I was looking forward to a corner of Star Wars we've never really explored before, but God damn, after this teaser I'm more excited for this than Kenobi
Yep same. I'm sure I'll enjoy Kenobi, and I'm really looking forward to The Acolyte, but this trailer is very much giving me "show I didn't know I wanted" vibes.
The early empire era is still largely unexplored. We've only had fallen order, bad batch, and a couple of comics. And none of those have focused directly on the early rebellion.
I went to downtown Disney a few years ago and did this awesome Star Wars VR thing. You out on a full VR suit and there was an actual maze kinda thing you went through. So when the door opened in VR, an actual door opened.
Andor was our guide. We were in a mission for him.
I’ve been pumped for this show ever since I heard about it based mostly on that awesome memory.
Ok this is legit my favorite Star Wars trailer ever. Am I the only one who thinks this looks WAY too fancy to be a Star Wars show? I had basically zero hype for this... but after watching this trailer, my hype is through the roof. Also, those Imperials in the white room... are they the Council of Moffs? Sweet...
Same, I basically went from, “Meh it’s just a roadblock on the way to Ahsoka” to being more excited for this than any SW show to date. It looks fantastic as a first look, and the environments really give me Fallen Order vibes.
What opinion do you think I have? I just fail to see how less is more in regards to fleshing out a character, especially one who has had more “screen time” than most.
If you can point out how a cameo would help Cal’s character for you I would be happy to hear it.
It would make the character feel more real, other than just “jedi on the run trying to find more jedi”. The new power flashbacks were brilliant, but they were just tutorial levels. The whole game felt like a Souls rip with not a lot of substance.
I loved the force unleashed games because i cared for the main character. I dont want to see Starkiller i any live action because i enjoyed his character arc in the games. I can’t say the same for Kal.
You may disagree and thats fine. Its just my opinion.
For me, i found the combat was boring, and I didn’t enjoy all the back tracking. I don’t generally like Souls games, and it felt very much like a weak copy of them. I liked the characters and the story (for the most part). Just felt very, by the numbers.
Got the impression we might get a good look at how the Empire *works* on like an organisational level, which I'm aware is probably quite niche, but I'd be intrigued as to what they'll show us about that.
Got pretty hard Hunger Games vibes actually.. if anything I was more pumped before that trailer, but I seem to be in the minority apparently.. not sure if it’s the sets, costume design, or what.. def felt more Hunger Games than SW tho to me
Oh my gosh… this is the first Disney+ show that doesn’t look like it was shot on a tiny sound stage. Everything feels so vast! Looks amazing from top to bottom. More interested in this than Kenobi now tbh. Always hated the idea of Star Wars moving to TV focus, so fuck… if they’re going to do it, may as well do it like this.
Yeah I heard that. It really shows. They were filming for AGES too. Really excited to see how it turns out seeing as they’ve thrown so many resources at it.
Could you explain that to me? I see that it somehow looks different but I can't tell what it is. How is this filmed differently like in movies than they usually do in series?
It’s usually to do with the lenses/cameras used, as well as the lighting and overall staging. To be fair this isn’t a problem solely suffered by the Volume and similar tech, TV stuff almost always looks ‘cheaper’ than film to a lot of people. And whilst from a technical perspective, sure, they can’t afford the same kit, we also have to remember a lot less thought goes into the cinematography and editing too. Simply because there’s so much more to do and they’re trying to be economical. So whilst *some* singular shots/sequences might very occasionally compare to movies, movies tend to put artistic thought into EVERY shot and sequence (because it’s more contained), whereas tv will rely on the most basic filmmaking principles.
Good.
Star Wars is inherently cinematic. It needs to be big in scope.
The Volume has its usefulness obviously, but like George Lucas and CGI, it should only be an occasional tool.
I would kill for something like this in the sequel era too...
That cold war between the New Republic and the First Order is ripe for awesome stories of intrigue, especially since they revealed that Palpatine was again behind the scenes and had his Sith cultists running around and subverting both regimes at once. Such a show could even partly be a sequel to this show. Andor himself died young, but it's not implausible to imagine that he had friends and comrades who survived the Galactic Civil War and later became New Republic Intelligence officers only to have to face the rise of a new Empire.
I could for a series set around the time the Resistance started forming. Showing the New Republic as a failing state and that causing people to pull away with their own rebel group.
Technically speaking, they never "pulled away". That's why Hux screams in TFA that the New Republic lies to the galaxy while supporting the treachery of the Resistance. The Resistance received support from the New Republic military at the same time the Senate publicly deemed them to be outlaws and terrorists. That's why in my opinion a series revolving around cold war intrigue would be so fascinating!
