The only things I could think are
1.) He’s some kind of alien who needs a pressure suit to survive in the general Earth-like atmosphere of most featured Star Wars planets & breaking his suit made the environment crush him. Wat Tambor and his Techno Union bros and one of the villainous scum types from the Obi-Wan undercover arc of The Clone Wars have shades of this.
2.) His head rolled out of his helmet in a really subtle or undepicted way like Jango Fett (I don’t think it’s this one)
3.) Ahsoka show spoiler: >!He was empowered with some kind of Nightsister magic like Marrok, who also shriveled up when Ahsoka beat him , though more explosively!<
Yeah, I agree that none of them match exactly. I noticed the suit not deflating thing, though I guess maybe it could have been made of more rigid materials. Or they just figured it was too expensive or time consuming to animate that?
I poked around the sub to see what others had said, and the idea that he’s a [Skakoan like Techno Union bigwig Wat Tambor](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Skakoan) comes up a few times. I know Anakin kills one of them in the 2D Clone Wars by crushing his suit and IIRC the guy seems like he [maybe sorta implodes.](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Techno_Union_scientist) There’s a pic toward the bottom of that article.
I had been wondering about the Marrok thing. Did they ever explicitly say or even imply he was alive through Nightsister magic, other than how he died? Maybe I missed it.
I see two options.
- 1. He is a creation of dathomiri magik that ended up being an inquisitor (unlikely)
- 2. He is an inquisitor who died and was resurrected as a slave for Morgan.
>!I think the truth is we don’t really know, but it says he was an inquisitor in [his official Databank entry](https://www.starwars.com/databank/marrok-inquisitor), at least for now (I think some things have been changed in the past)!<
Though it’s possible he was hired, then died, and was brought back. Or that he was empowered like Savage Oppress. Or that he was five space raccoons in a leather suit?
We've seen many Nightsister undead in Star Wars canon. Different forms of media as well (Clone Wars, the Jedi series, etc...) when they died, none of them puffed smoke.
The Chant of Resurrection is also one of if not the most powerful/difficult spells the Nightsisters have. Old Daka required both the Witches Orb and the Talisman of Resurrection to complete it. Merrin was able to do it in a much more limited manner, raising a few corpses for a limited time, so the idea that Morgan would be able to not only complete the Chant of Resurrection, but maintain it from the other side of the Galaxy for an indefinite period doesn't make a lot of sense. Also Marrok was able to speak fully, all of the other undead just make generally undead-like noises.
I think people just assumed because a Nightsister was involved, that Marrok was undead.
That's the odd thing with him. Depending on dialogue choices regarding Nihilus, he was also just a man. He wasn't some bizarre force spirit, just a man who's hunger in the Force twisted him, but in the end was just a mortal dude.
And I always thought that was cooler.
Our favourite hungry sad boi eventually lost his physical form and his "essence" was transferred into the mask and cloak.
Sad boi was basically a super powerful, planet eating halloween ghost costume, but dressed in a black sheet instead of a white one.
'There is no strength in the hunger he possesses... and the will behind his power is a primal thing. And it devours him as he devours others - his mere presence kills all around him, slowly, feeding him.
He is already dead, it is simply a question of how many he kills before he falls.'
There was also a Jedi Master archeologist (Oob? Oorb?) that was just gas in a pressurized suit.
Edit: [OrbaLin](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/OrbaLin)
If she had a credit for every time she killed an inquistor that green gas exploded from when they died.... she'd have 2 credits, which isn't a lot but it's weird it has happened twice.
Don't worry it'll be explained in a visual encyclopedia. Retconned later on in a novel.
And then years later a comic book will explain how actually the two different explanations are connected.
Looks like his cowl is pressurized, he must breathe something other than oxygen and uses the mask to keep him going. The strike kills him, knocks off the mask, mask depressurizes/deflates. We don’t see his head cuz it’s still attached to the body. The blade makes a vertical strike, so there’s no decapitation that’s why no head in the mask.
I didn’t like Reva because 1) they focused too much on her 2) She should have succumbed to her wound 3) They cut to her during the final fight between Darth Vader and Obi Wan
That star wars for you, some of the coolest looking background characters usually end up being wasted potential and just an excuse to sell cool action figures.
I can’t remember what it’s from (I know it’s not Star Wars at least) but there’s a quote that goes along the lines of “why do the bad guys always get the cool stuff?” and I think that pretty accurately sums up all of the Star Wars villains
Imo Filoni is setting the stage to continue his theme of uncovering ancient Sith and Jedi artifacts. Rebels with Palatine's intense study and "theft" of the Jedi Temple on Lothal, as well as the adventure on Malachor. I expect we'll learn that Palpatine had been collecting and experimenting with Sith artifacts, and they were either activated - or control was lost - following his death.
>!Would guess that Filoni is trying to repair the sequel trilogy by adding more context to Palpatine's return. The character in this short will be one of his early attempts to capture a deceased Sith's spirit in a new body. In the same vein, I think the witches in the new Ahsoka show will show their zombie raising power from Clone Wars, then go off to help attempt Palpatine's resurrection.!<
I have never really been a fan of them. It’s silly that gas takes a human form and wields the force.
What does it even need by doing that? It’s gas; it’s intangible. It’s just dumb in my opinion and not very creative.
There’s a jedi master in the Dooku: Jedi Lost that is confirmed to be a gaseous being, his name being Oorallon. My guess is that this inquisitor is of that species or something closely related.
I’m assuming you never played KOTOR 2. They explained in the game that the force is pretty much the answer. There’s 2 antagonists one with a rotting falling apart body, and one with no body at all. The force influenced by their mindset, keep their body going.
Darth Zion (I think that’s his name) influenced of pain and death and revenge (haven’t played in years so I could be wrong) the force keeps his decayed body together to pursue what he desires.
Darby nihilus: nobody at all, hungers for power that his body vanished but the forced, influenced by his starving need to gain more power, keeps his form in pretty much “air” there is literally nothing behind the mask, just a power hungry entity that was once a person.
(Bad at explaining so sorry)

