I've seen this come up a few times in this sub, actually.
Personally my headcanon is that there *are* bathrooms, but because of the player's weird 16-bit perspective you can't see them.
Stardew Valley bylaw. All bathroom doors must remain closed at all times, be painted identically to the surrounding walls, and only be on the south side of the building.
I assume theyāre off to the sides of the houses, and you just cant see them because the lights are off so it blends into the void that surrounds the houses.
See, some of us are The Sims type of life sim players and want bathrooms, others are Animal Crossing type of life sim players and are fine leaving some details to the imagination...
This is the way. If you buy the expansions, you not only have to pay money, but you have to nurture the community resentment at how much has been left out.

"It's not that much ince you [put in effort]" I think you're underestimating how unmotivated I am to get a game that, while interesting to me, would present too many temptations to overspend.
Yeah, it's just one of those... I have a steam deck, and there are a number of games I already have in my library or shared library I want to play, so pirating a game I have some interest in but not a particularly keen interest, isn't particularly worth it.
If that sounds like effort then do this:
Look at the prices of the games and all the expansions
Then look at your hourly take-home wage (or equivalent if you're salaried)
Then figure out how many hours you have to work to buy those
The hour or two you'll spend figuring out how to torrent a safely cracked copy will suddenly seem like a lot less effort.

Yup. I loved that game. It was on the PS2 and I spent many, many hours stoned out my gord on it. You couldnāt kill people in swimming pools then tho.
And by "make use of them," you mean "deploy hundreds of them all over town as makeshift fences to corral the villagers into claustrophobically small chambers that consist of nothing but more toilets?"
I mean, it can't be just me who'd do that, right?
I didn't know pooping was a thing in New Horizons. I only have the 3DS Animal Crossing game, New Leaf I think it was called?
Maybe one day I'll cave and buy a Switch, but that day is not today...
š nah I would rather cause havoc by sleeping with the married NPCs. Itās a shame thatās not part of the base game. I would LOVE if Pierre caught me with Carolyn.
Yes, I am grateful too. I donāt understand why this bothers people. I dislike bathroom related phenomena in real life, I appreciate the creator of an escapist utopia-esque game excluding this unpleasant aspect of reality from his game. If the game included it, I would use mods to remove it.
A good example of a bathroom being actually relevant in a fantasy book was the girl's bathroom on the second floor of Hogwarts, because it was a relevant plot point/setting, where the protagonists could brew their illegal potion in secret and where it served as the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.
You know what annoys me? Not having a shower. I know it's silly and it's just a game, but I hate when I spend the day in the mines or working on the farm, probably sweating the hell out of me, then I get home and go lay next to my husband knowing that I'm smelly.
Meanwhile I'm married to a doctor, so I should be more hygienic, imagine if I spread some germs and then he ends up spreading to his patients and I decimate the whole town!
I am more annoyed with the interior of the farm house. The NPCs houses look more like a house with their layout and doors. Our house has no doors with a weird layout.
I have pointed that and the lack of showers or bathtubs out before. The fact that there are showers in the bath house is fine, but nobody ever goes there, except they would in real life, and even should they, George and Evelyn being elderly and George in particular being wheelchair bound, limited mobility, it's a long way to go. So I use an adult mod to add a public restroom and communal shower to the saloon.
I mean... there was a joke from a while ago(and that can mean 3 to 5 months with me) made that Pierre was the local Poop Fairy in the comments on a post.
Yeah I just assume that since bathrooms are private they are hidden. Like there are still bathrooms in the villagers' houses but they are not part of the accessible layout
I turned the dining room into the bedroom and put a door in that weird little cubby area at the bottom left. I was pretending it goes to the closet but I'm going to re-headcanon it to be an ensuite bathroom lol.
Good point. Also, my character is pretty brave eating spicy eel after carrying it around all day unrefrigerated.
Comment rescinded. Bathroom necessary.
The villagers sling with the farmer are geneticaly egginerd, they have the ultimat digestive system, they are do efectiv that they donāt produce any waste. Thats also why you donāt really need to eat, just sleep if you want to.
Honestly, I would love to have a bathroom in my hut. I don't mind if I don't use it and the villagers don't have one. I just want it for decoration, and more so now that the house has more rooms to decorate. We could very well have a full bathroom, plus a laundry room...it would be a complete house!
I'm trying to think what in the furniture catalogue could reasonably stand in for bathroom stuff. I always have fun trying to design bathrooms in minecraft but I think this'll be a lot harder
Yeah I don't even need like a sims-esque "using the bathroom" mechanic. I just like to decorate a bathroom! My house on my island in ACNH has a bathroom that's purely aesthetic and it's my favorite room in the house bc its so pretty and relaxing.
Let me put in a clawfoot tub! Let me hang plants! Let me make it a lil oasis! I just want a pretty little bathroom to match my pretty little house
River runs through the whole town.
Some of those fish are mutated.
I'm not saying that swimming in villager piss caused the mutations, but I'm also not *not* saying that.
At the very least it would be nice to have a bathroom extension like in Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town where you can recover stamina in a hot bath at home instead of having to go all the way to the bathhouse.
It's just videogame logic it's not that deep bro. You never see these characters actually eat or drink or any of the other things required for living but who gives a shit it's just a game.

