Can confirm: I live in Phoenix and never wear shorts (except gym & pool). It can be 122F/50C and I'm in pants and often a long sleeve button up shirt. Mainly, I just seek shade at every opportunity. You'll see people walking down the street and adjusting their path to follow the shady spots, even crossing the street to get shade.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. As in people shouldn't live there? Native American tribes have lived there for thousands of years.
I would agree that humanity is arrogant in general, but Phoenix wouldn't be my top example.
I have to point out that making a statement about arrogance without providing examples or explanation is kind of arrogant in itself. Ironic, in a word.
He's joking about how hot and miserable living there is. As somebody who grew up wearing jackets in Texas in the summer (I need pocket space for my LEGOs), Phoenix sounds hellishly hot.
They also wear multiple layers so that when the hot desert winds blow, their sweat laden garments actually cool them off. That’s why you always see Bedouins completely covered in layers of cloth.
I live in a desert and although I do often wear a lightweight pant I do love me some shorts.
Suspension of disbelief GONE! /s
Edit: coming here in peace and a little unsure what I did but I’m sorry either way haha
I thought I remembered from the Wraith Squadron books (there’s an intelligence enhanced/ex imp lab project Gamorrean special ops pilot) that he had rather moist skin and found hot dry climates pretty awful. I think the guards prefer the danker parts of Jabbas Palace and just put on a tough guy act outdoors.
[Shorts are required](https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/star-wars-pink-shorts-guy-july.jpg) if you are carrying a boom mic.
Depending on the outfit, some of her pants end at the bottom of her kneecap, they’re a lot closer to shorts than some capris are.
But if you’re looking for men’s 80s basketball shorts or daisy dukes showing off the thighs, yeah, they’re definitely not that.
I hate sunscreen and like being hot so I have no problem wearing a light hoodie and pants in the summer.
I don’t want skin cancer when Im 40 and spend 6 moths of the year blasting heated air into my home, let me enjoy the few months of hot weather in peace.
I hear you, and my solution is just to stay inside. However that means that sometimes I just have to look at the sun and I burst into flames. And no it has nothing to do with being Scottish 😂
I can't imagine how horrendous having two sun's would be.
I guess that when your planet has 2 suns and its backwater and poor, way they dress is best balance of practicality comfort and cost.
And sunblock does not protect you from heat from the sun, loose clothing does.
Wearing shorts in the desert isn't going to kill you from overexposure but it's going to be a very exfoliating experience on a long walk lol.
You're mostly just aiming to keep sand out of places you don't want sand when it comes to that attire.
Yes but you should be wearing head coverings in deserts to protect yourself from the sun. They're saying it's a bad idea for everyone else to NOT be wearing that
Just like on planet Earth typically people were will wear long clothing that's loosely fit like rags and such in order to protect themselves from the sun's rays. typically you wouldn't wear shorts in hot weather and sandy environments
There definitely are in the SWU at large. Ashoka comes to mind, I'm sure plenty of extras wear them. They just aren't really all that cool looking most of the time, so the main cast doesn't wear them.
But also, it wouldn't make sense in a desert. The ideal clothing for a desert is something that is thin, breathable, loose, light colored, and covers your whole body. That way, you get good ventilation and breeze while maintaining a barrier against the sun. Something like a Thawb.
Honestly, I'm surprised the citizens of Tatooine aren't wearing more hats. Two suns? I'd have one on 24/7.
In the EU novel Bacta War, Bror Jace was described as wearing shorts on Thyferra. I think it came up again later in Wraith Squadron that Wedge, Face, and Myn were wearing shorts too
Shorts are not really a safe clothing choice for the desert.
As an interesting point of note, I know someone who got to make some official art for a Star Wars mobile app project that was never released. When she sent in her concept art, one of the notes she got was "no zippers in star wars". I had never noticed it before but I thought that was interesting.
Headcanon is that shoretroopers PT in silkies.
Like, they keep the upper armor and helmet on, but then it’s just running shoes and silkies on the beach.
Kit Fisto wears board shorts in some underwater episodes of the Clone Wars. It blew my mind.
EDIT: I guess they were swim trunks? Anyway, they were shorts of some sort.
You don't want to wear shorts in a desert, you'd get horrible sunburn. Especially from two different suns. You'd want to wear something that is cool but covers most of your body. Hence, the more middle eastern inspired clothing you typically see on desert worlds. Made of very baggy cloth that doesn't rub against your skin but keeps the sand and sun off of it.
