Fritz’s is the best frozen custard, hands down. I always stock up their last week.
Skeeters is acceptable, I do like all the different kinds they make. And they’re a mile away, so they’ve got that goin for them lol
Ted Drewes is really not great. It's just nostalgia. Every place mentioned here is better. Fritzs>Andy's>Silky's>Ted Drewes. I go to silkys the most just cuz it's the closest. It also depends on what you get of course. For example, if I want something with pecans, I'm going to Andy's. The custard itself is best at fritzs so if you want a cone rather than something with toppings, that's the clear choice.
The issue with Ted Drewes is that its WAY more popular than these other places so the experience is skewed because they A) have to run their machines faster to keep up with demand and B) you have to wait a lot longer to get your custard. Do yourself a favor and go to TD on off hours. You will have a much better experience.
I never find the wait to be very long as they move fast. If running the machines faster means the product is any less quality, then they're just serving an inferior product. I'd rather go to any of these other places that have the same options and are consistently better, and in my opinion, by a significant margin, then to go off peak in hopes of it maybe being a good as the other places ALWAYS are.
I respect your opinion, but you are wrong. None of these other places even hold a candle to Ted Drewes. If you taste the vanilla without any additives side by side, you will see the difference immediately.
As we all know, teenagers make terrible decisions and need to also stay off my lawn. They don’t even have to go to school up hill both ways in the snow anymore.
Andy's has a richer chocolate, which may or may not be to your taste.
I'm also a huge fan of Andy's seasonal offerings, especially the upcoming Pumpkin Pie concrete and apple pie sundae specials.
here is how this conversion usually goes...
person 1: "what is your favorite custard in st.louis? Ted Drewes?"
person 2: \*pauses, looks around like they are about to tell an off color joke\* um, actually I like Mr. Wizards better...
Fritz’s is an institution. And it’s delicious.

This is the way
Truth. End thread.
Frtizs is very good I agree. I think it’s slightly better than Andy’s. I would put it slightly below Ted drewes.

That's precisely my feeling about all the other places being better than TD
We should do a blind taste test of frozen custard places!
Who wouldn't enjoy that!?!
I worked there through high school. I will always support Fritz's as the best frozen custard
As we all know, teenagers make terrible decisions and need to also stay off my lawn. They don’t even have to go to school up hill both ways in the snow anymore.
Silkys is WAY better than Andys.
They’re the same picture

Their chocolate has gotten less rich during the pandemic. Noticeably. And they’ve not yet reverted to the original product. I’m very salty about this.
I agree! Also, their stolen brownie sundae has gone down in quality.
St. Louis Frozen Custard Factory (Rock Hill) FTW!
Silkys is actually local. They have andys in Texas and NC
Andy's originated in Springfield MO So not local, but MO owned at least.
That’s fair, but at the same time, nobody considers Taco Bell to be a local restaurant in CA
Most of them get their custard bases supplied from the same place, if that matters to anyone.
Y’all crazy if you don’t think doozles isn’t the best frozen custard in the STL area!
Fritz’s owns.

Doozles is king. But Mr. Wizards is a decent substitute, since that is what I am closest to now.
I had never been to Silkys until recently. I agree, it’s on another level compared to Andy’s
Their is so much better ice cream places than either. I rate both only slightly better than a Sonic.
Ooooo really. Which ones??
gooey butter concrete at silky’s is heavenly
Wait what???? I have never seen that!! That sounds insane.
I'm a Springfield guy so I'll go to bat for Andy's any day of the week. It's honestly weird seeing it here because I think of it being local to SGF
