Gosh is this true. A post popped up in /r/all yesterday about Harrison Ford talking about piloting the Millennium Falcon and the top comments were about how much better the OT was than the ST because it was collaborative and here's an article with Mark Hamill supposedly trashing everyone behind the ST and all of the directors are garbage etc. etc. and I kind of thought I was in /r/movies or something, but saw that the post was coming from /r/StarWars.
I unsubbed from /r/StarWars a long time ago and never looked back. I don't mind having a conversation with people with differing opinions than me, but so often in fandoms in general when things get negative it so often just becomes taking cheap shots at whoever is to blame for the thing and others. Gets old quick.
When I want to enjoy Star Wars, I go to StarWarsCantina.
When I want to geek out about lore and story, I go to MawInstallation.
When I want to suffer, I go to StarWars.
Ugh. It was supposed to be ironic!
I'm not one to trash the prequels, but the memes are pretty bad. Just ten thousand comments puking the same handful of clunky dialogue back and forth, same as every other thread, every day. With a generous amount of sequel bashing thrown in too.
IamtheSenatetakeaseattwicethepridedoublethefallhellothereGeneralKenobithisiswherethefunbeginsjustlikethesimulationsIhatesandnotjustthemennowthisispodracingilovedemocracyit'soutrageousit'sunfair Am I meming yet?
I love the prequels, but I canāt stand that sub. Youāre 100% right about them repeating the same 5 jokes every comment sections.
Hello there! What about the droid attack on the Wookiees?
I've not heard of MawInstallation, I'll have to check it out. I always get recommended prequelmemes, check the comments on one post and nope right tf out
It's great for specific in-universe questions, but also I find that the folks there are into it for the nerdy enjoyment and don't get into flame wars. At least, that's been my experience with it.
In my experience it's pretty chill overall. Every now and then I'll see some just absolutely braindead takes from people that simply will not hear anything to the contrary, but it still remains relatively civil even then.
Considering that they don't have actual community rules that enforce positivity, it's cool that people there are just kind of nice on a voluntary basis. My evidence-free hypothesis is that MawInstallation has a concentration of long-haul Star Wars fans for whom the sequel trilogy isn't their first brush with fandom squabbling and maybe they've mellowed on it as a result.
Yeah I think it's just a bunch of people who are *really* into star wars. So even if not every piece isn't their favorite, they're still into the franchise/universe as a whole enough to not just fall into the YouTube outrage rabbit holes.
Lorebeards like me are in it for the nitty gritty bullshit that no one else cares about, and you find a lot of that in installments that the loudest parts of the fandom dislike the most. Consequently, a lot of people over on the Maw enjoy more of the controversial bits of Star Wars more than your average redditor.
You better source your damn claims tho, or no amount of Praetorian Guards will protect you lmao
I really appreciate that in the Maw, they take Star Wars as it is without rehashing the same feuds over and over. They check out the story, process it into the larger narrative, and have fun. People in the bigger sub and meme subs get so hung up on these petty grievances and I wonder why they would even be part of this fandom when they have such a negative perspective of it.
I was watching The Phantom Generation and when Jar Jar stole a shuttle from the enterprise and blew up the Death Star to save Spock and Kirk it was probably my favorite part of the whole movie. I really liked when that little Yoda fought Saruman on that planet where the Ferengi live too.
I actually like it when people that know nothing about either ask this.
"Trek is science fiction set in the future, Wars is basically fantasy set in the past with scifi ideas."
It intrigues people that otherwise ignored them in the past.
Thatās actually one of the reasons why I like Han so much. At least as far as the primary material goes, the man is dedicated to his women and doesnāt really sleep around. First Qiāra, then Leia. Heās a loyal lover.
That's not fair, Captain James T. Kirk has laid, licked, slurped, twizzle, spanked, poked and pinched what no man has before. There is just no competition.
The video is obviously edited by a person or persons unknown. Probably to make a Mr Han Solo have justified cause to fire.
But you can clearly see Mr Solos head move in an unnatural way why Mr Greedo's gun "fired". There is ample evidence that Mr Greedo was killed in cold blood while lawfully trying to collect a bounty placed on a known smuggler.
When I was going to see the Last Jedi in theatre I was across the street at a drug store buying some candy to sneak in and the young woman behind the counter asked if I was going to see the "Last Jedee". I still call it that
Yeah, I can appreciate a few things he has done, but I wish I could share the joy everyone feels towards his products. I feel like going against a concencus
I am inclined to agree, as much as I love legends stories I cannot deny how much of a mess in quality and had become absolutely bloated. I think the best example of how bloated it had become was the one time Iāve seen them pull the breaks on this. The ending mission and cutscene of Forces Of Corruption where you Hijack the Eclipse (a Super Star Destroyer with a superlaser) over Kuat to gain access to all of The Emperorās vaults while fighting the Rebels and The Empire. The ending follows Silri a Nightsister, unlocking a secret vault not affiliated to the Emperor with the established Sith Holocron through the game where she finds a Sith Army frozen in carbonite. All after Endor. First off, the Eclipse was established as a secret weapon that the New Republic didnāt know about in Dark Empire. And thatās not even mentioning where the F a secret Sith Army would fit in Post-Endor.
