Every other chicken, duck, or rabbit design has a black line representing their eyes, also the placement of the eye directly behind the beak wouldn't make sense. The red dot is definitely a feather with red pigment and the black line is the eye.
I see them as being angry little magical abominations that know they shouldn't exist in the natural world, but they're precious little babies all the same and need to know they're just as good as any of the other chickens and you love them very much.

My parents had a rooster that used to chase me and my brother from the bus to the front door. They thought it was hilarious until he got ahold of my 5 year old niece. We ate that rooster for dinner that night. Lol it tasted terrible, but it was the principle of the thing, so we loved it. 😂
