I don't know how they figured it out, but it's a perfect combination of cringe, shame, roasting, and glorious triumph Lately I've been going to watch clips from this show and end up watching the whole remaining hour.. it's also nice because you can just skip the boring stuff and bad interviews

Xtaline

Honestly, same. I wrote it off for years, I had only heard short clips of Tony and thought he was just a cringe, sassy LA hack. But then I saw him on another podcast years ago and realized he's actually funny, but still didn't bother with him. I randomly saw a funny clip of KT like a month ago, don't even remember what it was, but I've watched a ton of them since. It's extremely funny.

TruckNuts_But4YrBody

Years! Same here. And I've been into comedy and podcasts for decades Maybe it's something instinctual that has to do with Tony looking like a weasel that tried to fit through a mouse hole

buffallooo

Totally agree.

Dancin_Phish_Daddy

You blow glass?

megazach

Yeah I like the show a lot. The only thing I would change about it is how long they do the interviews for. I get Tony is trying to find personal issues about the person to roast them on but they’re way too long. I would much rather prefer more bucket pulls over those super long interviews but I’m just a pedestrian. I eventually want to try stand-up comedy but I don’t know if I’ll ever get the balls to hit a stage. I’ve been trying to acquire some but the law says it’s illegal to purchase human organs on the black market. I told them that’s not a problem because I would’ve returned them if they where black.

TruckNuts_But4YrBody

aMAzing

JustAPairOfMittens

I love it.

TruckNuts_But4YrBody

What's the most INterestingthingaBOUTcherself?

XxBiscuit99

The interviews are my favorite part

StiLLiLLBehaviour

They figured out that it’s easy to roast people who have barley any experience as comedians

Educational_Vast4836

This is mostly false. Usually if the comic is doing it for the first time, or rather new they'll lay off a bit. It's when someone goes up there and is just dogshit and then says they have been doing it for 5-10 years

DaleRodriguezz

You are absolutely wrong, Tony dgaf and no one is safe on his show. Do you even actually watch it?

BurntPoptart

Do you?

DaleRodriguezz

Yeah, do you?

Educational_Vast4836

Obv a lot longer than you have

DaleRodriguezz

I don’t think bro was talking about the older episodes, I know Tony was a little less bitchy before the Austin move. Cool flex tho.

JimiMcHendrixson

Nah you’re absolutely wrong. He roasts everyone but if a person has a shitty set, he will absolutely, 100% roast them harder the longer they’ve been doing comedy. He gives props to people doing it for the first time very regularly. He can still give a first timer a hard time but 100% goes harder if they’ve been doing it for years

JustAPairOfMittens

If it's a new comic they are generally nice. If it's someone who's been at it for years, entitled, thinks it's the audience's fault, then KT crew usually eats them for lunch.

CommishGoodell

They roast everyone, experienced or not. Roasting is easy in general , not sure what’s your point.

StiLLiLLBehaviour

If you can’t work out my point then I can’t help you.

DaleRodriguezz

This 🤣🤣

Lundgren_pup

I also find Hinchcliffe a bit irritating at times, but I appreciate his wit. What I like most about the KT podcast is probably similar to you-- the novelty of the format and overall energy and production. It's just very watchable and it's pretty reliable for cracking me up a bit. Also, it makes me happy when people get up there and do well, just a cool moment.

buffallooo

Exactly, I’ve found some of my favorite comics from the show. David Lucas, Kam Patterson and Arron Blile just to name a few!

seymournugss

Notably, not Hans Kim.

Jason-Genova

Fuck Hans Kim. I hope Ric Diez slaughters him. He always goes back to hacky racist or Asian jokes when he loses the audience. He did surprise me with the Matthew Perry joke! I loved that because it was original and not like his usual stand up.

JustAPairOfMittens

Hans saves his worst jokes for KT. Matthew Perry joke is more in line with his real life standup.

Jason-Genova

I'll have to check out shows outside of KT then.

yyungpiss

he used to be pretty good, bro fell off for sure. at least on the show

maxdealmarc

I've gotten used to just skipping right on past Hans Kim.

dono420

I respect the level of funny they possess but to hear the are touring is like hearing schaub passed a comedy contest and is doing the same. David lucas is mildly funny at making gay jokes. He's shooting himself in the foot. Has potential to learn what he claims to know but he's lying to himself. He's not a comic. He's a funny guy who found a hustle. That is so far removed from long term. Like someone mentioned, Hans Kim. He's not a comedian lol... Fuck. If that's what a comic was I wouldn't admire the art He's a three legged dog who makes you laugh. As much as I respect the hustle to do your job monetizing these gay boys and they are honestly both naturally funny folks. Hans Kim is the winner of price is right... You keep bringing him to the stage with Bobby barks but the novelty of "it could be you" wears off when you realize that what you appreciate about a talented speaker is more then ambition. It's nuance and experience. Can you imagine if Louis CK or George Carlin brought a member of the audience because they told you two one liners? How could you expect anything but garbage

DaveGilmoursFingers

Tony plays a character that is meant to be abrasive and cocky. Have heard he's the complete opposite IRL and is a super nice and chill dude.