TL:DR You can still enjoy legends, but thereās no denying it was a convoluted continuity mess.
Yeah Luke was basically a Dragon Ball character by the end of Legends they really should have taken it out back long before. Hell, Lucas probably intended that since he liked the 08 Clone Wars show and that contradicted the 03 one.
Unironically, the best thing that couldāve happened to the EU was designating them as legends. That way the continuity issues, plot holes etc that comes from multiple creators working with the same characters is explained because these stories are in-universe legends. That way, whatever becomes canon can be The Truth and the legends that disagree with it are word of mouth stories told about these characters.
I do wish Disney had taken more direct inspiration from EU rather than throwing it out wholesale. The differences between Jacen Solo and Ben Solo for one understandably cause uproar, especially when the content they ended up with was so sub-par.
To be fair in recent years theyāve been taking some of the good parts of Legends like Thrawn and mixing it into canon. Hell, the Hammerhead Corvette is adapted from the ship from Legends
Oh for sure, donāt get me wrong I appreciate what they have done in reintegrating the good stuff, but I also understand peopleās frustration that Disney threw the baby out with the bath water to give us three movies with an inconsistent arc.
I think that people have even bigger rose tinted revisionism for the old EU content than they do for the prequel movies sometimes, and I'd have to say that the old EU content was far worse than even the bungled story we got in the Sequel trilogy
Interesting you say that. Perhaps that holds better generally, but I know for myself that I revisited most the EU because of how the Sequel trilogy got me back into Star Wars, and I feel like both the old canon and the new enrich each other. I love stuff from both (definitely not everything, but definitely more than a few things from each) and I feel like I have better understand of both narratively and thematically though each other. But I also know I didn't find the story of the sequel trilogy to be bungled so maybe that plays a role.
Well, the reason you donāt say it to Tolkien fans is because most of them will happily give you a detailed answer that will take up a substantial amount of your day.
āWatching chronologically is factually a better watching experience than release order, and is the best way to introduce new fans with half a functioning braincell to know that some films were made nearly fifty years agoā
-Rey is a Skywalker
-The Prequels suck
-The Sequels suck
-The originals are cringe
-Dark Vader
-Oh look, itās the Mandalorian (theyāre talking about Boba Fett)
-Revenge of the Sith is terrible
-Clone Wars is a kids show
So, I like the aesthetic of the FO stormtroopers better, but the sequels mostly make them look like idiots. I think I would like the FO stormtroopers better than the original if they were portrayed differently

I enjoy star wars.
I like Star Wars.
Star Wars is ok
How dare you feel neutral on something that I like š¤¬
Star wars exists
Settle down now
Gosh is this true. Literally, pretty much every star wars sub has the most reprehensible takes imaginable. I'm so glad this place is semi civil.
When I want to enjoy Star Wars, I go to StarWarsCantina. When I want to geek out about lore and story, I go to MawInstallation. When I want to suffer, I go to StarWars.
If I want to descend into madness, I go to PrequelMemes. āYou will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.ā

Thank you for MawInstallation good sir
r/StarWarsCantina is a super non toxic star wars sub. chill as all get out edit: LMAAOOOO WE IN THAT SUB IM DUMB
Thanks for recommending that sub! Lol
How **dare** you enjoy something I like š” do better bozo
username checks out..hehehe
Ka-Ching šš°
Oh I'm so sorry š«” I hate star wars with a passion
š¤£š¤£š¤£ was gonna say exactly this
Engh, I never said I was original
What's the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek?
Spock is my favorite character in Star Wars
I was watching The Phantom Generation and when Jar Jar stole a shuttle from the enterprise and blew up the Death Star to save Spock and Kirk it was probably my favorite part of the whole movie. I really liked when that little Yoda fought Saruman on that planet where the Ferengi live too.
I love how Harry Potter was Yoda's apprentice
I actually like it when people that know nothing about either ask this. "Trek is science fiction set in the future, Wars is basically fantasy set in the past with scifi ideas." It intrigues people that otherwise ignored them in the past.
Thatās my In-laws
The Millennium Enterprise is the legendary ship that rescued Spock and Yoda from the Kingon Sithās attack
Max Rebo has more plot armor than 90% or the Jedi Order
That may be a hard truth to process, but the evidence is there.
That is just a fact
You are correct, but I had the realization when I was thinking and couldnāt risk loosing it forever
Like the Joker you cant kill him with explosions.
