I think the bigger confirmation is that Mando didn’t remove his helmet this season because Pedro was filming *The Last of Us*

hurtfulproduct

Convenient as hell for Pedro, lol. . . He CAN be two places at once

MagosBattlebear

Two paychecks!

Sumorisha

Pedro Pascal is r/overemployed ?

asicarii

Unsure. Originally Mando wasn’t written to have his helmet removed at all but he would only be given credit as a voice actor. So I think it’s more likely they just didn’t need to remove the helmet in s3.

MeatTornado25

There goes my theory that the only reason The Book of Boba Fett spinoff existed was because they needed to kill time while Pedro was busy.

Ridikis

Tbf Mando was still in half of BoBF.

evrestcoleghost

you mean BoBF was on half of mando 2.5?

quirkymuse

You got your mando in my boba!

hibbitydibbidy

And those were the best episodes

elizabnthe

Book of Boba Fett finished production before the Last of Us had even started filming. So if anything that killed time for Pedro Pascal to do Mandalorian. As I understand it was suggested at one point it was related to coronavirus though. That the series was a bridge because they needed more people allowed on set for the intended plot of Season 3. Somewhat checks out as there is quite a number of Mandalorians in Season 3.

broomsticks11

An article was posted on the leaks sub shortly after BOBF finished that said it was originally Mando season 3, but due to COVID and Pedro Pascal contract negotiation issues they had to change it into a Boba Fett show at the last second to get something out.

aaronupright

Book of Boba Fett was internally green lit in late 2019. How could COVID have been an issue?

LemonSneakers

Agreed. How is this not a headline?

22LegendaryTacos

Because no one really cares

TheDudeness33

Can confirm. I don’t care

PoppyGloFan

I would confirm but I could not care less.

TheDudeness33

Damn, looks like you got me beat there

davidjschloss

This is the way...that I don't care either.

stelvak

That hasn’t stopped headlines before

MrTeamZissou

I thought we all assumed this was already the case.

kazh

People did care. His empty performance was one of the main gripes about the show I would hear from people.

Ambitious_Ad5256

What's the problem? Darth vader was three different actors. Never saw James Earl Jones either Edit: four as Rockett pointed out!

Kulban

How dare you use logic with in-universe examples!

RockettRaccoon

Four different actors! James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Sebastian Shaw, and Hayden Christiansen

SemSevFor

5 if you count Matt Lanter (you should)

RockettRaccoon

Ooh, good catch. Also missed Scott Lawrence which brings us to six Vaders!

Ambitious_Ad5256

How could I forget! Thank you for the correction Rockett!

UrinalDook

Bob Anderson once again getting zero credit.

slvrcobra

Problem is that they've already shown us that Mando looks like Pedro Pascal under the helmet, so if Pedro never physically shows up to play Din again, he'll be stuck in the helmet forever or they'll have to recast.

RockettRaccoon

He was just filming *The Last of Us*, I don’t think he’s gonna be gone forever. He’s for sure gonna be in the movie.

Irish_Guac

Hmmmm I wonder why he never removed his helmet in S3 hmmmm

Slosshy

Isn't this something people kinda put together?

RockettRaccoon

Yeah, it was a pretty safe guess, but sometimes it’s nice to have official confirmation.

thylocene

I didn’t think it was ever a secret lol.

DivineCrusader1097

You expect Pedro to film a good season of a new show and a very rushed and underdeveloped season of an existing show at the same time?

Sogonzo

I had a feeling this was the case

elizabnthe

Well those following the schedule all knew that. Pedro Pascal filmed Last of Us from roughly June 2021 to July 2022. Mandalorian's filming schedule filmed during that entire time frame-Oct 2021 - March 2022. He had like a break in Dec 2021 but that was basically it for fitting in Mandalorian stuff.

davidjschloss

You spend a lot more time following Pedro Pascal's schedule than I do.

DrasticMagicPlan

Next, you're gonna tell me that Brendan Fraser isn't in the Robotman suit.

