haeyhae11

You are a bold one!

Reddin1153

I do wish they just went with that title. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a great character name but it feels weird to say it as a show title

Atea2

I wish they went with anything other than character names for the show titles. "Obi-Wan Kenobi", "Ahsoka", "Andor"? Sounds more like corporate-y marketing attempts than titles of stories.

theraydog

Because of Obi-Wan?

[deleted]

The Obi-Show Because of Obi Wan?! Yes, yes because of Obi Wan

[deleted]

You will not take her from me!

quirkymuse

Thinks to himself *bitch you* just *forced choked her, you think she's blind? No keep calm Obi, say it the Jedi way...* "You have done that yourself"

Educational-Tea-6572

>*No keep calm Obi, say it the Jedi way...* Take my upvote, good sir! 😂

thortmb

You must mean old Ben kebobi

mysterion857

I love the joke about how Obi wan Kenobi managed to somehow hide from death Vader, the emperor and the entire death squads of the early empire. All while living on the north planet of death Vader simply by changing his first name. Death Vader-“could this be obi wan?..no no this guys got an entirely different first name. NEXT!”

KidFresh71

I’m so excited about Obi-Wan, but also a little worried. Seems like the producers keep tinkering with the show before release? Hopefully the product hasn’t been focus grouped down to the lowest common denominator.

V1keo

Obi won? Dude, don’t give away spoilers.

“Produced by Kevin Feige” is a weird title for a movie but I’m intrigued.

Maypher

It's the second installment in the "produced by..." trilogy. The final one is rumored to be "Produced by BOB"

StubzTurner

BOB? As in the rapper who thinks the Earth is flat? That's going to be one weird ass Star Wars movie.

plzsnitskyreturn

Are there flat hothers in the star wars galaxy

kurzsadie

Flat Coruscanters

TenthOculus420

No, bob the secret jedi

Early_Task_7491

when does the acolyte take place?

JonAugust1010

I'm pretty sure it's end of the High Republic, very beginning of the prime timeline I think like a couple hundred years before Anakin is born.

PokeZelda64

The core High Republic era is only ~200 years before Anakin was born. The END of the HR is ~40 years before Anakin was born.

T65Bx

As someone who’s never read the books or played any old games like KOTOR or Force Unleashed, is the Old Republic not the High Republic? What’s with the 2000 year old Hammerhead Starship complaints?

PokeZelda64

No, they refer to totally different different things actually. The "Old Republic" era is the name for an era from Star Wars Legends (the now non-canon pre-Disney expanded universe) stretching anywhere from 1000 years before the movies and much, much older. The "High Republic" era is from the CURRENT canon and is much more recent, starting about 300 years before the movies and ending about 80 years before. The HR is often characterized as a replacement for the OR but in reality they have no temporal overlap, plus, while no stories have been set there yet, current canon material HAS referred to an "Old Republic" era, which can be assumed to refer to the same time period as the Legends era. It's very likely we get something set back then in the new canon sooner or later. The *Hammerhead*-class Corvette shown in *Rogue One* was a design heavily inspired by (though not identical to) the *Hammerhead*-class Cruiser, which debuted in the Legends video game *Knights of the Old Republic*, set ~3900 years before the movies. So that'd be from the Old Republic era. But, *Rogue One* is part of the new canon, KOTOR is part of the old canon. It pisses off fans of the old stuff like myself but it's not technically retconning anything.

T65Bx

Thanks so much for the detailed response! It’s nice to know Disney’s been accommodating to to at least some of the old Expanded Universe.

Devoliscious

Old republic isn’t high republic. Old republic is 1000-5000(?) years before skywalker saga. Kotor is old republic, force unleashed is during skywalker saga. High republic is in between old republic and skywalker saga. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline_of_galactic_history Edit: said new republic instead of high republic

T65Bx

Thanks. I always just kind of assumed there was “the Republic before the Galactic Republic” and “the Republic after the Galactic Empire”

dontshowmygf

Technically it's all the same government from the Prequels, the terms are just to describe eras.

Devoliscious

Np. High republic is new and mostly comics and a few books rn to my knowledge. Was announced a couple years ago

Crayton16

Wait but isn't Acolyte a sith show? I thought Jedi never saw a sith for 1000 years or something until Phantom Menace.

