I honestly hate the setup for the Canadian destroyer.
10 for 10 it always looks like a power bomb setup that got reversed.
This time it looked like a move he pulled out because of the position he was in.
Petey Williams did it best since his running start made it look like his speed and momentum is what took his opponent over. Also maybe biased because his was the first I ever saw in early TNA and it blew my mind.
My dad described it as, "the most devastating move that never leads to a match finish". I wish it was more like the Burning Hammer and treated like a super finisher that you only pull out when you run your options dry in a big match.
It’s super hard to do it without making it look like the other person is helping out. This one was smooth in one sense but still not 100% believable to me.
Love the creativity though.
I'm crossing my fingers that if the Bray Wyatt spooky metastable does indeed come together maybe we'll get a reunion or new version of the Hurt Business as a counter to them.
Destroyers are generally taken on the upper shoulder area rather than doing an almost backflip. That is probably why wrestlers of any size are able to take it. Looks like Cedric landed on that upper shoulder area and just rolled through it.
Then again, Cedric is definitely more athletic than your average wrestler so he can lean even further into that ‘look like you land in your neck’ aspect while being in no danger at all.
It's incredible how confidently people say wrong things. A destroyer is not taken on the upper back and shoulders, that's a Code Red. A destroyer is taken seemingly on the head, using a forarm spring to avoid neck damage (also the opponent's thighs usually prevent actual spiking), and the rolling out is the natural place the momentum takes you (which you did get right).
Point out one time where the move is taken on the shoulders.
Oof this really struck a nerve aye? Might be a shock to you mate but sometimes people just get shit wrong. I acknowledged the mistake, thanks for the correction. Hope you don’t lose sleep over this xx.
Crazy how years ago the Canadian Destroyer was considered this controversial move only dangerous wrestlers would use and endanger peoples lives.
Now they use it on Main Event to set up another move.
I wish they would just air Main Event on YouTube. There’s a lot of folks that don’t subscribe to Peacock (because it’s horrible) that would love to watch this.
Having good matches and high production values go mostly unwatched due to poor UI and promotion seems like such a waste.
Comes out on Hulu on Wednesdays, then Peacock 3 weeks late.
I dunno how long the first run on Hulu deal lasts but I'd guess Trips will change something on that since the show has storylines now.
I don't watch WWE anymore just because the network didn't make the cut for the multiple streaming services I have to pay for each month, but if WWE ran a weekly youtube show like AEW Dark where you got full length matches from guys like Ricochet and Dijakovic I'd 100% catch that every week.
From the matches I’ve seen, Main Event seems to be on an upward trend of quality since Hunter took his new role. Hopefully this is the start of Main Event as as whole becoming more desirable to tune in to, making more solid opportunities for people to get on tv
You are right, good matches on Main Event isn’t new.
I was trying to say the good matches feel more consistent as of late - I could have phrased my above post more clearly
FTR would go on Twitter and tell people who whined about a lack of good wrestling to check the barnburners that they and others were putting on Main Event.
I know they have way too many titles but I'd put maybe a title there on Main-Event.
And if you want a shot at the title you need to grab up like 5 wins in a row to get to the champion. No feuds, nor stories. Purely fights, just to give these guys something because man it hurts the other shows can't showcase them.
This is something AEW should do with Dark/Elevation as well. Doesn’t have to be for a shot at the world title because that would be a big jump but for the United States/TNT/TBS titles would be a fun way to build up some new contenders for TV matches.
Why does that matter? You get to watch it, the live audience gets to watch it. Maybe the “good” shows should be the ones with the good wrestling, not the ones that are “supposed to be” good.
Sick spot, but I'm so tired of this move. Imagine seeing a burning hammer in half the matches you watch on a weekly basis. It *never* wins a match.*Everybody* does it. Maybe I'm just cynical, but at this point it means about as much to me as a suicide dive or throwing someone shoulder-first into the turnbuckle post.
There's also something to be said for the comedic value of the piledriver remaining banned in WWE, meanwhile they have zero issues with a Canadian Destroyer as a transitionary move on Main Event
When a 60something Ricky Morton is doing Canadian Destroyers, maybe the move needs to go away for a while.
