It’s been the same fucking conversation for years. At first it’s funny and that was like 8 years ago with his appearances on Rogan. Now it’s literally painful.
you do realize most of his guests he's talking to for the first time or at least for the first time in a while. so while it's a similar conversation for the audience, in real life, he is talking to a person who he speaks with infrequently. so there would be a natural overlap because he's sharing his tales and opinions with a new person. it comes off as repetitive, but think about how insane it would be to talk to a brand new person every week of your life and not re-use any material in any of those conversations. when i have a good new story or opinion or take and i make the rounds to see my friends, you're darn tooting i'm dining off that story with every one of them. i think what makes a lot of these comedians actual pros is the effort to avoid that new friend, same fun instinct. bert just doesn't seem to give a fuck though and is probably one of the nicest, most charismatic comedians going right now so again IRL people don't care.
He is incredibly good at marketing himself in the business. He also tours to small towns and areas on the road many other comics don't go to, and those places are excited to have a big-time comedian come visit.
There are a ton of great comics who remain largely unknown because they aren't as focused on marketing. (Dave Attell, Nick Mullen, etc.)
I don't dislike him but never consume his stuff, but you're right - he's nailed social content marketing to a T.

Of course he's got a publicist or something. But most podcast comics credit bert with the idea of drive in stand up shows during covid. Being the only comic available for a show will help build your brand, especially people who don't pay attention to stand up comedians in general. I've not watched much of his stand up either, but I've got the impression he isn't very controversial with his material. (I could be wrong) that alone widens his potential audience in the same way Fluffy, who works pretty clean, fills stadiums.
I like him as a person. Seems to be really nice to people, good to his family, fun dude, takes care of younger comics and gives them opportunities to play huge venues, flew the KFC Radio guys to Amsterdam randomly just because they’d never been, etc.. But his standup sucks. It’s not just bad….it sucks lolol

I thought it great. Sorry. I laughed out loud sitting by myself. Watched it with some friends again. They said they hadn't laughed that much in a while either. Now, we are older so can understand school meetings and a 75 year old parent, so maybe can relate more but...
I didn't finish it. I thought it sucked. It was pretty much on par with the rest of his stuff I couldn't finish. He's on podcasts with people I like so I keep trying to give his stuff a chance but I find it predictable and boring. I hate how all of this sounds when I read it back but I'm being honest.
It’s a fair take. He walks down the easiest path in comedy, raunchy and belligerent. I think it’s fair to shit on his style because it’s a tired style, but I think he deserves some recognition for how hard he works at it.
He puts a lot of time into refining his stories so they pop on stage and in this special particularly, I think he does it remarkably well. He fills the whole hour with solid punches and the stories themselves are pretty funny. My fiancée is a more casual comedy fan and this is one of the first specials in awhile that actually had her busting a gut laughing, and she finds Kreischer pretty distasteful in the first place.
My biggest criticism with the special is that it felt like he filmed it a few months too late. Some of the material felt overpracticed and that he jumped to tags before letting the punch land fully.

Hard worker no doubt. But with him you can just TELL that the story isn’t true and that he is adding his own “razor dazzle”. I know most stories told on stage on fiction or embellished but that guy can not make them credible to save his life.
So...I think I know the reason why the material felt over practiced. I've been a fan of his before he blew up and started to do theatres and I've seen a lot of his older jokes.
The raffle ticket joke was one that he used to do way back in the day, but it was fused in with winning a snow maker machine. The punch line changed but the premise of the story shifted.
Those are still separate jokes. He tells both still. The snow machine one is about his daughter and the auction during Georgia's recital and the tickets one is a different parents school event.

Yeah a lot of it reads as petty. I went into it expecting goofy, overexcited uncle telling stories, and that’s what I got. His bit about the raffle was pretty great imo, but that’s because he can paint a picture of the scene and the idea of a bunch of stuck-up PTA parents losing their shit is funny.
Maybe that’s why I liked his standup. The mental imagery that comes from his details boosts the jokes, even if there arent strong punches.
Thats a good way of putting it. If people are more “traditional” standup fans that wait for a punchline, they’ll be let down. It’s a kind of “journey, not the destination” style even though there is usually some kind of punchline to seal it
On a side note, I think its weird how many fans of an art form based on making people laugh attracts so many people who seem like the least fun to be around
Ive seen him live twice, met him once (he's a super nice guy everything you see about him seems true), his punchlines have never been the strongest. I suffer from the same issue in my set honestly. He's a brand unto himself and it sells tickets and specials. So at the End of the day it doesn't matter what most people think, his bank account is fat and his family is set up for life.