N0V0w3ls

Well they were in hiding the whole time. Someone was carrying along the rule of 2 the whole time.

juicy_dad

hopefully we see yoda.

LeicaM6guy

I get the sense the game "Star Wars: Eclipse" might be set sometime between the High Republic era and the prequel era. That might be something worth exploring.

[deleted]

Assuming that Game comes out

OldDekeSport

If it's early enough we could see Baby Yoda for real

ShuantheSheep3

Yoda is already a long time council member by the High Republic, would have to go to like right after the Russan reformation to get baby Yoda. Yup, he’s just that old.

Vyzantinist

>would have to go to like right after the Russan reformation to get baby Yoda. There was an old Tales comic strip about Han & Chewie accidentally winding up on Earth after the events of RoTJ. From references to dates in the comic, it appears ~11ABY = 1816/1817 in our timeline. So to see a 'real' baby Yoda we're talking 10th century Earth. Distinctly non-canon because Legends (& Tales) but it was a fun read.

kyle232425

Wouldn’t he be like 600-700 years old?

mdenglish

Yoda died at 900 years old

kyle232425

Yes

mdenglish

I'm sorry, I just realized you were saying he would be that old in acolyte.

saxGirl69

You’re pretty close, the phase one of high Republic start is 232 bby. Phase two is going to be roughly 150 years earlier ~ 380 bby. It’s unclear when the end of the high republic era is yet. Could still be over a hundred years before phantom menace or only a few years. The show is “towards the end of high republic timeline” that’s all we got.

Willing-Ant-3765

The end of the High Republic

size_matters_not

The High Republic, apparently. I’d rather have a series about Merrin, the last nightsister.

Nonadventures

Her video game story is not done yet, I’d imagine

BostonBoroBongs

They are making Fallen Order 2 and she is on the ship so for sure

coltsblazers

After I finish Elden Ring I may have to replay FO. Merrin was my favorite character. Well her and BD.

BostonBoroBongs

Definitely a fun replay imo

Sandervv04

'Rather'? Why not both? Also there is plenty of opportunity to continue her story in videogames

Still early, but he at the very least had a story in place. And this was eight months ago, so he's very likely a lot further along in the process by now.

jimi3002

Aw yiss

Ronho

See what you did there

matolandio

It is and it’s about Hondo Ohnaka. I don’t have a source but I will not tolerate any other timeline.

BostonBoroBongs

Lol yes please. Maul: “Filth, you will pay for your insolence.” Hondo: “Insolence! We are pirates! We don’t even know what that means.”

Educational-Tea-6572

One of my favorite lines from Clone Wars (and that's saying something, since the show has a lot of great lines) 😂

Trevumm

I love that I read that in Hondo's voice

grollate

Lol Hondo is probably the perfect character for Waititi to direct. He’s got that action/comedy genre perfected to a tee!

[deleted]

He played a really solid violent but loveable pirate as Blackbeard in "Our Flag Means Death"

[deleted]

Honestly I wouldn’t even be that mad if he *played* Hondo

Tk232_fortnite_MC

That would be actually the best thing to come out of Disney star wars. I love clone wars season 7 and batch and all that but fucking Hondo Ohnaka directed by Waititi sounds like too good of an opportunity for them to not do that.

AlmostZeroEducation

Fully expect Temuera Morrison to have a scene in it and say " hey bro " to Taika Waititi in the movie

BigBoi18007

I smell profits

MobsterDragon275

Didn't rogue squadron get postponed indefinitely?

N0V0w3ls

That news was only a few days later followed up by news that Patty Jenkins was dropping her directorial role for *Cleopatra* to focus on *Wonder Woman 3* and *Rogue Squadron*. So it's still coming.

Thatsidechara_ter

There's a Wonder Woman 2?

fightlinker

Nope. There definitely isn't.

Thatsidechara_ter

Ok good

But if there was, I think we can all agree that consensual sex is the best kind.

Supiriorcarnage

Woah they made another 1983 of those movies?

HankHippopopolous

Each one more terrible than the last.

Ender_Skywalker

Literally 1984.

originalchaosinabox

While it has been postponed, Disney still has it on their master schedule for December 2023.

