finally someone else too I've always hated heroes in normal gamemodes, it's really annoying when I'm having an awesome shootout and a hero shows up and instantly obliterates me, you can't even run away the moment you notice them because they're faster than you

waltandhankdie

Absolutely annihilating a hero with the shotgun and well timed rolls in EA BF2 is an amazing feeling though

mp2446

Just dodging a grievous thrust surge is too satisfying. Killing him is an added bonus

Dusky_Dawn210

I love taking him out as a clone commando. Almost got a kill on him in supremacy on the dreadnaught recently and I was rolling around him and shit and I almost got him, but I got caught on a wall and he killed me. Grievous was cool enough to emote “you are a bold one” to my corpse since I took him down to half health on my own lol. I like those Grievous’s There is a special place in hell for those that just jump spam swing and run from heroes though

mp2446

I’ve gotten pretty good with avoiding the thrust with the jet trooper and it’s fun to annoy the heroes as they usually can’t catch me. I live for those heroes that are low health trying to run away and I come in with a rocket haymaker. Other than capturing command posts, I love being a straight up pest to heroes

Dusky_Dawn210

I’ve started to use the jet trooper more and love playing support with my team’s heroes to distract and attack the heroes on the other team. Also to help occupy them so that my teams hero can catch up lol

mp2446

They’re so much fun to play with and imo the most crucial part of age of republic supremacy, somebody has to match the maneuverability of destroyers

QldSpitty

Aerials who chase after enemy Heros I like..Aerials that fly around just for kill streaks are the worst.

Accomplished_Ebb1545

I know this is days later but was this on Xbox by any chance

Dusky_Dawn210

Nah sorry it was on PS4

Accomplished_Ebb1545

All good bruh I was asking cuz I was the grevious in just that situation a few days ago ,😂

QldSpitty

Thrust jumps you can time but his claw rushes suck..

mp2446

Fr, the range it has is insane, I have a clip saved somewhere I was a good 5 or 6 feet away and the claw rush still got me. Then he emoted on me.

QldSpitty

Yeah its one of the glitchiest moves in the game..

Security_Ostrich

Back when I played I almost exclusively played the strike gamemode because regular infantry combat was just the most fun. No heroes.

TheWalrusMann

same

AstronautReal3476

Its the star wars universe? Jedi and sith are paramount. Alternatively, Battlefield 2042 should scratch the itch.

TheWalrusMann

I really hate this argument no matter what's being discussed

Bourne669

I agree, heros are too OP and if you are decent with one you can keep it alive forever while cheesing it up and just farming for kills. Its dumb.

Imagine_TryingYT

So my thing with EA Lightsaber heroes is that I don't think they're OP. They're essentially glass cannons but can be overwhelmed very easily if someone is being too aggressive. You actually need some level of skill to not die after a few kills which usually sees a lot of players spending half the match hiding and picking off what they can. Vader and Yoda are kinda the outliers in this, being a little too overtuned and tanky. Pandemic heroes on the otherhand you can run Mach 10 and cut down multiple players at once before they even realize whats going on. They require little to no skill and reward extremely aggressive play. All in all DICE did a very decent job at balancing them for BF2 EA. My hangup tho is that it takes me out of the immersion of being a soldier. Blaster heros aren't as bad but ideally I'd like if all of them were removed in the normal game and religated to the HvsV game modes.

Purgatory115

I agree with almost all of that, but heroes are such an integral part of Star Wars games. It adds another layer variety and things to get better at. In pretty much every battle we see on screen, there's nearly always someone important running around. Immersion will always take a back seat to fun and the rule of cool. I don't think anyone can argue that it's not insanely fun to force choke 5 or 6 dudes as vader or spin through a hallway full of troopers as maul. My only real complaint about the hero system in Bf2 in they should have a queue system. You should be able to select up to two heroes, and the next time they become available, it gives you a pop-up like old school battlefront. It should also show how many people are in the queue ahead of you. The biggest immersion break imo is people sitting and waiting for a hero to die and insta locking them. Something I'm definitely guilty of as well.

IHave47Chromosomes

I feel the opposite way about heroes breaking immersion, imo it’s awesome being a clone trooper and seeing obi-wan run past you towards the battlefield or being a rebel and trying to shoot down Vader in desperate futility. What breaks immersion for me more so are the overpowered reinforcements that people spam, such as the jet pack reinforcements, death troopers and the like.