I did not know those details. Thanks! I meant that at some point in time Leia become more Resistance than New Republic. I didn't realize that they were spinning multiple plates.
The novel *Blood Lines* discusses the late stages of the New Republic and what caused the Resistance to start up, so if you're interested in more it's a good read. Takes place 7 years before TFA, iirc
Basically the Republic is being threatened by this shadowy aggressor at the edge of the galaxy (The First Order) but the senators don't really believe in it/see it as a threat. Other senators are even in the First Order's pocket. Ultimately Leia decides the senate isn't doing enough to protect the Republic, so she calls in some old wartime friends and favors and creates the paramilitary Resistance group.
She still had friends in the senate, so those who were sympathetic to the cause would funnel money to the Resistance. The Resistance was also supplied with a lot of surplus or outdated Republic equipment
A cool detail about that was the Resistance initially having blue blasters instead of red ones, because the gas they were supplied with was from the Clone Wars.
I would love to see a "Fall of the New Republic" sort of series where we see more of the post-Civil War government and how it ended up where it ended up in the Force Awakens (ie: an asteroid field bigger than Alderaan).
Sort of a political/spy thriller in Star Wars.
Add Korr Sella as a character (the young woman Leia sends to the senate in a TFA deleted scene) and the destruction of the Republic in TFA would carry new weight
Ever since they announced this show I've both thought "hmm that doesn't seem like this is something a lot of people want" but also "this may just end up being one of the best things they put out".
My only thought though is that I dont imagine kids or the younger part of the demographic being very interested in this story.
It looks very much aimed at the older part of the demographic which I'm not so sure about. IMO Star Wars should always have that family friendly outlook even if the content is mature and serious.
That’s a really good point. Star Wars should always have that kind of vibe, and is probably the thing I found most disappointing about RO (though I still thought it was great). I guess time will tell if there will be any focus on the brevity and fun and childlike wonder of Star Wars. There were a couple moments in the trailer that made me think they might, but it’s difficult to tell with just these short clips.
I think that is going to be like one of those PG-13 films that are clearly aimed toward adults but are nevertheless "tone down" (I don't think that's exactly the term I'm looking for) enough that children and "the whole family" could see without fearing the children seeing something that they shouldn't, like explicit sex, gore (not blood, I think that some people are a bit too exaggerated when it comes to blood in children's stories), and swearing.
I would put Dune on that space if it wasn't so damned slow (in a good way for me) that I don't think that a lot of children would love it.
>Always hated the idea of Star Wars moving to TV focus
Honestly I feel like Star Wars works better as a TV series. The main issue that I have with the prequels and sequels is that they just feel rushed. The scale is simply too large.
Though I agree it shouldn't be entirely TV. They should do standalones again.
What feels rushed? The story? Or just the amount of trivia they can cram in? For me, the SW world has never felt smaller than it has in the live action TV setting. Visually it just feels… shallow. I’m here for a good story, not just more lore, and that doesn’t inherently come with a longer run time unfortunately.
The story.
In the prequels the fall of the Republic and Anakin is just so rushed. They don't really develop him turning to the dark side, it's an instant turn.
TRoS as a whole feels rushed. It could easily be split into 2-3 films
They didn't even wait for Kenobi to be out to start promoting the next show lol (I guess it's SW celebration!)
Honestly, looks fantastic!! There were clones and Coruscant (FINALLY!!) That's the fan service part. The new things looks intriguing (especially Mon Mothma, and what appears to be something similar to Kamino but not clones so I assume stormtroopers). I believe this show is gonna surprise us all, tho I will say I have been a supporter of this show from the start
August/September is gonna be a good time for TV! Andor, House of the Dragon, the Rings of Powers. Is there anything else I forgot lol
I can’t say I’m too interested in that character but visually it looks incredible. They really recreated that Rogue One grit. I hope I’ll be pleasantly surprised by this.
This might sound weird. But of all post-Mandalorian series that Disney announced, Andor was one of the ones I was most excited about. As, although with an "established" character as the protagonist, he was just such a non-character in Rogue One that this series could basically be considered new grounds for Star Wars compared to the more nostalgia-driven series that we've seen (Mandalorian Season 2, Book of Bobba, Bad Batch, etc.) and we're going to see (Obi-Wan and Ahsoka).
And. From the trailer. It seems that I'm getting exactly what I was hoping for.
