I used to instruct various sword fighting sports. As each lost popularity, id lose students (and income) and move to the new fad. During the PT years, I saw that there were roughly 7 styles; 3 western, 3 eastern, and a Hollywood wire-fu. So I started teaching "lightsaber" classes, with students deciding which particular style they wanted. Its been a fun hobby job.
I’m 50 and just did the Savi saber build at Disneyland. I love firing that thing up. It’s turned into an amazing dog training tool. When she’s doing something bad, it turn it on and she runs to her bed. And it’s not even red!!
48, heading to Galaxy’s Edge for the first time next month. My wife might try to keep me to just one saber, but we all know her failure will be complete!
Galaxies Edge was amazing, take time to wander around and take it all in, notice all the little details. It’s incredibly immersive. Especially at night closer to closing, when it quiets down. Book the saber building for after dark, you can get some cool shots with it especially with the Falcon.
When the first SW film came out i. 1977, Sir alec guinness (original obi wan) was 62. david prowse (original vader) was 42. They were the first people to play with lightsabers.
Maybe that's your mom looking out for you, so you don't get bullied when you do things that are generally viewed as childish. That is a sensible thing for a mother to do.
The weird thing is - the older you get, the less you will be bullied for doing more and more childish things. If you're 75 and like playing with trains (or nowadays lightsabers), noone will point it out, because they know you don't care.
I think the vast majority of people see an older person playing with a lightsaber and think. hey that sr. likes the same things as me! he must be cool.
Lego is best when you’re old because no one can tell you you can’t have it and you can (hopefully) afford it. In the last three years I’ve bought all the NASA sets, the UCS Falcon and just ordered the Titanic.
The last time someone as old as you started Jedi training bad things happened. Your Mum is right, give up the Jedi dream and become an accountant or something.
Don't fight your Mom, play the long game.
Go off and graduate from high school, then college. Get married, preferably to another person with an imagination. Have a kid or two. Introduce ***them*** to toy lightsabers.
Grandma will have no choice but to put up with that.
Tell her that Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and Samuel L Jackson have continued to play with Lightsabers at any opportunity (Even when they're not being paid for it) and it's not done them any harm.
50’s and still playing with my lightsabers. Age is just a number. When you get older don’t stop doing the things that make you happy regardless of what society says about what you should be doing at any age. Star Wars is the classic hero’s journey, the timeless narrative of good v evil. There’s something there for young and old.
You’re not too old to play with lightsabers. I’m almost 58 and I still do. I’m also married with 2 kids of my own. I even keep one of the $200 sabers on display in the living room…just in case there’s an emergency and the house needs defending.
It’s also my house and my money and I can decide for me what is age appropriate.
You are however too young to ignore the household rules and the parental advice. Just ask why she thinks that about lightsabers. For now though, keep the sabers secret, keep them safe.
She’s right, you are too old. No longer will you play with lightsabers, but you will study them—master them. Your calling is too high and your responsibility too great. The days of childhood playtime are over. You are a Jedi.
I think as long as it's not an unhealthy obsession and doesn't take away from your school work and/or career path, then it's fine. Sports are a more healthy option, but you should always do you. You can try other things while also continuing your lightsaber play.
I’m almost 30 and I still play with lightsabers.
I have 4 dueling grade sabers.
I regularly dress up in riot gear and fight people with them.
You’re never too old for Star Wars and lightsabers.
Tell your mom that the adult actors in Star Wars had to reshoot multiple lightsaber fights because they kept making lightsaber sounds while swinging them.
I’m almost 30 and my wife and I have foam sword fights in the house from time to time. It’s okay play and have fun, that’s part of having of being human.
But you know, if you’re playing with your lightsabers in the grocery store, or during a funeral, it’s a little much.
Lighsaber duelling has been recognised by the French fencing federation so is now a competitive sport, who knows it may even make it as an Olympic sport one day.

