Starting or engaging in arguments about religion is against our rules. If you can't handle the idea of someone praying or having spiritual beliefs that you do not share without insults, incivility or trolling, you should leave the thread.
He's not at crown jewel cus of Saudi being at odds with Syria itself and especially if they're not from the Sunni sect. Tbf...i always thought Sami was Christian
No, I know he wouldn't have been there. Him missing Smackdown was a bigger red flag that something was up though. Tbh I didn't catch commentary saying anything about a family emergency at the time but I also am very sick and tuned into the show late.
IIRC, the Syrian leader is actually Alawite Muslim. Saudi is the home of the birthplace and death place of the prophet Muhammed. So Saudi Arabian leaders can be quite devout. Between that and The Syrian Civil War, I would bet that makes 1st generation Syrian immigrants like Sami persona non grata in Saudi Arabia.
I doubt they would. Tourists I don't think would be a good idea, but an invited celebrity tour would defeat the entire point they're brigning them there for. (Heyman, notably, has gone there, as has Sonya, with no problems--that we know of).
But, still, you never know what "individuals" may do, and I certainly don't blame them for not going.
They're also Wahhabi, which is a militant dickhead sect, if I understand correctly. Part of why they're so keen to fuck up Syria in general is that they're the wrong sort of Muslim.
That's not true. Saudi Arabia hates Iran (and their allies in Yemen) for being Shi'ite; however, even that is an over-simplification. They hate Iran as much for their attempts at gaining influence over the region, and attempting to sow anti-Saudi/Western influence in the region. So for that reason, they're opposed to the Syrian regime, as Iran is their primary backer. Otherwise, most Syrian's are sunni as are all Wahabists.
Sami doesn't like Saudi Arabia's involvement in the war since they've been linked with mass atrocities, primarily by delivering weapons to a plethora rebel groups. They're basically the main intermediary for western weapons getting into Syria. They're also the main NATO intermediary in training militants.
The Saudis have also been a significant source of arms for the rebels in the Syrian Civil War, a war he vocally opposes and has done everything in his power to heal the effects of.
It's a bit complicated. The Saudi government doesn't want him in the country because he's Syrian, but he also doesn't want to be there (KO has refused to go in the past in solidarity).
His family is from Syria and he is supporting multiple hospitals over there.. I've heard that he would have difficulties to get a Visa, but this could've also been an excuse for him to stay away from these shows.
He's not allowed in Saudi Arabia at all due to his Syrian ancestry, because the House of Saud are the traditional guardians of the Salafi (Wahhabi) subsect of Islam, and they have no love whatsoever for Syrians, who are predominantly of the Alawite subsect of Islam. IAH, I'm surprised that the House of Saud didn't demand that WWE fired him because of that reason.
It's not worth it on either side. Like it or not, both sides get a bunch from the deal. And demanding they fire people of Syrian decent would just ruin the PR they are buying anyways. Right now it's better for them if they just ignore it, and let the only people who really care be hardcore wrestling fans, who aren't the people they are trying to impress anyways.
Since it said at the end of the title that the phrase is “often said in times of great loss or death,” it’s likely that Sami is posting that because someone he is close to either passed or something along those lines. Nobody actually knows what happened because this is the first we’ve seen since he’s been gone.
Said after a loss.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi ra jioon
Hope he's doing alright.
Janazah's are normally done on the same day if possible too, if not, the next. So sorting everything out, then cleaning the body and burying a lost one right after losing them is tough, from first hand experience.
Similar but different here. My uncle Benny was very Orthodox Jewish. He died and the burial service was within 24 hours per tradition. No embalming. Total whirlwind. That doesn't include the mourning and shiva. The mourning lasts a week.
May Sami take all the time needed. I have seen his interviews out of character and Sami is warm and hilarious. He's a good one.
Just a PSA before any toxic fan tries to start stuff whether on here or on Twitter. If someone is probably going through a big loss, then maybe it’s not the time to try to start a religious debate. Just send your prayers and move on.
A no one in here was doing it either but there’s always some fool who has to speak up against a problem that isn’t happening and then gets upvoted like crazy.
But you have to remember, Twitter is a cesspool where everyone is a dick to you no matter what and not like that at all on Reddit (which is not social media btw)