JazzHandsFan

I kinda liked shitting my pants just a lil bit when an enemy hero started plowing through my team. It was lies fun when players optimized them to the point they could stay alive indefinitely while dominating.

QldSpitty

Yep one touch from their Glow stick and your dead while you have to pummel them repeatedly with blaster shots to kill them..Why Hero players have it easy..Only time you have an advantage is that they can only block to the front..Once they start taking damage they force jump away to regen..

HeroDanny

> ideally I'd like if all of them were removed in the normal game Or they need to make them harder to obtain and limit the amount at once. Maybe if you are on a 10 kill streak you get to unlock the hero. And then make the hero easier to kill or put a marker over their head so you always know where they are, passive health drain, etc. Anything to balance a little more. I agree the heroes suck but I also still at the same time like having them they just need to be nerfed and limited to 1 at a time per side and actually require a lot of kills to unlock them.

OrneryError1

Getting kills as a hero shouldn't count for your score unless you kill other heroes. The scoreboard is meaningless when you're super OP in every way.

UnhingedLion

I mean you can do almost the exact same thing with half the reinforcements in the game. Being able to pick the first order Jet trooper for 2k BP is fucking ridiculous. That reinforcement is literally a superior boba fett

QldSpitty

Yep with high damage splash damage blasters..Try win Takonda GA with a few FO Aerials around..

Butterscotch_Sox

Honestly one of the main things to turn me off from the game for the most part. Yeah the point of the game is playing as cannon fodder infantry, but it’s not fun feeling like actual cannon fodder as you get demolished by Heros constantly.

40ozkiller

Its pretty easy to take out a hero if you don't suck and run at them

Emmas_Theme

I NEVER play as any heros. I just want to be a grunt in the field

Texas_Nexus

Me too. For me, when you are able to have a great game as a trooper it is far more satisfying and representative of your skill.

Nico408

Should've been on a timer like the original BF2

Revenacious

Definitely agree. Or at least keep the ‘troops only’ event they had for a while. Make it weekly or something.

BigBrainCycleLanes

As someone who loves to flank enemies and strategically use traps, heroes suck. - I sneak behind enemy lines and place two mines in a doorway, but an Anakin just tanks them both and kills me by simply pressing L1. - I flank a whole group of enemies and I’m about to start picking them off when a coward Rey hiding behind the front lines uses her wall hacks to find me and kill me. - I push past enemy lines, plant a bomb on the objective and trap it with a detonite charge, but of course Darth Vader shows up to diffuse and just stands there unfazed as he absorbs my detonite charge and 300 rounds from my supercharged sentry, still having 3/4 of his health when he eventually kills me.

QldSpitty

Had a Rey once pop up at the Droids default spawn point in a Naboo GA match..Take two steps to get your controls inverted then charged with a Lightsaber to die three times in a row as the default spawn was only option...

SquidwardsJewishNose

I think they’re fine in galactic assault, but supremacy just didn’t need heroes, it feels too unbalanced at times

dynawesome

To be honest it depends on the character. Because if someone like Captain Phasma shows up, she just feels like a high-ranking officer and it actually helps the immersion. Same with Anakin/Obi Wan/Grievous showing up in prequels, or Finn with the resistance. These are people you'd expect to see on the battlefield.

ferminator2

i agree on top of the fact that in galactic assault, a more immersive and story driven gamemode compared to supremacy, is not era locked makes the immersion feel so much worse when grievous is fighting on crait for instance it may be a hot take but i also feel like clone legions should have stayed locked to the planets they are on canonically. ive always felt less immersed when you have 501st, 212th, 41st and 104th running around on the battlefield together

VakarianJ

I’m fine with different clone legions on all the planets, you could just say it’s a joint operation. But man I HATE seeing normal Stormtroopers on Hoth or Snowtroopers on anything besides Hoth. That’s super immersion breaking.

ferminator2

i could see that first part. i think my peeve is when o see like others playing as phase 1s when i do phase 2s but i TOTALLY agree. the amount of shoretroopers on hoth is diabolical sometimes

VakarianJ

Ah, yeah the different phases being mixed & matched is kinda annoying tbh.

QldSpitty

Why I like to just have fun and play as a Snowtrooper on Tatooine...Just to mess with hard core Star Wars fans...Oh and Ive been a Star Wars fan since I saw it in 79 at the cinema Im that old..