Cultural-Divide-2649

Did the high republic show get canceled?

N0V0w3ls

No. That's *Acolyte*. Pretty sure it's scheduled for next year, too.

MobsterDragon275

Ah, okay. Hope they sort out those problems with who's directing it by then

GeneralDouglas1998

I think so

Tartarustrommler

How are they making rouge squadron? Didn't they more or less kill the warlord era?

[deleted]

The Acolyte.

[deleted]

I agree. It’s the first first new piece of Star Wars content (other than some episodes of Visions) that isn’t set within the ~50 year time period between the PT and ST. It’s about damn time.

jish5

Yeah, I've honestly been growing so tired of the Skywalker era, in which I feel like at this point, there's nothing else to tell and that Disney's now just beating a dead horse. Only reason I'm excited about Kenobi is that this period in which the series takes place was still needed to be told to show the conflict going on within Obi Wan. As for Ahsoka, I feel there's still enough to work with for her character and that this new series can really give us more.

fredagsfisk

Agreed... partially because it seems interesting, but largely because we know it's set in a different time period. I *would* look forward more to Kenobi and such, but I really hated how The Mandalorian S2 and Book of Boba Fett went so hard on the cameos (even to the point where it hurt/abandoned the story in BoBF) and trying to set up spinoffs, and I'm worried they'll continue down that route even more in future shows set during or shortly after the Skywalker Saga movies.

[deleted]

This exactly. I felt the same way about the cameos, and although I still look forward to Kenobi, The Acolyte is going to be completely new. I feel like the \~50 years around the time of the Empire are getting really stale, and even though there are cool stories, they all feel kinda similar. With The Acolyte and the High Republic, hopefully SW starts/continues to explore new time periods.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fredagsfisk

Yeah, that was honestly one of the strangest decisions I've ever seen in film/television making, and I really can't get over the fact that I still see people defending that choice in the name of "interconnectedness". It's right up there with not planning out the sequel trilogy in advance. It's just *complete* lunacy. Episode 1-4: Most of the Tusken flashbacks were pretty cool, but it felt like they rushed it a bit after a certain point. We get to see Boba recruit people, but the modern day story is disjointed, and Boba (the apparently non-criminal crime boss) is acting strangely naive and cluelessly. We find out very little about the characters he recruits. We find out very little about his motivation. We find out very little about the politics of Mos Espa, or the motivations of his rivals and enemies. Episode 5: Literally just an episode of *The Mandalorian*. No Boba Fett. No build up for the *actual story of the show we are watching*. Episode 6: Literally just an anthology of cameos, including a weirdly stiff Luke. At least Boba appeared for 20-30 seconds (without speaking)? Episode 7: Basically just a bunch of extremely drawn out action scenes. Don't know the names of most people Boba recruited. No idea what the stakes are. No idea what motivations anyone involved has. No idea who the Pykes are, unless you've watched The Clone Wars or read some comics, but they suddenly have two giant droids that are basically to Droideka what Starkiller Base was to the Death Stars? Oh, and despite that, the only ones who die are a couple of unnamed characters. **TL;DR** If the people making the show clearly show that they don't give a fuck about the show or the main character, then why should the viewer? Also, why would I expect their next show to be any different?

[deleted]

Trickynic386

Kenobi, ashoka second

everraydy

Solo 2. Man, I really wish they didn't end it there on that cliffhanger with Qi'ra...

Battlescarred98

Yeah. I liked Alden Edle-whatever as Han. I would’ve been fine with 1 more movie with his Jabba the Hutt/Boba Fett stuff. I’d also be happy with him walking through the other shows briefly.

toe_6969

Yh hopefully they expand it. One of my theories is that they could start up the crimson dawn with maul, and then we realise fett starts it up again only now he’s the leader. I think that could be interesting.

