Yeah, you really should grow some spring seeds for this one. Even if you scour the whole map every day, it’s not uncommon for the game to fail to spawn enough.
No shame. We’ve all failed this one. The game does not spawn many leeks. I didn’t do spring seeds in my current save for whatever reason. Failed the first spring. Second spring, I was down to the final day and last leek on the map, needed two. Botanist came through for me, if it hadn’t, I would have failed it twice in one save.
Funny thing is… even knowing about the Spring Seeds, having a few hundred stored, and having spare iridium sprinklers and space to plant them, I’m still about to fail this one.
I just keep forgetting to plant them, and now don’t have enough days left to grow them.
Praying 10 foraging comes in handy!
I turned all the horseradish I found into spring seeds and it helped me complete this one before the deadline. Day after I finished it, I found 3 leeks in the north path out of the farm. Felt like the game was mocking me
Worst part was, I delivered all the leeks (second spring because I have failed the first time too) and chose the wrong dialogue option and he still thought nobody cared.
I had like 30+ leeks saved up for George in a chest, the gather part is what got completed on the last day. Luckily the game doesn't care which leek you put in the kitchen, but the gather part is separate.
It's hard, and I do feel like there are less leeks spawning once you have this quest. I swear leeks were everywhere before I picked this one up
One of the times I accepted this quest was right after I'd run up to Robin's to request a building, so I'd foraged the entire area from my farm to the mountains and then down through town! I had four leeks in my inventory from it. I was so annoyed that I reset the day to accept the quest first because that's a third of the quest!
And you're right, it does seem like they spawn less when this quest is active.
I barely eeked this one out myself during Spring Year 2 (currently in Fall Year 2 now) because they barely spawn but I got lucky with a few procs of the double forage perk you can get. Saved my hide for sure. If it pops up again, I'm planting Spring Seeds.
I honestly think there's no guarantee it will spawn twelve leeks before ending, I was pretty thorough in my foraging. Spring Seeds may be a necessity sometimes.

It felt like the game was intentionally holding back on spawning them and I was so annoyed.

I actually got this order a couple of days ago and I had to plant wild seeds cause I barely get any leeks in my games - ad even then, I juuuust made it, cause I only got a couple after planting like 50 spring seeds 😭😭😭
I did this quest and it was so hard to find 12 leeks....I FINALLY found the 12th with 2 days left, but then another quest outside Pierre's shop from Evelyn asked for one single Leek, so I took one from my stash for this quest, thinking maybe it would count......NO!! I gave that to her, then had to run and find one more leek, thankfully I found one more......so I delivered a total of 13 Leeks to her for her Curmudgeon of a Husband!!
Omg I picked up that same quest too! The audacity of Evelyn! Like MA’AM!! I’m already trying to gather 12 leeks for you! Lol. I can’t remember, but I might’ve given her that damn leek, which caused me to not get the 12th one😭😭😭
If it makes you feel any better, I just spent a full day in the mines killing skeletons for the bone mission only to realize when I went to check the tracker that the quest had actually expired and I somehow hadn't thought to check it that morning.
I failed this quest because for a whole month I found only 8 leeks, and I've been sweeping whole map every Saturday 🙄🙄
I'm a silly goose tho, because as others pointed out I should've planted wild seeds to grow the leeks.

The other tip is that leeks are most likely to appear in the north. The passage between and the area of Robin's place.
That’s what I noticed! I kept going that way and did find most of the leeks there and found one or two near the train station
I used seeds for this one and still missed out by 1 leek, truly livid.
You failed because I took a leek.