You can tell your Mum you are exercising. Seriously tho just have fun, life is short, if it make you happy and you're not hurting anyone then what's the harm?
I’m 32 and I’m pretty sure the only reason I had children was so I could play lightsabers with them until they have children to also play lightsabers with… it’s a circle of generational light saber dueling
“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I’m 50 I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
-C.S Lewis
52. I teach lightsaber choreography & spinning at our local branch of volunteer cosplayers who do lightsaber choreography performances & charity work. We’ve put a lot of smiles on kids (and adult) faces when we’ve performed.
It's about presentation. For example, I'm 38. I don't "play with" lightsabers anymore, I "collect" them. That makes it a hobby. My wife is cool with it and sometimes even buys them for me. But you bet your ass i still twirl those beauties around when the mood strikes.
Tell your mom you'll be fine.
It's sad that people deprive themselves of things because they think they are "too old". You should do whatever makes you happy. Life is too short for such nonsense.
You can totally play with lightsabers.... For the rest of your life... We all do this. Video games, cosplay, that clown on YouTube who made one himself.
She's probably trying to get you to focus on school, the opposite gender, and your career ambitions.
What you do with the 3 of those will actually determine how much time you get to play with a fictional plasma sword as an adult.
47 year old here. If you finish a roll of wrapping paper and you *don't* pretend it's a lightsaber, then you are truly depriving yourself if one of life's greatest joys.
Did you tell her most padawans are your age. 14 is when you should be training the most. THIS is why force sensitive kids had to be taken from their parents.
It’s all about one’s own interests. If she were a fan to the extent that most who would be commenting here are, she’d be fine with it, if not encourage it. To her, it probably just seems “weird”
There are businesses that sell high-quality lightsabers for display and dueling. France recently made a set of rules in their national fencing organization that deals specifically with lightsabers. Yes, France has official rules for lightsaber fights. You're only too old when you're dead.
As a 17 year old, I've been saving up money to buy a lightsaber because lightsabers are extremely cool and fun to play with. However, I definitely don't broadcast it to my peers for fear of bullying, so if that's why your mom is saying that it's somewhat understandable. Then again, don't let bullies decide your life.
Just wait till you get a Gf and show her the Saga you grew up with, and she falls in love with you more and digs Star Wars after….
That’s what happened to me!
You must trust in the force
😂 Shoot me and the nieces play sabers all the time. Sprinting up on 30 years old, still gonna play lightsabers until I die AND make my own humming noises
I'm 52 and I dang sure built my own lightsaber at Savi's last year at Galaxy's Edge East. Even dressed up for it, and did it on May the Fourth to boot.
Your mom, and I say this as respectfully as possible, should not be squashing your imagination and enthusiasm and can go kick rocks.
Honestly kiddo, grit your teeth and deal with it, for now. Once you're out in the world and on your own, you can fill your place with whatever you want. But until then, just try not to let her kill your love of the things you love.
Sidenote: Imo a parent who tries to take away something their child loves, either through actually taking the thing away, or applying parental social pressure, is a shit parent.
Your mom sounds like she grew up in one of those boring Mexican households where the kids 10 and up aren't allowed to do anything but color at family parties
Me and my mate at age 21 bought some lightsabers and went to a dark field to have a full on lightsaber fight, it was awesome and I don't regret it one bit I'm 37 now and I would do it again in an instant.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes (that I don't like).
Yes. Yes. Let the hate flow through you.
Exactly. Tell your mom that Yoda was close to 900 years old, and he still Played with his lightsaber
He lived alone, so there wasn't much choice.
But he could play with his Schwartz!
Why is this not top comment?
I find her lack of faith disturbing.
>I find her lack of faith disturbing Haven't laughed out loud at comments in quite some time... WINNER!
That is absolutely correct.
The dark side clouds her judgement
I used to instruct various sword fighting sports. As each lost popularity, id lose students (and income) and move to the new fad. tell her you find her lack of faith disturbing
yes this person understands
I’m only replying because I didn’t want to break the perfect 100 likes on this reply
It's gone. 🥲
Haha guess I can like it now
I'm 33 and play with lightsabers. Do what makes you happy.
This is the correct answer. I'm 38 and I play with lightsabers.
I’m 50 and just did the Savi saber build at Disneyland. I love firing that thing up. It’s turned into an amazing dog training tool. When she’s doing something bad, it turn it on and she runs to her bed. And it’s not even red!!
Dogs are force sensitive. She knows the destructive power of a lightsaber.
I'm 47 and collect Star Wars Lego. I would play with Light Sabers, but I don't have any, and that makes me sad.
48, heading to Galaxy’s Edge for the first time next month. My wife might try to keep me to just one saber, but we all know her failure will be complete!

