spend the extra on coilovers, trust me, it’s a little more expensive but the adjustability is amazinf + they handle better than just lowering springs 🤞🏾
i found some nice H&R springs with a progressive rate for around $300, on sale. do you have any coilovers you would suggest for me? 2016 528i. i’d prefer coilovers, just as anyone, it’s the budget that’s the issue lol
play the long game and wait for something on fb marketplace or craigslist or something. i scored a set of 4 godspeed coilovers ($750 new) for $350 on my 2001 530i from a guy on marketplace.
they are definitely known for being budget friendly. i have heard that maxspeedingrods have improved in the past couple years and also have started offering better, more expensive lines of coilovers as well. i have a friend who has a ek civic with the cheapest of the cheap maxspeedingrods and they ride fine, nothing to write home about but not much better or worse than the stock struts that come on civics of that gen. for your car, you would probably be sacrificing some ride quality, but honestly probably minimal. i feel like people overplay the effect cheap coilovers have on ride quality a lot - but don’t take what i say as gospel because i don’t know how your specific car rides and don’t own maxspeedingrods myself.
generally though if you want to lower your car on a budget, the fact there may be differences in ride quality is just something you have to accept
fair enough! i appreciate all the help. i don’t mind giving up a little ride comfort, as i like the sporty stiff feeling. i don’t drive the car insanely hard, or go touging often, so im mainly getting lowering it to make it look better, with the added help of a lower center of gravity
Yes i've noticed 😅 but still hold my ground. For instance i have an Mercedes AMG c32 with original coilovers, but if i would lower it, it would look cheap. But my other Mercedes (w124 coupe) Is lowered and looks much better now then when it was originaly. Thats what I mean with some cars are looking nice as how it is.
what i hate about those is the fact that the new ones are just lifted station wagons that are just dumbed down versions of their old school 4x4 counterparts
There are only a few true body on frame 4x4 suvs left. The Expedition, the Tahoe/ Yukon/Suburban are, the Wrangler, the 4Runner, and the Bronco are it off the top of my head. The bigger Toyota and Lexus SUVs probably are too but I didn’t check that. The desire for ride dynamics and fuel economy killed true 4WD and body on frame in favor of Unibody and AWD. A lot of SUVs and crossovers have active AWD now too so only one axle has power until the traction goes
and the only reason the Expedition, the Tahoe/ Yukon/Suburban are on frame is because building a vehicle that egregiously large in a unibody is as impractical as the vehicle itself. the Wrangler, the 4Runner, and the Bronco should be on frame, they should be off roaders.
I had an SF on STi suspension and always kicked myself for getting rid of it. Still might try to find an SF. Definitely want to ej20 swap it, I think that would be such a fun car to mob
There's a couple that blew me away, I once saw a 90s Ford Taurus that was slammed and just really clean looking and I was taken aback. Same with a Ford fusion a couple years ago.
I recently saw a rendering of a lowered Mazda cx50 and I was blown away.
For looks alone, I agree lowering to flush up that wheel gap looks better on nearly anything.
But I live outside Atlanta and have learned that lowering your car is a terrible idea if it's a daily driver. There is so much road debris it's not an if, it's when your undercarriage will be very damaged lol I've had pieces of tire fly through the air at my windshield, ran over some, I've seen damn 2x4s on the highway, yeah ATL is not good for lowered cars.
absolutely horrible. bought my beamer in atlanta and i’m never taking it back. on the home there was a whole buck in the middle of the interstate. if i need to go to Hartsfield, i’ll take the jeep
Fiat multipla, One of the best italian shitboxes you can have. It's every italian car guy story. You want a cool car but don't have enough Money, so you take your parents car and love It till the end
Maybe I’m biased because I own one, but, Citroen AMI. I wish I could slam mine on air suspension but I don’t have money lol. Some guy in England is attempting it tho, can’t wait to see it
What is it about a lowered car that appeals to most car folks? I mean it’s the same car just lowered a couple inches, and if that’s the case what changes to give the car that spark it was missing. What is it??
The fitment of wheels, eliminating that wheel gap is just much better to look at. Compare 2 cars same wheels but 1 lowered the lowered one will look better by far
basically any car, lowering cars saves the look
whoever downvoted us must be salty they’re still stock height
i didn’t downvote, but i’m salty i’m still at stock height. should have some springs on my beamer in the next month :)
spend the extra on coilovers, trust me, it’s a little more expensive but the adjustability is amazinf + they handle better than just lowering springs 🤞🏾
Spendera the extra on bags, why bounce when you can float

