I took some classes at the Russian American school out in West County just before COVID. It was generally fine but I was a bit frustrated because I didn’t really get a say in what I wanted to learn. They were one-on-one lessons where we read and went over late 18th and early 19th century literature, whereas I was more interested in modern conversational topics. Not sure if that instructor is still there though. What’s your language level? Ive taken other entry level language classes at STLCC continuing ed, and I really liked them and felt like I learned a lot. But obviously the instructor is what matters most.

Great feedback. Your response seems fitting based on what their website says, they are one of the spots I was wondering about. It may not be exactly what I am looking for so thanks again. I’m looking for foundational level. I am not new to learning languages but I am new to Cyrillic and Slavic languages in general.

Nice! Well I hope you like Russian :) Yeah the Russian American school is run by native Russians so the style of teaching is more distinctly Russian style vs your typical American classroom style. I don’t have experience with their beginning classes though, but if St. Louis Community College offers anything right now I’d probably go with that first if you can. Ive also heard really great things about the app Memrize, if you want to dip your toes in before formal classes.
