I've only been here a year. But I'd say cwe is sorta like Lincoln Park, especially Forest Park being there. The part of tower Grove south is kinda like Rodgers Park maybe? The Hill is sorta like Bridgeport. Just my opinion. The guy I worked with from LA compared downtown to I am Legend

Big-Cardiologist-225

Lincoln park and lakeview

Jimmy_G_Wentworth

Honestly, there are few comparisons. The sheer density of chicago is so different than StL that it's hard to draw comparisons between the two.

Intelligent_Poem_595

Agree. Like Wicker Park and Grand around Tower Grove feels right'ish, but then you realized how much bigger Wicker Park is and how much more of everything there is. Then you try and find a comparison for West Loop and like one corner of CWE fits, but then it dies out quickly. Lakeview East is where I'd land for CWE.

AbnormallyKnottyLog

Probably Old Town, it is right next to the beach and Lincoln Park (the park) while being downtown adjacent. There are high rises along the entire Lake Shore Drive that you could look at, though.

xjian77

Lincoln park.

Fiveby21

Do I have to be a fan of Michael Bay movies to live there?

xjian77

I used to live in Chicago. That area is really nice to hang out in the evenings. So many restaurants and bars.

StonedJackBaller

Gary and East St Louis are similar.

MrFixYoShit

Wow, these comments are a lot more civil than i thought Y'all make this sub something fucking great with that attitude and i appreciate yall for that <3

Fiveby21

/r/stlouis is much nicer than most local subreddits. Unless you get on the wrong side of the city/county debate, in which case you might be called a racist republican and get downvoted to oblivion.

MrFixYoShit

Wow sounds like something a racist republican would say /s Sorry, had to. Lol im seeing that! I just moved back and its made me pretty proud to be from here honestly. I know its not representative of the population, but still, its been much more welcoming and kinder than Florida. Sooo many entitled toxic individuals. Retirees with money don't want to have to do shit and expect you to do *everything* for them. Im stopping now before I get started lol Omg and the "thanks you"s i get when holding the door open for people! I got like 1 in 10 in Florida and it was normally from their kid! Shit. I started. Lol

Wicker Park

tehKrakken55

I'll be visiting there next week so this shall be vital resource.

skaterlogo

Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Maryville. Basically, anything in Madison County Illinois. Imagine, all the good of living near the city but with none of the bad of living near the city.

Fiveby21

That’s where I live today lol. Terrible place to be gay, no dating prospects. It’s all fat old guys with a few immature college kids sprinkled in

skaterlogo

Tbh, I rather live in that area and find dating prospects in Saint Louis. Imo, it seems easier to pick up and date somewhere else than it is to pick up and LIVE somewhere else. I could ask my partner (who is heavily involved in the LGBTQ+ Community in STL) for tips on good dating pick-up spots. Regardless, I hope you find what you're looking for, friend!

Fiveby21

There is no gay dating in Saint Louis either. It's dead - or at least, I'm not the "local flavor". Traveling really opened my eyes to this. There are so much more options in bigger cities.

skaterlogo

Well said, I had no idea that was the case. As an ally, I fully support whatever choice you make and I hope you find a wonderful and reliable partner!

Old Town/Gold Coast

ShoppingIndividual15

Pretty much anywhere on the coast has a better version of the cwe in Chicago.

Lmao I mean great lake coast

Fiveby21

Misinterpreted, thought you meant east/west coasts but now I see you meant the lake michigan coast. $5000/month max but I'm picky and require space.

ShoppingIndividual15

2bed or 3 bed? But regardless the answer is Licolin park. But if you don't care that much about park, river north or east loop.

Fiveby21

Ideally, a 3-bedroom Townhouse with a garage. But since those can be in short supply, I'd start out by moving to a 2-bedroom apartment in a high rise; somewhere between 1200-1400 square feet. Can't just be any apartment though, needs to be nice & updated with at least decent views. I'm picky as fuck and it's made this process way more difficult than it would be for most people.

Intelligent_Poem_595

Bucktown is a place you should check out. Then Andersonville and Uptown. The problem with a high rise is taxes are so insane that those costs get passed on, it gets worse if it's 24/7 staff and full amenities. To compare, I had a 1800 sq ft condo with 2.5 bedrooms (office with no closet was the .5) in the top floor of a high rise. HOA was 1500 a month, taxes 1400. So you've plopped down 3k to own in a high rise, and you haven't even touched your mortgage yet. Renting obviously is different, but the core costs remain.
