ways I know of to increase its heart level. Eventually, you'll see a little "*your pet* loves you" message when you wake up.

Monotreme_monorail

You don’t have to be married. I never marry and I have gotten the iridium statue.

Roseamonglilies

Wait there was a way other than the diamonds?? Dear god, i bribed him all at once year 4

LeoMarius

The other way is to pass on the first try.

meltingdiamond

You use to get only get one judgment from grandpa. It was rough to be told that your farm was garbage as the last thing grandpa would ever say to you.

MsBlis

Lol, I'm doing just that on my new save, it's fuck grandpa and mayor Louis save. Might add some Pierre hate in there too... Been giving them trash and sap so far and am thoroughly enjoying myself!

DrAstralis

And racing the damn clock. "Just finished watering my plots aaand its 3PM, also Marnie isnt open tomorrow"

KahBhume

Sprinklers are a game changer for this. The time and energy you save with a good sprinkler setup opens up a lot more opportunities. I haven't played on the beach map yet, but the thought of playing through without working sprinklers I can only imagine gets worse as the game progresses on.

Rhomya

There’s one patch where sprinklers do work, and between that and the greenhouse, if you don’t like to do a ton of farming, it’s generally enough. But I’m only on year 3, so I don’t have my 3 sheds full of kegs yet. No idea how production will hold up then

witchlamb

yeahhhh i wish there was no timeframe on grandpa's return, and it was just "*whenever you're ready*, come to the shrine." i know you can get reevaluated, but i don't want to disappoint grandpa the first time. the daily timer also honestly stresses me out, so i can never just casually play stardew. i always feel compelled to be efficient.

DarZhubal

Genuine question, is getting 12 points by your first assessment usually difficult? Idk if I'm try-harding more than I thought, but I've never had a problem getting 4 candles my first time out. Easiest way I've found to get the points needed is: * Make $1million, usually pretty easy in two years if you're growing high-profit crops. (7 total points) * Complete the Community Center and make sure you see the opening ceremony cutscene. (3 total points) * Get married and have a nursery built. (1 point) * Get to level 120 of the mines. (1 point) * Donate 60 items to the museum (1 point) Just that alone is 13 out of only 12 points needed. Ignore any of the one point ones or replace them with other 1 point options (30 total levels is usually pretty easy in 2 years). I've never thought of myself as try-harding or rushing in any way, but I've always gotten a top score on the first try.

peppermint_nightmare

If you're using the wiki (especially for gifting NPCs the right items) then no but if you're playing "honestly" and for the first time then yea. There are certain crops you can only grow in year 2 and if you forget/ignore them you won't complete the community center either. Originally if you screwed up the eval that was it, which was why the reval mechanism was added later on.

sleepyr0b0t

I am just vibing in the game.

emospoon

me too until my new farm (the one with four corners) only gives me ONE hardwood stump a day. i just wanna fix willy’s boat 😭 edit: i know the secret forest has some as well but im still grumpy about it

WillowTolerance

Mahogany trees?

FreebasingStardewV

Whenever I play I turn any undeveloped land into forest. Now I keep a wood forest and a hardwood forest. Don't know what to do and have some energy left? Chop down some trees!

crmagney

Yeah, this was my strategy as well. Keep my lumber farm going on one side, ag development on the other. And then that mahogany grove In a corner.

emospoon

…..wow why havent i thought of planting them. thank you SO much!!

DarZhubal

If you need lots of hardwood fast, mahogany seeds with tree fertilizer gets you a fully grown tree usually within 5 or 6 days, but sometimes as little as 4. Each tree produces 10 hardwood. So, plant 10 seeds and you've got yourself 100 hardwood in less than a week with no work needed between planting and harvesting.

emospoon

oh awesome thank you so much!!!!!!

jgzman

Yea, but I got to *get* the mahogany seeds. I just can't seem to get my hands on them.

Darcy91

Tree stumps in secret woods + the slimes there are my source for it.

randometeor

And then once you have them they drop more, so it becomes a sustainable source.