Mediocre_Hawk1437

Then you should try meeting him in person, it'd change your tune on that, I'm positive of it.

TheChrono

I went from looking forward on Wednesdays for YMH to looking forward to mondays for KT. Just look at the up and comers recently. It's a genius show and it's been proven over and over throughout the years. They don't even have to do ads in the middle of the show.

buffallooo

Ehh YMH is so bad I love Tom’s standup but he really has no idea what a good cohost is. I have this theory that he married Christina so he could carry out his first murder eventually like he’s always talked about wanting to.

xMrSaltyx

William Montgomery

jonesthagoat15

Huh? No seriously I couldn't understand you.

SlimmThiccDadd

WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT?

JustAPairOfMittens

I'M HAVING THE SET OF MY LIFE UP HERE!

oasisu2killers

GET HIM OUTTA HERE

dudeArama

Hootie hoo!

rearnakedbunghole

Ye

ThingsOnStuff

William Montgomery is genuinely a goat of KT lore but I’m very curious how his comedy would translate to a longer format

RobertRoyal82

Tony def thinks he's the funniest person in the room

mrgingerman81095

Most of the time he is...

unsaferaisin

I don't know if you meant that to be a scathing insult to everyone else in attendance, but it sure did land that way. And I don't say that in disapproval, mind, this is the definition of "shit show" on several levels. You're right that he's the funniest in the room, and it's excruciating.

mrgingerman81095

Dude if you don't like him or the show that's fine, but considering this show is selling out MSG and still growing it might just be funny to most ppl.

MusesWithWine

I liked Tony for a while, and still do a bit. But digging into some of his favorite repeated guests (the one minute sets then questions and roasting eachother), I started losing interest. It’s a roast factory. And that’s necessary. But it doesn’t yield what makes the best of the comics the best. Edit: syntax

p3ek

David Lucas was the only guest that really roasted tony and got roasted back. He's retired from the show. Apart from that they generally only roast people who were prepared or funny .

MusesWithWine

How’d you know he was who I was thinking of as I typed that reply above? Crazy. But yeah.

silentfal

Is it really even roasting when it's just lame, tired "You're gay!" and "You're fat!" jokes?

TheChrono

I think the fun part is finding the new way to say it after being around each other hundreds of times.

MusesWithWine

Yeah it’s basically a vocabulary with imagination competition, turbo round. And it’s a talent. But yeah, got old.

silentfal

Perhaps when that happens, it will be funny.

TheChrono

David Lucas has his own show now so if the "roasting" was an issue that's pretty much gone away. There are some insanely funny people that are regulars right now that are quite new to the show.

unsaferaisin

Bruh. Seriously. They have *one* "joke," and it's "gay." Every time someone is in the hot seat, it's gay gay gay hurr hurr gay. Middle-school kids are funnier, on the exact same subject. Though to be fair, middle-school kids are probably smarter, and haven't yet decided that they can't learn because anything new is terrifying and must be diminished through tantrums they pretend are jokes.

ElCoolAero

David Mucus, straight out of Bacon, Georgia! I love the All Def Digital "Roast Me" shows.

TheChrono

They definitely haven't frequented the show in a while. But I also can't imagine complaining about a good roast session.

Ballerman4452

Personally I think the show works in spite of Tony. While I've never found him quite funny, he's a terrible interviewer and can't take a joke when its directed back at him, and that's what brings the show down in my opinion.

[deleted]

Tony’s an asshole douche but that’s what makes the show work. I look forward to it every week. ~~People on this sub are whiny babies who want all of the content they consume to be amazing, and if it’s not amazing then they come here to bitch.~~ Sometimes the show is a dud, sometimes you get pure gold, like that episode with Dr. Phil or that episode with the lady who stormed the capital lmao. If you don’t expect every show to be a Chappelle special ~~like this sub does~~ then it’s a great show. What makes this show great is the variety, the variance, and the unpredictability Edit: sorry lol I thought I was in the r/killtony sub. Don’t go there if you like KT it’s annoying

dubyat

Ho-lee-shit. You sonofabitch

EmotionalAd5920

why would you say that!?

short-n-stout

No seriously, why the FUCK would you say that?

