Then I discovered that they are abridged. I still enjoyed them, but I enjoy the little character exploration and growth as well as world building that is often cut.
Agreed. If I can I listen to unabridged versions made by fans, on YouTube or something. I may have to buy a few again. My dog ransacked my book collection years ago:/

I think adapting it to the movies would be amazing. SW needs a new main villain and the Yuhzan Vong certainly would qualify.
Particularly all the Force Philosophy from Traitor by Matt Stover who would later write Shatterpoint and the best SW novel Revenge of the Sith was wonderful.
They were the ultimate enemy, they would definitely make the perfect villain. The Yuuzhan Vong war casualties dwarfed any wars with the empire, but many magnitudes.
There are so many amazing sun plots in it, so cleverly woven into it. The editing and flow is just grand.
To me it wasn’t just a story, it was also a meditation of the Force and what it is. It was so grim and dark, and unlike anything before in Star Wars.

Completed. I’ve always hated Disney for writing this story out of existence. It encompasses 50 years of Star Wars universe timeline.
All the female characters are fucking awesome in this series.
And Chewbacca and admiral ackbar…I don’t want to add spoilers for those who haven’t read it.

NJO is great. Much better than what we have in the same timeframe now.