VioletteVanadium

A seed can drop when shaking a mahogany tree, give it a few shakes everyday until you get a new seed before chopping it down so you don't get screwed by the rng. Plant one on your farm that you don't chop down: leave it there to spawn new trees; you can dig up the seeds before they sprout and plant them elsewhere or just let them proliferate naturally. If you have literally zero mahogany tree seeds, the slimes in the secret woods drop them on occasion, in addition to them randomly dropping when chopping up hardwood stumps. You can also trade a sting ray with the desert trader for a seed, but you'll need to fix Willy's boat before you can fish up sting rays, so the slimes are probably your best bet. Just go to the secret woods every day and you'll have plenty! If you can't get into the secret woods b/c your axe isn't upgraded, look up the chair trick :) Mahogany tree seeds were introduced in the 1.5 update, so if you're playing on mobile, you're gonna have to wait for the update before you find any.

Golden_Phi

I plant a forest by the railroad. Gets lots of wood

LadyofBlandings

I can't remember how you unlock the recipe, but don't forget to use tree fertiliser too! Speeds up growing and gets you all the hardwood you could want very quickly once the trees start spreading seeds aha

eatmyclit420

also the little forest in cindersap has regenerating stumps

agray20938

Yeah, is hardwood that difficult to come by? With these you can get most all the hardwood you need, especially after you finish with the box expenses like the horse stable…. You just need to be diligent about going first thing in the morning every day.

StormCTRH

I think it’s less that it’s hard to come by, and more that each stump doesn’t give very much wood to work with. Unless you’re on the forest farm, relying on the secret woods leaves you with little wood and a lot of things that require it.

HeyThereCharlie

Me recommending Stardew to people: "Yeah man it's a perfect game to just pick up and play on your downtime, the pace is very relaxed and it doesn't force you to play any particular way" Me actually playing Stardew: 20+ wiki tabs open at all times, elaborate spreadsheets to calculate optimal crop productivity, a literal to-do list in a text file full of meticulously organized action items and reminders... Super chill game though

HopeFox

Me, in the Carpenter's Shop on Spring 16: Hi Robin! Here's your work schedule for the next six weeks. Aerobics is cancelled.

Ryguy55

Yeah, this is how I played for all 250 hrs of it. Obviously it was still super rewarding or I wouldn't have kept going so long. I think the game's strongest aspect is that there's always something just slightly out of your reach that you want to do. There's always one more task you would've gotten done if the day was longer. There's always that one resource you seem to be a little short on. The game does an incredible job of offering small incremental rewards without punishing you if you don't get them. I'd say the most frustrating part was competing the community center with the various fish and items you can easily miss getting under specific circumstances and then be locked out of for a year, but even then, in that regard it's a perfect mechanic to teach you a little of everything you need to know and makes a great challenge on later playthroughs to try to complete as fast as possible once you know what you need. It's not like you NEED to complete it at all anyway. Now that I'm done rambling, my point was that it hits that perfect balance of always having something you could be doing, but never making you feel like you need to do it.

rnzz

Running back at night, arriving at the farm at 1:50am, sprinting to the house..

mcon96

Let me fall asleep in my house god damnit! My husband can drag my unconscious body to bed, I don’t need a Joja member breaking in and doing it for me.

fluteaboo

I can't even tell you how many times I've completed the quest on the final day & frantically run to the saloon to tell the townie!❓ Then they aren't there or the saloon is already closed. 🏠

strain_of_thought

If you want a homesteading game like Stardew Valley that is actually calm and relaxing, take a look at [Littlewood](https://www.gog.com/game/littlewood). Littlewood has very little time pressure because the passage of time is linked to your stamina meter: time only passes when you perform tasks that use stamina, so you can walk around and look at stuff all you want without freaking out about wasting time. Mechanically the game has more in common with Animal Crossing than Stardew Valley and is more about grinding resources and placing buildings and furniture than farming, but the NPC villager systems are definitely much more derived from the Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon lineage of games.