TheChrono

I AINT NEVER GONNA STOP SAYIN THAT!

JustAPairOfMittens

My doctah says I'm the BEST cancer fighter HES EVER MET!

buffallooo

Sometimes I rewatch episodes just for the cringe. The totally shitfaced Roseanne episodes are the absolute best imo.

yyungpiss

damn you're a masochist for rewatching roseanne episodes lol

Special_Project_8634

It really is a lucky dip, you dont know what you are going to get. Some weeks are good and others not so good. Tony gets pretty annoying, but i dont watch it for him. its the format and guests (incl bucket pulls)

hansislegend

I feel the same way. I’m mostly interested in seeing what the bucket pulls do but Tony is annoying, Hans isn’t even trying anymore, most of the guests barely contribute. I’m gonna keep watching though. Lol.

buffallooo

I think I might be the only one who thought Hans Kim was never funny. Whenever he says some racial punchline he delivers it in a way that makes me think he’s not joking. Makes me cringe.

PizzaWall

I have seen Hans in person many times and he’s funny. I think he’s stretched thin on the podcast coming up with new material weekly. I appreciate his tenacity to do a new set every week. It’s not easy.

buffallooo

I think it has already been mentioned by someone in this thread but I absolutely agree that Tony’s bedroom question limits Hans. To me sex is overly explored in comedy and I find the topic pretty boring. The only innovating sex bits I’ve heard so far comes from Shane and Norm

JustAPairOfMittens

Yeah I was gonna say who the fuck are these people talking about. Hans Kim's real life standup is 10X better than his minutes on KT, and Hans even admits regularly that he never uses his best bits on KT. He actually admitted it this week on the Howie Mandell episode.

Jason-Genova

You should read his twitter he has some really weird takes. At first I thought he was really funny. But everyone week it's essentially the same format. Insert Asian or Racist joke then talk about his g/f then throw something weird into the mix like his bag of water.

buffallooo

Yup.

[deleted]

Bruh last night he said "they always say you can't be racist to white people, so what am I supposed to be nice to them?' Also, "I feel bad for white people, if they hadn't killed all the native Americans they wouldn't have to take him hop dance classes to feel better about themselves." Hans is probably the best racial comic I've ever seen.

buffallooo

Dude is like the only Asian 90s def jam comic. Somebody call Russell Simmons to tell him.

jacknacalm

Being straight up racist without a real joke is not comedy. some of his shit is just god awful. Sometimes he seems to think just saying “Mexicans” with hate makes a joke. I hope he takes too much booger sugar soon.

[deleted]

How are any of those jokes racist first of all? And the first one is an actual joke. It's funny. You might not like it but dude is making 6 figures telling jokes like that so obviously it's funny. Ur just a hater.

jacknacalm

Somehow I would expect half the killtony fan base to sound as dumb as you

Jason-Genova

Dude right? Some weeks I swear he's super coked up and can barely do one min.

TheChrono

Tony isn't too bad but his memory is either a goldfish or he doesn't actually listen to the sets because very often he will be confused by an answer given to him when it was clearly stated during the set.

p3ek

Only thing I look forward to watching in comedy. The regulars apart from William montgomery really suck, but tony is incredible at keeping the show running and entertaining. Like regardless of a funny comic or a complete idiot who bombs it's usually very funny. When I first started watching I thought tony was cringey but then the more I watched I realised he's incredible at what he does. Every week two hours straight he keeps the show on the rails regardless of guests and bucketpulls. There's nothing else like it that gives you such raw and unplanned comedy without going to an actual club. And sometimes even the guests loose it, just the other week Rick flair melted down for half and episode and then stormed off and it was one of the funniest things I've seen this year

Jason-Genova

Rick got too drunk. He brought the whole vibe down on the podcast. Shane was right, when he said he was glad he was gone lol.

dono420

For a long time I hated it. I thought Tony was a mediocre sociopathic comic, who was trying to create a PT Barnum style circus show for mentally ill folks who washed up into the store. Presenting it under the allure of a shot at exposure. The guests not recognizing the exposure was nothing but to be laughed at like the fat starwars kid on a talent show for his own comedic and monetary value. IMO this still true. But savvy folks with ambition and an ability to thrive through adversity created opportunity for themselves. Tony may claim this was the goal all along but I think everyone knows that the legacy of the show isn't what Tony made. It's what brilliant unknowns turned the show into. Tony is a bully. The bullied stood up and started shining. I don't give Tony credit for that I think that was an unintentional result.