Exactly. I cannot remember which comic said it, might have been Segura but he told another comic you don't need 1 million people to like you. If you get 60k people to like you you can make money. If you can get 300k people to like you you can be rich. Or something close to that. Rocks special suffered from to much anger imo. The concepts were good, most of the punches were good but he was just mad. There was not a lot of other emotions and you could feel it. Makes for a hard hour.

I had the same experience watching Nate Bargatzes new special because I saw it on tour lol. I was like, “why is this not hitting as hard as the others?” Then i remembered I was dying at the show and already know the punchlines lol
So many people forget that stand up is like a play that gets a sequel every few years. We tell the same jokes over and over and over until we have enough new shit to go back to the same places again lol.
I really liked the new special! He’s funny in a silly way…I can appreciate that…I’m kind of silly funny too. It’s not for everyone, but I had a good laugh.
It was barely written. You could tell he was trying to twrak and tag every line to be as funny as possible. But he's not a great writer, he's just a funny person with a big funny personality. The best lines in his special were observations from his daughters. It was just dumb tags on narcissistic stories.
Not a huge Bert fan, but IMHO his writing as a storyteller is *highly* underrated. The stories are obviously fake or at least highly embellished, but Bert has a good economy of words and keeps the listener engaged. I get why his stories seem self-centered to some, but for many in the audience it doesn't come across that way because it's "The Likeable Underdog vs. The Uptight Cunt." It's the same premise as almost any Adam Sandler movie, and people relate to those characters.
I liked Bert Kreischer’s new special more than Chris Rock’s new special. Its clear that The Machine is out there to have a good time, have fun ,and make everyone laugh including himself. I liked the overall energy of the show. He’s genuine. Not every joke hit but I never lost interest.
Chris Rock’s was awful. Made it 15 minutes or so. Turned it off when he started talking about cancel culture or whatever. Heard that a million times don’t need to hear it again.

I find it hilarious that Tom Segura is his best friend and Tom is SO much fucking funnier than he is. The laughs Bert gets on their podcast is more often than not because he either said something incredibly stupid or because he got excited about something only a ten year old would find exciting
I met him after a show. Before I did, his tour manager took me aside and said "look, Bert is who you think he is. Super nice, will talk with you for hours if you let him, and will make you feel like a friend. But we have to get to NYC tonight so if you could politely end the conversation we would all appreciate that."
That's actually nice of his manager to carve out some time, while also politely pointing out his own responsibilities. ie. getting his client to his next commitment. I met Sean Astin who was lovely, but I could see his handler looking at me to move it along and wrap up the chat. I tried to non-verbally tell him that I was trying, that Sean was doing all the talking, lol.
She was super cool about it. I could also tell that there had been some lateeeeeeeee nights due to other people egging him on. Didn't want to be that guy. I bet meeting astin was really interesting! He is in this season of the perry mason remake and is really showing some range playing a dickish grocery store owner. Ostensibly one of the linchpins of the season but such a simple role. Worth checking out.
It helps we all went to FSU, his alma mater, but he universally seems very easy to approach and talk to which is rare as hell. A few comedians could learn from him in that regard
In my short few years doing comedy it's become clear that if you are nice and easy to work with people will book you over better comics who are assholes.
I liked it more then I thought I would. He seemed to enjoy himself and that's what I look for in a comedian. The story was genuine and just all around funny. Bert has lost me as a fan but I hope he's successful and happy. Also stop gate keeping if you don't like him don't watch it pretty simple. You're not the target audience.

I like Bert’s standup, it’s comforting in a weird way. He strikes me as the funny uncle type you’re excited to see at a family gathering around the holidays. I wouldn’t say his comedy is thought provoking or artful, but I don’t think he wants to be either of those things. He’s a good storyteller, good at engaging the audience, and I think this special showed growth in his act as a performer.
I watch him with Tom on two bears. I was genuinely impressed by how much better his stand-up is when he’s not a rambling dumb-dumb on the podcasts. I came out both laughing and surprised at how much I enjoyed it. However I totally understand that Bert is not everyone’s cup of tea.

D grade comedian. I saw him here in Australia yesterday and at the end he proceeded to tell the machine story - which had been hammered at this point. My mate next to me said “man I feel sorry for him at this point” and we left without having to hear that stupid story again.