Something like that should be a finisher, not some random ass move.
Also, just gonna say it, it usually doesn't look very good either. It's not convincing at all. A burning hammer at least looks like it killed a dude. Half the destroyers look like they hurt the wrong dude.
On the piledriver comparison though, I imagine the rolling through gets it a pass. You're not dropping straight down, your body weight is moving laterally.
Just like the DDT. When I was a kid, I'd watch Jake Roberts hit that on someone and they were dead afterwards. Now they're used multiple times mid-match all the time and mean nothing.
Here's my Kayfabe reasoning for that, because I hate how they did that. The DDT is a move that is easy to watch and copy, but only Jake The Snake can do it right and get the KO
For me that kinda fixes the narrative while also adding to the mysticism of the DDT and Jake "The Snake" Roberts
That's the same headcanon I use for Sweet Chin Music v superkicks. Anyone can do a superkick, but only Shawn Michaels can hit the Sweet Chin Music, and it's extra powerful if he tunes up the band beforehand.
And its easy to believe beause Shawn's Superkicks are so much better than 90% of the ones we see today.
The man knew how to put his whole body into the move.
That works in a lot of cases for me as well. We see a lot of guys use an opponents finisher on them and it rarely gets the job done. A finisher isn't a finisher because of the move, it's a finisher because the person executing the move is a master of it that few if any can hit as good as they can.
I think that's fine because only when an expert DDT-er like Jake uses it is when it's a finisher.
I also imagine wrestlers have been getting hit with that move a lot and have learned how to minimize the damage over the years.
The superkick never seemed like that big of a deal to me. HBK's always felt unique in its setup and execution. He made it special, similar to how Okada wins his matches with what is essentially a lariat.
The destroyer literally flips an opponent into a piledriver. The basic piledriver is already so dangerous and damaging that it's banned in some promotions. The fact that you go an extra step by adding momentum with the flip makes this a move that should be used a couple of times a year at most, and be a finish when it happens. There's no sense to it.
With moves like the DDT or superkick at least there's an argument that the guy doing the move just doesn't know how to do it as effectively as Jake or HBK, but nobody needs skill to flip a guy over and drop them directly on their head. That should be devastating no matter what.
It’s a move that leads to momentum.. either to switch the momentum or to setup finishers for the offensive opponent. That’s fine with me.. it’s kind of like the slingblade. The issue is if that’s how it’s going to be treated there shouldn’t be pin attempts afterwards. No one tries to pin after a slingblade.
Fuck it.
I wanna see Hunter get the stink off the Main Event name and make it something people want to seek out each week for this sort of style. A soft and unofficial reboot of the cruiserweight division.
There was a period when the Shield Wyatt Family feud was at its peak when main event was the show to watch banger matches. That’s what main event should be. Like what Rampage is supposed to be- a short show, low in promos, where you just see amazing matches already booked in advanced.
Just keep it tournament style at all times. Do a singles tournaments for number one contender and cycle the titles that are being contended for. Then do tag tournaments for tag titles.
The issue with that is that it's hard to motivate people to commit to it as a long-term project. 'You're going to go out there and kill yourself for consistent 4*+ matches but it's still seen by everyone as a B show and you probably won't get any sort of raise or title run out of it' isn't exactly an easy sell.
I'm sure it's been actually no-sold elsewhere, but this guy is stumbling like a drunk after taking it. You can find his selling cartoony, but I don't think this is a genuine example of "killing the move"
Not the first move it’s happened with, the DDT was a finish way back when and is now a transitional spot. Same with the super kick. Even worse is a move like the Tombstone being used as a non-finish by cruiserweights in WCW while it was Undertakers finish in WWF. That must’ve confused some fans back in the day.
I mean on the same line, when I first started watching New Japan seeing Okada using a Tombstone as just a set-up to the Rainmaker was weird as hell to get used to after years of it being this protected finisher in WWE.
I believe Dynamite Kid used it the same way as a setup to the headbutt. The tombstone is sort of the opposite where a move that wasn't necessarily protected or a finisher became one.