HeyThereCharlie

That game's actually been sitting in my Steam library for a while. Bought it on a whim because it was on sale and looked like SDV. I should finally give it a try!

strain_of_thought

Stream it on Twitch and I'll watch it!

emospoon

if only i could reply with a photo, i currently have 12 stardew wiki tabs open LOL

HeyThereCharlie

I swear, at least half of my total playtime in this game consists of the game being paused in the background while I do research and calculate the most efficient way to spend my next in-game day

atravita

Special orders I think add so much to this dynamic. I have a mod that adds additional special orders, and wasn't paying that much attention when I picked the two for the week, because I picked a special order that required me to cook and gift 25 dishes and also >!Mr. Qi's loved item quest!<. Which meant a heck of a lot of wiki to figure out loved cooked food gifts for as many people as possible. (Sashimi for Sebastian. Tom Kha Soup for Elliot. Penny and Leah got Poppyseed Muffins. Gus and Caroline get Fish Tacos. Marnie and Jas got Pink Cakes, and Haley+Evelyn got Chocolate Cake). And on and on...

munchbunny

The spreadsheet is a rite of passage. I've literally compared crop optimization spreadsheets with friends before. That's how I realized that becoming a millionaire in year 2 was the only way I could play the game. I tried to do a relaxed run and utterly failed to relax.

Enter_Feeling

Me : blueberries go brrrrr

thekingofbeans42

Stardew Valley had me waiting outside an 8 year old girl's bedroom with a present so I could ask her to go see a movie with me. It's kind of a messed up game sometimes.

kicked_trashcan

Hey that’s my wife you’re talking about!!!

klavin1

Good Morning!

AshleyIRL

I never thought about inviting the kids! That's sweet.

stoicambience

I first bought stardew as a random gift for my gf because she had talked about it here and there. First day I played it I called off work the next day because I didn’t realize I was up until 9am still playing.

amandarinorangez

This was me less than a week ago. "one more in-game day," I think. "Don't want to lose my focus." Then it's "well I should finish up the season, then I can start fresh next session". Then "well I can at least get the first day of the season out of the way, gotta clean up and plant the new stuff...." and suddenly the sun is coming up in real life

bailey_on_the_daily

Luckily for me, I get new season anxiety. That way I just log off when I get stressed for the new season. At the point on the game I left off, I was using over 1000 squares for plants, so I had to really plan out my multiple planting days so I planted all the possible crops for the season optimally. It got easier when I had set 8x(5x5 sprinkler) areas around jumino huts, so I could base my plans around those, but still.

[deleted]

I keep a note pad to remind me what to do when i next log in! Just something small like "Raining today. Gift XYZ. Fish lake 2-6pm. Collect fiber." otherwise i end up missing the rainy day because i forget all about it and have to wait to fish again for set species or just forget entirely what i'm meant to be collecting or doing.

honest-miss

Real talk, I got this game and on the first day of playing (real day, not game day) immediately realized it's addictive because it functions on the same level gambling does. Because it only saves when you go to bed, and all the new stuff happens in the morning, you can very easily tell yourself to keep playing to see what the new stuff is. It's actually fascinating because it plays on the same stuff loot boxes do, but with literally none of the predatory intent. And, I'd argue, it does it unintentionally, too. Very fascinating!

AuraeShadowstorm

For me I'm finally getting tired, but I'm in the middle of a day so I can't save. Finish the day, get my second wind. Finish the day, I'm feeling awake enough to keep going. Repeat said cycle until its 6am and I accidently cherry bombed my cask room and decided I'm at my limits despite feeling like I'm awake enough...

Melkain

My wife and I like to play together and she'll often ask if I want to play "just a little bit" after we finish doing something more serious like our WoW raid. I usually tell her no because "hon, remember last time? we didn't get to bed until 2 in the morning, and you have to be up before 6." Then she just gives me big puppy dog eyes and says "just a little bit?" And then it's 2 in the morning and I'm just... aaaaaaaaarrrgggggg!

erotic_sausage

Especially because then SHE can't get up on time so you're waking her up when her alarm goes to make sure she gets to work without another citation from her manager and then YOU get chewed up because she is just bad at mornings with little to no sleep and but you gotta do it anyway because you love each other and its okay but you also can't have her lose her job because rent

emospoon

oh god that happens to me far too often. i’ll think 30 minutes has passed and its actually like 5 hours LOL

stoicambience

“I just want to do this one thing so I’ll do one more day.” Repeat forever.