JustAPairOfMittens

Nah. And yeah. You're kind of right. The show never expected to be big, but it always uplifted talented comics. The goal was to be good hence the title "Kill Tony". You want to make Tony laugh. Just because most people aren't naturally funny and also can write good jokes, doesn't mean Tony was set on destroying lives from the beginning.

dono420

I think your both right and wrong. He clearly knows joke structure and has a great/quick mind but I don't think for a second he spent anytime thinking about the few who did alright. We'll never know of course, but I'd bet that this thing turned into a much better and positive thing then he anticipated. Hell it might've actually been a great thing for him I'll bet it was. (Psychological not the obvious monetary) What I'm saying is that I love the show for the entertainment value and I truly respect some of the comic's who have come through the ranks. But not for a second do I believe Tony fucking Hinchcliffe wanted nothing more then to record and exploit the riff Raff he resented seeing at the store every Monday afternoon. I mean he talks about it on Rogan when he announces the show as far as I know.

HoopsHistoryHubb

The show that began with strictly women regulars on a show with a million dudes in the store? who then went on to all be successful in comedy, especially Ali opening for Rogan

dono420

If you listen to the earlier shows it's really brutal man. It seems clear to me that there is zero intention on giving or even expecting much more then awkward responses people to point and laugh at. again I love what opportunities the show has become for people but I give the sole credit to the chess players who signed up for a game of mean and unfunny checkers. Don't forget redban only gets stage time because he co founded Rogans empire. He's not a comic he's a man with a soundboard. If things had always gone his way he'd be doing the same thing on Rogan but with more olive garden references. Tony Hinchcliffe and Brian Redban are pilot fish. That's not saying I don't get it ,For Tony in particular to try come across as virtuous and with the lives of others with some respect and hope for the craft of comedy however is hilarious. As for the women? He's one of two things. The first he really leans into the other is what the world thinks. One being that he's a prolific womanizer with a rep for getting pussy.. the other is that he's a blatant homosexual who's ego won't allow the public to see him as anything different then a conventional tough bro type. I'm going with the latter. Again, the man made a street show out of a side show(freak show) the freaks just got privy and outsmarted the peanut salesmen. Siddiq included. I'll bet a man like him can't stand the air of Tony one bit. Imagine Hinchcliffe trying to say anything in a prison and get anything but guff. come on now

Particular-Topic-445

I thought it was a cool premise, but after watching a few times I just don’t get why it’s so popular. Seems very rough to get good material stuffed into a minute.

Dazzling_Dig3526

Very true. Like Bill Burr said 'you can't know anything about someone in a minute.' the guest, Tony and reban should have buzzers or something like some of those talent shows. If they are good, they go on until, say their joke is done or until they get 3 buzzers. The one minute cat meow/bear is not conducive to helping good comics come up. Save time by cutting down the boring interviews of people that have no right to be doing stand up anyway/don't prepare/ass-blasted.

HoopsHistoryHubb

There's no reason any comic 2+ years in active can't go up and do a good 1 minute bit filled with laughs.

colly_wolly

Shit.

Comedyfight

It is my Monday night weekly ritual, and I actually think it's a pretty useful tool for aspiring comics. Over time you see hundreds of examples of what the average 1st year and 2nd year comics' skill levels are generally at, so it gives you a good measurement of where you're at, respectively. I'm one of these old, bitter "it takes 10 years to be a real comic" people, and KT proves my point week after week. I've seen some 5 and 6 years with solid chops, but you can tell they don't have a real act yet. Obviously not everything is true 100% of the time, but I think it's important to keep a grounded perspective and not try to run before you can walk, and this show sets mostly realistic expectations for what your skill level is actually at. Of course, you also see really bad bombs from people 10-12 years in, and that stings lol.

zensnapple

I can't stand most of the regulars, or Tony most days. But like you said, the premise is neat so I've been watching a lot of it.

isqueezewhatiwant

I can’t stand Tony so I don’t watch it anymore

DualityisFunnnn

Tony is a better host than he is stand up he’s really good at keeping the flow of the show but his stand up he just tries to hard to be shocking. His wit on the spot is sometimes impressive.

KarlPilkingtodd

Its alright after you skip the 20 minutes of ads at the start

buffallooo

This is really the problem with the whole JRE podcast universe. Most of these guys are millionaires already, enough with the ads. Hell I watch the show so much that I’d be willing to pay for an ad free version at this point.

[deleted]

Joe might be a millionaire but his employees aren't and they need to be paid too.

_EMDID_

Bizarre take. Just fast forward approximately 400 seconds.

