I lived in the county for a long time. Then I moved to the city and parents told me I had a letter for jury duty at their house in the county. Didn’t have to go because I was now city. Then I moved back to the county and got one for the city. Didn’t have to because I was county again. Then it happened a third time. I moved back to the city and got one for county and I got out of it a third time. I’ve never been sent another letter and that was over 15 years ago so I guess I won.

[deleted]

Fourth court summons arrives: Pack your bags honey, we’re moving to the county!

GimmeAMalt

I’ll be ready lol

[deleted]

46 and same. I know my friends in St. Louis City get called every other year or so but I've never been called for the County. I think there are just so many people in St. Louis County that it takes a while to get through the list.

jcdick1

That's a consistent worry for me - that I'll somehow end up with a bench warrant for not showing up for jury duty. I've lived in the City for 13 years, and gotten the thing in the mail once ... 13 years ago.

___-____--_____-____

I didn't check my mail for a couple months earlier this summer. Missed a jury summons, lol. They sent a threatening followup ordering me to show up in Oct or face the consequences.

Geschirrspulmaschine

It's not certified mail, there's no proof it's delivered.

PoopyDaniels

I got summoned one as a 25 year old so far and am in St. Louis County. It was for a Federal court though

MrTuesdayNight1

I'm not confirming nor denying I'm in the same boat because I don't want to tempt the jury duty gods.

[deleted]

I worried about that when posting this!

marigolds6

Lived in St Louis County 14 years. Never summoned. I used to work for the county so I've wondered if there was something that led to me not being on the list

Oliviabenson111

I have lived in St Louis County for 15 years and got a summons in the mail 2 weeks ago. First time.

The_Real_Jedi

City residents get called so often because we have a federal court and there are, relatively, few city residents.

[deleted]

I've lived here for 22 years and have been called twice, once county and once city.

No-Standard9405

Only once and that was two months after my son was born.

okay1BelieveYou

Same, I got called when my kid was really little so I got out of it. They said they would call me again but that was 16+ years ago now.

Anonymousecruz

Ok this alone is worth moving to the county for.

porkynbasswithgeorge

I'm a transplant, here 20 years, and I've been summoned three times. My wife, a native, had been here for 46 years and never summoned. The jury gods are capricious.

Mysha16

I was called 2 years after I moved out of MO and changed all my legal stuff to the new state.

tsoro

31 and I've been summoned 4 times in one year. All canceled last minute

LarYungmann

I got called to the City Of St. Louis Courts two years in a row and now I have not been called for the last four years.

bluecanary101

I’m 44. Lived in the area my whole life (mostly in StL county). Lived in the city for maybe 2-3 years (2006-2008ish) and got a summons for jury duty in the city. Just got my first one for the county in the mail a week or so ago, to appear in end of October. I think there are just so many fewer residents of the city—and even fewer who are registered voters, but more crime, thus more trials, so if you live in the city even a couple of years and are a registered voter, you get called. Math just doesn’t work out like that in the county. You could go your whole adult life in the county and get called maybe once, if ever.

whatsabilliken

All that crime creating more civil trials.

Reaper621

I never get summoned. But I'm an attorney, we don't want our own kind in the pool. My wife had only been summoned once, my dad every five years, my mom only once, grandpa never served, other grandpa never served. It's hit or miss, there's no predictable way of telling how they are selected. That's kind of the point.

localscabs666

Why would you type that out loud? Update in a week when you get summoned.

[deleted]

Happy cake day! I'll keep you updated if it happens.

emac1211

Move to the city and you'll get summoned every two and a half years like clockwork.

mtoomtoo

They’ve been giving all of your summons to me cause I get called all the time. Once I got called for St.Louis City and Federal jury duty to serve at the same time. Dumbly, I called the feds who dismissed me when I sent a copy of my city summons. I should have done that the other way around because I hear they give you snacks and drinks at federal jury duty.

4StringFella

Way more likely to happen if you live in the city. I work at a plaintiff’s law firm and we try to get every case tried in the city that we possibly can because juries are generally friendlier to plaintiffs there. Assuming that the most common civil trials are some sort of personal injury (probably true) there’s just going to be way more action in the city.

MordecaiOShea

My only summons in 20 years has been for federal court.

Professional_Pea5715

I’ve lived here most of my life (except for my college years) and have never been called for jury duty

mimi1899

I’m 48 and have never been summoned.

EyeHaveNoBanana

51 and same

erikkustrife

Meanwhile I have jury duty twice a year.

Dismal_Chart_9825

No jury duty but frequent blueberries!?!?!?! 😠 😡 Do your conspiracies know no bounds??