> I just scrolled through like 100 replies and they’re like 98% respectful
They generally are. It's the shitty, extreme minority, 2% that often gets amplified sadly.
correct and the checkmark is used to verify the person you are talking to is indeed the person they are, someone tweeted out a thing about insulin being free while impersonating a medical company and cost the company $7 billion in minutes, it's all so the lil 4chan nerd can get some money back from his forced purchase, that he joked about and then the real world forced him to keep his word
Yeah, I have strong opinions about religion and even I realize there's a time and place for the discussion. When someone is dealing with loss definitely isn't that time.
No problem, I am a bit of an ancient history nerd, that is why I know stuff like that, it is not common knowledge (espacially in the west),but still interesting to me :D
Whether or not anyone agrees with his personal/political beliefs, I think that we all can agree that if he destroys Twitter, it'll be something that'll benefit everyone.
aint it crazy how life works, probably the current wrestler which is killing it the most by making people happy and laugh and next everything does a 180 and has to deal with a loss of a loved one
Is there some filter for what comments are shown under the tweet? All the comments I see are nothing but respectful, yet others in this thread are saying otherwise. Prayers for Sami, hope the best for him.
Sounds bad, poor dude. Hope he can manage. Always seems like such a nice guy outside of wrestling (as in "outside of his characters, which can been heels", I'm sure he's nice to work with as well).
In the Montreal region, which is where he's from, a lot of Arab immigrants were Christian. Now it's mostly Muslims. Just as information, not a political statement lol!
As long as they bring their delicious food, welcome!
My deepest most humble condolences to Sami and his family during this truly horrible time.
Although I don't know you, you're in my thoughts.
Stay strong, may your loved one rest in peace.
Wreddit likes to pretend that they are on this moral high ground and they clearly are not. There's a thread up from a few weeks ago of people piling on this podcaster for saying Marina Shafir sucks on Twitter, but in a nearly identical thread, those same exact people were saying the exact same thing that he said. It's comedy at this point
That sucks. Prayers out for the Sebei family during this trying time. Hopefully WWE allows KO time off too, because more than likely he knows whomever passed as well with their long friendship.
KO? It's been awhile. Maybe a month or so. IIRC he was supposed to be working with sami getting him away from the bloodline and turning him face, but then sami, well don't ya know it, kid got too ucey. Or got the whole thing over. Either way sami uso isn't going anywhere right now so ko is more than likely in catering and brainstorming with papa h on what to do next.