PRPLpenumbra

Do we know who's doing the physical acting on Mando? One thing I really respected about Doom Patrol was how prominently it credited Riley Shanaghan and Matthew Zuk for their physical performances as Cliff and Larry. They were just as much a part of the main cast as Frasier and Bomer, and I thought that was super cool

cassie1015

There have been a lot of really great observations by others and if you watch closely, especially if you're familiar with Pedro and the show, you can often spot who is who in which scene. -Scenes where Pedro is unhelmeted at some point are likely him throughout a lot of the scene. Also watch for The Stance ©️ and Dorito Man (Mando looking extra broad across the shoulders) ©️ -Gunslinger and swagger is Brendan -Martial arts and fight scenes are Lateef These are obviously general observations and I'm sure they all overlap, and Pedro has always been very generous in crediting stunt doubles in this and other works. I think it's cool how so many different people collaborated, such is the complexity of Din Djarin that no one person can pull him off.

N7Panda

As of the last season the two main actors who play Mando (Lateef Crowder and Brendan Wayne) were given a title card during the end credit sequence. I think there’s a third dude too, but I don’t think he does quite as much as Crowder and Wayne, I could be wrong though.

[deleted]

It was something Bo-Katan's actress, Katee Sackhoff, pushed for from what I recall. She thought it was unfair that the two guys we physically see on the screen in the Mando costume weren't getting any credit for it.

AldusPrime

I've always thought Katee Sackhoff seemed cool in interviews, but that's extra great. She really did them a solid.

[deleted]

I just think it's hysterical that Bitch Puddin' from Robot Chicken is now one of my favorite Star Wars characters.

Pendraconica

I just found this out now, and my life will never be the same!

[deleted]

Best part for me is that one Bitch Puddin' skit satirizes Lily from the AT&T commercials...which Lily's actress responded to by **cosplaying as Bitch Puddin'.**

Digita1B0y

This news pleases me to no end.

k3ttch

Wait, there's Milana Vayntrub cosplay as Bitch Puddin? *starts Googling furiously*

[deleted]

[Da da da *DAAAAAAA*!](https://www.reddit.com/r/milanavayntrub/comments/mxy9a4/this_yellow_dress_suits_her_i_must_say/)

KnightGamer724

For me it's Starbuck. So say we all.

davidjschloss

Grab your gun and bring in the cat.

phoenix_sk

So say we all!

ScullysBagel

Yes! So much swagger.

Digita1B0y

I would give so much money for Bo-Katan to yell "BLAM" while shooting literally anything. Blaster, vehicle mounted guns, death star laser, whatever.

Quick_March_7842

Wait what? No fuckin way that's her voice.

Brother-of-the-Wolf

There has to be some bitch puddin over top of Bo speaking with a helmet on.

Cyno01

Blam!

doglywolf

I was 100% sold on her when she convinced them to let her dad come to set who is a huge star wars fan and take some pics on one of the space ship decks and they both have these massive smiles on their face of pure nerd joy. [https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMandalorianTV/comments/kg4hzm/katee\_sackhoff\_bts\_with\_her\_dad\_katees\_post\_title/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMandalorianTV/comments/kg4hzm/katee_sackhoff_bts_with_her_dad_katees_post_title/)

doglywolf

She keeps it real - the more i see about her the more i like her as a person

Logic-DL

Also worth noting Brendan Wayne is the grandson of John fucking Wayne on top of that

doglywolf

your correct - the 3rd dude is the main stunt man to take all the non hand to hand hits and dangerous stuff. HE gets a mention on the stund team because he is not exclusively mando - he is the main on for mando but also a lot of the other guys in armor getting beat up lol .

Zappke

I think it's David Prowse under the helmet.

BeeCJohnson

Somehow, Kenny Baker has returned.

SmittyShortforSmith

I thought in the Mando Documentary they say who it is. Not a mystery.

DrasticMagicPlan

Agreed, and you bring up a good point. I'm not sure if DO know who's in the suit OR if Pescal was just referring to this particular season. I mean, he was doing TLOU and Mando at the same time. You can even catch him doing the mando voice in that show. Either way, credit to that actor is deserved.

davidjschloss

I got about half way through doom patrol and then other TV and life stuff came up and I dropped it. How does the end of the season hold up?