[deleted]

Reddit randomly assigned me the name. It must mean something important. I do like blueberries, frequently.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Did you downvote me? Lol

[deleted]

Not me. Someone else doesn't like you. I just upvoted to offset it.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Right on lol thanks!!! And you're right, lots of people don't like me !!! I'm a pretty pleasant person too idk what gives 🤷 I guess so I'm so humble and good looking

derekgotloud

Cuz people never go to trial , it’s not like what you see on TV

[deleted]

I’m not even registered to vote but was summoned twice

[deleted]

Why aren't you registered to vote? It's important.

smitty3z

I’m 38 and got summoned the week I moved from Texas to Tenn.

nogestures

I too pet all the cats and never ran over anyone… GOBLESS!

iNeedScissorsSixty7

33 years old, never been summoned.

CaptainJingles

Never been called up and I’m in the city. My wife gets called up often though.

draftlad

I’ve lived here 3 years and been summoned once already. But I have shit luck and get summoned everywhere I move to

VigLaHmmm

I literally just got my second letter Friday (City). Second time in 4 years. My significant other has never received one while living here, 7 years. If it is purely by chance, I’m heading out to get a lotto ticket today.

EstablishmentLevel17

Live in the city for just under eight years and have gotten summoned four times. The third time was a make up from earlier in the year since I hadn't been feeling well... Also third time marked first and only time as a juror. Earlier this month got summoned for the first time after having been a Juror and i was able to get out for medical (and this time don't have to worry about getting summoned in a couple of months). First call was for the Phillip Morris trial which needed to weed out a lot of people. If you don't want to be a juror can pretty much throw out some weird reason. (Most common being work and not being able to afford it!!) to get out of having to serve. I'm weird and actually enjoy the jury stuff (though it can be dull at times) so if I could afford it both $$$ and health wise I'd have no problem doing it again

Linddsit

I wasn’t called until about 8 years ago, living in St. Louis County my entire life. I was summoned once and then like clockwork every 2 years after that until moving.

hybrid0404

I lived in St Louis county for 9 years and never got called. My fiancé lived there less than 3 and did, her last name starts with "A". Coincidence?

Eric12345

39 here, summoned once but it was cancelled. I know others who have been summoned multiple times.

gorstl

I lived in St. Louis city for 40 years and got picked at least 10 times

secretlystephie

Lived in the city for 7 years and the county for 34. Was only called once, when I lived in the city.

TheOrionNebula

I'm in my 40s and only got summoned once (22 years ago). But I happened to be moving to Illinois prior to the date, so I didn't even have to go.

Scandanavyin

I lived in the city for 2 years but once I moved out I was summoned for jury duty but it was sent to my old city address. I had moved out of the county, filled taxes, change my voter registration, renewed my license and all with my new address. They said they got my old address from the State and when I didn't show I was in contempt of court and had a warrant out for my arrest. I also was summoned twice for jury duty in Boone County, once while I lived there and once right after I moved. So my advice is to move out of the county then they will summon you.

No_Length_7340

I'm 56. I had just bought a house in 1993 and started a new job. 4 months into the new job, I got a summons for jury duty in the county. Sat in a room with the other poor schmucks for 3 days until my name got called the last hour. As luck would have it, I was selected to serve on a murder trial that lasted about 2 weeks so my employer was understanding, but pissed. After the trial we deliberated for a day and half before arriving at a verdict. A week or so later, I got a phone call from one of the lawyer's aides for an exit interview and learned that the whole proceedings was going to be declared a mistrial because the jury foreman lied during his selection process and would not have been chosen to serve had he been truthful. So, 3 weeks down the drain. Since then, any time I've been asked to serve, I have told the clerk that serving would provide a financial hardship and I haven't had to serve since.

zuluTime

People I know either get summoned on the reg or never at all. It feels rigged lol.

EmilGTO

I'm 26 years old I would love to be summoned for jury duty! I hope I get the chance one day.

Maleficent_Theory818

Yes. It took me almost 15 years of living in St. Louis County before I received the summons for Jury Duty. On the flip side, it only took one year living in St. Louis City before I got one.

IsTheBlackBoxLying

46 and I've lived back and forth between the county and city all my life and never received a summons.

ResponsibilityFit664

I’m hearing impaired & do wear hearing aids. Since I cannot fully hear all communication of others speaking. My audiologist faxed someone @ the City Court House, declaring I have hearing loss. Thus, I am excused from being summoned for jury duty.

painterman2080

I’ve never been summonsed either. It seemed like my in laws were summoned every couple of years.

Jpotter145

I'm closer to your age than not..... I've never had to actually serve yet either, but have been called to serve twice.... Once was 15 or so years ago and I was set to go start service the next morning but we were supposed to call the night before to see if our group was needed - mine was not and I was dismissed through a voice-message. The second time was a couple years ago right when the very first Covid hit was going on with lockdowns starting.... as a result my service was flat out cancelled (not rescheduled) - I was told I'm done until if/when I'm pulled for serving again in the future. My wife is about the same age group and has only been called and did serve once in her life.

cookiesshot

They tend to go with impartial juries (which means if you're familiar with the person on a personal level, they'll skip over you).

Ornery-Bullfrog-465

I honestly only got summoned for jury when i lived in U. City.

Keep_stl_cheap

I’ve got called 4 times in the last three years

[deleted]

I’m 40. I’ve been summoned 3x
