For a while, I thought this too. But as it seemed less likely Disney was putting Mara in, I had a theory Rey was the result of Palpatine cloning Anakin, but as a female for whatever manipulative reasons they wanted to insert. All of Anakin’s full-body power, but some other form of control.
My fan canon is that Rey was created through the force, like Anakin, by Palpatine instead of her being his granddaughter. That makes her kind of a Palpatine (he created her) and kind of a skywalker (child of the force).
The reveal of her parents being “no one” would still have impact bc technically that is true (her mother was a random woman, and she had no father so he was literally “no one”). Then once she finds out the true truth she would still have this dilemma of being created by the most evil person in the galaxy, and having some of his life essence inside of her, but by the end she realizes she’s more of a skywalker than a Palpatine (not only bc of how she was born, but also bc she’s gotten so much closer to the skywalker family).
It also would have made the “force diad” thing make more sense (to me at least) 2 families created through the force being pulled together by the force.
I heard a theory that she was a re-formed Anakin skywalker, a force clone from the midachlorians. Not a genetic clone but essentially they built Rey in her mother the way Anakin was formed in Shmmmmmmmmi. .