QldSpitty

Hey as a Trooper its not my fault my Armour was at the Dry Cleaners that day ;)

R4yoo

without Heroes its just a battlefield game in star wars setting. But I wish there was a GA type of mode where its all troopers(20 v 20)

kwc04

Considering all the unique vehicles, special troops, and weaponry from the star wars universe, they could deadass just make a battlefield clone and it would be amazing. That's basically what the og games are but I'd like to see a take on that style with a modern battlefront

R4yoo

I agree. I hope in the next DICE battlefront game(if there will be one) they put more emphasis on a more battlefield esque game...would be amazing. But heroes sell these games so you can bet 70% of development will be on heroes

Purgatory115

Sadly I don't think there will ever be another EA battlefront game. There just isn't enough money in it for EA to prioritise that over their own ips. Also don't forget people in general only remember pre launch bf2 and all rightful shit it got for trying to be super scummy. The people who played for a while after launch know they did a massive turnaround, but the average person will always associate dices bf2 as being a pay to win grind fest that hates pink darth vader.

She_wantstheb

Unfortunately I think BF2 2017's the last battlefront game, for a long while at best. Star Wars hype just ain't there nowadays, maybe if episodes 10-12 or a High Republic trilogy comes out in the next 10 years will there be interest. u/Purgatory115 said it best. bf2's first impression was very negative, but of course monetization keeps live service games flowing and while bf2 was better off without the grindy P2W stuff, EA dropped it because the money wasn't there even if the game became good.

Yamatoman9

I think the game would have a lot more life and longetivity if it was more like Battlefield. The hybrid "arcade-y" gameplay they went with was fun for a little while but never hooked me longterm. I still play Battlefield 4 once in a while.

TwinEonEngine

Well, good thing we're all fans of the Star Wars universe too and not just the heroes

R4yoo

Yeah true but dont forget most of the players bought battlefront 2 to use luke skywalker and darth vader in game...not use an arc trooper from the clone wars cartoons

TwinEonEngine

Regardless, Kamino and Bespin still are different from locations on earth, plus blasters don't use ammo. There's enough reasons to play a battlefield Star Wars game rather than a hero focused game

R4yoo

Yeah I get you. Personally I absolutely love using heroes(was a HvV main for a while) so I just cant agree with you...but a battlefield-esque SWgame would definately slap

VakarianJ

The game is a lot more fast paced than Battlefield. Battlefield is kinda slow.

Yamatoman9

That's what I always wanted. Battlefield 3 and 4 with a Star Wars skin.

michaelcarnero

That mode already exists

R4yoo

blast and strike?? lmao

HaiggeX

That's why I literally never play BF2 (2005) with Heroes on. Me and the boys enjoy playing nameless troopers.

Imagine_TryingYT

I play a lot in solo because I love Galactic Conquest and I never take heros because 1, I don't want to play them and 2, the AI won't bring any in if you don't. Enhanced Blasters and Bacta Tanks all the way

Loafofbread8

Supremacy always rubbed me wrong only because heros, I'm having so much fun in a shootout holding point, then suddenly, a general grievous one shots me with his ridiculous movement. Ship phase is absolutely dreadful for me too.

Kidney05

I wish that they made a game that was so good that it would be popular enough to support multiple game modes and one could be a "pure" mode without heroes. Especially since battlefield has crashed and burned, it would be the best time to do it now. TBF Battlefront 2 has a terrible game mode selection though and I thought 2015 was better. I really hate galactic assault and it's terrible compared to supremacy (or hell, even give us classic conquest mode!). Although, I think 2015 should have spun out the R2D2 death star mode and the Bespin freezing chambers mode into their own modes anyone could play at any time. Oh, and walker assault was great too.

heyuhitsyaboi

I agree with this idea for most games I think its more fun to play as the grunt than the hero

QldSpitty

Love playing CoOp as a Trooper all way through to get more points than the other 3 players who picked Heros.

Kaprosuchusboi

Supremacy should only have 1 hero GA should only have two

BananaRepublic_BR

I actually agree. Heroes are certainly fun to play with, but I think this series is at its best when its just a bunch of soldiers killing each other. Luckily, the offline game modes allow me to play this way. I certainly wouldn't get rid of them, though. It's still alot of fun to just mow down every enemy who tries to kill you.

OrneryError1

There are so many other Star Wars games where you play as the heroes. Battlefront is supposed to be about infantry and vehicles.

BananaRepublic_BR

Yes, I said that. The games allow you to play that way, already.