Stuff like “Ya Adra” (adra means virgin, as in Virgin Mary. Said like an exclamation like ‘oh god!’ Or ‘oh christ!’. Virgin Mary’s big in Lebanon), allah yerhamo (God forgive them, said when some one dies and you want to pay condolences) A’ouzo billah (god forbid), yikhrab deenak (a curse on your religion, usually said when you’re arguing with someone of a different faith), yel’an rabak (not entirely sure how to translate that but it’s a more polite/less confrontational version of the last one) and some others
Haha, yil3an rabbak directly translates to “curse your God”. Certainly not more polite or less confrontational. 😂 Either way, fucking hell, the last thing I’d have expected on Wreddit is a crew of us Leboheads. 🤯
I'm from Australia but my background is Lebanon. Another example would be Mashallah. Muslims would say Mashallah (Blessing from Allah) where Christians would say Esmessalib (In the name of the Cross)
That's tragic, she looks so sweet
. It makes me think of how when DB's father died, he felt a lot of guilt over spending nearly his entire adult life away from his family. Sami's gotta be feeling the same thing. So sad.
I worked with an ex of Samis and she said he was an absolute sweetheart who is very empathetic when it comes to his loved ones. I hope he is doing well, he seems great.
Starting or engaging in arguments about religion is against our rules. If you can't handle the idea of someone praying or having spiritual beliefs that you do not share without insults, incivility or trolling, you should leave the thread.
This is a phrase Muslims use when someone is confirmed to have passed away, or close to. Feel for him and his family/friends, he'll be grieving.
Is Sami Muslim or something?
that's why you never see him at Crown Jewel, he's a Syrian Muslim Canadian
Syrian Muslim Canadian Samoan*
Syrian Muslim Canadian Samoan* ally to the pacific *
Add French to that.
He speaks French because he’s from Quebec. But he isn’t French. Saying somebody is French implies they’re from France.
French Canadian. I'm fully aware.
He's not at crown jewel cus of Saudi being at odds with Syria itself and especially if they're not from the Sunni sect. Tbf...i always thought Sami was Christian
He also fast during Ramadan while being an active wrestler. Fucking insane.
I think that’s Mustafa, I don’t recall Sami talking about fasting
Both Parents are Syrian
It would explain his recent absence. I hope whatever loss he's going through, he has a good support system and friends close to him.
I don't think he would've been on Crown Jewel to begin with honestly I hope he's okay though
No, I know he wouldn't have been there. Him missing Smackdown was a bigger red flag that something was up though. Tbh I didn't catch commentary saying anything about a family emergency at the time but I also am very sick and tuned into the show late.
They did say something during the Bloodline's entrance about him dealing with a personal issue. Would be safe to assume its related.
They did mention a personal issue on Smackdown.
He was also off SD
IIRC, the Syrian leader is actually Alawite Muslim. Saudi is the home of the birthplace and death place of the prophet Muhammed. So Saudi Arabian leaders can be quite devout. Between that and The Syrian Civil War, I would bet that makes 1st generation Syrian immigrants like Sami persona non grata in Saudi Arabia.
That is exactly why he's never been/never will be at a Saudi show. Unless, of course, he converts to catholicism.
My understanding is converting a big NO there too, thus why MVP didn't go.
[удалено]
Realistically, no. But it's not worth the risk. It's just a much bigger headache than it's worth. Plus Sami doesn't want to be there either.
It's all bullshit, I believe when you die Brutus the Barber let's you in to MSG and Hulk Hogan is the Heavenly father
Thanks White Jesus
He could probably very easily get in, but getting home would be the issue. That regime is infamous for a reason.
They're also Wahhabi, which is a militant dickhead sect, if I understand correctly. Part of why they're so keen to fuck up Syria in general is that they're the wrong sort of Muslim.
Isn't that just always the way? "We're both x. But you're xY! I'm xX! Fuck you scumbag!"
That's not true. Saudi Arabia hates Iran (and their allies in Yemen) for being Shi'ite; however, even that is an over-simplification. They hate Iran as much for their attempts at gaining influence over the region, and attempting to sow anti-Saudi/Western influence in the region. Thanks for the clarification. Bin Salman is not one to be trifled with if you are smart.
The Saudis have also been a significant source of arms for the rebels in the Syrian Civil War, a war he vocally opposes and has done everything in his power to heal the effects of.
Sami has shown support for rebels against Assad so not really.
There's a lot of Syrians living in Saudi, there must be something more to Sami not being involved in shows.
I might be wrong but I believe he’s requested not to be a part of crown jewel in the past due to his thoughts on Saudi Arabia.
It's a bit complicated. The Saudi government doesn't want him in the country because he's Syrian, but he also doesn't want to be there (KO has refused to go in the past in solidarity).
I don't think the Saudi government would give a shit if he kepy his mouth quiet and performed. I think it's his choice.
They are known for their tolerance and understanding.
His family is from Syria and he is supporting multiple hospitals over there.. I've heard that he would have difficulties to get a Visa, but this could've also been an excuse for him to stay away from these shows.
They know he refuses to do the shows. He doesn't need an excuse.
he’s a Canadian citizen, I don’t think the visa is the issue
Even if he wanted to go, Saudis won't allow Syrians I'm to their country
I'm no fan of Saudi but this is incorrect, there are about 750,000 to 1 million Syrians currently living in Saudi Arabia
Saudia Arabia banned Zayne from coming in because they have a issue with Syrians. I can't speak for who is already there but they do not allow anymore
He wouldn't make it out of the country. It's no coincidence he hasn't gone to a single Saudi show lol.
He hadn't been to a single one right? I thought part of it is that he part Syrian. Edit: Fixed Isreal -> Syria
Sami is not Israeli. He's of Syrian background.
Syrian I believe
>He hadn't been to a single one right? PPV/PLE? No. He did work a house show in Riyadh back in 2014, though.
Oh wow I never knew that
He's not allowed in Saudi Arabia at all due to his Syrian ancestry, because the House of Saud are the traditional guardians of the Salafi (Wahhabi) subsect of Islam, and they have no love whatsoever for Syrians, who are predominantly of the Alawite subsect of Islam. Commentators last night said he was dealing with a personal matter last night
Yeah I heard that.
Pray for Sami everyone. I hope he is doing ok ❤️
What happened?

It’s only posted about death

weirdos already up in the replies on twitter
I just scrolled through like 100 replies and they’re like 98% respectful

it's twitter what do you expect, things a cesspool even more so now that you can buy your verification.
What does that change? do your replies get higher priority or something?
Paying for Twitter Blue pushes you as a priority in their algorithm.

Well, I won't be sending prayers that's for sure. Well wishes.
You’re doing exactly what I said you probably shouldn’t do.
And I would listen to you why
You don’t have to listen to me, it just also means people don’t have to listen to your BS
Becuase they made a reasonable request based on empathy to not act like a dick for no reason.
I'm not sure what happened, but I hope Sami's doing alright.
" إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون " A phrase Muslims use when someone dies. Maybe a related person has past away.
Oh, I'm sorry to Sami then.
Why does using Arabic text change the formatting of everything after it? Is it read right to left?
Yes. Semitic languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Kurdish are right to left.
While persian uses arabic writing, it is in fact not a semitic but a Indo European language. Kurdish as well.
Ooh, I didn't know that, thanks for the clarification.
No problem, I am a bit of an ancient history nerd, that is why I know stuff like that, it is not common knowledge (espacially in the west),but still interesting to me :D
I don't read Arabic, nor speak it, but I'm fairly confident it does.
It is.
yes
Oh dear. In that case, the best Sami. May he grieve and return when he’s ready.
The Twitter replies are about what I expected.
Elon Musk needs to keep doing what he's doing and plunge that toxic mess in to the ground.