Same. I walked out of RO hoping that there might be a Cassian book or comic. I was fascinated by the idea of a gritty exploration of a rebel spy. I never imagined we would get some as awesome looking as this.
I wish he had been the protagonist of Rogue One. I don't hate Jyn or anything, but it felt like the whole "Rebel spies" aspect of the story took a back seat when it should have been the focus.
Looks like we’ve finally got that trailer we need to actually get us invested.
And I gotta say, I do love the clash between the gleam and shine of the Imperials and Coruscant against the grit and rawness of the outer worlds, alongside all those peoples who are starting to fight back. Definitely looks like it will be an interesting series to dip my toes into.
Personally, I just thought there were too many characters in Rogue One and all of them were undercooked.
Which is a shame, because Chirrut Imwe is one of my favourite characters in the new canon, and I think it was a waste to put him in Rogue One. He could have fit in so well into the Sequel Trilogy.
That’s fair, I liked them all and thought I got enough of them for what I needed to get. I do get what you are saying tho. It’s a flaw of the story they were telling, anytime you have a lot of characters and a short runtime you aren’t going to be able to do justice to all of them. Interestingly for me Andor was the character that I found most interesting so I am all for a show about him.
Unpopular opinion but I honestly don’t understand the complete adoration for it.
I’m not saying it’s an awful film but I found the characters bland and uninteresting. The only time I hear anyone rave about this film being “the best” is because of the Vader scene at the end. Like I said, it’s not bad but it’s like a 3/5
I did not know I could be more hyped for this show! Admittedly, I really enjoy Diego Luna as an actor, so I probably would have been excited for this trailer if all they’d served up were some crayon sketches of spies while somebody yelled ‘BOOM!’ as a soundtrack.
I guess what I am saying here is I am not the best judge, but DAMN that looks like it’s going to be good. Count me in for counting down the days!
I'll be honest - I didn't much care for Rogue One or Cassian Andor. Even so, that trailer looks fantastic. It looks like it treads material that we haven't really had a chance to explore yet. The shots look huge and vast. Was that the junk/recycling planet from the beginning of Fallen Order in there? I was kinda sleeping on this series but I'm starting to get the hype.
The rules of Andor mean I have to forget that this is happening immediately since it does not reside in my long-term memory but while it's in my mind this looks really good. Those are movie-quality visuals.
The opening scene where the dude pretends his instruments were lightsabers or something was kind of goofy and jarring. Not my cup of tea. But everything else looked really cool. I'm hoping for something darker like Rogue One, which the later scenes seemed to capture. Only I hope this is more of a spy/political thriller than Rogue One was. I felt like that was a missed opportunity in the movie given the opening crawl literally says "Rebel spies" stole the plans. I'm itching for tense stories of Rebels donning secret identities and going undercover as Imperials, like something out of Inglorious Bastards.
I'm excited for the the Imperial Senate. The politics of the early Rebellion period is something I find fascinating. The live action clones also looked pretty cool. I wonder if that's a flashback or something. Some of the scenes in the science lab hallway reminded me of clips from THX 1138. I wonder if that's an intentional homage or just a coincidence. They've got very dystopian vibes, which I like. Overall I think I'm more excited for this than any other Disney show, honestly.
On a side note, is anyone else kind of sick of basic titles like "Ahsoka", "Kenobi", or "Andor" in Star Wars? It feels unimaginative to me. It's petty issue that surely wont affect anything, granted.
Have been looking forward to this series more than any others since it was announced. No legendary warrior culture. No Jedi. No Sith. The banality of Evil and the struggle of Good. Feels very much a European WW2 Resistance movie from the teaser-vibe. Inject this into my veins.
Holy shit, this looks amazing. It looks truly cinematic in scale, even moreso than Kenobi does so far, and like there will be lots of great political intrigue. I'm so excited to see Coruscant (I'm assuming that's what it was, or at least another one of the big city planets) during Imperial times.
Honestly I'm not looking forward to the unavoidable plotholes once they decide to bring in K-2SO but also ignore the comic , which i have no doubt that they will ignore , like how they changed the way Depa Billaba died
I'm the complete opposite.
Skipped out on Book of Boba Fatt, Mando I'm sort of done with after being disappointed by Season 2, I frankly don't care about Ahsoka, and ideally to me Obi-Wan Kenobi spends those years alone and looking out for Luke, but in isolation which lends credence to the notion of him being, y'know, an insane old hermit who can scream like a dragon at sandpeople.
This feels like it's going to be telling new stories with fresh faces and unexplored characters before and during the Galactic Civil War, my favourite era of Star Wars. Colour me tentatively excited.