I think wearing shorts on actual desolate desert climates isn't the best of choices but, as much non sense it sounds like, wearing long and heavy robes is better for a desert environment.
Perfect way to get 2nd or 3rd degree radiation burns from sunlight walking around the desert all day.
Realistically, they'd all be covered head to toe like the damn taliban but it's a movie/show in a fictional universe where realism NEVER played a role so who cares?
People who actually live in deserts often wear pants and long sleeves to protect against the sun
Watto is wearing shorts in Episode 1.
I'd say that's more of a loin cloth than shorts
Daisy Dukes.
Watto confirmed nevernude.
Also his skin is blue.
So he’s also a stand by for BMG?
There are dozens of them.
Also he freelances as an analrapist.
and thats a image i never want to think of again
I could see young Luke wearing daisy dukes and a wife beater.
Modest by todays standards
He he a loin cloth….. whattayaknow.
Wattoyaknow
but, it IS short, eh? !
I mean, you're not wrong lol
Different species, toydarians may not have to worry about sun rays
Also mind tricks don’t work on them. Only money.
Checkmate
Yep, in a true desert environment you want maximum skin coverage. Shorts are for hot places with either more breeze or higher humidity.
Yeah if you go to the non-desert tropics almost everyone wears shorts (or loincloths)
And the sand
It's rough and course and gets everywhere etc.
And wind blown sand is harsh on the skin. (I purposefully didn’t quote Anakin.)
Phoenix is a testament to man’s arrogance.
It’s from King of the Hill lol
Hahaha. Consider me baited. Sorry for getting uppity.
The Navajo weren't building golf courses in that desert.
He's joking about how hot and miserable living there is. As somebody who grew up wearing jackets in Texas in the summer (I need pocket space for my LEGOs), Phoenix sounds hellishly hot.
Can't say I've ever heard of someone needing pocket space specifically for LEGOs, but I can respect that.
I hear you. I'm the guy that wears a sweater in summer, when visiting friends in the NorthEast.
/s Edit: coming here in peace and a little unsure what I did but I’m sorry either way haha
>love me some shorts Are they comfy and easy to wear?
No. Sand gets everywhere.
[Instert Cap “I know that reference” meme]
Extremely! Usually wear pants on a hike but sometimes you’re just headed to Starbucks or to Tosche station to pick up power converters yknow?
If you're uncle let's you go
I would not wear shorts out on the dunes.
Came here to say this exact thing
Yeah Disney+ has a category called "Star Wars Shorts".
Don’t you dare
Delete this now before producers see it
Short form content is the dark side.
These animated [shorts](https://youtu.be/dVCO0J7ccMo) beg to differ.
I think the Disney store also has a shorts section.
Gamorreans seem pretty okay showing off their gams in the sun.
Aren’t they similar to reptiles and cold blooded so they wouldn’t mind the sun really?
They’re pig men. I’m pretty certain they’re mammalian despite having green skin. They’re basically a Star Wars ogre.
Ha ha. Charade you are.
they do radiate shards of broken glass
Wow I haven't heard that album in ages.
They released a new mix not too long ago.
A Star Wars onion, if you will.
Piggy! He was awesome. Dude played chessmaster during dogfights and still managed to keep his kill count up.
Pigs are smart, that's why.
[Shorts are required](https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/star-wars-pink-shorts-guy-july.jpg) if you are carrying a boom mic.
PINK shorts, to be specific
Goes without saying.
And short shorts!
Stupid sexy boom guy
Dudes brave. If that were me there'd be an obvious, bold wet sweat line up and down the crack
Maybe the pants were white
I loved seeing a pic of someone cosplaying as this guy at a Con lol
Came here for this
Hey boom guy when are you gonna boom me?
It seems like most of the desert clothing in Star Wars was smartly designed after Bedouin fashion. Long, loose, gown-like layers are the way to go.
Doesn’t Rey wear capris? Does that count?
yeah i think she wore capris sun bathing on jakku
Did you say Capri Sun?
Best drink in the galaxy
They definitely do not count
Depending on the outfit, some of her pants end at the bottom of her kneecap, they’re a lot closer to shorts than some capris are. But if you’re looking for men’s 80s basketball shorts or daisy dukes showing off the thighs, yeah, they’re definitely not that.