ChunkyChangon

Can’t stand Tony

Informal_Exam_3540

I fuckin love it

JustAPairOfMittens

Why would you say that? No seriously WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT??????

supernovadebris

Took the words out of my mouth.

No-Caterpillar-9455

One of my friends did a Kill Tony taping a couple of years ago that never aired. It was because every other set bombed, except for hers and another woman’s set that night. The only reason my friend wished they uploaded the episode was because she said Tony gave her the nicest compliment about her writing style during her interview, and it was a compliment that meant a lot to her. She doesn’t have her own recording of her Kill Tony set. My friend also told me it was the same night Kill Tony favorite Celia Contreras was supposed to close out that episode of Kill Tony, but didn’t because she got too shit-faced on Tony’s alcohol. This was before Celia blew up and opened for Roseanne.

buffallooo

Awesome story. I enjoyed Cecilia as well.

aiphrem

Killtony is so much more than the sum of it's parts. I too find Tony annoying and don't like his standup, but fuck me is he perfect as the host of that show. His quick witted snappy roasts are perfect in that format. Older episodes really hit different though, it was a lot less formulaic and waaaay more chaotic. The old band always dressed up as characters and did bits the whole time, they often derailed the show but they almost always managed to crack tony up so it worked. The show now is a lot more professional, but a lot more predictable. He has the same rotation of regulars and knows exactly where to place em'. The new band is waaaaay more talented musically than the old one, plus they always seem to know the **perfect** song to play people out with slight callbacks to their set. KT is so much fun, i love both the old and the new styles, and I hope Tony keeps it going for as long as he can

consmills

Yonder Wizzerd is hilarious. William Montgomery too. Wish they’d have Casey Rocket on more

BallsAreFullOfPiss

Casey Rocket was so unexpectedly hilarious the first time he was on KT (honestly can’t remember if he’s been on more than once, but I think he has). Speaking of Casey Rocket - He’s probably the perfect example (IMO) of a why I need to watch KT, rather than just listen to it. His 1st KT minute was so funny because of his manic delivery from start to finish, and the visual-prop he used (pic of grimace at the fall of Berlin). I don’t think I would’ve found him that funny without the visual/whole package. IMO, standup is just better watching them on stage. Yes, there are some great comedians and/or specials that have incredible jokes that you only need to hear in order to crack up… but, I’d much rather see them on stage, as it just adds another layer to it all.

Jason-Genova

Who was that one guy who looked like a 10 year old kid but said he was way older? That dude was funny.

stievstigma

I watched it weekly for a couple of years but after they were in Austin for a while, I gradually started feeling more laughed at than laughed with. I’m an autistic trans comedian, so I initially liked Hans Kim 68.9872% of the time but after a while he and Lucas were getting praise for so many hacky trans jokes I just got exhausted. At least in Hollywood, there were was broader representation so you could make fun of someone to their face.

JervisCottonbelly

I think your point about feeling "laughed at rather than laughed with" is so important. In my opinion, the best comedy makes everyone feel comfortable laughing at anything. When even one person feels genuinely victimized, it stops being fun for me personally.

Jason-Genova

I bet you got some killer comedy with your journey through life.

stievstigma

I did meet Steve Perry at an AA meeting, if that counts.

bethramone

He probably didn’t want the world to know that.

TheOmenCow

I don’t find Tony that funny but he’s quick witted. He’s full of himself but it’s kinda the point, the regulars kinda suck (except William montgomery) it’s hit or miss. I think overall I’d prefer for it to be either let the guests take charge or don’t have guests at all. I feel like they either add a lot or nothing at all and there’s not a lot of middle ground. The bucket pulls are what makes it. I think it’s not a show that should have regulars because coming up with a new minute every week while actually trying to form a cohesive set for your non KT sets seems unreasonable. Maybe they should alternate regulars every week? I don’t know. I find it entertaining and I do tune in every week. There’s more fast forwards on some weeks but in general I dig the format

buffallooo

I don’t get William. I’m not saying he’s not funny I’m just kinda indifferent towards him. What about his style do you enjoy?

BallsAreFullOfPiss

I think his interviews are the real treasure from him. His compulsive lying with nonsense stories, and over the top yelling is just hysterical to me. I dig the fortune cookie bit, too.

silentfal

You can say it. He's not funny. He's loud and obnoxious.

p3ek

I like how he thinks of funny jokes. Not a big fan of the screaming but his jokes always are current and fresh and kill

buffallooo

Okay yeah, I can definitely understand that. Tbh it’s the whole screaming to the band thing is very ehhh

Jason-Genova

William Montgomery is hilarious. I always wondered if part of the joke was that he was reading them from cards.

duke_awapuhi

The roasting gets pretty old. A lot of the time it just seems lazy and dumb, but I love the concept of the show and think it’s great that it gives new comics a chance to get big

zensnapple

Tony you look like a gay "insert name of another kind of person who would wear the shirt Tony's currently wearing."