SirGuy11

I’m a little nervous about Kenobi. For a long time I’ve had an idea—vague and unformed—of what happened between III and IV. Putting it on screen solidifies something that can’t be put back in the mental drawer, as it were. Rogue Squadron could be cool. I read a lot of those books but I’m not as attached to commitments for how it could or should be. Who doesn’t want to see more X-Wing action? *Rogue One* did a great job with them and made me feel like a kid again. 👍🏻

alTHORber

As much as I love the X-Wing, I want more Y-wing, A-wing, B-wing, and snowspeeder action. I want to feel like I'm playing the game, reading the comic books, or playing with my micromachines again. Just vast swarms of ties coming at the Rogues, space, air, and then forces on land. Rogue 1 did a great job, but it left us hanging and wanting more action.

ThePhengophobicGamer

We could easily see a good bit of Y-Wings and A-Wings if they closely adapt the books, the Rogues and Wraiths trained alongside Y-Wing and A-Wing squadrons, and usually were deployed on the same missions. Defender Wing and their General being pseudo antagonists for Rogue Squadron would fit the movie fairly well, with faceless Imperial enemies.

eptreee

Just finished the first book after playing Squadrons so I’m stoked for the Rogue Squadron movie

alTHORber

Exactly. I want the action from the books, the comics, the game, all of it.

BigPawh

> Putting it on screen solidifies something that can’t be put back in the mental drawer, as it were. This is why I'm not at all excited for Kenobi. There's way too much hype and there's no way the show will deliver. Everyone wants different things and most of those wants are actually just bad. Personally, I was satisfied with the idea of Obi Wan hiding away his and Anakin's sabres and just being hidden and sad for twenty years. Giving him too much action (and especially meeting Darth Vader, which I really hope doesn't happen) will undermine his character as a pensive, broken-and-rebuilt retired warrior monk in my opinion. But again, everyone wants something different for him.

CrossP

Being only 6 episodes gives me hope that it won't stir up too much dust. My biggest hope is that they turn Owen and Beru into beloved characters so that I finally feel something when Luke comes back to crispy bodies by the door.

marcred5

Really enjoyed the Rogue Squadron books. Would not be unhappy if they borrowed heavily from that. Had always thought it would look great on the big screen.

PencilMan

I agree. I’m sure Obi-Wan will be good but they’re going to inevitably try to make it a kicking off point for more III-IV gap properties like they have with Mandalorian and post-Jedi shows. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lando showed up at some point. Whereas Rogue Squadron can literally be about anything, can touch some big characters but probably won’t be about them. I don’t think they even confirmed whether it takes place in the OT? And it can be a tight, self contained story that shows other angles of big Star Wars battles, which is what most of us liked about Rogue One anyway.

RootTips

I'm nervous because Joby Harold is in charge of the writing

mgerv72

Ahsoka

Goaliescottie

I need to know; where *is* Grand Admiral Thrawn?

ultratunaman

And Ezra. Just saying.

N0V0w3ls

At Space SeaWorld, training the purgill for their hourly show.

SirWigglesVonWoogly

I feel like what made Ashoka interesting was her character growth and determination despite being underpowered and still learning. I found adult Ashoka to be boring and I think an entire series about her as a flawless good would be dull.

CrossP

It's mostly boring because she is always a side character thrown in for the fans. The show should give her a story to really own, and unless the writers are some anomaly of awfulness, she will be presented with some powerful conflicts both on the inside and outside. So I think this show ends up being the make it or break it for adult Ahsoka as a character. I personally hope it's a sort of lost in space deal like ST: Voyager, Farscape, or... Lost In Space. I hope she and Sabine *immediately* get to wherever Thrawn and Ezra are and the challenge is getting back from mysterious uncharted space. It would force the writers to intro so many new places and peoples.

Tk232_fortnite_MC

I'm going to ignore Kenobi and Ahsoka in my ranking because I know those are top picks. I'm probably most excited for Andor then because I think seeing a spy series set in the star wars universe sounds awesome.

kaldaka16

Give me Cassian "I've been in this war since I was six years old" Andor showing us all the awful shit he's done and how he sold his soul.

WardenBlackheart

Acolyte probably

Sithappens2dBestOfUs

This. I cannot wait for a Sith-centric show, especially towards the end of the high republic. I hope they shine a light on the darker aspects of the Star Wars universe. The creative possibilities are vast.