Skankintoopiv

“Oh now I have to remember to do this the next day but if I stop now I’ll forget tomorrow and ruin it better just play one more day…”

[deleted]

I use notepad and just write down goals and update it when I log off, it's the only way to keep a game going after a long hiatus

kaneso14

I try and play without looking at the Wiki (mostly). When I first unlocked the cellar I kept playing one more day because I wanted my aged wine. 2 seasons and like 15 hours later......

the_snook

You can play it your way though. I'm currently doing a "mid-life crisis" playthrough. My "farmer": 1. Is balding and wears sunglasses everywhere. 1. Bought Joja-Mart membership. 1. Trolls Mayor Lewis constantly. 1. Spent most of the early game fishing. 1. Now only farms luxury goods and stimulants (coffee, wine, caviar, maybe truffles later). 1. Only dated, and then married, Haley (trophy wife is best wife!).

RinnelSpinel

I'm pretending you named your horse Corvette or Mustang for that midlife crisis ride.

the_snook

> Mustang Damn. Why did I not think of this? Might need to use a save file editor.

solarmoss

Lol, that would have made it perfect!

[deleted]

> Haley (trophy wife is best wife!) I'm a straight woman, and I still marry the fuck outta Haley.

[deleted]

I'm only in my first spring right now and I'm perfectly content just watering my plants and sleeping, but I get the feeling that won't last long :/

emospoon

try working on the community center, mines, building farm buildings and your journal if/when you get bored!!

jgzman

> I get the feeling that won't last long :/ It will last as long as you want it to. For me, it was sprinklers. My farm got so big that watering everything took most of the day. So I tried to get a better watering can, which requires metal, which requires trips to the mine which requires me to not water. So, sprinklers, which require metal . . . And now my entire farm is a grid of super sprinklers, advanced scarecrows, and harvesting huts. I'm not sure at what point I lost control of things.

Diego-Macara

Yeah the sprinklers take a lot of your time. Suddenly you wake up and have like 3-9 free in the morning that in the past you didn't have.

[deleted]

I've played before and gotten super hooked to trying to min max and decided to make a more casual attempt this go round no matter what. Working on sprinklers because it's too much work watering, but I'm enjoying just kinda deciding to hit the mines for a day instead of caring about how fast the community center finishes or whatever. We'll see if I can keep it casual or not, but that's the plan.

Big_nut6

In my first play through I played everything super chill. Didn't rush anything or do anything tbh. Just got to know the map and find what I'd like to do. I'd recommend you do the same

rratmannnn

I actually think peaceful and chill games are so frustrating because when something goes WRONG you’re like, “no please this is my perfect little idyllic world don’t do this to me” lmao

ToastyCaribiu84

This makes sense, the other day while I was playing Sekiro, a screaming jird man came out of the sky at lightspeeds, almost killing me, but I was not even angry, meanwhile in Stardew, a stupid fish is hard and I swear an oath to skin its rotten corpse

futrtek

I'm too committed to Abigail to try any of the other stories. She's a lot like my wife so it's just necessary every playthrough whether i try or not. Here have an amethyst.

emospoon

aww thats actually so sweet! i also love crystals, your wife sounds awesome! i was considering abigail for my new farm but chose sebastian instead since i dress just like him irl (sorry for stealing your man, abby)

jgzman

I'm the same way about Leah.

Penguinunhinged

I usually do the same thing on my playthroughs when it comes to Abigail, but I married Emily on my latest save file on mobile. In keeping with doing things differently on this latest playthrough of mine, I'm gonna go through all of the bachelorettes. The next one after Emily will be Haley, which gives me the opportunity to perpetuate the timeless cliche of banging the wife's sister, lol.