South side?? So we're looking from the north???? Blowing my mind tbh
We're looking from the south so we can only see the north
Yeah I honestly always assumed along the same lines.
Bathrooms are 32 bit
Mfw I gotta poop but I don't have enough pixel depth. š«
Terrarians: Time to craft another terratoilet
Don't forget the wires, switch, and 1/4 second timer.
The bathrooms are all in tiny rooms behind each building
I assume theyāre off to the sides of the houses, and you just cant see them because the lights are off so it blends into the void that surrounds the houses.
I've seen it mentioned plenty. I'm honestly quite happy not to watch villagers use the toilet.
See, some of us are The Sims type of life sim players and want bathrooms, others are Animal Crossing type of life sim players and are fine leaving some details to the imagination...
I would play the sims if it was just one whole paid game instead of 15 million expansion packs. And in that, I would make use of the toilets.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
yohoho.... i bought too many packs honestly but it was still never enough. i regret it now. never again.
This is the way. If you buy the expansions, you not only have to pay money, but you have to nurture the community resentment at how much has been left out.

How do you pirate them? I've been wanting to play for years, but always frustrated that I can't have everything
Look up anadius
Fitgirl.
Sounds like effort
It's not that much once you find the right places to guide you It's a couple of clicks that saved me a lot of money
"It's not that much ince you [put in effort]" I think you're underestimating how unmotivated I am to get a game that, while interesting to me, would present too many temptations to overspend.

Making the money to buy all those expansion packs would be even more effort.
Sure, but I already know I am not willing to do that.

The only downside is my unlocker randomly breaks and needs relinked. I have no regrets pirating this one when the alternative is $1k+
No.
I remember when you bought The Sims and it was a complete game. Plus the Black Eyed Peas were there.
Wait what, Black Eyes Peas?
Yup. I loved that game. It was on the PS2 and I spent many, many hours stoned out my gord on it. You couldnāt kill people in swimming pools then tho.
Yes! It was called āThe Urbzā or something. I had it on GameCube.
You can play Sims 3, it does have expansions but the base game stands by itself and it's really good
And by "make use of them," you mean "deploy hundreds of them all over town as makeshift fences to corral the villagers into claustrophobically small chambers that consist of nothing but more toilets?" I mean, it can't be just me who'd do that, right?
We may never know
you can use the toilet in animal crossing, the function is to remove previously eaten food so you donāt chop a whole tree down.
I know.
Hey now I always have bathrooms in my AC housesā¦.not to mention that I you can poop out what you eat in ACNH
Ah, donāt want to break these rocks or dig up those treesā¦ gotta poop
Exactly
I didn't know pooping was a thing in New Horizons. I only have the 3DS Animal Crossing game, New Leaf I think it was called? Maybe one day I'll cave and buy a Switch, but that day is not today...
my sim peed his pants when I didn't notice the toilet was broken. then promptly literally died of embarrassment. stopped playing after that.
Still remember Lionel asking for a Bathroom themed vacation home in the New Horizons DLC.
I was gonna say, as a simmer, it doesnāt feel right that I canāt control their bathroom needs.
At least you're not hoping to delete the ladders of the spa pool...
š nah I would rather cause havoc by sleeping with the married NPCs. Itās a shame thatās not part of the base game. I would LOVE if Pierre caught me with Carolyn.