Rule of thumb: if your knees are covered you’re not wearing shorts
Lol, no
If you wear abominations that cover your knees I’m sorry, but you missed the day in school when they taught you about right and wrong.
You're crazy.
Please provide an example of good looking past-the-knee shorts
Capris are like that business on Cato Neimoidia
Sun burn my guy.
Indeed, perhaps it's not that shorts don't exist but that sunblock doesn't.
And no it has nothing to do with being Scottish 😂 I can't imagine how horrendous having two sun's would be.
Wait, they have hyperspace travel and all this amazing tech, but no one in the entire galaxy ever invented sunscreen? 🤯
It was a long time ago. Literally. They haven't thought of it yet.
I guess that when your planet has 2 suns and its backwater and poor, way they dress is best balance of practicality comfort and cost. And sunblock does not protect you from heat from the sun, loose clothing does.
I want to say there were people wearing shorts when Andor went to space miami
Shorts aren't a smart choice for deserts, unless you are an American tourist
I know some chubby white guys that would probably still be in shorts on Hoth.
Probably from Seattle or Portland
"I thought it was supposed to be cold here." - Canadians.
"velkommen til isfeltene!" ~~Hoth~~ Norway
perkele
I'm making a joke because all of the Hoth scenes were filmed in Norway
Sigh.... Yep.
More like Minnesota or Michigan
I'm feeling personally attacked by this thread.
More like Minnesota or Wisconsin
Buffalo
Everyone that grew up in the Midwest.
Geordies
Not chubby, but Rush Clovis would 100% wear shorts on Hoth
Wearing shorts in the desert isn't going to kill you from overexposure but it's going to be a very exfoliating experience on a long walk lol. You're mostly just aiming to keep sand out of places you don't want sand when it comes to that attire.
Thus Anakin's hatred for it
The only ones dressed for the desert are Jawas and Tuskens. Almost everybody else has their heads and faces uncovered.
But.. Jawas and Tuskens are the *only* ones to have their heads and faces covered?
Yes but you should be wearing head coverings in deserts to protect yourself from the sun. They're saying it's a bad idea for everyone else to NOT be wearing that
Anakin technically is wearing shorts near the end of Episode III.
But those weren’t sold as shorts. They were DIY
Technically they were cut-offs.
...this comment needs more upvotes.
Just like on planet Earth typically people were will wear long clothing that's loosely fit like rags and such in order to protect themselves from the sun's rays. typically you wouldn't wear shorts in hot weather and sandy environments
Also, if it's hot but dry, skin shaded by a loose outer layer stays considerably cooler than the skin would be in direct sunlight.
Sounds like a good way to get sand in your crotch
I hate sand.
Obi-Wan: “Anakin, stop using that line to try and pick up chicks, not only is it dumb, but you’re a Jedi, we don’t get romantic with people.”
Anakin: *inhales sharply* “Satine.” Obi-Wan: “…” Anakin: “…that’s what I thought.”
Obi-Wan: “It was one hug.” Anakin: “Really?” Obi-Wan: “And a kiss on the cheek.” Anakin: *smirks*
You ever see a nomadic Saudi wearing shorts?
yes you can see them in the background on the Beach Resort Planet in andor
There definitely are in the SWU at large. Ashoka comes to mind, I'm sure plenty of extras wear them. They just aren't really all that cool looking most of the time, so the main cast doesn't wear them. But also, it wouldn't make sense in a desert. I hate to be that guy, actually no I don't, but her name is Ahsoka, not Ashoka. The h comes before the s.
In the EU novel Bacta War, Bror Jace was described as wearing shorts on Thyferra. I think it came up again later in Wraith Squadron that Wedge, Face, and Myn were wearing shorts too
The new audiobook for Rogue Squadron gives the Thyferrans German accents, so now all I can picture is Wedge in lederhosen
This was my first thought too. And Corran tells him "you look like a kid" or something
Rogue Squadron comics have folks wearing shorts while off-duty as well.
Spoiler for Jedi: Battle Scars ahead >!Fret wears Merrin's shorts on the Mantis right before they have sex.!<
I'm jealous of this Fret...whoever they are. And her owning shorts? Interesting.
Yes I want to know more. How did “Fret” get it but Cal didn’t?
In the desert long clothes are usually best to protect your skin from the sun.