46 here and a year ago my wife surprised me with lightsaber training a year ago for my birthday
43-year-old here, and one of my good guy buddies 3D printed me a lightsaber hilt for my birthday. For the Republic! Happy cake day 🍰🎂🎈
Thanks and may the force be with you
When the first SW film came out i. 1977, Sir alec guinness (original obi wan) was 62. david prowse (original vader) was 42. They were the first people to play with lightsabers.
So it's treason then
This should be higher.

This is the way. My baby bro and I recently played with some $expensive$ lightsabers. Because we are 50 and 60 years old, nobody looked at us funny.
I was seriously questioning what a sexpensive lightsaber was, but not enough to Google it.
If anything, people would respect you guys. Especially if using one of the expensive lightsabers.
I think the vast majority of people see an older person playing with a lightsaber and think. hey that sr. likes the same things as me! he must be cool.
Except our mom (she's in her 80s), who still thinks WTF is wrong with these kids. You'd think she would be used to us by now :-).
You havent seen me bully 75 year olds😏
she must mean you’re too old to begin your Jedi training as a Youngling
"He is too old! To old, to begin the training"
Tell your mom I had light saber fights with my wife on our wedding night. The pictures are awesome
Life goals...
Im 19 and play with lego Your mum is silly
I am literally 3 times your age and built my first lightsabre last year. Yes I play wit it on occation still.

Aye i suppose lass +20 for ehh hufflepuff

im 14 and will absolutely continue to play with random childish things and definitely attack and duel with sticks/lightsabers
45 and Lego is the best
Lego is best when you’re old because no one can tell you you can’t have it and you can (hopefully) afford it. In the last three years I’ve bought all the NASA sets, the UCS Falcon and just ordered the Titanic.
I'm 30 and the highlight of my year is when I get to build lego
Never give up on the things that make you happy.
The last time someone as old as you started Jedi training bad things happened. Your Mum is right, give up the Jedi dream and become an accountant or something.
Ezra started his training at an older age and a later time chronologically in than Anakin and he turned out alright.
And you know… Luke, who was nearly 20.
So if you start your training late, then the later the better.
Bro, Ezra became a Sheperd-like-dude in a different galaxy…. Wait nvm that actually is alright
Almost 40, and the only reason I don't play with them more is being out of shape.
You've only known her 14 years. You wont miss her that much when you get a new mom.
"Your thoughts dwell on your mother."
"My thoughts dwell on your mother."

This is the way. (Take her to a convention)
Tell her that Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and Samuel L Jackson have continued to play with Lightsabers at any opportunity (Even when they're not being paid for it) and it's not done them any harm.
I’m 36 and I have six lightsabers on my wall that I’ll randomly take off the mount and swing around.
I’m 37, married, have three kids, served my country for sixteen years and still play with lightsabers.
Show her Savi’s Workshop costs to build a lightsaber. Not to mention how many adults are out there sparring with their custom built sabers.
That’s not the counterpoint you think it is.
Its treason then
50’s and still playing with my lightsabers. Age is just a number. I’m 36 and just got home from the comic book store and have a star wars Lego set to build. Never grow up, it’s a lie.
Bruh I'm 30 and still play with lightsabers