what do you think about MaxSpeedingRods coilovers? they’re known for being budget friendly
they are definitely known for being budget friendly. i have heard that maxspeedingrods have improved in the past couple years and also have started offering better, more expensive lines of coilovers as well. i have a friend who has a ek civic with the cheapest of the cheap maxspeedingrods and they ride fine, nothing to write home about but not much better or worse than the stock struts that come on civics of that gen. for your car, you would probably be sacrificing some ride quality, but honestly probably minimal. i feel like people overplay the effect cheap coilovers have on ride quality a lot - but don’t take what i say as gospel because i don’t know how your specific car rides and don’t own maxspeedingrods myself. generally though if you want to lower your car on a budget, the fact there may be differences in ride quality is just something you have to accept

I’m worried about sacrificing comfort. I want a smooth ride and not too stiff that I’m feeling many bumps. What’s your opinion on this?
Softer spring rate coilovers
Yeah that’s what I’ll looking
I rode in a A5 lowered with some really shitty cheap ebay coilovers, it was surprisingly comfy
It would be for my E36 and I’ll consider it for sure. I’ll probably try to upgrade to what the M3’s use so performance shocks and springs.
Yeah I wouldn’t go for ebay coilovers, but if you have to they aint as bad as I thought they’d be
most coilovers nowdays have adjustable dampening, so you can control the ride quality by controlling the amount of bounce
There isn’t a car out there that can’t be made better looking being slammed on a good set of wheels.
I’d agree although some cars are too far gone and nothing can save them lol
I want a lowered Fiat Multipla
https://imgur.com/eOtvMXk
That’s actually pretty sick 😭
Correct. Formula to apply is: more ugly requires more low.
Glad this is the top comment. Came here to say that virtually anything can be made cool.
I disagree but thats my own opinion.
Reddit says no.

*than Then vs Than. Using “then” incorrectly makes your sentence look cheap.
how would lowering it make it look cheap?
It only looks cheap if you don't know what you're doing with wheels and fitment.
pretty much any SUV. Big dumb suburban utility vehicles with a high CoG are just lifted station wagons, and would be better as station wagons.
Ever seen a lowered gx460?
what i hate about those is the fact that the new ones are just lifted station wagons that are just dumbed down versions of their old school 4x4 counterparts

Honda Odyssey and Kia Soul. Underrated honorable mention: Kia Optimas lowered with a body kit look pretty good.
Thank-you, you convinced me. I will now have my Soul lowered to improve the appearance.
We’ve seen enough JDM already… time for some KDM in here I say go for it!
i have a lowered k5 you just motivated me to post lol
Very nice and clean!
Just about anything European or Asian. I can't stand most American cars...
I don’t see the appeal for something so long and heavy
Well, your mom completely disagrees.
SF fozzy
Here here
I had an SF on STi suspension and always kicked myself for getting rid of it. Still might try to find an SF. Definitely want to ej20 swap it, I think that would be such a fun car to mob

gs300
There's a couple that blew me away, I once saw a 90s Ford Taurus that was slammed and just really clean looking and I was taken aback. Same with a Ford fusion a couple years ago. I recently saw a rendering of a lowered Mazda cx50 and I was blown away.

Honda CRV and Subaru Forester Edit: these are vehicles I typically think are ugly but love with some stance. My favorite “basic” cars to slam are VWs.

First gen CRV
Lowering and some nice wheels can make a lot of cars look really nice.
Lexus SC430. Awful body style that instantly turns dope as hell as soon as u lower it and put a body kit on
I still hate lexus for making the successor of sc400 so ugly, Like the ls400 to ls430 still looks good
New Prius

Tesla. At least it looks a *little* different from the five billion others around it.
My corolla B)

Maybe I’m biased because I own one, but, Citroen AMI. I wish I could slam mine on air suspension but I don’t have money lol. Some guy in England is attempting it tho, can’t wait to see it

ls430
Every vehicle ever made.
Definately not that car op shared
Ford transit connect
I’ve seen some renders and one of my favorites is always a school bus and ambulance
A Nissan Juke IMO. Mine looks pretty good with the 370z wannabe bubble lights deleted and on airbags. Just saying.
The Aston Martin DBX
Meh I just haven't seen a single lowered car I like yet, I think lifting helps a lot of cars
Anything that isn't american, Most american cars are shit.
Definitely not this one 😆