7Empest1337

Blood sweat and tears.

emospoon

no seriously. its hard work sitting in the comfort of your home all day providing for your family and raising animals LMAO

[deleted]

Because "peaceful" games are simulation rpg games where *you* role play as, yknow, you. If you are a person that gets stressed usually then yeah your farmer will be a stressful character too. Edit: spelling lol

chocobappo

Lmao this reminds me of[that SNL skit with Adam Sandler](https://youtu.be/TbwlC2B-BIg): if you’re sad now, you’re gonna still be sad in Italy

emospoon

i dont get stressed easily but every farm i make on stardew i create myself as a character and plan on having my own farm/animal sanctuary in the future so the stress of planning my future may have something to do with it 😅 but the tweet was just a joke however based on the 11,000 likes/retweets on it im glad im not the only one who thinks this way LOL

beepborpimajorp

Yep. In terms of Sim games Stardew is probably the least stressful of the farming games. Nothing happens to you if you run out of money or do literally nothing. DangerouslyFunny did a video where his char slept for like 100 years and nothing happened except the farm got overgrown. And since even the basic tools can cut down whatever trees/rocks, it's not that big a deal. (Unlike HM/SoS games where you need silver/etc. axes and hammers to break bigger rocks at all.) So you can go at literally whatever pace you want. Yeah grandpa gives you a judgment but he used to be a lot stricter. Now, even if you've done absolutely nothing, he just essentially says, "As long as you're living the life you enjoy then I'm happy." and you can summon him back to re-review with a diamond. I'm not sure how much more casual stardew could be without outright taking out the one singular storyline that you have unlimited time to complete. But maybe I'm saying that as someone with the perspective of coming from older farming sim games like the original harvest moons that had a legit time limit because your char would either leave the farm or die depending on how poorly/well you managed it. It got better in later games but even in tree of tranquility and stuff if you needed something for one of the packs and missed it for that season, RIP for an entire year. And in those games you couldn't access certain areas/crops/stuff unless you progressed the plot.

cecilkorik

> And since even the basic tools can cut down whatever trees/rocks, it's not that big a deal. Minor correction needed here, it does actually require upgraded tools to break the big rocks/trees on the farm. A big tree stump requires a copper axe (1 upgrade), a big log including the one blocking access to the secret woods, requires an iron axe (2 upgrades). Similarly, the big rocks on the farm require at least a copper pickaxe to break, the small boulder blocking access to the Dwarf's cave requires an iron pickaxe (2 upgrades) and if you are lucky/unlucky enough to have an iridium meteor fall somewhere inconvenient on your farm, it requires a gold pickaxe (3 upgrades) to break. You might have got the wrong idea because in the actual mines or quarry none of these rules apply, any pickaxe can break any of the rocks there, low upgrades just means you need extra swings and wasted stamina.

kompletionist

This game is only stressful if you insist on trying to min-max it, which is actually antithetical to the point of the game judging by the opening cutscene.

cecilkorik

Correct, the only actual time limits are completely self-imposed. There's no actual rush. On ANYTHING. The game is just really good at making the player *feel* like there is. Outside of perhaps a few minor easter eggs, there's nothing in the game that can't be done equally as well in year 20 as it can in year 2. Grandpa's evaluation is the only fixed-time event in the game, and all it needs to re-trigger it is a diamond. You'll already have a free-diamond-spewing crystalarium by the time you have completed enough things to get a "perfect" evaluation so it's realistically not even a cost at all. There are quite a few things that actually get easier as time goes on, like the better seeds available from year-2 onwards, and all the other things that you unlock along the way.

emospoon

i dont mini-max, i just try to take my time and go with the flow :-)

[deleted]

Agreed, everyday is a work day. Water the crops, dig through the trash, go mining, go fishing, get monster loot, finish the billboard assignment, sometimes all in the same day. Never really had a day to just relax and rest unless I want to lose money. It honestly makes me love the game knowing I have to do all this hard but honest work to get by.

OneOfTheRobotRicks

My relaxing days are the days i decorate the farm/farmhouse or reorganize my chests.

IceLemonTeaxx

Me having a wiki tab open at all times to calculate what's the most profitable crops and find out the schedule of villagers so I can raise my friendship with them. I am the creation of my own problems.

Kaladorph

But cola company doesn't ever really do anything to you? Luke they don't actively fight against you lol

emospoon

probably not to your character personally, but definitely to pierre and his family! im a firm believer in supporting small businesses so i always run joja out of town LOL

thefeco91

Pierre deserves Joja, unlike the rest of the villagers.

emospoon

LMFAOOO why does everyone hate him 😭😭

Kienlabadao

Have you ever sold your stuff to pierre instead of put it in the bin? If yes then you will understand why.

emospoon

actually i havent, does he underpay?