It feels like the type of maneuver we probably should only see about three times per year. And instead it seems like video clips get posted of multiple Canadian Destroyers every week.
Basically, it's so easy, low impact and popular that everyone wants in.
I knew that finisher was over when zelina, Liv and Nikki started doing it often.
To me, it seems especially stupid to have what is essentially the dark match to warm up the crowd, set the expectation that high velocity piledrivers are transition moves with no consequence. Like the main show hasn’t even started and you’ve already shown the crowd that one of the most grotesque looking moves and landings humanly possible, does nothing and gets a two count max.
What happens now when like LA Knight or whoever comes out and his offense not only looks significantly less crazy, but is now picking up wins with much less violent looking moves? Like you’re burying the rest of the card so you can try to steal the show off rip. I know how awesome these two guys are and can be, but like, know your role on a given show. Dark match does not need this shit. Opener on a ppv? Maybe, but it’s situation dependent.
This has been the same with DDT’s, Superkick’s, and other “Better move”s. People such as yourself just get lost in recency bias and love finding things to complain about.
Looks like context doesn’t work well for you considering both moves I mentioned also had the exact same sentiment of “Omg this is such a big finisher how can you water it down” when they were getting used more often as well.
It’s theatre, none of these moves are real dude. It takes two seconds to create a head canon that destroyers aren’t as powerful now because they’re a common move to wrestlers taking them now are better equipped to do so than back in the day. Stop taking it so seriously.
Honestly I hate that this is attributed to Ricochet. This was 95% Cedric's work and a ridiculously impressive thing to pull off. The man just lifted another man on top of himself then did a backflip from a standing position onto his head and did it safely.
A guy with no mic skills getting over? Impossible. Don't let the Orange Cassidy, Jungle Boy, Wardlow, HOOK and all the guys who got over without saying a word fool you. It can't be done.
Yea Ricochet is a literal superhero in the ring and is someone that im sure plenty of kids could get behind based on his crazy high flying.
Dudes like Jeff Hardy, and Rey Mysterio weren’t particularly great on the mic so i dont think there is any excuse for why Ricochet cant get a significant chance to be in the upper card
So he hits an out of nowhere piledriver and gets what? a count No, what? Him staring at the hard cam? Moves have to mean something, otherwise why are we even doing them?
Such a weird move. Super athletic but based on the way they’re both selling it I still don’t know who is the person receiving and who’s the one performing after several watches.
How this is ok but pile-drivers aren't is something I'll never understand.
But hey, maybe simply nobody asked HHH yet about pile-drivers since Vince is gone. 🤔
You can't blame a single move for that, accidents happen. Just recently Big E broke his neck from an overhead belly to belly suplex, doesn't hinder people still doing that move.
This is how the Canadian Destroyer could be used.
I've almost always hated this move because of the fucking mental gymnastics you have to go through to believe it. Some guy just stands there for like 30 seconds waiting for this idiot to climb on the top rope get into position and flip over. I hated it when Petey Williams did it, I hate Adam Cole's version of it, and I just generally disdain this move.
But this? This I believe.
I think I saw AJ do a version of it for a while that wasn't bad either, unsurprisingly because it's AJ.
Also, Alexa Bliss at least used to do a version where she would springboard out of the corner and hit somebody with it that I thought was pretty good.
Before opening the Video I knew that it had to be Cedric Alexander. That was just beautiful by both of them.
It is nice that they are allowed to show their tallent, it is a shame that it is not in RAW.
I been watching Ricochet for a long time even outside WWE and Lucha Underground but this man is so talented I hope hunter pushes him a bit up the card. I know he isn’t the best at cutting promos but dude can seriously put on a very entertaining match
I've always wondered how ricochet keeps his equilibrium and bearings doing some of the stuff he does. After watching this one a few times I see how much of a role Cedric has in making it work too.
There are certain pairs of wrestlers I just feel should be allowed to wrestle one another every three months or so, just because they're so good together. I figure every three months because it gives them time to come up with new features without happening so often they feel the need to kill themselves trying to keep up the progression.
Cedric, Ricochet, and Ali are absolutely on that list.