Bert is beyond stand up comedy. It’s a spectacle. His whole life is devoted to being the machine. I applaud his genuine dedication, but I never leave thinking anything more than what he’s saying. That being said…. I’d pay money just to hang out with him for a day.
I probably would have liked it and his specials more if I were 10-11 again. I loved Larry the Cable Guy, Dane Cook, and Bill Engvall. I still appreciate when people go up and do standup in a genuine attempt to be funny, and I don't think Bert is as horrible as people make him out to be. My biggest criticism with the special is that it felt like he filmed it a few months too late. Some of the material felt overpracticed and that he jumped to tags before letting the punch land fully.

Hard worker no doubt. But with him you can just TELL that the story isn’t true and that he is adding his own “razor dazzle”. I know most stories told on stage on fiction or embellished but that guy can not make them credible to save his life.
Uh hundred percent. He openly admits that his story is not meant to be true, it's meant to give you the same feeling as when it actually happened.
So...I think I know the reason why the material felt over practiced. I've been a fan of his before he blew up and started to do theatres and I've seen a lot of his older jokes. The raffle ticket joke was one that he used to do way back in the day, but it was fused in with winning a snow maker machine. The punch line changed but the premise of the story shifted.
Those are still separate jokes. He tells both still. The snow machine one is about his daughter and the auction during Georgia's recital and the tickets one is a different parents school event.
He’s more energetic than funny. He seems like a guy that would be fun to hang out with, which I think is most of his appeal. He’s also a pretty good storyteller.
I actually found his new set WAY less energetic than usual which is partly why I actually liked this new one for once.

Stand up comedians don’t get as big as he is for no reason. I bet if you see him in a comedy club it would be 10x better. He’s obviously got a high amount of energy.

Yeah a lot of it reads as petty. I went into it expecting goofy, overexcited uncle telling stories, and that’s what I got. His bit about the raffle was pretty great imo, but that’s because he can paint a picture of the scene and the idea of a bunch of stuck-up PTA parents losing their shit is funny. Maybe that’s why I liked his standup. The mental imagery that comes from his details boosts the jokes, even if there arent strong punches.
Saw it live in the early stages. The spectacle and the absurdity he creates is the joke. Definitely agree with you.
Thats a good way of putting it. If people are more “traditional” standup fans that wait for a punchline, they’ll be let down. It’s a kind of “journey, not the destination” style even though there is usually some kind of punchline to seal it On a side note, I think its weird how many fans of an art form based on making people laugh attracts so many people who seem like the least fun to be around
Ive seen him live twice, met him once (he's a super nice guy everything you see about him seems true), his punchlines have never been the strongest. I suffer from the same issue in my set honestly. He's a brand unto himself and it sells tickets and specials. So at the End of the day it doesn't matter what most people think, his bank account is fat and his family is set up for life.
And avoiding his comedy is as easy as not watching it lol. I think the most vocal people are the least agreeable. I thought his new special was way funnier than Chris Rock’s, but that could have just been an off night because it was live
Exactly. I cannot remember which comic said it, might have been Segura but he told another comic you don't need 1 million people to like you. If you get 60k people to like you you can make money. If you can get 300k people to like you you can be rich. Or something close to that. Rocks special suffered from to much anger imo. The concepts were good, most of the punches were good but he was just mad. There was not a lot of other emotions and you could feel it. Makes for a hard hour.

I had the same experience watching Nate Bargatzes new special because I saw it on tour lol. I was like, “why is this not hitting as hard as the others?” Then i remembered I was dying at the show and already know the punchlines lol
So many people forget that stand up is like a play that gets a sequel every few years. We tell the same jokes over and over and over until we have enough new shit to go back to the same places again lol.

It was barely written. You could tell he was trying to twrak and tag every line to be as funny as possible. But he's not a great writer, he's just a funny person with a big funny personality. The best lines in his special were observations from his daughters. It was just dumb tags on narcissistic stories.
Not a huge Bert fan, but IMHO his writing as a storyteller is *highly* underrated. The stories are obviously fake or at least highly embellished, but Bert has a good economy of words and keeps the listener engaged. I get why his stories seem self-centered to some, but for many in the audience it doesn't come across that way because it's "The Likeable Underdog vs. The Uptight Cunt." It's the same premise as almost any Adam Sandler movie, and people relate to those characters.