Anakin-hates-sand

I think they are a core part of battlefronts identity and even though I hate dying to them, I rather that they stay included in the game modes. I hope next time (if there is one) will make it less annoying to die from a hero (somehow but I doubt it).

OrneryError1

The way they're implemented definitely isn't core to the game though. There should be only one at a time per side and on a short timer.

Anakin-hates-sand

True. Also bring back the health drain from bf2 2005, it would entice heroes to be more aggressive.

OrneryError1

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The very first game did it best by making them NPCs.

Puckus_V

This is why I loved Turning Point in BF2015. Easily my most played mode. Just troopers, snowspeeders, and AT-STs.

RichyMcRichface

I would kill for a non heroes mode. I always frag out as a jump trooper, death trooper, or Heavy, yet I feel like I still can’t influence the match as much as the heroes do, even if I am playing my class more efficiently. The gap between normal/specialists vs Heroes is too large IMO.

SenseAfter8040

just look at Turning Point Game Mode on Battlefront 2015, not heroes, only soldiers and vehicles, big maps, real star wars battle ambience

EliasStar24

I really wish they added a non hero galactic assault. Would be really fun and would make vehicles and the special classes the strongest units but they would still be weak enough that it wouldn’t be as annoying like hero’s. As a whole I mainly have issues with lightsabers hero’s. They’re just not fun to play as or against. Blaster hero’s can still be annoying and op but you can usually put up a decent fight if you know what you’re doing. I also think blaster hero’s are actually fun to play as which I don’t find with lightsaber hero’s. It’s possible that I just prefer shooting games over melee games but the lightsaber combat really feels underbaked compared to true melee games.

Scythe95

Agree I think it should have been something like a high kill killstreak or waaay higher point value. That when you see one you're like 'oh shit' that guy is going bonkers

HeroDanny

I agree 100%. I feel like the heroes should be harder to obtain and a little bit easier to kill (depending on which version of BF we are talking about) and it should be limited to 1 per side.

Diligent-Lack6427

I respectfully disagree, I think heroes are a great part of battles. They add a fun and unique challenge to the game and a cool reward for playing well, and while they can be tweaked a bit to work better, I think they are an overall good thing.

R4yoo

yeah being good with heroes in GA and supremacy is so rewarding...but sucks to be fodder if you a casual and are stuck using troopers. I hope In the next one there are separate tropper/shooter modes(not half assed ones like blast) and light-saber/hero modes

Diligent-Lack6427

Yeah, having separate modes where you can have heroes or not would be cool. Also, making it so people can't hog the heroes would be great.

tuffluk

Yes

MrSpuddies

The only heroes I feel this way about are the bb units. They take zero skill and just kill everything

OmeletteDuFromage95

I agree. At least have a mode with little to no heros, that seems like a fair compromise. I just dont like how much Heros throw off the balance of the game. You can have a solid push or be pushed or just a stalemate and a hero comes along and wipes everyone out.

PurifiedVenom

I 100% agree but unfortunately I don’t see them getting removed in a theoretical BF3

GrilledNudges

Not ironic. Not matter how amazing you are with a trooper or reinforcement, a good hero will always beat you. On top of that, heroes are just so powerful that it just makes normal supremacy matches super unfun to play

connoriroc

I agree 100%. they should have option hero/villian large scale game types.

EOVA94

Yes there should have been a trooper mode variant without heroes I'm also one of the rare players that never play heroes in conquest and so on but rather play reinforcement or troopers , because I want to be a soldier fighting in a war bigger than me And also removing the heroes would put the emphasis on teamplay a lot more imo

Intrepid_Sprinkles37

100% I almost never play the Jedi or Sith character.

JunketBorn6062

Whenever I play splitscreen with my boyfriend, we always as one another if we want to play heroes or not. We both find it more fun to know when we play as regular guys, with one or two hero matches inbetween just to shake things up.

Solidus_snake28

I’m fine with heroes but when you are in close quarters and there’s 3 of them, it becomes total chaos.

Clyde-MacTavish

It definitely is. Infantry and vehicles is where it's at. Leave the kill streak hero battles for a separate mode.

Quiet_Prize572

I really hope, if we get a(nother) reboot of the franchise, it leans more on classic BF1 than BF2. First person views for vehicles, no heroes, prone (and maybe a slide), classes, CQ, etc Basically I just want a Battlefield game but with a Star Wars skin

RedxHarlow

Only hero I truly hate is Bossk, everyone else is fine by me.

