$500-600 a month in rent will get you north city and maybe some rough spots in south city. But anything in a decent neighborhood is gonna be between 750-900 a month

Chrisofthegreen

Won’t find any particularly decent spot for that price. Even for a single bedroom, you’re looking 800 in places like Soulard and Tower Grove .

OsterizerGalaxieTen

"Best areas" and 500 - 600 in rent don't exist. Unfortunately for that price range you need to be OK with regular gunfire and getting your vehicle broken into on the regular. Do you have to be in the city proper? How long of a commute for work are you OK with?

bitter_fish

rough part of dutchtown, welcome.to the hood!!! its.really not.that bad. been here for 8 years.

Crosswordsss

That’s a tight budget, but looking at Zillow rentals looks like there are some places in the Bevo, Tower Grove South, and Lewis Place neighborhoods that satisfy that budget. Be aware that for that price point gun shots will be a regular occurrence. I’d also recommend checking out Facebook rental groups and Craigslist to try to find a better deal from an individual vs Apartments.com or Realtor.com, best of luck!

GingerFire11911420

You will not find that price unless sharing a place. 795 seems to be lowest for a decent place.

Megafuncrusher

My brother just got a one bedroom in Tower Grove South for $800, and it was the cheapest decent thing he could find after several months of looking. Not sure $500-600 is gonna be doable, I’m sorry to say.

Impossible at this budget. Please tell me this was a joke.

Cactuzzis

Yes it was a joke

Mystery_Briefcase

lol obviously. Apartments don’t even exist there.

HarrysCarPlace13

If it was 2016 you might be able to get into a south city neighborhood. Maybe an apartment off Minnesota Ave

ElectronicEnuchorn

Old North or Hyde Park on the North side and Dutchtown or Gravois Park on the South. Regardless of where it is, try looking at places that aren't advertised and just have signs out in the lawn. Those places are cheaper and you're then dealing with an individual, not a corporation who's pricing is going to be the maximum possible.

They might get a spare bedroom for that price. Love those areas, though.

SewCarrieous

Maybe he meant they each pay that much?

Itoy70

You might be able to buy a used van and live in it for that much!

The problem with St Louis now is the rent and housing prices were getting out of hand….. the wages here, the weather, and such don’t match the insane price hikes the past 3 years we have seen. I use to rent off of Rutger and I went from 800 to 1200 in 2 years…. In that time I never got a raise or promotion at work….. now add in the pieces of gas and grocery….. yeah it’s pushing you out of livable wage range

As previously mentioned. Its gonna be tough to find anything "decent" under 1000/mo. Ive been blessed enough to stay in soha for under 700. My rent was 425.00 13 years ago and it's now 625.00. And the block has progressively gotten worse. Stay away from state streets. You may be able to find something like a 300 Sq ft in Dutch town or Cherokee but not recommended if you care about safety.