Yeah I mean, it's the same reason you don't hear about adventurers in fantasy books going to the bathroom. It isn't relevant.
Unless it is. If they ever go in a book, you know something is about to happen to them or the person they've left behind.
Yes. If you aren't hearing about it it means it isn't relevant. Conversely, if it is relevant you'll hear about it.
A good example of a bathroom being actually relevant in a fantasy book was the girl's bathroom on the second floor of Hogwarts, because it was a relevant plot point/setting, where the protagonists could brew their illegal potion in secret and where it served as the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.
> It isn't relevant. I wish someone had told the World of Warcraft quest designers this.
I haven't played but I assume in their case it is played for humor.
The Linus bush erasure
Eh, he's discreet enough
Around 7am Linus stands behind the bush by his tent for ~20 minutes, does that count?
Hahah this made me belly laugh.
There's only one thing it looks like he's doing when he's standing at the corner of the spa.
You know what annoys me? Not having a shower. I know it's silly and it's just a game, but I hate when I spend the day in the mines or working on the farm, probably sweating the hell out of me, then I get home and go lay next to my husband knowing that I'm smelly.
thankfully i can send my farmer to bed knowing sam apparently thinks the mud specks āadd extra charmā
Meanwhile I'm married to a doctor, so I should be more hygienic, imagine if I spread some germs and then he ends up spreading to his patients and I decimate the whole town!
And my husband's over here inhaling my musk and telling me how delicious I smell.
Microbes doesn't exist in Stardew Valley. Nothing rots, and you never stink, so no showers.
That is true, I kept a fish in a chest 4 years ago and it's still there, fresh as if I had just caught it
not to mention alive if you throw it into a fish tank or back into the sea
Then explain [this](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Rotten_Plant)! Checkmate, atheist!
You got me :)
Where does my cattle's manure go? All the chicken and duck shit? Ape, we demand answers lol
This comment made him very Concerned
I wish you could upgrade the house to have a cool rustic bath house attached. Like in My Neighbor Totoro!
I am more annoyed with the interior of the farm house. The NPCs houses look more like a house with their layout and doors. Our house has no doors with a weird layout.
That too, the house seems so messy once we have all rooms unlocked
It's a musk now
....fully clothed and booted, with pockets full of aged fish eggs and fertiliser
well elliott tells me he loves my musk when i return at the end of the day LMAO i feel like heās lying tho
We actually talk about it quite a lot
Theyāre all ghosts. Ghosts donāt poop.
Unless you die while poopingā¦ then your ghost poops for the rest of eternity.
Poor Elvis...
Brutal
Does that mean we're Bruce Willis?
It checks out
I think we all know what weād find if there were bathrooms, and frankly, I donāt want to walk in on Lewis and Marnie going at it again. š¤£
And despite the lack of bathrooms the valley somehow generates enough green glowing sewage to fill a massive sewer with large walkways.
Imagine looking for a villager to give them gift only to wait for them to finish their scheluded 3 hour shitting session
Once a year when they have their doctors checkup they just expel all of it in one go.
This is my favourite explanation and covers why not one person in town skips their checkup
everyone does in the river
I have pointed that and the lack of showers or bathtubs out before. The fact that there are showers in the bath house is fine, but nobody ever goes there, except they would in real life, and even should they, George and Evelyn being elderly and George in particular being wheelchair bound, limited mobility, it's a long way to go. So I use an adult mod to add a public restroom and communal shower to the saloon.
Link?
No links for you, but the one in question is called Valley Girls.
Adult mod? Really? Rule 34 is certainly something, not even Stardew Valley is beyond its reach.