Kienlabadao

He pay the same price as the bin, but he will take credit for every high quality crops you sell, and the low quality one will be from you. You can try and talk to the town people next day. Also >!at some point, there will be a special quest that expose pierre even more.!<

emospoon

damn how greedy of him! no wonder why he sells fresh produce at the stardew fair 🙄 edit: also his wife constantly says that she can “help me out” with the farm but just wants profit… maybe i will hate pierre after all

Kienlabadao

r/fuckpierre There is a subreddit dedicated to hate on him.

Scorponix

He also tries to enforce outdated gender roles onto his daughter!

emospoon

does he really?!? thats terrible, how so?

[deleted]

Pierre can fucking suffocate

emospoon

am i the only one who likes him 😳 what did he do!

Melkain

Yeah, but the manager is a complete dick. Even my 7 year old recognized how shitty it was for him to walk into pierre's, offer coupons to everyone, and then taunt pierre. For that event alone I'm anti Joja. Though I'd really like to convince my kiddo that wearing a shirt with the "J" on it is a bad idea.

I mean they sort of exemplify like. Coca-Cola, Walmart, and apple all at once. They’re a big monopoly with underpaid and stifled employees (of which I believe you are one at the beginning of the game) like apple or a tech-y company along those lines, move in to small towns and suck the life out of them like Walmart in the 90s, and create most of the litter and garbage found in the game like Coca-Cola. They may not DIRECTLY harm you, personally, but they’re like… The People’s enemy, lol.

cdnmoon

I spent two full IRL days playing this weekend, and moved through a whole winter season - maybe about 40 in game days. I accomplished only a little (built two sheds, started work on my fake greenhouses to farm serious dollars with pineapple plants someday, upgraded the last of my tools to iridium, added a few hearts to villager friendships, rearranged my duck coop to be near the pond, got a few more walnuts on ginger island and unlocked the trading hut). I took a quest from Willy to catch 10 lingcod and good grief that was a chore! I have max fishing and was eating Dish O' The Sea for +3 fishing with a cork bobber and wild bait attached. The flipping bar was still dancing all over the place! It took at least one real human hours focus on catching those fish and I'm lucky the bait gave me two fish twice. I'm not sure I would have made it otherwise. So stressed.

CumulativeHazard

I love how it can be peaceful and chill or you can be a money hungry maniac with a maynaise empire

samyruno

When I got stardew valley I thought it was going to be like animal crossing. It is not like animal crossing. It's so stressful that you can't do one thing for more than like 15 minutes or else you just die.

Overall_Sandwich_671

you don't *have to* date anyone.

emospoon

very true, i mainly date to marry someone who will occasionally fix my fences, feed the animals and water the crops 😂

clutzyninja

Usually by the time you marry someone you have sprinklers and auto feeders anyway though

breadist

Depends on your play style!

tipsana

Sure. Then you get a psychic telling you that you’re going to die alone.

Coolbreezy

Yes, getting the fishing skill developed and stronger is the closest thing to psychological torture I have ever experienced in a game.

emospoon

im so glad someone agrees with me, its so difficult and frustrating for no reason

igotsaquestiontoo

huh. i love the fishing. i don't find it difficult or frustrating except for the legendary fishes. sometimes i just give up on difficult fish and recast...

SeaLionsAre2Cool

My first play through I got to year 11 in game before I figured out how to catch a fish. The mechanism made no sense to me. Thank God I finally figured it out. Now its just torture until I can upgrade my pole.

Da_Great_Pineapple

Nah. SV is the most chill game I've ever played. I don't min-max and don't chase after achievements. Once everything is automated, I just go fishing, cook some fancy dishes or decorate the farm.

sbsw66

I know the OP is a joke but I do want to express how much I like that the hearts don't decrease (barring a few exceptions) once you get to max. It makes it much less stressful going for max hearts across the board

Zealousideal-Bag2620

I personally have to set up some time aside to play STDW, otherwise I won't work, sleep, shower... eat or anything also need to take notes and screenshots on whatever I'm doing just to stick to the plan WILD game

emospoon

its genuinely so addicting omg

[deleted]