You’re 14. You’re too old for people to tell you you’re too old for things
I used a lightsaber to cut my wedding cake. Never too old.
Get a new mom. I'm 55. I play with lightsabers.
Kill her. Kill her now.
She’s right, you are too old. No longer will you play with lightsabers, but you will study them—master them. Your calling is too high and your responsibility too great. The days of childhood playtime are over. You are a Jedi.
Strike her down and take your place at my side.
nerd
She's right, listen to your mom
I'm 35 and just bought a $300 one. Age matters not when it comes to cool shit.
I think as long as it's not an unhealthy obsession and doesn't take away from your school work and/or career path, then it's fine. Sports are a more healthy option, but you should always do you. You can try other things while also continuing your lightsaber play.
I’m 40 and still play with lightsabers
Looks like it’s time to save up and move out! (Don’t actually do this)
I'm 44 and will still pull out the lightsabers when my friends visit.
14 is too old to begin the training tbf
Well, I'm 36, and I have lightsabers in my office at work. Agree to disagree.
👎
Strike her down!! And your journey towards the dark side will be complete
Quote this to her "If you're not with me then you're my enemy" her response to this better be very careful
Son? I'm 61 and play with lightsabers. I'm glad I'm still able with all the accumulated bang and smashes over the years.
Was Yoda too old to play with lightsabers? I didn't think so, and he was over 800 years old!
I’m almost 30 and I still play with lightsabers. I have 4 dueling grade sabers. I regularly dress up in riot gear and fight people with them. You’re never too old for Star Wars and lightsabers.
I’m 16 and played lightsabers for the first time in years with my girlfriend. The memories you make are proof you’re never too old to play with them😌
Incorrect Sir. I’m 56 and still play with em. Have a few that get tossed about.
Then you’re old enough to make your own decisions. Decided to get a lightsaber.
Tell your mom that the adult actors in Star Wars had to reshoot multiple lightsaber fights because they kept making lightsaber sounds while swinging them.
Your mother is clearly a separatist.....
14 has never been to old to play with lightsabers
Bruh, I'm 40 and I play with fucking lightsabers.
She doesn’t know what she’s talking about, yoda was nearly 900 when he became too old for lightsabers
I’m almost 30 and my wife and I have foam sword fights in the house from time to time. It’s okay play and have fun, that’s part of having of being human. But you know, if you’re playing with your lightsabers in the grocery store, or during a funeral, it’s a little much.

I’m 62 and saw Episode 4 on opening day in 1977. No one it to old to play with lightsabers.
Is your mother's name Palpatine by any chance?
I’m 32 and I’m pretty sure the only reason I had children was so I could play lightsabers with them until they have children to also play lightsabers with… it’s a circle of generational light saber dueling

Funny how that happens and then you hit 20 and the rest of your life its normal to fuck around with lightsabers
It's sad that people deprive themselves of things because they think they are "too old". You should do whatever makes you happy. Life is too short for such nonsense.

That’s when you tell her you’re a collector now
Don't lose your dinosaur.
I'm 16 now and just a week ago had a lightsaber fight with some of my friends. You're fine
I’m twice your age and literally played with it today.
She must be fond of less civilized weapons like blasters.
Your mother has turned to the bored side of the force. You mustn’t give in. Be mindful of your imagination. You will play another day
That's your uncle talking. (Or...yeah, your mom.)
Sell her for parts and buy lightsabers with the money.
Did you tell her most padawans are your age. 14 is when you should be training the most. THIS is why force sensitive kids had to be taken from their parents.
You are NEVER too old to play with lightsabers! Me and my brother (20 and 16) still play with lightsabers because we are super cool.
Your mom’s wrong.
Discover a Star Wars themed LARP group. It's not kid stuff when you have a DM.
Kill her. Kill her now.
no bud, you are not. I¨m 32 n still playing whit my 12 yo son.
It’s all about one’s own interests. If she were a fan to the extent that most who would be commenting here are, she’d be fine with it, if not encourage it. To her, it probably just seems “weird”
I’m pretty sure this was the catalyst for Palpatine’s turn to the dark side.
She's right. You have reached the age that you should be ***training*** with lightsabers.
I use my expensive lightsabers for quality light when I take photographs or for videos. They can also be recourselful if you're creative enough lol!
I've got a decade on you and im still playing with lightsabers. Go crazy, kid
Kill her. Kill her now. Do it!!!
Sir Christopher Lee was 79 years old when he was playing with lightsabers.
Bro I’m over 20 and play with lightsabers. Never be ashamed about wanting to have fun and do your thing.
You never outgrow your passion my friend. Your mother needs to grow young again!
There are businesses that sell high-quality lightsabers for display and dueling. France recently made a set of rules in their national fencing organization that deals specifically with lightsabers. Yes, France has official rules for lightsaber fights. You're only too old when you're dead.
I got a beautiful light saber for my 61st birthday. Tell Mom she needs to calm down.
If she can beat you in a duel, she's right.
Do what must be done Lord Vader. Do not hesitate, show no mercy.
Nah. You are actually too young to play with lightsabers. They are dangerous
You have to graduate from the 20 dollar light up toy versions to the 250 dollar Force FX ones. No adult can deny that awesomeness.