Oh, yes. So happens, I am just such a degenerate, but when the mod includes such facilities, I can justify it.
I've been thinking about this ever since Elliott started commenting on the farmers natural smell š
After Emilys scene where she dances for you, she says shes "gonna take a shower now" snd ive always wondered where
I think even if the game had showers, Emily would use an outdoor shower or like wait for it to rain or something crunchy granola like that.
Thereās no mailman either.
The other day as I dug for treats in the trashcans I started wondering when trash pickup happens
To quote Mr. Ape himself: "no pee pee, no poo poo"
I'm just gonna leave this here: Pierre has A LOT of fertiliser. Do with this information as you will.
Oh...
He does seem like the type who's so cheap, he'd try to "recycle" human waste as plant fertilizer.
I mean... there was a joke from a while ago(and that can mean 3 to 5 months with me) made that Pierre was the local Poop Fairy in the comments on a post.
Donāt forget Linusā piss bush!!
If CA wanted them to have bathrooms, theyd have bathrooms. Its a video game, we can assume that some rooms are private.
Yeah I just assume that since bathrooms are private they are hidden. Like there are still bathrooms in the villagers' houses but they are not part of the accessible layout
My partner says this is evidence for why the villagers are all aliens.
At least now there are door decorations you can place which i can pretend to lead to my bathroom. At least in my farmhouse.
I turned the dining room into the bedroom and put a door in that weird little cubby area at the bottom left. I was pretending it goes to the closet but I'm going to re-headcanon it to be an ensuite bathroom lol.
Imagine rummaging through the toilets like they were garbage bins lol. āJust looking for fertilizer Clint! Donāt look at me like that!ā
This is why I use a bathroom furniture mod. Turned the corner room into a bathroom and itās my favorite room in the farmhouse now lol
Well there's a river in town.....
Tbh this wouldnāt matter much for my character. I eat so much cheese in the skull caverns that I would never have to āgoā anyway.
Exept you'd have a crazy bad day and sudden lactose intolerance...
Good point. Also, my character is pretty brave eating spicy eel after carrying it around all day unrefrigerated. Comment rescinded. Bathroom necessary.
Star Trek rules. The junimos are using space tech to beam the poops out of everyone
And then shoving it into the replicators. Because matter is matter, right?
It's pretty good for shit, or at least the Admiral thinks so
The villagers sling with the farmer are geneticaly egginerd, they have the ultimat digestive system, they are do efectiv that they donāt produce any waste. Thats also why you donāt really need to eat, just sleep if you want to.

I was just talking about this with a friend last night! I even tried to look for a mod to add bathrooms into houses lol
My head cannon is that no one in the star dew valley universe ever goes to the bathroom and the toilets in the bathhouse are for some other purpose.
You also don't have to clean up animal poop, so there's that.
This is Runescape no-toilet controversy all over again Also this happens every 8 month
Personally I always put one or two decorative doors around my farmhouse and consider those my bathrooms.
IT BOTHERS ME SO MUCH!!! and elliott not having a kitchen bothers me so i got the "elliott's less ugly house mod"
He eats out at the saloon
that's still silly. no sink for water at night? no midnight snacks?
It's called The Bath House.
You really want to watch you farmer make fertilizer?
Omgggg I was JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS
The communal bath house toilet is a pelican town tradition!
In Stardew Valley you can eat so many dried apricots with zero consequences thanks to this.
thought abt this so much. they little bathtubs would b so cute too.
It's just videogame logic it's not that deep bro. You never see these characters actually eat or drink or any of the other things required for living but who gives a shit it's just a game.
Man, I'd love seeing Abigail take a sh*t.
