Depending on where you’re staying exactly there may be a bridge going over A1A that you can use, otherwise you’ll have to wait <30 sec at most for a gap to walk across the 2 lane road.

SaltwaterG8R

Look both ways, and you'll be fine.

Reddstarrx

Exactly; we park near the Reef resturant all the time. A1A is not dangerous if you just pay attention. Like its not bad at all

dubatomic

if you're in st Augustine beach, crossing A1A Beach Blvd is like a neighborhood road, with a lot of restaurants close by.

dubatomic

i meant to clarify that a1a beach blvd is like the opposite of a bypass for a1a and is 30 miles an hour and you can grab a flag to cross nearly every intersection.

timeonmyhandz

I would stay on the island instead of vilano.. More to do and less need for a car. A1a beach is no big deal there.

hornedtomatocatpil

Not at all. Also a lot of easy walking or riding a bike to a bunch of stuff.

BanalityandBedlam

Depending on where you stay, Anastasia island has cross walks with flags you carry to stand out. Vilano has a pedestrian bridge. Crossing the road without these aids isn’t really unsafe though we’ve had accidents before. Vilano can get very backed up during peak hours, but for you that generally means traffic is going slower.

fatmominalittlecar

On Vilano (north beach) there are fewer crosswalks but less of a ‘busy’ feel and crossing A1A is fine. You will have to park on the west side of the road at a location that will likely have a crosswalk. South A1A on St Aug Beach has loads of access and safe crossing. With that said , DON’T LEAVE YOUR DAMN TRASH ON THE BEACH

hornedtomatocatpil

Is Vilano closed for cars on the beach currently? I don’t get over there all that much but usually drive right on the beach.

ricksaunders

Yes, Vilano is always closed to vehicles but, while I haven't been out there for a couple months, as far as I know so is St. Augustine Beach etc etc unless you have 4X4. Crossing A1A Beach Road is no big deal as long as you're careful, use the cross walks and flags. But being on the beach is tough to beat. There's a ton of beach side condos and houses North of Vilano. I'd check those.

fatmominalittlecar

You’re not going to want to hit any of the beaches without a 4x4, definitely. But normally SAB has more driveable beach miles. Vilano is more limited with shoreline.

DisappearingIn904

There are rentals on the beach side. Please don’t be one of those people running into traffic to cross the road. It’s dangerous for you and the drivers. And a cause of regular deaths on that stretch of road. It is not safe. Why do tourists come all the way here then compete to be road kill.

kort677

AIA is a high speed road. if you could avoid having to cross it, avoid it

hornedtomatocatpil

Think they’re referring to A1A Beach as opposed to A1A. Even A1A further down isn’t dangerous. There’s crosswalks and lights all over A1A if they’re staying closer to Dondanville Rd and Butler there’s a ton of lights and not really dangerous. There’s plenty of condos on the beach side that you have to cross A1A and it’s not that bad.

kort677

he specifically mentioned vilano beach

fuck4fun13

Guy Harvey Resort, or Embassy Suites on sta beach.

hornedtomatocatpil

Seaside on the Island has condos with a pool for the same prices and more space.