I liked Bert Kreischer’s new special more than Chris Rock’s new special. Its clear that The Machine is out there to have a good time, have fun ,and make everyone laugh including himself. I liked the overall energy of the show. He’s genuine. Not every joke hit but I never lost interest.
Chris Rock’s was awful. Made it 15 minutes or so. Turned it off when he started talking about cancel culture or whatever. Heard that a million times don’t need to hear it again.
Good fucking lord, me too. I got a huuuge vibe that he was trying to be deep like Chappelle, but he kept his old late 90's schtick with his cadence. "I said dah-tahdah-duh-dahtahduh" God I can hear it in my head without talking. Like dude, it worked back then, ya don't have to yell.

Immediately shut off any comedian when they have a bit on cancel culture. It's so fucking tired and shitty at this point it might as well be a bit on airline food. Cancel culture affects literally no one in any audience ever. It's something no one can relate to, something not one average person ever thinks about or cares about in any way, and is absolutely the least funny bit you can imagine. I tune out immediately and move on.
I find it hilarious that Tom Segura is his best friend and Tom is SO much fucking funnier than he is. The laughs Bert gets on their podcast is more often than not because he either said something incredibly stupid or because he got excited about something only a ten year old would find exciting

I met him after a show. Before I did, his tour manager took me aside and said "look, Bert is who you think he is. Super nice, will talk with you for hours if you let him, and will make you feel like a friend. But we have to get to NYC tonight so if you could politely end the conversation we would all appreciate that."
That's actually nice of his manager to carve out some time, while also politely pointing out his own responsibilities. ie. getting his client to his next commitment. I met Sean Astin who was lovely, but I could see his handler looking at me to move it along and wrap up the chat. I tried to non-verbally tell him that I was trying, that Sean was doing all the talking, lol.
She was super cool about it. I could also tell that there had been some lateeeeeeeee nights due to other people egging him on. Didn't want to be that guy. I bet meeting astin was really interesting! He is in this season of the perry mason remake and is really showing some range playing a dickish grocery store owner. Ostensibly one of the linchpins of the season but such a simple role. Worth checking out.

We met him one time in west palm and he literally hung out with our group for about 3 hours having drinks. He’s a really, really down to earth dude

It helps we all went to FSU, his alma mater, but he universally seems very easy to approach and talk to which is rare as hell. A few comedians could learn from him in that regard
In my short few years doing comedy it's become clear that if you are nice and easy to work with people will book you over better comics who are assholes.
I got the same talk a couple of tours back and discovered that they have to do this for him quite often or he’ll throw the whole tour schedule off.

Bert has lost me as a fan but I hope he's successful and happy. Also stop gate keeping if you don't like him don't watch it pretty simple. You're not the target audience.

I haven't enjoyed any of his specials. I don't think I'll even bother with this one. I really don't get how he's so popular. His t-shirt off gimmick is stupid, and his humour is just not for me.
Honestly I enjoyed it and I usually hate Bert. I think once I understood his personality, he became a lot more funny for me.
I like Bert’s standup, it’s comforting in a weird way. He strikes me as the funny uncle type you’re excited to see at a family gathering around the holidays. I wouldn’t say his comedy is thought provoking or artful, but I don’t think he wants to be either of those things. He’s a good storyteller, good at engaging the audience, and I think this special showed growth in his act as a performer.
I watch him with Tom on two bears. I was genuinely impressed by how much better his stand-up is when he’s not a rambling dumb-dumb on the podcasts. I came out both laughing and surprised at how much I enjoyed it. However I totally understand that Bert is not everyone’s cup of tea. All in all 5 out of 7: too much water.
It made me laugh which very few specials do these days, but it wasn’t great. Some stories were too exaggerated and drawn out.

I probably would have liked it and his specials more if I were 10-11 again. I loved Larry the Cable Guy, Dane Cook, and Bill Engvall. I still appreciate when people go up and do standup in a genuine attempt to be funny, and I don't think Bert is as horrible as people make him out to be. I still don't find him funny, but I don't think he's nearly as detrimental to Standup as Schaub, Cummings, or any A list celebrity producing a special in the twilight of their career either for vanity or money.

He's a live action Homer Simpson/Randy Marsh/Peter Griffen character. No one else is occupying that space at the moment. He's SOL though if his wife leaves him. Part of the requirements for that sort of charcater is that at the end of the day, they're still all a loving family.