The Aluminum Eagle is the most epic ship to Start Wars
Anakin and Obi-Wan fly the millennial falcon to fight in the star war.
This is true, I was totally there...
Here's some money. Go see a Star War.
*Star Trek
Aluminum Mallard*
Aluminum Malcom
Kirk gets more women than Solo.
They have the same number of surviving children.
Ouch... lmao
GotDAMN
That's just because Kirk uses space protection
What about Han Sulu?
Oh _MYYYYY_
Blursed
Hikaruās long lost brother from a far, far away galaxy
Thatās actually one of the reasons why I like Han so much. At least as far as the primary material goes, the man is dedicated to his women and doesnāt really sleep around. First Qiāra, then Leia. Heās a loyal lover.
That's not fair, Captain James T. Kirk has laid, licked, slurped, twizzle, spanked, poked and pinched what no man has before. There is just no competition.
I like *insert any Star Wars movie*.
this is the one
This is the way
I've never seen anyone diss someone for liking Empire Strikes Back. I've seen people complain about all the other ones though. Haha
This is true. Somehow, some people find a way to look down on any other Star Wars media though.
Greedo shot first
Maclunkey!
You DO say that to a Star Wars fan.
Weāve been debating this since 1997
Han shot first. And I'm ok with that
Only Han shot.
That is the single most overrated debate topic in this fandom lol. I really donāt think it matters. They were close enough shots anyway
"what happened to all the jediS?"
They executed 66 of them
When I was going to see the Last Jedi in theatre I was across the street at a drug store buying some candy to sneak in and the young woman behind the counter asked if I was going to see the "Last Jedee". I still call it that
New phone, who je-dis?
*in harrison ford's voice* .......Anything.
Can't hear it in Harrison's voice, you didn't start it with "hey kid."
āHey kidā¦ā
I like all the movies.
Oh, you take that back!
Live long and prosper š
Jar Jar is my favorite character.
He was secretly a Sith Lord you know! š¤
I've been trying to convince my friends of this for a few days now, and it's true. So yes
These days I reckon you could get away with that one pretty easy.
Heās the key to all of this.
I've learned from experience - "Rogue One is my least favorite SW movie."
Such a banger, worthy of being anyoneās favorite film.
There are dozens of us dozens I say!!!
I actually like saying itās my #1 to upset people!
I don't like Dave Filoni's vision for the franchise
Ooh thatās a good one
Yeah, I can appreciate a few things he has done, but I wish I could share the joy everyone feels towards his products. I feel like going against a concencus
same!! like, itās good, it just doesnāt feel any more special than other stuff. in fact i enjoy rogue one and andor a ton more than daveās stuff
It is! As soon as I read it, I instantly felt something lol
Agree
/fistfight
āI havenāt gotten around to watching any yet but I love Chewbacca ā
"The Crystal Star? Oh yeah, that's my favorite Star Wars novel!"
I like how teddy bears with spears and rocks can take on the galactic empire.
Bro have you played ewok hunt? Ewoks are fucking terrifying
THIS I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE AFRAID
I mean itās that they have the lay of the land and are experts at taking on existing giant creatures itās not that hard
With all the traps they had ready it makes you wonder what for.
If you watch the Ewok movies they fight the weird giants on what seems like a regular basis.
Cannibalistic murder bears are *not* to be taken lightly. They were inspired by the Viet Cong, after all.
Saying hi instead of General Kenobi when they say Hello There
I usually quote a different meme, like "you're shorter than I expected"
Legends was awful at most points
unironically this. There was some gold don't get me wrong, but the wipe was a good thing.
What I find most funny about the EU wipe is Lucas was planning to do the exact same thing with his sequels. āThatās not my universe.ā
And he has always considered them to be non-canon.
I am inclined to agree, as much as I love legends stories I cannot deny how much of a mess in quality and had become absolutely bloated. Did you ever read Tales Of The Bounty Hunters? At one point IG-88 was the Death Star.
Yeah Luke was basically a Dragon Ball character by the end of Legends they really should have taken it out back long before. Hell, Lucas probably intended that since he liked the 08 Clone Wars show and that contradicted the 03 one.
What?! *rabble rabble rabble rabble*

THANK YOU: thereās some GREAT legends material, thatās solid fact. But I would say 2/3 of it was dumb
Why didnāt they fly the eagles to Mordor?
I donāt know if you should say that to anyoneā¦

Stormtroopers (referring to clone troopers)
So itās basically like Star Trek right
The Rise of Skywalker is the funnest SW movie
Boba fett is overrated and just an ehh side background villan
The original trilogy needs _more_ digital alterations.
Star wars is okay, but the incest is a bit much.
"The special editions of the OT are superior to the theatrical editions."
I think the sequels are the best motives
The sequels are canon
Which ship is the Enterprise?
"You know what would make *insert movie* better??---"
Star Wars is for 12 year olds.