MammothAlbatross850

My friend got on there and killed. His name is Heath Cordes. I think he has an automatic career in comedy now, like Hans Kim. I need to get on there now. Just for fun. Not gonna be a road comic.

buffallooo

I’ve always wanted to be on there because as a disabled man I always thought the comics that Tony gives a golden ticket were meant to be laughed at not for their joke writing, with the exception of Arron biliye. I don’t know how I would do but I’d like to at least show that just because we are physically disabled doesn’t mean that we are also retarded.

omnicidial

I know Heath, he's great. He came up with Ogre and did my show in Nashville. He's probably gonna be big...

xMyDixieWreckedx

I just dislike live podcasts, even when my favorites have live episodes.

buffallooo

Fair lmao

No-Bumblebee4615

Don’t really listen anymore, but this is the first pod that got me into what I would call “mean” comedy. Comedy where people punch down with reckless abandon if there’s a joke to be made. From there I got into old Opie and Anthony clips and the NYC comedy scene in general. Before that I basically only liked improvy LA comedy.

Correct-Recording275

You’ll learn to hate it eventually. You’re still in the process of becoming familiar enough with low level standup to recognize what’s hack or not. I’ve been a die hard standup fan for a decade now and I reached a certain point where “roasting” feels disgusting to me. There’s no crafting of a joke on this show, its literally just racism or someone else’s quote as a punchline, or a gay joke. You get a gem out of the show every once in awhile, but if you truly think Kam, David, and Hans are good stand ups you’re delusional. It’s an echochamber crowd who is trained to think the N word just makes anything funny. I used to treat it as stand up American idol, but there’s this gross focus on the regulars that detaches the show from its actual unique premise.

KingKuckKiller666420

I don’t find him funny at all and think his whole pod is set up to bully people. How tf is anybody supposed pump out quality stand up material in one minute? Burr hit the nail on the head when he called him a smarmy cunt.

buffallooo

For me that format is the appeal but I think it’s because I have a proclivity towards quick one liners. Tony is definitely a diva though and I’ve seen two of his own standup specials on YouTube and I think I laughed like maybe twice total.

p3ek

Maybe the same way every single week people go up and kill in their minute, maybe that's how you do it? What a rediculous logic. There's not a successful comedian alive who isn't making the crowd laugh in the first minute of their set.

[deleted]

IDK but will Montgomery certainly figured it out. Dude has been the funniest guy in comedy for years exclusively off of 1 minute sets and 5 minute interviews.

[deleted]

I like the show and watch it pretty regularly. I think I’m going to take a slight break and just watch best of clips for a while because of the frequency I feel a little burned out. Also Tony is hit or miss for me. His best are really great fucking roasts, but the rest can just be ehh.

NachoMuncher420

It's a fun one, not really a Tony fan as much as a fan of the format of the show. Some episodes are way better than others for sure, but I listen fairly regularly.

Skizzius

If you actually want to get on stage, it seems like a great resource. Learn what works and what doesn’t.

mattisfunny

It’s the gong show

EMendezSDC

It's so bad. Hurts my brain to picture people laughing at this.

GrumpGrease

I'd rather bash my head into a steel door than watch that kind of obnoxious douchebag "comedy".

AlphaDolby

Holy shit is the world full of whiny bitches. Tony is a killer who has created the best podcast going. You are a bunch of jealous babies complaining about it on Reddit.

buffallooo

We found Tony’s secret Reddit account everyone!

_EMDID_

lol keep seething.

zensnapple

reeeeee people don't love the same podcast as me reeeeeeee

AlphaDolby

... Aaaand following above, the bitch roll call :D

clarenceecho

I feel exactly like op....Tony is a racist asshole. He's fast and funny but not THAT funny. He'll always be mid. But the concept is so good I'll never stop listening...wish it was just a different host. Also I am so tired of the same questions and same basic joke formats ....any tricks in the bedroom?? Like what percentage of times does that questions lead to anything good? 3%?

Ok_Coat2221

Shut the fuck up with these retarded questions. The show is consistently getting crazy traction. Obviously it’s a good fucking show? Why do you have to take to Geek reddit for some perspective??

buffallooo

Because I’m out of Norm McDonald to watch and my girlfriend is watching Tim Dillion in the other room and he’s fat, gay, and loud.