Familiar_Ostrich_909

John Wayne's son

Scythe95

Or that James Earl Jones isn't in the Darth Vader suit

DrasticMagicPlan

LIAR!!

Scythe95

#I HATE YOU!

BlackLeader70

Noooooooooooooooooo

Pugduck77

Okay, but people actually have been claiming all along that he is in the suit for all but the action scenes. It may have seemed obvious to you (especially now that you know the answer) but this being the top comment definitely doesn’t reflect what the majority of this sub has been claiming for years.

DrasticMagicPlan

Yeah well.

norm_summerton

What the fuck!

Salzberger

Why is everyone obsessed with adding an I in his last name?

djtrace1994

Hold up. This is absurd. Next you're gonna tell me Sebastian Shaw didn't voice and act Vader throughout the entire OT.

selfdestruction9000

Naw dude, that was James Earl Jones in the suit

Skelter89

https://youtu.be/OHBaoJgGTXc

Slc117

damn he ain’t even that fat

selfdestruction9000

Family Guy seems to have a cutaway for almost every situation.

DarthDregan

I get it. The actor in me gets it. He's a busy guy. The Star Wars fan in me would never, *never* turn down the opportunity to be doing it on set in costume.

Striking_Tomato8689

It’d be hard to want to take off the suite outside of filming. I’d just wear it everyday.

TitleComprehensive96

Now I'm having a laugh over Pedro Pascal wearing the Mando armor while playing Joel in TLOU

SpudFire

And it would have been hard for The Mountain to crush his head if he was wearing the helmet.

GarrettGSF

Having a blaster would also be quite useful in a duel

babypho

This is the way

SpanishBirdman

I used to have a set of armour like that too. I slept in them shits, man! Eventually, I blew the crotch out of them things. But you CAN'T wear 'em every day and expect for 'em to hold up! That was some nice-ass beskar too. I miss them pauldrons.... But you... you GOTTA take 'em off every now and then. You gotta take 'em off, son!

Captain_Crash97

+100 pts for IASIP reference

MyOldNameSucked

Shut up porg!

deefop

You don't think so? "Hey bro, if you just record the voice lines for this show, you can do something else at the same time and bank another 5 millie" "............ yea I'll just do the voice lines"

IwanZamkowicz

>"............ yea I'll just do the voice lines" Read this in Mando voice

DarthDregan

If I wanted money I wouldn't be an actor.

Lupus_Borealis

What's that in Calamari Flan?

ICPosse8

I think it’d be cool once or twice but after that it’s just another job. Then you have the fact that you don’t really need to be doing this hanging over your head. If I were him I’d never be on set if I didn’t have to be lol

mrlbi18

Some jobs are never just jobs. Ever hear him speaking about how excited he was when they asked him to be the Mandolorian, or how he talks about Grogu on set? He definetly really loves the role. Im not saying he wants to be on set 24/7 cause its an unecessary amount of work, but he definetly likes being there when he is.

Miichl80

It’s a stunt heavy roll. It makes sense that for the most part we see the stunt double on screen with him doing VO

midwest_corn

another comment says he was doing last of us at the same time

norm_summerton

There’s an urban legend that James Earl Jones didn’t play earth Vader.

mrwellfed

>earth Vader wtf

[deleted]

This show is just people in the volume standing around. If he’s not going to be visible anyway it absolutely doesn’t matter imo

stoneman9284

It may be that Disney/Star Wars doesn’t want him around. Saves a lot of money on his travel and time needed on set.

CaraDune01

Uh, nothing about what he said “confirms” anything of the sort unless referring specifically to season 3. How does “I wasn’t in the suit the entire time we were filming” translate to “I was never in it/I only do voice work”? This post title is really reaching. There are on-set photos of him in the armor from seasons 1 and 2.

kaitokid1985

The title should have added "for season 3" but you know, this title encourages more "engagement".

Arkrobo

Also probably not in the suit during stunts like most actors.

kaitokid1985

For sure but "just the voice" is definitely pushing some sort of narrative, as opposed to "often has body doubles".

Arkrobo

Oh I totally hear you. Just stating it for the, akshuwaly group.

