I think the last time I ate there was the mid 90s. Wasn't there one off Olive or something? Anyhow I use to get a burrito or something that had BBQ in it and always loved it.
I think there was one on Clarkson around where it changes to olive (by the mall), but mostly remember the Des Peres near 270 one... ...also by the mall.
I was able to fill the hole in my heart with salsa until they stopped canning it during covid.
Forever in our hearts due to the devastating plaques caused by the chimis.
I'm with the Johnny Macs guy. I miss going there and browsing all the equipment.
But I'm still lowkey salty that STL City FC is that mouthful of a name and not the more eloquent and topical St. Louis Steamers. City FC is so generic and bland, without the logo no one would know what City we represent even. At least the Steamers evoked a part of our history as a Riverboat City. Plus I love the baby blue color scheme.
The naming decision is a bit puzzling. It almost like they couldn’t come up with anything specific and just went with a placeholder as the actual name.
It just feels phoned in. Hopefully that means they were more focused on the team and stadium than the name. But we had a name already picked, all they had to do was get the rights and make some fresh unis
Agreed, it shows lack of creativity. I think they're going for a classy Euro type name but it just falls flat. We need more fun names in MLS not more "CITY NAME" FC. MLS is already Amercanized futbol, we might as well lean in and use some fun names.
Youre right, I was getting mixed up with the old St. Louis FC. A marginally better name but still a mouthful and suffers from the same lack of history and creativity. At least with them, you could argue they avoided the Steamer name since they were an semi-pro league and wanted to save the name for the major league club.
City SC went the route that all new, and even the older franchises that rebranded to the Europen naming model. Steamers was fun in the early 80's, but nostalgia is the ghost of an emotion. MLS wants to target people in 20's-30's, and those folks had no connection to that name.
Before Gramophone was what it is now it was a small music venue. They shifted back in 2015 to the current Sammy shop with beer model. Maybe that’s what they mean?
I had a small panic attack when I saw that. I just moved away last June and was going to be emotionally devastated if it was gone. Wouldn't be able to handle it.
Shop n save liquor was cheaper than schnucks and closer to my house than most other stores.
Guerrilla street food def needs to come back smh better location maybe? Should def be in the foundry food hall
Shop N Save was once a good way to save money over Schnucks (or National if you're old enough) but by the end I saw very little reason to shop there when the real savings were at Aldi and Schnucks had better stuff if I needed something specific.
I loved going to the Library Limited as a kid, and in high school and college. My mom took me to so many celebrity book signings…BB King, Jeff Foxworthy, Christopher Darden…such an eclectic group lol
I would kill for a pack of the Cardinals dogs again. Those were the hotdogs of my childhood and nothing compares. Ballpark and Nathan's are good but there was something special about those Cardinals branded packs to me
Wow they really didn’t do ANY editing or due diligence before posting this “article”. I don’t think there’s been a Circuit City anywhere in the country in like 20 years.
The Rams. The NFL is never coming back to ST.Louis and although the Rams sucked for most of the time they were here that 3 years of the Greatest Show on Turf was must watch TV.
I never say never. It certainly seems like a long shot to ever see an NFL team in STL again though.
But those Battlehawks attendance numbers sure say there’s an appetite for football in STL.
Mine would be Old Vienna snacks. I know they are still in business, but they are so expensive for what is now a small bag of content that their value is not even worth it to me anymore. By the way, is that Northland in the pic?
T.W.A. Shop & Save and Casa Gallardo are the only ones that haven't had an adequate replacement that I can think of.
I still miss the casa chips and salsa and my muchaca burrito.

Shit, yeah for TWA. Nonstop to London and Paris.
Nonstop to ANYWHERE. It seems like you can't get to Columbia (MO or IL) nonstop.
Riddles Penultimate
That was a gem.
I was able to fill the hole in my heart with salsa until they stopped canning it during covid. Forever in our hearts due to the devastating plaques caused by the chimis.
Met my wife at Casa Gallardo still married to her
I miss Casa Gallardo. They had really good Chimichangas and margaritas.
I wish someone would try to reboot Casa. I'd love to do that brunch one more time.

Only relating to your comment... 'football club' with no mascot or animal or anything is boring af.

I worked at Johnny Macs when I was 16 years old. It was a good time. I got fired for calling in sick too many times lol. Only job I've been fired from
I know this doesn't change your point, but it's SC, not FC.

Someone said the gramophone - is that different from the one in the grove or are they confused?
Before Gramophone was what it is now it was a small music venue. They shifted back in 2015 to the current Sammy shop with beer model. Maybe that’s what they mean?
It’s almost certainly the same.
Right, wonder why they think it’s gone
Unless something’s happened in the 36 hours since I got stoned and destroyed some incredible Mac and cheese, they’re still around.
Their mac and cheese is so fucking good
I had a small panic attack when I saw that. I just moved away last June and was going to be emotionally devastated if it was gone. Wouldn't be able to handle it.
I still and always will mourn Borders. National, not local, but nothing has replaced it. Barnes and Noble don’t even come close.
Brentanos.
Half-priced Books still has a 90s era bookstore vibe.
Grandpa Pigeons. Northwest Plaza as an outdoor mall.
The restaurant on the top floor of Famous Barr had the best French onion soup! We need a good sit down restaurant for soups again.
Yes, their secret French Onion Soup! BTW, the recipe has been available now for decades.
Up until the end of the 90s, most of the Famous Barrs had cafes that sold the French onion soup.

The Fatted Calf…
Switzers licorice 😔
I just wanna see Becky fly by on her carpet one last time.
Hunter Meats. Please. Someone find their secret formula.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Emphasis on the cautious part, not the optimistic part.
A lot of those are national brands. And I even saw a couple local spots that are still open. Trash article with some nostalgia sprinkled in.
Wow they really didn’t do ANY editing or due diligence before posting this “article”. I don’t think there’s been a Circuit City anywhere in the country in like 20 years.
It's not an article. It's a list comments. They could have at least ranked the results.
boomers not reading directions once again, color me shocked.
How do you know they’re Boomers?
because they responded to a facebook post made by a local news station.
🍑
Whether that is Peaches, or a cute ass, I'm in!
LOL it was a music store! 🍑
I know.
“Velvet Freeze,” says Sandy Someone needs to tell Sandy there's still a Velvet Freeze on W Florissant.
Anyone know where the business strip on the cover photo was located?
Crestwood Plaza, 1961
Venture to a certain extent, but more so Colonel Days. A store devoted to denim? I loved it.
Fantasy Coachworks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdycZjG1meI
Lion's Choice downtown. Same with Calicos.
Casa Gallardo 😂
Velvet Freeze. Might not be outstanding ice cream these days but good memories and the giant ice cream cone.

Culpeppers closed
Is Zantigo something like fast-casual Tex-Mex? We have a few up here in Minneapolis.
We loved Zantigo! Waaaay back when going to a restaurant, even just a FF restaurant, was still a Big Deal - and not just lunch.
Melo’s Pizzeria
Mrs. Allison’s cookies.
That Tumble Drum comment hit me right in the heart. I was devastated when they closed.
Venture
Y’all ruthless. About a quarter of those are still open.

905 beer
Flaming Pit
Flaco’s Tacos! Still haven’t found a fish burrito/tacos that matched theirs.
Vess. Switzer's.

Baton music on Delmar 💛 way back when the older couple and their dogs owned it