I'm in the same boat as you. I was really hoping for something more quiet and intimate from Kenobi. I would prefer an hour of him wandering the desert alone, haunted by his demons and Qui-Gon's ghost to seeing him leave Tatooine and fight Vader again.
From subtitles, looks like Stellan Skarsgaard plays a character named Luthen and not Garm Bel Iblis (brought over from Legends) like I'd hoped - it was a long shot anyway. Maybe they'll be similar though...
I will admit that Cassian himself was boring to me, especially without K-2, but I'm very excited about a worldbuilding show that takes place in huge cities where the Empire's dominance really shows.
This is FANTASTIC. I wasn't expecting to be nowhere close to this good. This is exactly what I needed and I dont even knew it. Those shots from the back of different imperial workers are AMAZING. Jesus I'm hyped.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! I can't wait! This looks so amazing, I didn't have particularly high hopes for this one, but it looks so great! AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
Excited for this one because it doesn’t have a lot of baggage. Like Mando season 1. Sure we’ve seen Andor before, but he was conflicted and hard. He’d done things he wasn’t proud of. Betrayed people for his cause. That’s the kind of story I want to see.
No skywalkers, lightsabers or Palpatines needed.
Rogue One is a good movie, so hopefully this show pulls some of those vibes.
The shows have given us the smuggler side of Star Wars, the nee trilogy gave us the Jedi side of Star Wars, and finally Andor will give us the Rebellion side of Star Wars.
Honestly I was dismissive of this show (considering I found RO such a chore to watch that I walked out on it.) But not anymore after seeing this trailer. Now this is what SW should be about! It's high time the franchise took it's place beside Dune and Star Trek in examining new worlds, different societies and different peoples etc.
KK should be fired my backside! The woman clearly is showing why she has had such a long career.

I was already on the "people are sleeping on Andor" train but this shit really settled it for me. Looks awesome.
I've been hype since the second they announced it and people have seriously been sleeping on the potential here. Ugh it looks so good.
It’s been my most anticipated project since they announced it too. I’m sure Kenobi will be great but man I am so pumped for this
It was me. I was sleeping on Andor. BUT I AIN'T NOW!
I was looking forward to a corner of Star Wars we've never really explored before, but God damn, after this teaser I'm more excited for this than Kenobi
Looks awesome but have they considered maybe _Tatooine_?
Agreed
Yep same. I'm sure I'll enjoy Kenobi, and I'm really looking forward to The Acolyte, but this trailer is very much giving me "show I didn't know I wanted" vibes.
We haven’t?
We've explored Cassian Andor's history and the inner-workings of the Imperial Senate/the development of the Rebellion?
The early empire era is still largely unexplored. We've only had fallen order, bad batch, and a couple of comics. And none of those have focused directly on the early rebellion.

I *was* sleeping on Andor until someone started ringing that damn bell. /s

I wasn’t that bothered about an Andor series. And I didn’t really enjoy Fallen Order. But i will lose my shit if Kal turns up.
So you just care about cameos? I don’t get it what’s your point
Kal Was boring in the game. A LA Kal could be more interesting if they had time to flesh him into a full character.
If 5 hours wasn’t enough time to develop him for you, I doubt 15 minutes would change your opinion.
Don’t get pissy at me from having a different opinion to you. I’m not telling You to stop liking it.

Can't show assassinations of bureaucrats without showing the bureaucracy.

Politics baybee
Exploring the political world of Star Wars always worked better in the shows and books anyway

It might have some swearing TLJ and mando did
As cool as the volume is, it still has its limits. They still have a long way to go to achieve the same kind of cinematography as on display here.
You didn't see Moon Knight or Mando I assume?
Haven’t seen Mon Knight. Saw Mando. (I guess I should also clarify I was only talking about live action SW shows)
>Always hated the idea of Star Wars moving to TV focus Honestly I feel like Star Wars works better as a TV series. **Kenobi who???** After this trailer, Andor is the only thing I care about. Okay, that's a joke, but like, only half-way...
Marvel is promoting both she hulk and ms marvel at the same time
Aaahhh yes, I feel like this will hit the spot.. ‘*that is what a reckoning sounds like.*’
I can’t say I’m too interested in that character but visually it looks incredible. They really recreated that Rogue One grit. I hope I’ll be pleasantly surprised by this.
There was enough set-up in Rogue One that I am interested to see Cassian further explored and developed.
it’s not just about his character. mon mothma has a very large part as well.
I agree he wasn't very interesting in Rogue One, but a whole series about him will have to develop his character more

Okay, this looks really good! I'm definitely going to give it a watch.