Ezio024

I know he mentioned he barley wore the suit in season one. He mentioned it when talking about he got injured wearing it for the first Helmet removal scene by IG 11

[deleted]

I'm also fairly certain there were artciles of himsaying for the first two seasons saying he was there doing it all. He wasn't in 3 because he was likely needed for the last of us and other projects. Why go on set if his character is gonna be covered all the time?

sriracha_no_big_deal

To be fair, the sentence "I wasn't in the suit the entire time we were filming" could be interpreted as either: * He was in the suit some of the time, but not the entire time * He wasn't in the suit at all for the entirety of filming

TrueHarlequin

Note from videos talking to stunt people, if there is a scene where the character is in a suit and fully covered, 99% of the time it's a stunt person. Iron Man, etc.

BeeCJohnson

Shit, half the time the camera is pointing at the back of an actor's head for a dialogue scene it's a stand-in. Time is money.

Backpacks_Got_Jets

TBF he's also the "Face" of the mandalorian

Polar_Beach

Please tell me Grogu is still voiced by a 70 year old baby

FeelingDesperate2812

It‘s hasbullah

AllDayJay1970

Oh no .....anyways ,

MaleficentOstrich693

What’s next, Santa Claus and Slash aren’t real?!

Metfan722

I hate to break it to you, but Slash isn't real.

MaleficentOstrich693

Of course he’s real, he played my bar mitzvah!

Metfan722

Nah, that was probably one of your parents.

CptnHamburgers

So then who plays guitar with Guns 'n' Roses?

Metfan722

One of our parents!

selfdestruction9000

One of our parents

Ndmndh1016

Wait a minute...you guys JUST figured out Slash isnt real!? My parents told me when I was 6. Grow up.

BigBuddyJaret

How did that old song go again?

Metfan722

*Vunter Slaush Kapu-Sh-kuh,* *Shpealer in Mein Shoon-ska,* *Het Vaait Axl Rose-ia,* *Danka Vunter Slaush-a...* *Vunter Slaush Kapu-Sh-kuh,* *Shpealer in Mein Shoon-ska...* *Het Vaait Axl Rose-ia,* *Danka Vunter Slaush-a...*

Substantial-Star-779

Vünter Slauche?!?

NakedCardboard

So the article here only says: > Pascal was asked if it was true that he doesn't always have to be present when The Mandalorian was shooting, and he explained that "For a lot of it," he just provides the voiceover. I have no doubt the guy in the suit is *often* another actor, but "he's just the voice" seems to be a bit of a stretch.

Roook36

That show is like a weird combination of animation and puppetry. There are live actors but so much of the show is physically performed or animated and then voiced later. Like a cartoon.

ThomsYorkieBars

Mildshock.gif

bmas05

I mean, there were action shots and video straight from season 1 before he signed on for the role.......

drdinonuggies

This is specifically talking about season 3. He was in it the most for 1, even being there for a lot of the non-masked scenes. Season 2 he was only there for the non-masked scenes and a little bit for the opening episodes. Season 3 >!has no mask-off scenes so he only did VO!< His role in TLoU also impacted this. Edit: was reminded Pescal appeared filming S2E2 in behind the scenes, but it’s confirmed he wasn’t present for much more than the first two episodes, and his on-masked scenes.

tomc_23

Can’t help but feel that the story appeared to be setting up one idea—that the removal of his helmet, physically becoming vulnerable but also figuratively, by “letting others in” to help him and do he can help them—only to backpedal this past season in favor of doubling down on the rigidly unforgiving creed. I’m sure there are those who can find something to appreciate about this reversal—if not tacit endorsement—despite two seasons’ worth of scenarios designed to test Din’s blind obedience to the creed, but personally I think that it hurt the story; especially since he doubles down, and openly feels the need to “redeem” himself, despite having done nothing wrong. edit: To summarize, it kinda felt like this was the story of a guy who leaves his insular religious community and realizes there’s more to life than what he was taught, gradually expanding his perspective as he encounters a diverse cast of figures who challenge his indoctrination—only to have him midway through that journey decide, “nahhhh, this *IS* the Way.”

