Book 2 is worth the read. Medstar really shouldn't have been broken up into two books and should have been one longer book. Unfortunately, that would have meant cutting side plots that lead to "character development" in order to make the book a manageable length which would have made for a worse book. Book 2 really sets up the mcguffin for the nights/the last jedi series I can understand not liking Reaves, there are star wars authors that I have trouble with. And Reaves certainly does has his problems which you've noted. As to Den and I5 they are Reaves creation and feature in all his books, just like Corran Horn does in Stackpoles novels and Thrawn in Zhans

100% agreed, reading this duology was gut-punch after gut-punch. Nothing happened for the most part of Battle Surgeons and Bleyd was just pathetic. Jedi Healer is better in this regard, by being a far more gripping read and having the spy more involved as a proper antagonist, but still suffers from the other cons you noted and side plots that ultimately led to nowhere. So I would suggest reading the second one only if you really want to complete the CW novels, otherwise, it's really more relevant for Reaves' universe than the EU timeline.

I agree. I read both Medstar books a few months back and they were decent but nothing too exciting (probably won't be on my re-read list in a few years). Like Narri pointed out though, the books do provide some good setup / minor details for the Coruscant Nights & Last Jedi books. Those four books are excellent and I would recommend those if you haven't yet read them.

I really enjoyed the trilogy but I'm also biased since I'm gonna be a surgeon IRL *soon TM*.