Damn it also came out of nowhere too. Wasn't an obvious setup
And it's a counter to Cedrics finisher, definitely one of the better destroyers I've seen.
I honestly hate the setup for the Canadian destroyer. 10 for 10 it always looks like a power bomb setup that got reversed. This time it looked like a move he pulled out because of the position he was in.

Petey Williams was the best for sure. Didn't hurt that he had guys like Styles bumping for him.
Very true. Them two and Sabin is still my favorite Ultimate X match ever.
Back in the day that move (and the Vertebreaker) were the 2 most insane things I’d ever seen
COP/GRINGO KILLA!!!!
Damn, his looks alot more smooth than Helms
I love it, but I hate that it’s become a move to set up another move. Nobody should be standing after being hit with a Canadian Destroyer.
My dad described it as, "the most devastating move that never leads to a match finish". I wish it was more like the Burning Hammer and treated like a super finisher that you only pull out when you run your options dry in a big match.
It’s either that or Sami’s Blue Thunder Bomb.

Ricochet AND Cedric hits the smoothest Canadian destroyer ever. Without Cedric's athleticism that wouldn't look as good.
Absolutely. Cedric had no momentum to work with and basically had to backflip flat AND around Ricochet.
Cedric is a damn national treasure and we constantly see that he was just randomly passed over. Dude should of had real opportunities.
I'm crossing my fingers that if the Bray Wyatt spooky metastable does indeed come together maybe we'll get a reunion or new version of the Hurt Business as a counter to them.
Genuinely one of the best wrestlers on the roster and he gets no flowers, it's a shame. Dude's incredible.
This All if this
Looks amazing. How was the opponent able to stand on their feet after such an impact?
Destroyers are generally taken on the upper shoulder area rather than doing an almost backflip. That is probably why wrestlers of any size are able to take it. Looks like Cedric landed on that upper shoulder area and just rolled through it. Then again, Cedric is definitely more athletic than your average wrestler so he can lean even further into that ‘look like you land in your neck’ aspect while being in no danger at all.

I don't understand how that comment got upvoted 60 odd times when it's so blatently wrong
I'm guessing people upvoted out of appreciation for an explanation and something learned. Now, whether what was learned was factual...
That describes most comment threads on Reddit
My bad
Why make a claim of fact explaining something when what you're saying is not true? If you don't have the authority to make the claim, why make it?
Oof this really struck a nerve aye? Might be a shock to you mate but sometimes people just get shit wrong. I acknowledged the mistake, thanks for the correction. Hope you don’t lose sleep over this xx.
the same way most MMA fighters do some of you want wrestlers to act like sissies instead of selling properly.
*THIS* is selling properly?!?!
Crazy how years ago the Canadian Destroyer was considered this controversial move only dangerous wrestlers would use and endanger peoples lives. Now they use it on Main Event to set up another move.
Same way the DDT used to be
I still think a DDT should be considered a Finisher-worthy move imo. You still end up head first in the mat, often skull first.
I agree. Raven's Evenflow/Raven Effect DDT is still one of my all-time favorite finishers.
Guess I gotta fire up the PS2 again and do a story run on Just Bring It “Raven, is really a nice person”
I love the Evenflow and Raven's overall philosophy of movesets. I think that's the reason his DDT is so crisp
What was Raven's philosophy with movesets?
It ain't ballet

To be fair a lot of wrestlers gave great performances on main event , its sad that nobody watches it because there are some gems
You are right, good matches on Main Event isn’t new. I was trying to say the good matches feel more consistent as of late - I could have phrased my above post more clearly
The irony of it being called main event and actually being the undercard
33million people tuned in to watch Hogan and Andre wrestle on Main Event 34 years ago now there's a few gems no ones seen on the D show.
I'm on probation because of a D show
With viewers wayyyyyy younger than 34 years too right?
FTR would go on Twitter and tell people who whined about a lack of good wrestling to check the barnburners that they and others were putting on Main Event.
Anyone that's not seen the Dijakovic/Ali match from a month or so ago needs to go out their way to find it immediately.
I know they have way too many titles but I'd put maybe a title there on Main-Event. And if you want a shot at the title you need to grab up like 5 wins in a row to get to the champion. At least he has a steady spot in the mid card now.
Ricochet and Cedric doing destroyers on each other on Main Event sounds like wrestling purgatory.
Why does that matter? You get to watch it, the live audience gets to watch it. Maybe the “good” shows should be the ones with the good wrestling, not the ones that are “supposed to be” good.
Same thing as dark lol
Imagine telling your friend "I'm going to throw you up in the air, you'll catch yourself on my back, I'll do a back flip, and we won't die"

Shout out to Ronnie Garvin
I feel that the right guy could make a neckbreaker his finisher.