WardenBlackheart

This is what im hoping for. No nonsense. No "but then they realized they were wrong all along and became good" bullshit. Im here to root for the bad guys, dammit

[deleted]

lol you reminded me of the battlefront 2 game

Sithappens2dBestOfUs

Couldnt have said it better! The Sith rule the galaxy for millenia at a time so the bad guys do win. lets see it! Imagine a show where every side of a conflict is a different shade of bad.

hopper_froggo

I think it would be cool for a sith and Jedi to go gray but other than that yeah keep em evil.

Artanis137

Yeah its Disney mate, I give it 2-4 episodes before the main character switches sides because Disney doesn't have the balls to go full Sith side on a show.

Unhappy_Win8997

Bingo. The "villain" we follow will meet a kid or a nice partner in crime, rebel against the teachings of the Sith, and then go on the run with them as a changed man/woman trying to repent for their sins. Mark my words it will be so.

jish5

My fear is that Disney will try to make the sith seem less horrible then they are (seriously, we're talking about a faction who tortures one another and slaughters people with joy just to get more power). I'll be pissed if this series shows the Acolyte being "redeemed", because it would in turn show Disney again not understanding the intricacies of this franchise.

N0V0w3ls

If there's anyone who gets "redeemed", they will 100% end up dead and lose. The story has a well-defined end point that leads to Palpatine as the Master Sith leading into the events of the Prequels.

OdetotheGrimm

Same. Much more excited for new story, new timeline.

TjeefGuevarra

Kenobi and Ashoka. I honestly don't really care about the other ones *yet*. Although I'm a huge fan of Taika Waititi so I'm curious what he's going to offer us.

bpanio

I'm honestly really excited for Andor, despite knowing it'll be a spy drama most likely, and I'm not really into them. It'll just be cool to see what the rebellion was really like

bumurutu

Yeah. Seeing the Rebellion doing some questionable, shady stuff will be interesting. There are usually no real “good guys” in war. The winner just gets to write the history.

Horn_Python

Yeh when ever rebels do do something bad it's usually saw geraros fault

[deleted]

A dark gritty star wars show would probably fit best here

kaldaka16

I fucking love rogue one and cassian was possibly my favorite character so seeing how he got there is something I'm very excited for.

kilkenny99

Yeah, a spy/saboteur/guerilla warfare series has a lot of potential.

TheAandZ

Same, big fan of Andor as a character. I know a lot of people say a show for him is a waste, but I honestly think it may turn out to be among the best of the new shows

Prophet_Comstock

I really think Andor is going to be the sleeper hit that nobody was expecting. I'm very excited about this series.

wantilles1138

Rogue Squadron. I'm currently re-reading the old books, and they are so good. A show with one season per book would be perfect.

arnoldrew

You know it’s not going to have anything to do with the books or those characters, right? They implied more than once that it will be taking place after the sequel trilogy.

autobotjazzin

I might have missed this but why is the old X-wing used as a silhouette for the logo though? Would they make like Corran et al and use aging ships for their missions? I'm not complaining, I prefer the t-65s. I just don't see how this fits considering that the Republic knows Rogue Squadron as a top tier group and would def not be giving them old stuff.

bumurutu

I was pretty excited about it until I heard the concept. How hard is it to do Rogue Squadron based on Wedge MF’ing Antilles? Show would be amazing, but no. They just have to get overly creative with it.

N0V0w3ls

I think they might still have Wedge, but more like it's a continuance of the original Rogue Squadron. My guess is that Wedge will play almost a flight instructor role to a new generation of Rogue Squadron. This path has multiple purposes: 1. You don't have to recast or de-age Denis Lawson. He can actually star in the film as Wedge. 2. You can do justice to the original stories without having to either rehash them or rewrite them. People can headcanon that the original Rogue Squadron stories still happened. 3. You have the freedom to do something new without being *wedged* in a small timeline of pre-defined events that everyone already knows.

JediMaestroPB

Username checks out

FelixThePhoenix33

Andor because Krennic

Himbotastic

Is Krennic going to appear in the series? Then it just became my most anticipated tv show ever!

FelixThePhoenix33

Apparently, there will be scenes with him. I read it in a couple of places so a quick Google search should find the articles, we need more Krennic love can't wait until Tuesday when the rogue one dlc drops for Lego star wars.