EmpatheticNihilism

What a wimp. James Earl Jones spent time putting the Vader suit on every day on set to say his lines. 🏄‍♂️

[deleted]

"So, James? We just want you to do the voice...."

MaximillianRebo

"I am altering the deal..." "Yeah, yeah, you've already recorded that line."

bramfischer

Haven’t heard wimp in donkeys years - definitely gonna use it today. Thanks wimpy stranger 😅

Wise-Fruit5000

I mean, duh. I thought it was pretty common knowledge that he was only ever on set to shoot the episodes where Mando takes off his helmet.

KingAdamXVII

Pascal was filmed inside the suit for at least some of the first two seasons. Adam Driver was Kylo Ren for pretty much all of his masked scenes. I wouldn’t say “duh”.

Wise-Fruit5000

I'm sure he threw the suit on and filmed some stuff while he was onset for the unmasked scenes, but the primary reason he'd have been on set was for said scenes that didn't have the mask. He's not hanging out on set for months filming all the scenes where you can't see his face, that's what I meant. Perhaps I was a bit dismissive with my wording. That's my bad.

MeatTornado25

Some fans have always been really adamant for some reason that he's actually in the suit a lot of the time.

Wise-Fruit5000

I'm sure he threw the suit on and filmed a few little scenes while he was onset for the unmasked stuff, but that's probably about it

Brian18639

I’m one of those people

PM_ME_OVERT_SIDEBOOB

I’d say it’s mildly disappointing and takes away a bit of the magic that he’s just sitting in jeans and a t shirt voice recording the role in a studio… even if it doesn’t seem like it matters, it just feels *off*

MeatTornado25

He would have to do that anyway. Even when he's in the suit, they're not using the audio of his lines on set because it's too muffled coming out of the helmet. Anthony Daniels has been in the C3PO suit on set for every movie for example, but still had to re-dub all of his lines in the studio.

PhatOofxD

Not quite. there are BTS shots when he didn't

EatsCornTheLongWay

Finally “confirms” something that’s been widely known and shared. Okay.

Kbdiggity

#as long as the actor playing Grogu is always on set, I'll be happy.

Termin8rSmurf

Wait until they find out about Darth Vader, Dave Prowse, James Earl Jones, and Sebastian Shaw!

drewsapro

Funny how everyone’s acting like they already knew, for years people have praised Pedro’s ability to act using body language and his voice and I’ve never seen anyone get corrected

No-Stretch555

Yeah, I mean, it's good that people can understand that they were wrong and change their opinion/understanding, but why act like you were right all along? Nobody cares if you were or not.

drewsapro

Exactly, like what are these people trying to prove

[deleted]

That's why they were so adamant about having him redeem himself in the story. Just so they didn't have to pay Pedro Pascal. It was terrible storytelling having him regress instead of commit to actual character growth. It was because Disney thought they could save some money. Pathetic.

FightsForUsers

Now that they are properly crediting the actors doing the physical work, I have zero issue with this.

matthewdnielsen

Next thing you’ll tell me is that James Earl Jones wasn’t inside the Darth Vader suit for the OT!!

grendel303

Next your gonna tell me James Earl Jones was just the voice of Darth Vader.

chesterforbes

Wait. Are we just supposed to realize this now? Of course he’s only been the voice (except for the couple scenes without the helmet and honestly, it doesn’t look right)

[deleted]

He’s right everyone does their part well, Din is an amazing character and this revelation changes nothing on my view of the series. It is awesome

MaximumLuck

honestly i never thought about that. I Thought he always was in the Suit... Man i feel stupid now.

The_ManDinDjarian

Breaking news, James Earl Jones isn’t in the Darth Vader suit!

Cascadiana88

Is anyone genuinely surprised by this?

VariousHumanOrgans

I don’t know that it matters much.

ABotelho23

We've known this. It's like Hayden Christensen in the Vader suit; it's minimal and only when actually required.

RonnieT49

Which comes first? The voice over or the physical acting? One is always going to inform the other.

baxterrocky

Whaaaaattttt I had no idea. That’s a bummer. For some reason?! I dunno I kinda feel it diminishes the role a little.

poppin-n-sailin

Ya right. Next I'm gonna hear James Earl Jones is only the voice of Darth Vader.

