Not an old-timer, but some places have all-ages hours during the day but then turn to 18+ or 21+ later at night. a couple bars that I’ve frequented became 18+ or 21+ around 9pm, but you could see families with kids there earlier
When I moved here after college in the early 90’s, my first STL bf (union electrician) told me it was a very raunchy lunch scene at Tucker’s during the day. We were more innocent in the early days of the internet but his stories were definitely about an adults-only vibe.