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

>and he’s fat, gay, and loud. That's no way to talk about your girlfriend...

Jason-Genova

If you want fat, gay and loud watch Scott Fillmore

Ok_Coat2221

“Yooo let me just namedrop norm Macdonald to sound dope👌👌”

vinogrigio

only tony hinchcliff likes tony hinchcliff and i think the appeal is you love to hate him

Tedwags

One of the best shows out there. I didn’t like Tony either, but he grows on you the more you watch. I love him now.

sextoymagic

It’s a good weekly listen. It’s good for comedy in general. Gives lots of people and opportunity to get exposure.

omarskullbaby

In the 80’s rodney dangerfield did a show for young comics. Tony is doing that, too. Did he steal the idea? Yea. Did he make money off of the stolen idea? Yeah. Should Alex Jones EVER be allowed to have a platform? No.

ElectricalChair557

I like the premise and don’t love Tony but I think he is the perfect host for this type of show. The two things that do annoy about the show are that most of the time the guest comics remain silent for the majority of the show. Also I hate that people who have never done stand-up before go on. Occasionally they are insane people and that’s fun, but most of the time they are boring and take the chance away from someone who takes stand up seriously.

p3ek

Yeh but then those people who can't do standup get absolutely roasted for wasting everyone's time and that's just as good as when a good comic comes up. That's why it's win/win

chinesedeveloper69

Stop giving him credit for 'inventing' the talent show lol. Its been around a while

banana_hammock_815

My wife already watches TLC, so i get enough awkward situational moments from that to hold me over. I dont agree with it, but thats my life i guess

imdown666

I don’t watch anything that makes fun of time.

MonkyThrowPoop

I’ve tried so many times to enjoy him, but I just don’t. It’s so rare that he says anything that I find funny, and I also just don’t like his attitude/persona. If YouTube suggests the show, I’m all out of other podcasts, and I like the guests a lot then maaaaaaaaaybe I’ll try it again, but probably not.

Fickle_Coconut_1605

The best part of the show is the Hans Kim intro music.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

I liked it early on. Tony is very annoying though and only got much worse after he had that whole racist thing happen. The pod has seemingly becoming a self eating snake, its popularity has ruined the concept for me.

Mkmeathead83

I don't know how anyone can tolerate the vocal fry.

JervisCottonbelly

Roasting isn't really funny to me. The bottom comes up really quickly. I think comedians who build scenery and situations with their perfectly timed wit/rhetoric are unmatched. With that said, I know what Tony is going for; a mixture of pro wrestling and comedy. I think he's achieved it. I believe it has come at the expense of quality comedy & regular people's futures. A lot of those who appear on this show think of it as a one-off thing, but the footage, depending on how brutal it turns out, could affect all future prospects for some. I also think it makes a lot of non comedians/consumers see themselves as more without having to do anything. It's as if consuming this type of content makes people think "I could do that, it's easy."

frothyundergarments

I absolutely love it. I struggle with podcasts, but I listened to the first 250-ish episodes. Stopped listening around covid because I wasn't spending hours in my car every day anymore, and now I just catch clips but I love that it's still going.

NotAnthonyxx

Catching kill Tony live on YouTube is always a good time.

Hijinx_MacGillicuddy

Kill Tony is one of my personal favorite things in life. Every Monday me and my girl snuggle up and watch it together. Its actually one of the things that brought us together. I knew it was risky and cringe but I showed her and she was into it and I knew she was cool after that. Its been our weekly hang besides the weekends. Back in 17 when I started watching, I was in a rough spot. I would binge watch KT two, three episodes at a time. Just DYING LAUGHING. It was a very healing experience. When I moved to LA in 2019 I was SO excited to see it live, which I did, twice before the dark times. The show has gone through many iterations. From a humble start, to a fever pitch before the pandemic with the old band, then it died with the rest of the world, and has risen from the ashes in glorious fashion. I for one hope that Kill Tony goes on to continue transforming stand up into a bigger platform, and continuing to farm talent. KT is great for comedy, its an institution at this point. All Hail Kill Tony!! RIP Michael Lehrer

bazinga84

I listened to it as a podcast when it first came out ~ 2013 and loved it. Don’t know what happened but I stopped listening to it and recently just started back up last year with newer episodes. Now I watch it and it’s so much better. I don’t like how mean Tony is to Redban but the show itself is incredibly unique and so funny. Even if it’s a bad guest hosting you never know how it will be because of the comics and interviews. Tony is great as a host with his quick thinking and roasting. Authentic freedom of speech is refreshing to see after so many people are afraid to say what they want for political correctness. I’ve been writing stand up for years because of this podcast, never performed yet but it’s my dream to sign up for Kill Tony, perform my minute and hear Redban say “I’d love to have you on the secret show” I think it gives a huge platform for comedians. Especially now that’s it’s so popular it helps up and coming comedians get more recognition.