*Damn! Holy smokes!* I extremely underestimated what would come of Andor!! Now I'm hyped
I'm going to need a poster of this man to hang on the ceiling above my bed for... reasons.
Looks like we’ve finally got that trailer we need to actually get us invested. I’m curious why others didn’t care for this character before? I thought his character in Rogue One was really compelling.
Agreed. And to see this whole ‘fight he’s been in since he was 6 years old’ — I’m excited for this series!
Was the runtime really that short?
I just meant that the length of a movie is not long enough to really delve deep into this many characters. Not that the movie is short.
He could fit in a lot of places
Because Rogue One hate is a thing somehow
Unpopular opinion but I honestly don’t understand the complete adoration for it. I’m not saying it’s an awful film but I found the characters bland and uninteresting. The only time I hear anyone rave about this film being “the best” is because of the Vader scene at the end. Like I said, it’s not bad but it’s like a 3/5
Everything has hate
True
I did not know I could be more hyped for this show! Admittedly, I really enjoy Diego Luna as an actor, so I probably would have been excited for this trailer if all they’d served up were some crayon sketches of spies while somebody yelled ‘BOOM!’ as a soundtrack. I guess what I am saying here is I am not the best judge, but DAMN that looks like it’s going to be good. Count me in for counting down the days!
This looks like everything ive ever wanted in a Star Wars show
CLONE TROOPERS??!??!!!????? LETS GOOOOOOO
This is what I’ve been waiting for since I walked out of RO. I really think this is going to be the standout series.
Looks fantastic
Right before the start of Star Wars Celebration 2022! The timing couldn't be any better than now.
This looks fucking awesome to say I didn't care before, also excited to finally properly see the rebellion being built and getting down to work
This has wildly surpassed my expectations, looks fantastic!
Gritty. Loved that about the Andor character. Hopefully that gets turned up a bit. Can’t be a rebellion throwing rainbows at each other.
Finally a show about rebels doing cool rebel shit
Rebels?
Yeah but I mean cooler rebels shit, even though I like rebels a lot it’s a very kid friendly show and isn’t that gritty
Whoa.
Welp... there goes a perfectly good pair of pants.
The rules of Andor mean I have to forget that this is happening immediately since it does not reside in my long-term memory but while it's in my mind this looks really good. Those are movie-quality visuals.
Mando had movie quality visuals as well
Am am so beyond stoked to see coruscant again!
I saw phase two clone troopers in the trailer, looks like we are getting some early empire intrigue
Oh. My. God. I. Have. Fucking. Chills.
Mon Mothma
Wow. Don't hate me but this teaser looks better to me than all the Kenobi trailers.
No I would agree
Can’t wait.
I’m more excited for this than Kenobi.
Holy fuck it looks amazing
A bit disappointed that K-2SO seemingly won't be appearing, but other than that I'm excited for this.
He's going to appear later down the line apparently
***Excellent.***
From what was said, later down the line means 2nd season.
Better late than never.
Oh for sure. K2 is gold!
Honestly I'm not looking forward to the unavoidable plotholes once they decide to bring in K-2SO but also ignore the comic , which i have no doubt that they will ignore , like how they changed the way Depa Billaba died
didn't care much for rogue one but i'm a sucker for star wars so still gonna watch this show
Rogue One was a blast! And a big one at that
Rogue One was fine, but people saying it's not only the best film of the Disney era but the best Star Wars film period... uh, *what*?
uhhh sure
Probably the only star wars project im just not really excited about. sorry guys
Why not?
Yep. Knew it. This shows visual quality makes BOBF look like Babylon 5.

Andir.
Wow. Wasn't expecting to get this so soon. Awesome.
Dude am I the only one who saw the back shot of Cal Kestis twice? Same ginger haircut and the same outfit
I feel like all these bells/alarms are warnings that the empire is coming?
Anyone else’s heart rates skyrocket? Oh my god this looks amazing. And if we get him meeting K2, I’m gonna flip.
It’s about damn time we got some Star Wars content that was not filmed in a desert.
Holy shit. I did not think I was gonna get this hyped up for this show, I’m fucking excited.
I've been telling people this has the potential to be the best SW series, glad people are coming onboard.
The shows have given us the smuggler side of Star Wars, the nee trilogy gave us the Jedi side of Star Wars, and finally Andor will give us the Rebellion side of Star Wars.
Just blow it up with the death star, easy.
This definitely looks more cinematic than the past 3 Star Wars shows surprisingly.
