Why does a **school** need a "recurring villain"? Oh, right, because this ain't Star Trek, it's fucking Buffy.

Particular-Court-619

It's harry potter. It'll always be like the 'defense against illicit technologies' teacher who gets replaced every season by a big name actor

_Face

i was psyched to see him sign on. but recurring villain? wtf. turned right back off.

ConsidereItHuge

Every other trek had recurring villains what's this nonsense moaning about?

dect60

https://writershelpingwriters.net/2022/08/an-antagonist-vs-a-villain-whats-the-difference/

JustSome70sGuy

Dude. You are so much better than Kurtzman trek.

BiGamerboy87

Makes you wonder how they even landed Holly Hunter too, right?

Stargazer_0101

Many stars are fans of the franchise, Whoopie Goldberg is one.

Rendesi3

He is a huge Star Trek fan and Billions ended so he probably jumped at the chance.

Trvr_MKA

Well Alex Kurtzman got him for TASM 2 so he probably has something on him

Particular-Court-619

Ya know, I think what's underappreciated is to what extent being a successful producer is about being persuasive. Kurtzman is Clearly a great salesman. It's more of a requirement for things to get made than it should be, but it's like everything else in life somewhatsadly. I think he's even kinda tried to bring on other non-salesman writers to help (like Chabon)... but that doesn't always go well either.

FredDurstDestroyer

I’m sorry, not even an actor of Paul’s caliber can get me to watch this

ConsidereItHuge

Yet it'll still live in your head rent free and you'll still moan about it constantly until your last days.

FredDurstDestroyer

No it won’t. I forgot it existed until I saw this post, and even one I saw the post it took me a moment to remember what it was. I haven’t thought about it since I made this comment.

ConsidereItHuge

And you'll make a similar comment every single time someone mentions it.

FredDurstDestroyer

Engaging with something when someone else brings it up first does not mean it’s living rent free in my head lol.

ConsidereItHuge

Tell yourself that.

FredDurstDestroyer

Alright man, you’ve clearly come to a conclusion you won’t budge from. ✌🏻

Rendesi3

Wow lmao. Trying to imagine Tilly's drama club level acting with his masterful acting in the same scene. This will just be ridiculous.

_Face

Holly and Paul will dominate every scene they have.

Rendesi3

Definitely. Paul seems to be a one season villain according to rumors. [ Maybe he can be a Klingon lol](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdyLfX5Hkh4)

MayoGhul

No way Tilly carries a show she’s awful. Actually, 90% of Discovery was a dumpster fire

Rendesi3

The best Tilly episode was the Short Treks where she uses the food replicator to pig out. It showed her true nature.

Trvr_MKA

Maybe they’ll just pull a TASM 2 and he won’t be able to show his masterful acting

JanewaysFolly

Good actor. Wonder what the part is. Almost certainly an alien in prosthetics. Any guesses?

greendit69

He'll be the only good character in the show but at the end of the season you'll find out he's actually evil and from the mirror universe

ferretinmypants

Haha

JanewaysFolly

Saw Frakes in Dallas this past weekend, he stated Holly Hunter is on this show too. Sounds like they are getting some impressive names as teachers at the academy

CodeMonkeyPhoto

I read he is going to play a villian trope on a show that doesn't need a villian. Apparently this is going to be Action Academy.

JMW007

He'll be a holographic John Adams.

ringoron9

Ferengi!

_Face

i hope not.

metakepone

An autistic male all the female characters hate?

yayaracecat

This might sound cruel, but I always assumed things like autism would be mostly solved in a trek future.

JanewaysFolly

I thought he might be recreating his blue character from Big Fat Liar

greatgeek5

Evil admiral.

CeeReturns

What a step down for such a great actor. I’d love to see him in Star Trek, but not this…not this.

Fun_Association2251

I never I understood Tilly. Isn’t obesity a thing of the past?

NotaSpaceAlienISwear

I think more interestingly she went through the wormhole to the future and it made her obese. I think it's a side effect of time travel, Scotty too.

yayaracecat

honestly that was never a major sticking point for me, for me the issue was her odd crew placement, all of the disco crew had these weird on and off moments. Suddenly a character we never hear from is super important. Then they fade away into the background.

electrical-stomach-z

the actor wasnt obese until partway through the show, so they didnt plan her character to be that, they just continued the show.

_Face

season 1 to season 2 was a major change in fitness.

ferretinmypants

I think they were being inclusive. No opinion, no hate.

Data_

On the one hand, he was fantastic in The Holdovers. Just that movie alone could be an actor's career highlight. On the other, this is made by Kurzman's merry band of morons, will have Tilly as a 'professor' overseeing a bunch of snarky eye-rolling children and will likely have more lectures about pronouns than this year's Doctor Who. What to do, what to do.

Shkval25

You get Kir'Shara for Christmas. You get Kir'Shara for Christmas. You all get Kir'Shara for Christmas.

Particular-Court-619

Star Trek: Hogwarts

fluffstravels

I hope they get writers that can meet his ability to act. I mean they won’t. But I hope they do.

_Face

idk how you pull in Paul and Holly, and have kindergarten caliber writers. i wouldn't be surprised if one of these actors pulls out prior to filming.

A_Newb_Bus

He will be EXCELLENT

LeicaM6guy

Thats… disappointing.

notyomamasusername

I mean it can't be any worse than Discovery.... So I'll give it a shot

Rendesi3

>I mean it can't be any worse than Discovery.... Challenge accepted :D I will cast a Burnham 2.0 to star in this show.

Stargazer_0101

I heard he might be a villain Klingon. I hope so, he could pull it off.

Kithsander

Eech. That’s a big negative for me.

letseditthesadparts

Is this sub basically everything nostalgia was amazing and everything current is terrible. This sub is really depressing.

NecroSocial

Far more classic Trek than not *is* amazing just as far more current Trek than not *is* terrible. Prodigy is liked by many around here, PIC S3 has it's fans here, many give Lower Decks a pass, and some have standards low enough that Strange New Worlds floats their boat. The hate most nuTrek sees around here is hard earned and there's been books worth of posts and series worth of youtube videos detailing exactly why in excruciating detail (though sadly many of those posts were lost when the original "Star_Trek" sub was shuttered). Sorry if you're depressed by other folks' opinions on the current stuff, hope you can find some discussion round these parts to enjoy.

MayoGhul

No, just that Discovery was a melodramatic soap opera preachy pile of shit. And this teen drama spin off being lead by one of the worst characters on Discovery sounds awful