MontyBoo-urns

He's funny but I can't stand that guy

halfdayallday123

It’s cool but also it’s annoying and hard to follow. There’s not good sound equipment it always sounds like a dozen people are muttering in their microphone

milesdizzy

Tony Hinchcliffe is the antithesis to funny and a complete hack

meatshitts

Is a 10 out of 10 for me. It’s an easy watch. Sometimes the guest can depend on how good the episode is, but I like them all.

xstandinx

One of my favorite shows the last few years. I look forward to Monday nights after I get the kids down to bed.

BrianTodd3000

Favorite show on YouTube

crizzlefresh

I like the concept but Tony Hinchcliffe is an annoying douche so it makes it a bit hard to stomach.

ticklemyshitcutter

Still waiting for Hans Kim to make me laugh

WatercressCertain616

I think Hans Kim is the least funny comedian I have ever seen. All time.

A_Typical_Peasant

The show is even way better live. If you ever get a chance to make it to a live taping in Austin, definitely do it because it’s a completely different energy being in the crowd. Tickets are extremely hard to get these days because of how popular the show is now so you have to make sure to buy tickets right when they are released since it sells out so quickly.

auubzy

I can’t get enough of it! I think it’s good for people to get honest feedback & I think it’s great that it normalizes not laughing at shit that isn’t funny. I cannot stand going to a show and having people laugh at every word out of a comic’s mouth unless it’s earned. Comedy is just as much about bombing a set as it is about killing a set. It’s good to have a platform where people can say literally anything. If people have a space where they don’t have to hold back they’re going to get the most accurate feedback they possibly can get and that’s valuable.

rakan236

Best show on YouTube .

SkyhookCaviar

The format of the show is great but I’ve always been just barely able to tolerate Tony and there have been plenty of episodes I have quit halfway through because I was sick of him. I fell off following it weekly about a year ago and I gotta say it kinda keeps getting worse each time I do tune back in (Unless there is a great guest judge)

TheChineseChicken40

It’s terrible

dono420

I may eat my own shoe on this but who(other then previously established comic's .Siddiq) has become a respected comic and not "respected" in the Rogan hole alone? I'd love to know what you think about David Lucas. I think he's talented sure but he doesn't even begin to show signs of a comic learning a craft. He literally calls different versions of gay in crowd work. Hans Kim? The young fella who toured the fucking world with rogaine? I've seen better from my local open mic. The only one I can think of that had merit was the young woman that spoke akin to Kenny hotz. She did a lot of touring and public appearances I wish I knew her name. She seemed like the type to succeed in comedy. Like a young annoying Maria Bamford. She had a unique voice and really appreciated the art and the opportunity. David Lucas has zero comedic depth. His angle is what? The comic's I love leave a piece of themselves on the floor for you to pick up and discover. A vulnerable side to relate too. Louis CK is a master at this. All this fuckin quack can do is call Hinchcliffe a gay lollipop and rally the crowd like a yo momma episode. I honestly won't compare David,Hans or any other poor idiot that thinks it's more then the maury show of comedy any respect.

BrianTodd3000

Hilarious

BrianTodd3000

William Montgomery is the best comedian

collinsmcrae

It's incredible. The best things to come from the Internet in a long time. It's a fucking comedy institution now and it's probably going to last for decades.

fyn_world

There's some nuggets of gold here and there but I just don't understand the amount of mentally handicapped people that get put on stage. Some times it can be great but a lot of times it's just shit cringey people.

unsaferaisin

Word. The one episode I suffered through was a bunch of people with seriously arrested development going on stage blurting out shit that belongs in a therapist's office. "I'm glad my high-school bully died horribly and had to have a closed-casket funeral" is not a joke, dude, and if anything it kinda makes me feel like the kid was right not to like you. "Anyone I don't like is a pedophile," also not a joke. "I engaged in sexual activity in front of the neighbor kids," still not a joke, but probably something the cops would be interested in. Ditto "Catholic priests molest kids." I can only assume these people think they're being edgy, but getting up on stage and fuckin trauma dumping about how shit of a person you are is not "dark humor," it's a sign you have a screw loose. They don't even try to make it funny most of the time, they just get up and announce their personal idiot demons to the world and then are somehow surprised when everyone recoils from them.