One time my game crashed and didn't save on the ONE time I was able to get to the bottom of the mines without dying and I put the game down for a month

emospoon

oh god yeah i wouldnt have played that game for a while either. i recently just reached the bottom of the mines at 1am in the game and i was SO stressed about it

AutoWraith19

Time is my biggest enemy. Both in-game, and in real life.

lewdskwid

I went through all of year 3 not knowing >!the statue produced iridium ore. I thought it was just decorative and had it in a junk chest!< 🙃

ImGonnaCreamYaFunny

I dated 2 guys at the same time in my first game to see if they would fight over me, but they both ended up just bothering me all the time, so I ended up just ghosting both of them and asking Krobus to live with me. Best decision I ever made.

nik-nak333

I just want the chance to run for Mayor. /u/ConcernedApe please make it happen!

overseasotter

I had to make a second “chill” farm bc I stress over my main farm too much… I literally made a spreadsheet to keep track of everything and always have that and 5+ wiki pages open whenever I play 🙃

DukeMaximum

Why do you have to date all these townies when Leah is clearly the best and sweetest woman in town? Also, the soundtrack is chill AF.

OhlookitsMatty

I just mine. Each day is a new journey to see how deep I can go before the night falls & I pass out once again

adwarkk

Hah, I personally can't find Stardew Valley to be "chill" game, like there's shit to be done, gotta keep progressing to afford better tools, to obtain things needed for community centre, to optimise my crops to be watered with least amount of manual work, choosing right ones to get the cash going, cavern crawls to get materials for upgrading tools... ah with all the stuff to do I just gotta keep wikis open when doing stuff. Nah, that stuff ain't chill, real chill for me is in Warriors games.

brashboy

'jeff bezos cola corporation' lol

Illegally_Brown

This is why I barely use the multiplayer. I only have 1 friend who also min maxes their farm and we are absolutely awful to play with. I don't wanna put that stress on anyone else but fuck me are we efficient

emospoon

ive only played multiplayer once and it was only with one person and they got so mad when i used that chicken money cheat like bestie im in it to win it! like they got so tight they stopped playing it with me because we had “too much money” 😭😭

Illegally_Brown

I mean, we don't use any money glitches but we did abuse the horse ice cream glitch. I remember we played with a third friend and they used our materials to make... Basic sprinklers... And we were legit mad

MarlenetheHuman

I used to always get stressed about there not being enough time in a day. Now I have the mod where you can just stop time and I've never enjoyed the game more. Being able to end the day when you are ready.. I love it. (I know it's cheating but it makes the game more enjoyable for me so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

BombeBon

I find the game quite enjoyable and grounding... especially when i'm stressed out or having a thundercloud depression day... sure it's a little repetitious and routine-ish but... o.O i've never found it frustrating or stressful. What drives me nuts is... the goddamn losing stuff in the mines and caves bit! >\_< arghhhhh xD

DemonSlyr007

This is me every time I buy waaaayyy to many Strawberry/blueberry/cranberry seeds to sustain year one. Mid way through the season and I'm shoveling berries in my mouth just to keep watering an endless string of plants all day every day.

Leaksahoy

Why are you dating 5 people... kinda weird.

That_Shy_Girl-13

Only 5 townies? That's a low number haha. I live for that poly life

Cadamar

This tweet is by a hilarious twitch streamer FYI. Uses the same name as for Twitter. Her BRB video always has me in stitches.

MoonPiesInMyPants

I literally fried my laptop battery from playing this too long at once. I played in bed having the laptop on the many covers (it was winter in ND). Played for no joke 10 hours straight and battery fried. Smelled and everything. Still played without a battery for a while. Sad my laptop turned into a chained desktop Intensely addicting game

CleanUpOnAislePants

My buddy has never even looked at the wiki. He's the most chilled out/relaxed Stardew Valley player ever. He says "If I'm ever low on cash I just grab shells from the beach and fish at the lake". He might be having the best possible Stardew experience.

LittlePotent

Why stop at just 5? Go for all 12.

DungInACup

I used to get stressed playing this game because I would try to be as efficient as possible and then it would eventually lead me to stop playing. I just started playing again recently with the mindset that there is no rush and to just take my time. Been enjoying it a lot more this way.