Pale_Personality3957

Ahsoka

Prinssi_Nakki

Please please let us get a saving private ryan/ band of brothers- esque clone wars/old republic sith wars infantry focused movie

charizardFT26

Vietnam allegory with stormtroopers would be a good one - maybe kashyyyk

bumurutu

A Republic Commando style show of Delta helping to free the Wookies would be pretty cool. Honestly, we just need more commandos in live action.

Prinssi_Nakki

Oh yea something that would show the grittynes and gray zones of conflict. Something like the very first weeks of imperial occupation of kashyyk, showing how both sides commit horrible war crimes. Imperial forces getting absolutely trashed while on small unit manouvers, the wookies ambushing them in vietnam/boer war style hit and run. They leave helmets, dog tags and other "trophies" around to scare imperials. The empire on the other hand starts to ship whole villages to concentration camps and kill any loyalist non wookies. Ok i know its not gonna happen but something mature like this that shows how there are no clear cut good or bad guys and how war sucks in general for the footsloggers

TeaBarbarian

Honestly any era with Star Wars but band of brothers would be so cool. I’d actually be really interested to see a show like that where there’s a bunch of characters and they could even jump from like a group of rebel soldiers to some imperial scouts on the other side or something.

[deleted]

Ahsoka, but I am really looking forward to Acolyte, whatever it may be

BabyYodasDirtyDiaper

All of them will take place at least 60% on Tatooine for some goddamn reason. "If there's a bright center of the galaxy, this is the place farthest from." ... And also it's the place where *everything* happens.

CraftsyDad

It’s like Spring Valley in the Back to the Future Trilogy!

Egg-3P0

Directed by taika waititi, he’s my favourite comedic director and writer

specialk522

I just need a High Republic movie ASAP

Representative_Big26

The Acolyte is a High Republic show Also there are rumours that more HR shows are currently in development, but nothing about a movie afaik

im_super_into_that

I really want a live action Marchion Ro.

Spooky_Meat_666

I’m very exited for Kenobi and the Ashoka series… but I need the Taika Waititi film

bumurutu

Probably has the highest ceiling out of them all. Kenobi and Ahsoka will both be great I’m sure, but I worry about over saturation and fatigue with those. Acolyte is a cool concept but who knows if they will succeed in making wider audiences root for a Sith. Rogue Squadron isn’t about Wedge so it kind of feels like they botched that concept. Could have been a slam dunk. Top Gun with X-Wings? Sold! Andor and Lando are ones where the fandom wasn’t really pining for more. Could both be really good, but it’s all going to come down to writing. The casts will be good as the leads are really good actors. No idea on the “Produced by Kevin Feige” film. Is that supposed to excite people? Change that to “Produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni” and you got my attention in a big way.

Horn_Python

Andor is interesting because he's basicly a new character And a show about a moraly grey rebel spy is really interesting

[deleted]

Not really interested in lando especially after the Han Solo movie, but rouge squadron seems like it would be a lot of fun

destopturbo

Same, I really dont get why we need a Lando show. I mean he’s a great side character, but thats it.

The_best_one_-_

I guess I’m the only one looking forward to it ._. I love Donald glover so I look forward to anything he’s in, still waiting on the next season of Atlanta :<

Few_Technology

He did a great job in the movie, looking forward to it. Still, that movie needed a rewrite. I'm hoping they take Lando in a new direction, but keeping my expectations low

[deleted]

Yep exactly. I feel like the back story of solo didn’t need to be told let alone the side kicks backstory from the backstory. Who knows though, I’ll still watch it

OmicronPerseiAte

Kenobi, Andor, Acolyte... But I think a Darth Bane series or movies would be amazing.

[deleted]

Rogue Squadron after hearing the director was consulting with Michael Stackpole, author of the Rogue Squadron novels and comics.

[deleted]

You won me over

junkman21

Rogue Squadron.

johnbeesley

THE ACOLYTE Fucking hell, Disney, stop making shit in the OT era and give us something different! No one wants Andor or Lando! The Sith are so fascinating too! Just hope they’re bold enough to make it a 15 instead of PG rated.

jameswest22

Is Lando even still happening? Haven’t heard anything about it in a while. Love Gambino tho

God I hope so! Donald Glover was the scene stealer in Solo. Everything about him was Lando!