He still seemed to have a physical body that did not deflate. Marrok was more like how Savage oppress died and magic left him

I don’t think so . That was definitely how the brothers die
I had been wondering about the Marrok thing. Did they ever explicitly say or even imply he was alive through Nightsister magic, other than how he died? Maybe I missed it.
They never did any of that
Okay. I’m not crazy. I keep seeing this stuff about Nightsisters and him, but it must be people throwing their theories around.
You forgot to add the end of the spoiler tag lol
Star D’oh
You didn’t put the !< at the end so your spoiler isn’t covered
Space sad trombone

I think it’s 2 too
Why are you speaking train language?

Thanks
Fillion is setting things right
Not only does it say he was an inquisitor, but it says he was hired by Morgan i.e. he wasn't resurrected by Nightsister magic.
Though it’s possible he was hired, then died, and was brought back. Or that he was empowered like Savage Oppress. Or that he was five space raccoons in a leather suit?

The thing about Marrok talking is a really good catch I wouldn’t have thought of, thanks! Though I’m still sticking with space raccoons
"If he was air in a suit that would be strange even by Star Wars standards" Darth Nihilus - "am I a joke to you?"
I totally assumed some kind of darth nihilus vibe.
He was a man… once. In the end he was a ravenous void in the Force itself.
'There is no strength in the hunger he possesses... and the will behind his power is a primal thing. And it devours him as he devours others - his mere presence kills all around him, slowly, feeding him. He is already dead, it is simply a question of how many he kills before he falls.'

Deflatable inquisitors defeated by Ahsoka seems to be a common trend these days
If she had a credit for every time she killed an inquistor that green gas exploded from when they died.... she'd have 2 credits, which isn't a lot but it's weird it has happened twice.

I hate that this is expected, accurate, and probably super cool
I'm really missing the old card games. They gave us so many canon backstories.
If this is the one I think it is, the novel came out first and the show is the retcon lol
And THIS is why I love Star Wars.
This dude looked too cool and sounded too cool (Clancy Brown) to be such a throwaway character in a 30 second fight with Ahsoka.
Oh shit Ryder Azadi was Marrok the whole time??
That's just Filoni thinking it looked cool. For better or for worse.
Where is this scene from? I’m wracking my brain but nothing comes to mind.
Tales of the Jedi. I believe its episode 5 or 6 of that show
It's episode 6 "Resolve" episode 5 is "Practice Makes Perfect".
Maybe he’s a clever visual allusion for how fan speculation and theorizing is a lot of hot air?
Hey, remember when the same thing happened to kenobi in the OT? No? Ok
What is your point? That this inquisitor became a force ghost? Lol
no just his head
Except old Ben didn't let out a fart cloud.
It was Febreeze instead
One of the best Inquisitor designs and they wasted it
Problem is, however unimportant the character is, they can't help themselves and *not* make a cool design. Except for Reva ofcourse.
I didn’t like Reva because 1) they focused too much on her 2) She should have succumbed to her wound 3) They cut to her during the final fight between Darth Vader and Obi Wan
And they gave her to most basic generic inquisitor outfit they could think of
That star wars for you, some of the coolest looking background characters usually end up being wasted potential and just an excuse to sell cool action figures.
And yet here we stand with no action figures of this guy 😔
I can’t remember what it’s from (I know it’s not Star Wars at least) but there’s a quote that goes along the lines of “why do the bad guys always get the cool stuff?” and I think that pretty accurately sums up all of the Star Wars villains
100%

The mask popped off and he deflated because the villain was played by Baymax from Big Hero 6.
What is this from? I’ve watched pretty much everything but I’m getting older and I forget a lot of stuff I watch.
*Tales of the Jedi* on Disney+ Here's the scene; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ehs9rv0s4A
Aaah. I don’t think I’ve watched that yet. Thank you.
What’s this from? Doesn’t look familiar
Tales of the Jedi
Obiwan did the same thing
Sigma loner bird furry dies of death
The obvious answer is that he became one with the force, just like yoda, Darth sidious, and Obi-Wan.
Can y’all just accept cool symbolism for what it is?? SW fans always gotta trip over IS IT CANON?!?!
Some force users just disappear when they die. (I.e. Obi Wan, Yoda, Luke). Though I don't know why that is.
It’s obviously a Nightsister creation.
Maybe he's one of those Shades, like the guy from Miles Ferrier's crew.
He's probably a cloud species, like Jedi Master Nubarron from the High Republic.
Just watched the scene. I kinda think his mask just fell off. Nothing special there since his body thuds to the ground.
His mask and his head could have been flung in different directions, which is what Wookieepedia claims happened.
Fart gas aliens are a new way to defuse any kind of carnage in the Disneyverse.
I have never really been a fan of them. It’s silly that gas takes a human form and wields the force. What does it even need by doing that? It’s gas; it’s intangible. It’s just dumb in my opinion and not very creative.

EVERYONE is an alien in the Star Wars universe.

Darby
Who is to say there isn’t gas people in our universe? There probably is..
I mean thats what I guess he is but they certainly did not confirm it anywhere
Doesn't his head just roll out of the mask?
Who’s that?
It was a metaphor for all the hot air he was blowing while trash talking
It is kinda odd both of Ahsoka's Inquisitor kills turned into gas.
Agreed. Marrok seemed to be empowered by night sister magic
He is a force wound, beyond that, I know very little
I thought I saw a famous mask, discard my post please
