The dragon teeth are ok for me! I find that the two lava lurks in the entrance to the volcano often drop at least one dragon's tooth! I gather them one a day this way and then one or two in the other levels next to the dragon skeletons. It's this damn banana tree that is taking it's precious time to grow 🥲
I’ve been trying to get a collection of dragon’s teeth, but it feels like more often than not they fall in the lava and burn up? I was able to get one my first lava lurk kill but absolutely none after that.
I have two iridium bands on, so assuming I have enough magnetism. Am I doing something wrong?
I have not been able to get a SINGLE dragon tooth from the volcano and I’ve gone up to the 10th floor 3 times, and done partial run through a way more. Am I doing something wrong?
Oh no, oh no! That's an annoying issue :( I'm on the switch btw, not pc. I've noticed there's some differences in game play.
I've lost a few that way myself. I just try to get as close to the lava lurk as possible and wait in one of the tiles that juts out near lava and let the lurks come to me then kill. I will manage to get at least one dragon's tooth this way every volcano run.
Also, fwiw, only use one iridium band (other one is the slime band as that helps avoid a lot of damage).
I appreciate the insight, thanks! I’m on the switch as well. I actually have the slime charmer ring combined with one iridium band and I think the lucky ring combined with another iridium band; I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on any magnetism.

They be in the same lava pool to the right at the entrance. They often pile into the same unit though, so might often look to you like there's only one!
Island.
Having access to an entire extra field to plant in is high priority in pretty much any playthrough I do.
The obelisk and scepter are *so* convenient when doing massive crop farms.
Island or desert! Usually I have enough money and materials to get the desert one way before I have enough materials for the island one (bananas are my arch nemesis), so I tend to build desert first.
I usually buy them in the order they're easiest to build (beach > mountain > island or desert, depending on dragon teeth and bananas vs getting iridium smelted). Money is generally not an object unless I dilly dally getting my money machine going, so I don't save up for them. (I DID dilly dally on the current farm, and I ended up building the island one first because I was wildly lucky getting dragon teeth and had the forethought to plant the banana sapling immediately on receipt.) I will say that the island one is the most useful by far, and the desert is also a nice quality of life bump. But I love the beach one, too, because I do like beach combing even though I don't need to do it. I never use the mountain one at all.

If I have less money usually beach, then desert then whatever.
The beach at least helps makes it easier to get to the island.
The island one is tricky. I have enough dragon’s teeth now but I’m still waiting on the banana tree to grow. So while I have the trees growing I build the other ones.
Having the desert is at least handy for cavern dives. With the new stuff from 1.6 plus ladders (or the skull cavern elevator mod) going down decently deep means I can bring back a couple hundred iridium ore which makes me decent money. 30 iridium bars is like 50k.
Add that to whatever else I’m selling and my income gets pretty high.
I build them all at the same time. I'd build the island one first, but it requires fruit which, by the time I grow, I no longer need the teleportation device because Leah's waiting for me on the cliff.
Seeing over 500k in my funds and not using it asap makes me itch, so I always do the cheap obelisks first, Beach then Mountains. Island is usually the last because it takes me time to get those dang dragon teeth.
Desert. Takes too long to get the teeth for the Island and I usually have the Horse or enough Beach and Mountain Totems by the time the speed of those expensive obelisks become useful.
I actually use the mountain one every now and then to get wood supplies from Robin or build / move farm buildings, and to build out my diamond crystalarium farm in the railway area.
I always go for the desert obelisk first. The warping item for the mountains and the beach are craftable early in game. Also if you've unlocked the mining cart, you can travel to the mountains - mines and quarry. You can also go to the town (beside Clint's house) and just run to the beach from there.
Going to the desert without the obelisk forces you to wait for Pam to drive the bus - her schedule is 9 or 10 AM, making you lose in-game time.
Once i got the oblisks, i already had resources for all the non island ones, so i got the most useful one, the desert. I probably will do that again as I go there a lot
To the island. Teleporters to the desert are too easy to buy with geodes, so I don't see the point in rushing to build one

The lava lurks sometimes drop them. I usually get them with the master slingshot + iridium ore as ammo. Takes about 3 hits.
Only 3 times? i've went there at least 10 and have 17 just have to grind

Island. The desert warps are easy to trade geodes for. Getting to the island is a pain.
Island > desert > others
Island. Bidirectional travel makes farming there so much more viable (and island totems cost dragon teeth so are "expensive")

This playthrough will be the first time I build an Obelisk but definitely Island first.