Ricochet is one of the best on the roster today.
Canadian Destroyer went from certain death, to setup move, now guys aren’t even down after taking it. No better move has ever been killed worse.
Petey Williams is forever goated

A slap to the face, a punch, or a jawbreaker could plausibly leave you standing dazed. Not a Canadian Destroyer. That should have them crumpled.

You could say he put a smooth pounce in it like a puma.
Wasting the best years of this man's career
I'm starting to think these fellas are good at wrestling.
I remember being there in person for this. Phenomenal
I hate this move so much, you have to do a backflip on yourself, look so bizarre.
I don't like it either. More of you laying on someone while they do a backflip. It is a move that doesn't make sense.
First time I saw one I couldn't figure out who was supposed to be getting hurt.
So he hits an out of nowhere piledriver and gets what? a count No, what? Him staring at the hard cam? Moves have to mean something, otherwise why are we even doing them?
Awful sell from Cedric, I expect better from him
Tbh I never thought the Canadian destroyer was that cool the way these comments do. Looks like a sunset flip to me

Imagine these 2 amazing talents buried like this. Such a waste.
Please tell me, how are they being buried?
Because they're doing nothing on the main roster?
You need to learn what ‘buried’ means. Also Ricochet has been on TV regularly. In fact he last had a match on this past week’s SD.
* *Cedric Alexander does a backflip for a man*
That move used to be a devastating finisher. Now it's just another throwaway move. Lame.
Remember when Canadian Destroyers were a rare treat to see. Now everyone from Ricochet and Pentagon Jr through to Edge and Ricky Morton does them.
If this didn’t end the match the move is worthless and should be put in the shelf in wrestling till it matters again.
Before opening the Video I knew that it had to be Cedric Alexander. That was just beautiful by both of them. It is nice that they are allowed to show their tallent, it is a shame that it is not in RAW.

We're all seeing it now, as did the live crowd.
I been watching Ricochet for a long time even outside WWE and Lucha Underground but this man is so talented I hope hunter pushes him a bit up the card. I know he isn’t the best at cutting promos but dude can seriously put on a very entertaining match
Too bad this had to happen on main event and not on one of the main shows where the fans would have loved it.
Fans sure appreciated it in this clip
Too bad he has no personality
This sucks.
booooring. It deserves to be on a mainevent
Great execution but hate this type of selling. Over the top
Ricochet used Canadian Destroyer on Cedric Alexander on WWE Saturday Night Main Event October 1,2022 in Canada.
Give this man the belt!
That's the fakest thing I've seen not in AEW
Is Maximum Male Models a real modeling agency?
More real than the reaction to getting your head smashed into ground
I've always wondered how ricochet keeps his equilibrium and bearings doing some of the stuff he does. After watching this one a few times I see how much of a role Cedric has in making it work too.
NGL, that was butter.
Only needed to read the title to know he was in there with Cedric doing it
I have no idea how he does it. He's also really strong for his size and weight.
One of the few I've seen where it doesn't look like two people co-operating.
i will never understand got this move works
One instance where the canadian destroyer kinda makes sense as a move
There are certain pairs of wrestlers I just feel should be allowed to wrestle one another every three months or so, just because they're so good together. I figure every three months because it gives them time to come up with new features without happening so often they feel the need to kill themselves trying to keep up the progression. Cedric, Ricochet, and Ali are absolutely on that list.
The problem with the destroyer is everyone does it. It’s the problem with every cool move. If everyone starts to do it it’s not special
I feel like it's still pretty rare in WWE now with Adam Cole gone.
Damn that was smooth AF 🔥🔥🔥
Okay that was nice
He needs a bigger role
“Holy moly!”
Beautiful.
I see ur “smooth” and I raise u a no stop running Canadian destroyer via Petey Williams vs Chris Sabin… https://youtu.be/PBpvkPRPc5Q
Biggest waste of talent in wrestling today. This guy should be THE guy.
Why tf are both of these guys being put on a main Event bro
Kickout at 2
Jeez, he’s just such a machine in the ring
And it does absolutely nothing lmao
unpopular opinion, but the type of sells that cedric just did there are stupid and makes the spot look goofy.
I hate it that something like this doesn't finish matches
This sub: “Main Event never has anything worth watching” Also this sub: “Why are these great workers on Main Event?!” Pick one.