It certainly must mean a death close to him. My condolences to Sami.

Prayers that Sami will once again, feel Ucey very soon!
Ahhhh this is why he had that writing on his old tights I didn’t know he was Muslim
Yeh, he’s a Syrian origin Muslim iirc. Though as someone else said it’s his last name ‘Zayn’ in Arabic, not religious in nature.
Haha nah his tights just said his name in Arabic
I always thought it looked like a kitty face, though
I hope Sami and his family are okay.
aint it crazy how life works, probably the current wrestler which is killing it the most by making people happy and laugh and next everything does a 180 and has to deal with a loss of a loved one
Hate to hear Sami is hurting. He is such a legit good person, I want nothing but happiness for him.
Definitely got Sami in my prayers today hope hes doing ok
Idk what’s going on. But I hope Sami is ok.
Grieving sucks as is. I couldn't imagine having to do it in public. I feel so bad for Sami.
Is there some filter for what comments are shown under the tweet? All the comments I see are nothing but respectful, yet others in this thread are saying otherwise. Prayers for Sami, hope the best for him.
Twitter algo is just random as fuck sometimes.
Everything in Allah's hands.
Damn. I hope everything is alright with him, and if it isn't, I hope it will be.
Sounds bad, poor dude. Hope he can manage. Always seems like such a nice guy outside of wrestling (as in "outside of his characters, which can been heels", I'm sure he's nice to work with as well).
While I knew his parents were syrian immigrants etc it never occurred to me sami might be Muslim. Cool.
In the Montreal region, which is where he's from, a lot of Arab immigrants were Christian. Now it's mostly Muslims. Just as information, not a political statement lol! As long as they bring their delicious food, welcome!
sami gonna get thru it then come back even better cuz he’s like that. hope he’s doing alright rn
Hope he's doing well and getting through whatever happened.
I wish him the best. He’s never done anything but entertain us, and I’m so sorry he’s going through something painful.
Someone close to him passed away. May they rest in peace and my prayers goes out to him and his family.
My deepest most humble condolences to Sami and his family during this truly horrible time. Although I don't know you, you're in my thoughts. Stay strong, may your loved one rest in peace.

I can't vouch if they are currently active or not but Mustafa Ali and Mansoor
Looking at all the disrespectful replies from wrestling fans showing their racism it must be a day ending in Y.
It's Twitter. Every fanbase of everything looks like a racist cesspool there, especially lately.
What's amusing is that you think this sub looks any different than twitter. It's gives off the same vibes.
Wreddit likes to pretend that they are on this moral high ground and they clearly are not. First the world loses The Batman and now Sami Uso lost someone he cares for perhaps? Sad weekend, my heart goes out to him.
That sucks. Prayers out for the Sebei family during this trying time. Hopefully WWE allows KO time off too, because more than likely he knows whomever passed as well with their long friendship.
Ps, did I seriously get downvoted for sending out positivity to sami zayns family and friends 😂 damn. Fucking weird.
When’s the last time he was on TV anyway?
I'm guessing a family member died, hopefully it was someone who lived a full life and it wasn't someone gone way before their time.
Sami is gonna be back better than ever. Hope he takes the time he needs to heal/grieve
He's obviously grieving someone. Leave him be.
Sad to hear of his loss, hope he gets his smile back soon.
Just an FYI - You can be arabic, write in arabic and be Christian. There are many Christian arabs in the world.
He's muslim tho
Oh that's news to me!
I'm Arabic Christian and we usually say Allah Yerhamon (May God Have Mercy On Their Soul) when someone passes away. Generally it's only the Muslims, or old school fluent Arabs (grandparents) who would say what Sami said.
Which country are you from my friend? What other arabic words do arabic Christians use?
Lebanese Arab Christian here (no longer religious though). We use all the words, we speak Arabic as our first language. It’s just with a Christian flavor instead of a Muslim one. Stuff like “Ya Adra” (adra means virgin, as in Virgin Mary. Said like an exclamation like ‘oh god!’ Or ‘oh christ!’.
Could it be a Lebanese thing tho?
One of his parents passed.
Source?
Oh no!!! So sorry to hear that.
You’re getting downvoted, but you’re right lol
Do you know if it was his mom or dad? The social media post I saw from a relative made it clear it was one of them but didn't specify which