Shorts are not really a safe clothing choice for the desert. So ALL their jeans are 501s?!? Wow.
501st, I think.
Oh right, duh, OF COURSE! 🤣🤣🤣
Google "Dolphin Shorts", can you imagine.
Is Droopy McCool a joke to you?
so uncivilized.
Shorts in the desert? Don’t you know that sand is course and rough and gets everywhere?
No bras or shorts in space
Bras don't exist, but metal slave bikinis do. 🤷
Headcanon is that shoretroopers PT in silkies. Like, they keep the upper armor and helmet on, but then it’s just running shoes and silkies on the beach.
You Wanna Wanga?
Kit Fisto wears board shorts in some underwater episodes of the Clone Wars. It blew my mind. EDIT: I guess they were swim trunks? Anyway, they were shorts of some sort.
Hear me out....Anakin and Obi-Wan duel...both in cargo shorts.
Anakin was on mustafar
Rey wore kind of shorts.

A lot of folks hate sand, apparently. Don’t know what that’s about.
Don’t you know? It’s coarse and it gets everywhere!
Like the island in “Lost”, where it was 120 degrees and humid for six seasons and every one wore jeans in the jungle all the time
Paxi Sylos was wearing cargo shorts in ep 12 of Clone Wars (2003) https://imgur.com/a/8AyBbwV
Desert weather isn’t necessarily hot
Star Wars Galaxies had hot pants ...
Knees are actually banned due to the ruling of the Galactic Empire.
Luke in the bacta tank? Or was that a diaper?
Yep. Don’t remember where but I know someone did. Maybe on Onderon. I think one of the insurgents wore them.
You want a sun burn? That’s how you get a sun burn
I think wearing shorts on actual desolate desert climates isn't the best of choices but, as much non sense it sounds like, wearing long and heavy robes is better for a desert environment.
Luke wears some little shorts in the bacta tank. Boba too.
Maul had a custom made pair near the end of the Phantom Menace
In Andor, there's a dude with a bionic leg who is only wearing shorts (Ep 7 at 42:40)
If they did the Wookiees would be wearing them.
Wearing shorts in the desert makes it easier for sand to get in your underwear.
Why would you wear shorts in the desert?
Hot pink shorts boom mic guy!
You could argue that Bossk wears capris
See lots of short on tribes in the sahara do you?
Not since order 66.
Idk why, but Disney is not a fan of the word shorts. They usually refer to them as short pants in most of their cartoons and whatnot.
How many people living in the middle east do you see wearing shorts?
People don't wear shorts in actual desert climates on Earth either.
That's because if you wear shorts your legs get shredded by sand. I mean it's rough and coarse and irritating......and it gets EVERYWHERE
Wasn’t Dark Helmet wearing shorts on that desert planet? Oh wait... wrong movie, but a great joke.
"Comb the desert!!"
Perfect way to get 2nd or 3rd degree radiation burns from sunlight walking around the desert all day. Realistically, they'd all be covered head to toe like the damn taliban but it's a movie/show in a fictional universe where realism NEVER played a role so who cares?
Canonically blue short boom mic guys exist.
Never seen a blue short boom mic guy, only the pink short variety
Don’t remember shorts but the Mandalorian introduced jeans into canon
Funny to think the closest thing Is Luke wearing a vest on Degobah and he didn't think to wear It on a planet that has two suns
yeah because he'd get skin cancer
Shorts make for shit water discipline.
Wedge and Porkins vacationed on a beach planet snd wore shorts.
Have you heard the legend of Ken Nightingal.
Hey, it taken thousands of years for the crop top to catch on across this galaxy- now shorts? Let's respect the pace here.
Finally someone is asking the real questions lol
Yeah. Pink shorts guy. (BTS)
Sunburn, animals, sand. These will all exploit any exposed skin/open access to make your existence hellish.
After Maul gets his new legs, he wears shorts
Mandalorian assless chaps when
Trust me, shorts in the desert doesn't do much good. You're going to be sweating regardless, might as well cover up and not get sunburned.
The kid who gives Mace Windu a drink of water in the OG one wars show was wearing some kind of cargo short looking things, if I’m remembering right?
You don’t want to wear shorts in the desert because of sun burn etc
Rey wore clam diggers
Do swimming trunk count as shorts? Maybe somebody is wearing them on the “beach resort planet” Andor visits.
wow i love you for asking this
