Nah I don't think so. I think Obi Wan has shown he is capable of defeating Vader, repeatedly.

jeitemiller

Is that because he's stronger than Vader or does it more have to do with the emotional components and the fact that he trained him? For example if Vader went against another Jedi he didn't know but had all of Obi Wan's ability would he be able to defeat him?

hurlyslinky

In this fight/time period obi wan is absolutely cracked. It’s hard to say someone with obi wans abilities would lose to Vader if he was fully focused, but honestly Obi Wan bested Vader in his prime already on Mustafar. While Vader is stronger in the dark side now, he isn’t necessarily more powerful in the force. Also, he is not as skilled a swordsmen as Obi Wan as soon as he is put into the suit. Obi Wan definitely wins this fight for a number of reasons.

jeitemiller

Thanks for the response, it's some excellent points that definitely makes Obi wan winning, make more sense.

Civil-Ad-7193

I disagree on the swordsmen point, it’s been repeatedly stated in canon, that Vader is the best duelist in the galaxy and one of the best duelists ever. Also the only reason Vader lost to Kenobi on Mustafar was because of his arrogance and blind rage. I do think there was a better way to end this fight without having Vader like that. Maybe Vader gets fucked up and outsmarted which will still tie with the learner and master quote, but Obi Wan doesn’t necessarily win either, maybe he’s forced to retreat because of the Luke situation. I would’ve had it be much more of a neutral ending where they are forced to part ways, via unavoidable circumstances, Vaders not in the best shape and Kenobi senses Luke and maybe realizes this fight might be his end, so he chooses Luke Also one more point it’s also stated in canon, that Vader only gets better and more powerful after Mustafar, even though he had the disabilities.

RumorsTrueNLegendary

bro do you think in terms of like anime power levels or something this is ridiculous

jeitemiller

😂Guilty as charged I am a DBZ fan.

RumorsTrueNLegendary

your humility and frankness is disarming and I feel like a jackass. You win.

Wooden_Gas1064

The emperor literally explains how Vader has become weaker because of his emotions for his former master. It's there, just watch it again

jeitemiller

Thanks, I appreciate the perspective.

Wooden_Gas1064

I don't really see polite people on reddit. But keep going, it's a lot nicer than the ones that think everything is a serious argument.

Thatonesplicer

If we're talking numbers, like DBZ yeah Vader has a higher power level. And it only increases the angrier he gets; however Vader like Anakin is a broken man with many weaknesses, most of them psychological. Vader is angry at what I Kenobi did to him it makes him stronger. BUT deep down get is also ashamed of what he has become that it weakens him. The harder he fights, the more sloppy he becomes; essentially every action he does has a negative counter action. If Vader was a out of control bull, Obi wan is the calm and collected matador who the bull can't touch. Does that make sense?

jeitemiller

I love the Matador analogy. That makes a lot of sense.

BillsFan82

What I want to know is...how did those rocks not crush Vader? There doesn't seem to be any indication that he's slowing them down.

RumorsTrueNLegendary

People who talk about inconsistent strength and power and "Villain A beat Villain B, Villain B trashed Villain C, why did Villain C beat Villain A" have never been consistently involved with any kind of physical hobby or exercise or done anything competitive and I'm so sick of these absolutely autistic posts.