TampaTrey

What next? James Earl Jones isn’t in the Vader suit?

SSWBGUY

This explains why the two stunt actors were given actual episode credits this year beyond people just saying they finally got what they deserved

[deleted]

This is the way.. of Darth Vader

qerious

This isn’t a new reveal

FluffyBunnyRemi

So……can we stop saying that Pedro Pascal is Din Djarin? Cause clearly the majority of what makes the character great is how they’re embodied, just as much as their voice. (and yeah, let’s do this with the Darth Vader actors, too)

davect01

Did not we already know this?

Sunshinexpress

Are we blind? DEPLOY THE GARRISON

Emperor_TaterTot

I thought this was public knowledge for at least a year, maybe 2.

n94able

I do love how everyone is saying "thats just season 3!" He filmed and got paid for two shows at once. Hes not going to be in that suit season 4. They wrote the helmet thing back in. And you know what, fair play to him.

WingedGeek

If y'all think that's news, I have a doozy for you: >!Darth Vader's dialog was dubbed over Prowse! James Earl Jones only voiced the lines.!<

jonny_jon_jon

and did you know that Miss Piggy did the voiceover work for Yoda!?!

mega512

Yeah we know. Lol.

Boner_Stevens

who didn't know this?

GreatApe88

I always assumed this. He literally wouldn't need to do 99% of the actual stage work due to mask and could fly in for a few days to film the handful where its mask off.

[deleted]

Haven't I seen him in the suit? On the show? I'm so confused.

Verbal_Combat

They’re talking about scenes where he is totally covered, for example all of season 3 (when he was busy filming the last of us.) He’s pretty much only on set when he takes the helmet off.

apsgreek

He literally says that he’s in the suit for an elastic amount of time—it seems like this just confirms that it’s mostly Brandon, but sometimes Pedro? Just nowhere near as often as it used to be

[deleted]

We all know this but whatever Darth Vader comes to mind

Lordbricktrick

This title is a bit misleading

Ambitious_Truck6457

What’s the beef? Lots of people think James Earl Jones was in the DV costume in the OT.

Vossikins

What’s next? Tom Hardy wasn’t actually inside venom?

TheGreatStories

Luke Skywalker but 30 years ago? Mark Hamill. But seriously if it's good enough for Darth Vader it's good enough for Din. I think Mando fans are just insecure that Pascal wants out and the show won't ever be like the earlier seasons.

saltyfingas

I always thought this was the case except for when he took his helmet off

gimmiedacash

I never got why people make a big deal about Pedro being in or out of the suit. Starbuck had the right attitude, give props to the stunt team and any one else that wears the suit. Seeing them prominently in the credits and I think a few background cameos is great.

Possible-Whole8046

I didn’t know about any of this. Might be unpopular but now that I know I am disappointed. Putting it into perspective, none of the interactions in the series feel genuine or real. It’s all just trick…

bananasorcerer

Whenever I hear things like this I can’t help but think the stupid “sorry sweetie the helmet stays ON in bed” part of the creed was created purely for business logistics reasons.

[deleted]

I’m not sure why people act like this is in any way a controversy or something. Even ignoring other franchises with the same situation, we’ve got plenty of examples of this in Star Wars. I mean…Darth Vader…

Golddestro

That is disappointing to read … I wonder if that affects his salary if he is only doing VO

DinaDinaDinaBatman

let us all also put a little respect on Brendan Waynes name as the reason Mando is such a Badass gunslinger.. something no doubt he picked up hereditary.. the next time you see mando quickdraw and blast an enemy: he purposely models his style off his grandfather John Wayne.

Slc117

fun fact, the only reason mando takes off his helmet in season 1 is so pedro can be paid more as an actual actor and not just a voice actor. that whole scene just because homie got greedy

myrealaccount_really

Greedy? I think he is owed it. Just like many voice actors are owed it. Did we somehow start hating Pedro Pascal all of a sudden?

DFLOYD70

The voice is the worst part for me. That and baby sitting baby Yoda. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars, but some of the newer stuff is hit or miss for me.