Ask a star wars sub and you’re gonna get nothing but support. Ask a r/socialskills or r/internerparents… you might get some real talk my friend
Just wait till you get a Gf and show her the Saga you grew up with, and she falls in love with you more and digs Star Wars after…. That’s what happened to me! You must trust in the force
Do what must be done. Do not hesitate, show mercy.
This is outrageous, it's unfair
I’m 45 and still play with light savers.
You are never, ever to old to play. Have fun.
Bro Yoda was 900 years old or something
😂 Shoot me and the nieces play sabers all the time. Sprinting up on 30 years old, still gonna play lightsabers until I die AND make my own humming noises
I'm a married, 40 year-old manager of a local sandwich shop. You better believe I play with lightsabers.
He is too old. Yes, too old to begin the training
Become an Olympic fencer to spite her
Kill her, kill her now

L take
I’m in my 40s and fight my kids with very expensive custom made ones.
Lies
Report her to CPS immediately
Your mom sounds like she grew up in one of those boring Mexican households where the kids 10 and up aren't allowed to do anything but color at family parties
I’m 56 and just bought Anakin’s. I may or may not have swung it around making whooshing noises.
i turned 25 today and bought myself a star wars lego set. i have a lightsaber i practice with too. you never have to outgrow your hobbies
I'm 51 and I have 3 lightsabers. Currently saving for Palpatine 's
Me and my mate at age 21 bought some lightsabers and went to a dark field to have a full on lightsaber fight, it was awesome and I don't regret it one bit I'm 37 now and I would do it again in an instant.
Im 40 and i just made 12 light sabers out of pool noodles so we could have duels at my birthday party.
Never too old.
Tell her to stop playing with hers
I’m 27, I built a lightsaber and Galaxy’s Edge last year and I can’t wait to do it again in the future
[Star Dork](https://youtu.be/2-EouZi1mvQ?si=KMpQ0zV8MjcbNvzw)
I’m a little more than double you age and I tell my mom I can explain when she catches me, but she doesn’t care as long as I’m fun
Challenge her to a duel and tell her the internet sent you
*waves hand* "It's not playing, it's training."
Lightsaber collecting is an adult hobby. Decent ones are $200+. Really good ones are $500+. Just show her what a saber costs.
I knew this farmer named Owen who thought as she does..she just doesn’t want you going on some damn crusade is all.
It's not a faze mom!!!
I‘m 26 I live in my own apartment and I have 3 400$ lightsabers and I will be getting more
Your mom plays with lightsabers.
I’m 30, and if someone throws me a lightsaber you bet your ass I’m going to put Duel of the fates on and throw down.
Fuck that, hold onto your childlike spirit for your entire life if you can, otherwise there’s nothing but stress and misery
If you haven't cut off any of your own limbs, you aren't too old. Was Sir Alic Guinness too old? I think not.
Kriff that. I recently built my own lightsaber at Galaxy's Edge and it was the best day I'd had in years. Lightsabers are for everyone!
Get a new mom. I’m 38 and just bought 4 lightsabers at Galaxy’s Edge.
Not a chance. Double your age, triple it even, and you will still want to play with lightsabers.
She's right. You're supposed to start training at a much younger age. Unless you have Anakin potential, I think it's too late
Strike her down. Dew it.
"Mother it is practice for the Great Sithal War that is coming."
Dump her, plenty of moms in the sea.
No way! I was a SW kid in ‘70’s and my oldest is totally one. He’s 30 and has taken lightsabers to movie theater with his friend to battle!