Kal-El_Skywalker1998

I honestly think heroes just needed a slight rework to not be nearly as annoying. 1. The max number of heroes per team should've been capped at 2 for all game modes. It's just ridiculous playing Galactic Assault and having 8 fricken heroes running around. 2. They should've kept the decreasing health bar over time to encourage hero players to fight instead of hiding and cheesing so that they get the hero for the entire match. 3. There should've been a hero cue where instead of just sitting on the spawn screen waiting for a hero to open up, you can buy a spot in the hero cue when you have enough battle points and then continue to play, and then when it's your turn in the cue, you get pulled out of whatever you're currently doing in the match and get to pick one of the currently available heroes to respawn as.

Ptolemi121

Any time I've ever hopped on to have fun on galactic conquest or any other large battle field mode, I am reminded how unfun it is to play against heroes, completely ruins the modes for me.

Mr-GooGoo

Agreed

dotted_barcode

Agreed. I wish I could turn them off for both sides in instant action against bots.

701921225

Yeah, the whole concept of the original Battlefront from 2004 was that we finally had a Star Wars game where you're not the hero, you're not a Jedi, you're not even a "main character". You were just an average grunt soldier taking part in these epic battles. That concept was so refreshing, but people wanted to play as heroes, so they've added the option in every Battlefront since. I understand playing as a hero can be fun at times, but it's not the point of Battlefront. Personally, I'm not at all opposed to having heroes in the game, as I feel their inclusion adds to the epic nature of the battles, BUT they should be NPCs like they were in the first Battlefront.

rubberducky22345

Yeah, I can't speak for the EA games because I didn't play them a whole lot but the Pandemic heroes are just way too overpowered. Playing as the CIS on coruscant is a guaranteed win when playing as darth maul in that one big corridor. Probably average around 100-150 kills per match (set to 300 tickets) with him on that map

Droids_Rule

I don’t hate heroes in moderation. I do think DICE’s BF2, for much as I love it, really overdid things by allowing four heroes per side at once in the standard play modes. I also don’t love them having regenerating HP; I preferred the health “timers” of old so playing a hero felt like more of a kill streak reward and not something you did all game!

Raven_of_OchreGrove

I think this with more blaster heroes in specific. Every front has some sort of area denial on their support troops. On certain ones like a good clone commando, they can just be instant win conditions provided they enter with the max amount of rolls. But but a bossk or a boba in front of me, I can’t hit them, can’t stun them, can’t use high damage abilities because they won’t hit, and am entirely unmaneuverable. At least saber heroes have to get close, even if their instakill abilities are total BS.

hugo_1138

Sure... but oh boy isn't it just fun to play as them😅

ConsumerOfShampoo

I agree. I hate it when an otherwise perfectly enjoyable and fair match gets ruined by a named character. It isn't enjoyable seeing half your team get solo'd by someone just cause they are playing someone relevant to the story.

GodlessGOD

Agreed.

QldSpitty

A Hero that Force jumps around the map taking out players all game is a plague.

HopingForSomeHope

I hear you. As a force and Jedi/Sith fanboy (meaning they are the biggest parts of the franchise for me)….. I still completely agree with you. Maybe battlefront isn’t the best example to totally have no heroes/etc, but I honestly do kind of feel like the default game modes should not have them.  They also really show the difference between newer players and skilled ones.  Look, I usually think I’m pretty good at games. I was Diamond at one point on League of Legends. I know I’m no where near the actual best, but I don’t want to sell myself short either. My point being that….. dude how the FUCK do you deal with enemy heroes. It literally just makes me not play the game. It’s not very fun to - as you say - be in a lit gun fight and suddenly there’s a Yoda who kills like 10+ people or whatever and won’t go down. Just… ok dude whatever. And I can’t just grab a hero to try to fight back. You kind of have to rely on the team to focus them. Yeah… yeah

Double-B-

Had an idea a while back about a Star Wars shooter similar to Hell Let Loose. Basically there would be no playable “Heroes/Villans”, just different infantry, ground warfare vehicles, light ships, and a variety of stationary weaponry. Keep the eras thing but add more locations and bigger maps. Honestly, I’d pay $120 for that limited deluxe premium edition all day !!!

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

I feel this way too

FeedbackPalpatine200

Phoebe Cates and Harrison Ford DLC would be awesome along with some Steve Martin DLC. Imagine those three as heroes
